Sheriff Perry and Undersheriff Stroup stop by to chat about fire restrictions, red flag days and fire weather watch days. Listen in and learn what all happens behind the scenes when fire restrictions are discussed and implemented. Also, learn about what stage 1 and stage 2 fire restrictions mean. We all have an important role in protecting our beautiful outdoors and our neighborhoods, lets all do our part to be fire aware.

Ouray County Veterans Service Office, Mikael Madsen The Ouray County Veterans Service Office assists Ouray County residents who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces, as well as their family members and survivors in securing benefits they may be entitled to. Eligibility depends on individual circumstances and discharge from active military service under other than dishonorable conditions. Eligibility for some benefits depends on residency, military component, type of discharge and Veteran disability status. The Ouray County Veterans Service Office serves as the liaison between the Veterans Administration and the veteran. Our Certified Veterans Service Officer will serve as your advocate to assist you with the preparation, presentation and possible appeal of your VA benefits. We help you access a variety of services including obtaining discharge papers, filing claims, information and access to benefits like pension, healthcare, education, home loans, survivor death benefits, burial and much more. This office will provide personalized local service to our veterans and other claimants, and to assist you in cutting through the maze of red tape frequently involved in direct dealings with government agencies. There is no fee for our services.

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and in this episode we chat with our Ouray County Victim Advocate about her services and resources available to those experiencing domestic abuse, or intimate partner violence. Please visit https://ouraycountyco.gov/447/Ouray-County-Victim-Services for information on our Ouray County Victim Services Program. Crimes can happen at anytime and any day so our services are available 24/7 and 7 days a week to provide the needed support to victims of crime. Victim Advocates help victims navigate the complicated judicial system, applying for resources, and ensuring their rights as a victim are being met.

Get ready for the Ouray County Fair! The Fair, which is titled "A Place for Family, Friends and Fun" this year, is August 8-10. Erin Stadelman, manager of the Ouray County Fairgrounds, and Treasurer for the Ouray County Fair Board, provides all the details about the Fair, the 4H kids and their animals, and how to enter the Open Class Divisions, which include arts, crafts, homebrewing, wine making, leather work, and more!
