The Justice Department had requested a sentence of one day in prison and three years of supervised release. Brett Hankison was convicted of excessive use of force for firing rounds through Breonna Taylor's window during a drug raid in 20. None of those shots hit Taylor. Taylor's case was promoted as an incident of racial bias in law enforcement after the death of George Floyd.
