Hey Muggles. Mugglecast is off this week. We're taking a break before summer apparates away. So instead of a new chapter by chapter episode this week, today we are sharing a bonus Mugglecast episode that we released on Patreon in July. Last month marked 19 years since the release of Harry Potter and the Deathly hallows and since 19 years later is an all important anniversary in the Harry Potter books thanks to Deathly Hallows epilogue, we thought we'd look back at what we did for the release of the final book on July 21, 2007. We hope you enjoy this return to that fateful summer. We release two new bonus episodes of Mugglecast every month on our Patreon to thank you for supporting us as an independent podcast free of some corporate network who controls us. We need your support to keep the show going. We are more excited about the future of Mugglecast than ever before thanks to the upcoming TV show and the various ways that the wizarding world is expanding. So please help us continue forward. Visit patreon.com mugglecast right now and become a member. Today in another bonus Mugglecast episode that we just released, we talked to Eric about The fandom members he was and was not inviting to his upcoming wedding. It was a very fun behind the scenes look at the wedding that we'll all be gathering for in September. But now let's look back at the release of Deathly Hallows 19 years later. Welcome to Bonus Mugglecast. And we thought it is 19 years since Deathly Hallows. The book was. Was released. Major end of an era. Luckily, the fandom continued on. We thought, well, it's 19 years later. Let's revisit this very important month that being July 2007 in Harry Potter history. So, Ivana, since you're here with us from episode 758, I thought we should start with you because everybody's probably heard bits and pieces of my story. Micah's story, Laura's story, Eric's story. So. So let's start with somebody brand new who hasn't shared their story yet. You said you have some fun tales to tell, right?
Ivana
It was a shenanigan. I have been to one and only one midnight release and it was for this book. And it ended up turning into. I didn't even write it in the document because it ended up becoming a saga. Because I had two distinct memories of this evening. I went. I grew up with neighbors that were essentially my sisters. I go with one of the sisters and we show up there and this is where it splits. We go, we get the book. We're very anxious to get it. There's. Everyone's there. Because I live in a relatively large city and we get there and in my mind, I lost her. When I reached out to her, she said, I left her. And I said, thinking, no, there's no way I wouldn't just leave her. She said, I got the book and I had to go. Like, I don't think so. I think I lost you. You ended up leaving me. Well, what ended up happening was I. We got there, she saw another friend who had already been there for a while, had gotten her book.
Andrew
She.
Ivana
She got her book and was ready to go.
Laura
So left with this friend. I spent an hour looking for.
Micah
Oh, no, she thought she told me.
Ivana
And it was, you know, back in the day with the text, you know, you had to like, tap, tap, tap, tap, tap. Yeah, you know. Yeah. And I didn't have my phone on me. I was too excited. I was getting the freaking book. And, uh, as it turns out, she left with this friend.
Andrew
I was.
Ivana
Spent an hour looking for her. I don't even remember the rest of it. Cause I was in a sheer panic because her mom was essentially my mom. And I was like, this is it. This is the end of my life. I lost her kid. Um, and it was. It was about a day and a half of texting friends asking if they remembered what happened that night.
Micah
Was she in front of. Did she end up being in front of you in line?
Ivana
She was, like, to the side of me, like, we were a unit, and I guess we just got our books. Like, we got in, she saw someone, and she must have come back in. She said she was online with me the whole time. I do not remember this, but I remember immediately not knowing where she was, and it was so crowded. But somehow she got her book and said she was with me the whole time, which might be shenanigans.
Micah
I think she, like, yeah, yeah. I think she just wanted to get. Reading the book or wanted to get it before you or something, like.
Ivana
But I reached out to the friend that she left with, and she's like, oh, yeah, no, she came home with me. And I'm like, right, got it.
Jamie
Yeah.
Ivana
So I spent an hour just frantically looking for my sister and never finding. Scared, going home, getting ready to. And then I found my phone. I was like, good Lord.
Micah
And in that moment, you learned, see, you never part from your phone in that way.
Ivana
And that may have been where my social anxiety bloomed. I'm not really sure.
Andrew
Yeah, Losing somebody in a crowd, that seems reasonable.
Laura
Yeah, seems like a reasonable.
Ivana
Because that was it. I'm like, I don't do crowds anymore.
Micah
Was this a Borders, Barnes and Noble?
Ivana
A different bookstore, Barnes and Noble. And it was a big one at the time. They ended up moving in our town, but it was a decent size.
Andrew
Yeah.
Jamie
Yeah. Cool.
Micah
Eric, how about you?
Andrew
I was thrilled to basically spend the night at Waterstones in Piccadilly Circus in London with Laura and Andrew and Jamie and Kevin and.
Ivana
That's right.
Andrew
That's right.
Laura
Yeah.
Andrew
It was a fine time.
Laura
Yes.
Jamie
They're not Australian.
Andrew
I don't know why. Anyway, Jamie. Yeah, Yeah, I would not go down under until later that year, but no, we. We. Ayo, we. Oh, geez. Anyway. Yeah, that tracks. So the. The craziest thing is that I realized, Andrew, there's so much about sort of the kind of planning of that book release party that, I don't know, I wasn't involved in. For instance, Waterstones, when we got there, had these shirts that say Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. The date and time. Muggle Net's biggest party, like, ever podcast event. Biggest podcast event. Yeah. Biggest ever podcast. Nice. Reading backwards. I can't read it. Or is it forwards for you?
Micah
Because it's forwards for us.
Ivana
Oh, really?
Andrew
It's not for me.
Micah
That's nuts.
Andrew
Yeah, it looks perfect.
Laura
Okay.
ZocDoc Advertiser
Yeah.
Andrew
Well, anyway, so they had these shirts, and I think on the back there said staff, but, like, I don't remember. We didn't place an order. We didn't sell these. I think it was either waterstones that had it, because I have a video. We hung out at the bookstore all day. Or at least I tried to hang out there as much as possible. There were people in line for days, literally days. And they made a point of it. It was like this group of, like, Dutch fans that. That had like, a cardboard sign that said, one, yes, we're Dutch. Two, it was like commonly answered questions of, what are you doing outside this. This book bookstore? And anyway, I have a video of the staff loading the books into the building like the day before or the day of. And they're all wearing these same shirts, so I don't know how I got one. Do you guys have this shirt? Does this ring any bells?
Micah
Oh, yeah, I have one.
Laura
I remember it, but I don't.
Andrew
It's kind of like. It's just text. It's all kind of awkward. It's not.
Micah
Yeah, it's basic.
Andrew
Yeah.
Micah
But they made it for us. Right. So that's.
Andrew
I think that's right.
Micah
And they wore it, which is cool.
Andrew
Yeah. I didn't know if we provide. If we order, like, I don't know what. Coordination. I think they did them.
Micah
Yeah, I think they did them. They did most of the work, too. We really didn't do anything. And at least that's my recollection, because we were busy in the lead up to the book. We were doing other lives.
Andrew
Oh, there's a tour. The summer tour was happening that. That whole summer.
Ivana
Right.
Andrew
Because, like, London was like the second to last show, I think, if I'm remembering correctly.
Jamie
Order the Phoenix.
Andrew
Yeah. In order the Phoenix, the movie just released. Yeah.
Jamie
So Lightning 2007.
Andrew
But yeah.
Disney/Avatar Advertiser
Yeah.
Ivana
So much going on.
Andrew
Yeah. We would go to the. Britain's biggest bookstore and, you know, it was four stories tall. It wasn't that, but it was the biggest one in the UK that we would be the guests of honor, that they would make shirts that said Muggle Net on them, you know, real excited to have us. It just felt it was the VIP treatment. Not to mention there was later a party where there was a very clear VIP section that we were all invited to, which is really extra when you think about it. But it was, like, basically because otherwise they charged, like, more for a ticket for, like, a small bar or something like that.
Jamie
Yeah.
Micah
Laura, what are your memories from this. From this night?
Laura
Oh, my gosh. First of all, I feel like this isn't new news, but just to kind of set the scene for everybody, I was extremely hungover the day that we did this podcast.
Andrew
Oh, I forgot about that.
Laura
Yeah. Well, I mean, Andrew, you and Eric were there the night before when. And I got.
Andrew
I'm not remembering what we did, so maybe I was right there with you.
Laura
I don't know.
Andrew
Drinking buddies?
Laura
No, I think it was just me, I think. Cause I. I had four Imperial pints the night before, and I was 18.
Andrew
Were you out with Penny? Were you out with Penny? And.
Jamie
Well, you were legal drinking age over there.
Laura
Over there I was, but over here I definitely was not. And my. My tolerance was not to the level it would've needed to be for me to be able to carry my booze that way. Um, so I definitely, like, early in the day, I was, like, hurling and, like, having all the worst symptoms of a hangover. And bless all of you, because y' all were great. I don't know how I got back to the hotel room that night because I was so. Y'. All. I was so gone that y' all definitely had to help me back to the room. And I'm just so thankful that I have really, really good friends who I can trust. Um, but then the following day, I think it was Kevin actually, who was, like, running out to get me, like, food to, like, help sober me up, so just, like, sober up.
Andrew
Yeah. Hangovers were not a new thing to him. They were a new thing to the rest of us.
Laura
Yes.
Andrew
So.
Laura
Well, he had been in college for a few years.
Andrew
For a years at that point. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Laura
And I remember, like, when I was finally coming around and, like, feeling more normal and like, oh, my God, I'm going to be able to do this podcast without throwing up on the Hagrid actor. Because there was a Hagrid actor there.
Andrew
There was a Hagrid actor.
Laura
I. Y' all remember Ben, who was on this show at the time. So also not a secret, but, like, Ben and I never got along. We were never friends. We did not like each other very much. And I remember he im'd me on aim. Cause, you know, that was still a thing back then. And he was like, laura, it's book release day. We have to let bygones be bygones. Let's Try to be friends. And I remember in the moment, I was touched and I was like, oh, that's really nice, Ben. And then that all went away because we were right back to hating each other after that. So it didn't really work.
Micah
I'm sorry to hear that.
Laura
I'm not. Is that a person I want in my life?
Andrew
Do you think that if Hedwig had lived in the book, you guys would have, I don't know, made it last a little bit more in the spirit of friendship and companionship?
Laura
I definitely think Hedwig was. The thing was the linchpin.
Andrew
I don't know, it was just weird.
Laura
Our friendship possibilities.
Andrew
You touched on the fact that we read. I mean, do you remember reading through the night then or.
Laura
Yes.
Andrew
Yeah.
Laura
Oh, I do. I was so, like, listen, by the time we got to podcasting, I was fine. I was sober. But, like, I was struggling in the first half of the day and I didn't know if I was gonna make it. But I did make it. And I remember doing the show and I remember. I remember the weirdest things from this. Like, I remember meeting Jamie's dad at the after party. Do you remember his dad was there? Yes.
Micah
Oh, right.
Laura
And he was the sweetest man. He like. Cause there was a. There were like these big windows, these, like, big floor to ceiling windows in the VIP space. And he was, like, walking me around and showing me the London skyline and, like, pointing out different landmarks and stuff. He was so cute. I remember getting the book. I remember Jamie sobbing with the book.
Micah
Of course.
Andrew
Jamie was absolutely a mess. It's all over.
Micah
Yeah. Yeah. He got emotional. We all were feeling that. He's the one who. I think he had, like one glass of champagne and it. Editing them.
Laura
I think he had more than that, but. But no, I just remember him being like, laura, this has been our lives.
Micah
Like, yeah, yeah, there you go.
Laura
And then I remember us, like, practically running through the streets to get back to the hotel as soon as we could. And we all got there and like a bunch of nerds, we immediately started reading. And like Eric said, we read through the night into the next day. I feel like Andrew, you and I were the last ones to finish. Everyone finished before us.
Micah
Yeah. And Kevin had started reading a leaked copy early, so he was, like, done before we all.
Andrew
He took one look at the book and was like, yep, that's what I read. And then, like, he was. He was done.
Micah
Oh, that leak was legit. Okay.
Andrew
Yeah, yeah. We were gasping and he was like, where are you? And he'd look over Laura's shoulders and he'd be like, yep. Yeah, yeah.
Micah
I found that so annoying. He should have left the hotel room gone. And did some tourism or something. He doesn't need. He was a know it all. Love Kevin, but it was. It was giving know it all, and I didn't like it.
Laura
Oh, yeah, well.
Ivana
And he.
Laura
He would be like, oh, did you get to the part yet where da, da, da, da, da. And he would make shit up, just freaking everybody out.
Andrew
It's the best. You have one opportunity to show your friends like that. Absolutely. Take it. See, Ivana gets it with Throne of Glass.
Ivana
I had a couple friends reading Throne of Glass because I talked them into it. And they're.
Laura
And they're like, I heard that this
Ivana
happened and I didn't, like, make it up. But I'm really good at just being like, what? No. Oh, my God. Somebody must have misunderstood that part. Like, that's. I don't think that that's what that means. And then they get to that part.
Laura
Like, how could you do that to me?
Ivana
I'm like, you can't get it spoiled. I'm gonna unspoil it. I guess that's what I did. I unspoiled it so then they could get there and realize it was spoiled.
Andrew
Yeah. Yeah.

Andrew
So I want to. There's one other thing I could mention, but I want to hear about Micah's book 7 and. Or Summer of Potter memories because you did get to. You just mentioned enlightening. You were there, right, for that live podcast?
Jamie
Yeah, we were in Philadelphia.
Andrew
That's right.
Jamie
University of Pennsylvania.
Andrew
Yep.
Jamie
In that iconic auditorium. I just remember Andrew and I would talk about afterwards how it had great acoustics.
Andrew
Was it a particularly well acoustic show?
Jamie
It must have been. We can look up where exactly it was. But it. It was a nice like setting for a podcast too.
Andrew
Oh yeah.
Micah
So it was episode 99 of Mugglecast 2, I believe. And our 100th episode was the. Either the mint. Okay, the live show. And then episode 101 was our analysis of Deathly Hallows after we did an all night read. That was crazy because we were also
Jamie
live streaming download numbers on that. Those episodes, they were ridiculous.
Andrew
I'm gonna say like half a million two hundred thousand.
Micah
No, I think half a milli. On the Deathly Hallows release. Our reaction.
Jamie
And this was back when podcasting was not in its heyday by any means, right?
Andrew
No, you saw like download it to your ipod.
Micah
We were also live streaming via ustream from the hotel room, audio only.
Andrew
That was a mess.
Micah
But. But it. I mean it's impressive that it worked at the time. And especially like hotel WI fi was very unpredictable back in the day. So that we were able to get that live through the hotel room. WI fi was pretty good.
Jamie
Now that summer also I remember we were in New York for the Order of the Phoenix premiere. Not all of us ended up going, but Andrew, I remember we did a show at a Borders in Columbus Circle and then you went to some mall in New Jersey with Tom Felton.
Micah
Yeah.
Jamie
Is that right?
Micah
Me, my husband, I remember this correctly. Yeah. They invited us to do a little event. We just like intro Tom. I think maybe we moderated a discussion too. But yeah, that was pretty random. It was somewhere in North Jersey. I remember that was fun.
Ivana
All the places.
Micah
I know it was very random. I don't know why it was there.
Jamie
That's interesting. But yeah, I mean, I remember that. I remember enlightening. And then for me on the release of Deathly Hallows, obviously I wasn't in London with you all, but I had a friend who I grew up with who worked at a Borders and so I went to that Borders for the release of the seventh book. And of course used the fact that he worked at the Borders to my advantage. So I didn't have to really wait online to get the book when it first was released at midnight, got my copy, got back in the car, drove home and I think I probably went through the first couple of chapters and then went to sleep. I knew I didn't have to worry about jumping on to record a podcast.
Andrew
So they got that covered this week
Jamie
and by that time you all were hours ahead in terms of reading anyway.
Andrew
True.
Jamie
And yeah, I probably spent most of the next day just devouring the book. I want to say I also got a little bit spoiled by Kevin too in terms of the leaked chapters that ended up in our inbox for Mugglenet. But yeah, that's my story. Not nothing too crazy.
Micah
So I'm glad that we did that day after analysis and reading through the night. But it does take away from the experience and the enjoyment when you're on the clock to get the book done.
Andrew
We're real to work.
Micah
We are very less fun.
Andrew
We are the most self sacrificial people you will ever meet.
Micah
Well, I know I just say that to say like I, it, it kills the fun. Like, yeah, from the outside. Oh, cool. They're staying up all night to read the book and then they're going to talk about it. What a life, you know, what an opportunity. And yes, I'm so glad we've had this platform and opportunity. But you don't enjoy it. It's like people, they're like, oh, Disney's amazing. I want to work at Disney World. And then you work at Disney World, you're like, oh wait, all the magic is gone.
Laura
Yeah, it's worked, you know, and I mean, I can just speak for myself personally. If I, like, if I had to do that now, yes, it would feel like work. But at the time, like I was 18, you know, we're at the point where it's like I'm fucking invincible. Like I can, I can stay up
Andrew
except for four Imperial stouts.
Laura
Well, you know, listen, we all have our limits.
Andrew
Let's be honest. It would just take two for any one of us, right?
Jamie
And then we'd be, ouch.
Andrew
Because we've aged.
Micah
I wish.
Laura
But I don't know. Like I, it was exciting at the time. I feel like if I had to do it now, I would not have the energy to be able to pull that off.
Micah
It would be interesting. It'd be interesting to see if we could do that today.
Andrew
I think for me, for Me, it felt like we were on top of the world, that the friends we made through Harry Potter and the experience of getting to be at the biggest bookstore, even the trip to London was because of the podcast, because of the. The. Because of Harry Potter. I always had a lot of gratitude because of Harry Potter and, like, the places we got to go for it. So I think I just remember feeling like there was nowhere else I'd rather be. But the other caveat to that is I worked at a Borders at the time in New Zealand, and it was made mandatory for all employees because of the demand, because of the crowd they were expecting. Was made mandatory for every Borders employee to be on in Wellington that night on the clock, working the store release. And I had to get special permission from my manager because I had been invited to be at this thing in London. And I said, please don't fire me. I have to go and be part of this book release thing in London.
Jamie
It would have been worth getting fired, though.
Andrew
I know, but. But actually, actually, I think her name was Melissa, and I think that she was very understanding and said, well, this is obviously a very great thing for your future, you know, for your.
Ivana
For your.
Andrew
That you have this hobby that's turning into. So the, the appeal was there and I was very grateful. I still had a job for another. The whole rest of the time I was there. Next five months. Yeah.
Jamie
I will say, though, despite the fact that I did not go to this release in London, I have since been to Waterstones, Piccadilly.
Micah
Yeah.
Jamie
So I, I. And I felt it was very important that I go when I was there in. Was it 2024? Pay tribute to what we did. That was part of my. My list of places that I had to go. So I made sure I went inside Waterstones, Piccadilly, and I checked it out.
Micah
It's a great bookstore.
Jamie
Yeah, no, it really is.
Laura
And.
Jamie
And the other thing, I'll just say, I know I brought this up on one of the chapter episodes that we did, but y' all were nice enough to bring me back a copy of
Andrew
We Don't Remember who.
Jamie
Deathly Hallows. We don't know who it was. Probably Kevin. That's, I think, the consensus that we landed on. But then probably also these really cool stamps that were inside.
Micah
Oh, yeah, I wish I had those.
Jamie
One for each of the. The UK book covers. Adult book covers, I think, too. Oh, no, not adult. Children's.
Micah
Yeah, children's. They did do adult editions, like, concurrently with the children's editions.
Jamie
Yeah.
Micah
Because apparently it wasn't those covers weren't cool for adults to hold.
Andrew
The only other thing I will say that I remember that I don't think I've talked about before on the podcast is, well, obviously we mentioned Jamie's arek. There were these international news outlets there at the store that night and they were interviewing fans and, you know, so it was like not just the BBC reporter that's there to report to whatever local London station, but like actually reporters from China, from Switzerland, from, you know, speaking any number of languages. And I remember actually being. Getting in front of the camera to be interviewed by maybe it was some. Maybe one of the Nordic countries or something to be like, oh, you know, just a fan attending the convention. But I had just seen Jamie like lose his shit over how sad it all was and how it was ending. And I felt like I had to one up him. And so I like forced myself to like be miserable for this three minute interview that was just like, how does it feel in the ending? And I'm like, we started this and it was three years ago that I became a fan. It's gone too soon. It's all. And I just remember like actually working myself up and actually crying. They weren't alligator tears, but like, they really. I made myself cry because I wanted. I. I know I've. I'm not usually that way. Here's the thing.
Laura
I wish we could find this footage.
Andrew
That's the thing. I've never found it because I don't. Number one, I don't remember what country it was from. So you would have to look at whatever major news outlets were covering stuff that night from that store. And then you'd have to like, find footage that doesn't even. It's like almost pre Internet, certainly pre social media. We never will. It's impossible. No, I will never find it as long as I live. So. But I do remember giving that interview and it's. I just remember kind of being a wreck and. But not as much as Jamie and I felt the need to compete.
Micah
Yeah, interesting. That's a. That's a fun revelation for today's bonus mugglecast.
Andrew
Okay, if you say. If you say so.
Micah
So changing gears a little bit. I'm curious again. It's 19 years later. How many times do we think we've read the book since then? And I'll just start by saying I think I've read this, reread this book the least amount of times in terms of books across the series. Maybe three max. And I feel embarrassed to say that.
Andrew
No, no, I Think it makes a
Laura
certain amount of sense.
Ivana
Yeah.
Laura
Because it's the last one. You don't need to reread it a bunch to predict what's coming next.
Andrew
Yeah, there was less reason. Like, I know I read it, I know I reread it at least once because we did chapter by chapter for it after we read it the first time in 2007. But time since, I mean, what a lot of people used to do is before a new book came out, they'd read all the other ones again. And so that's why you've read like book three five times. But it just. And for me, Book three is a book that I would go to and actually pick up and read again. But not the others, really. And book seven, least of all. I think I ended up talking about some of Deathly Hallows for another podcast. Alohomora was doing a reread. So I think, I think I'm if maximum. I've read it three more times, but that's it. I don't remember nearly anything. And that's what makes me so excited to be doing it again on Mugucast.
Jamie
I think this chapter by chapter is probably my third time reading it.
Andrew
Yeah.
Micah
Oh, wow. Okay.
Disney/Avatar Advertiser
Phew.
Micah
I feel better now. How about you, Laura?
Laura
Yeah. Much like the rest of this group, I gotta say it's the least amount of rereads that I've done of any of the books. And I wanna say it's less than three.
Andrew
Yeah.
Laura
Probably twice. Yeah.
Micah
Sometimes you get so scared of admitting something and then everybody else is in the same boat.
Andrew
It's a safe space.
Micah
Woo hoo. And you know what? I've mentioned a couple times now that we've recorded the first couple chapters of Deathly Hallows. I think part of the reason I enjoyed those so much is because it has been so long since we've discussed this book chapter by chapter and have read this. It's feeling very new to me, strangely enough.
Andrew
Yeah.
Micah
So Ivana, how about you? How many times have you read it?
Ivana
Once. This chapter by chapter will be my second reread. I don't know why. I've tried a couple times to pick it back up and it just. I was okay with it, it being that read, that first read because it was a special book because of your
Andrew
friend, that horrible experience, that trauma.
Ivana
There wasn't a dragon. And I was just like, why are we even here? And so this will be my second reread of it since it came out.
Jamie
Wow.
Andrew
I don't love this book. Oh, it's kind of a bolder maybe
Jamie
we can change that.
Andrew
I state that on 101 I think which is our morning after I had some problems with set up and payoff and I don't know I think it was impossible to get right for everybody and in every way it just felt like the the deaths were really laid on quite a bit and without enough in text justification. I think that's what hit me the hardest certainly the morning of and what I go back to is like really Hedwig really well Remus and Tonks really
Micah
like I do remember yeah I I do remember a lot of people being mad about Ron being able to speak Parseltong Dumbest thing that's ever happened in those books.
Ivana
Agreed.
Andrew
It's I think certain contrivances became that they're just like past the but the pressure. I mean nobody can deny the level of scrutiny that that series was under mostly too due to us and other podcasts and things, you know, really bringing up the issues. So I will see how I feel overall about it this time and I'm excited to do so.
Micah
Yeah, luckily we're doing chapter by chapter. There's room to get into that stuff. Laura for sure.
Laura
Yeah, I was going to say Eric, you're not alone. I mean I think there are there are very fair critiques to have of this book and I'm just remembering that on a pre Deathly Hallows episode we were predicting how the book was going to end and I came out and said if the final battle is at Hogwarts, that's going to be the stupidest thing ever because we just
Micah
so reading some feedback from Discord and then we
Andrew
can wrap it up.
Micah
So Hedwig's theme said this is about this is going to be their fourth time with our chapter by chapter reread. 40 said it's my lowest by double digits. Mev said read them all 10 times so far, not including the audiobook. Listens Zian only read it once. Justin said he's read the last ten chapters more than anything else. So those are the answers we're getting so far. And just doing a quick Google search. This is the Google AI summary. So I don't know if we can trust it, but apparently according to Google AI, Chamber of Secrets and Order of the Phoenix are the least reread in the series.
Andrew
Well Order of the Phoenix so long. Yeah.
Micah
And Chamber of Secrets as we established a few weeks ago apparently is the least favorite book.
Jamie
Nobody likes it.
Andrew
Well that's the interesting thing is Chamber of Secrets gets a Lot of hate, but I think it's above Deathly Hallows for me.
Jamie
Wow.
Ivana
Okay.
Jamie
Yeah.
Laura
All right.
Micah
Um, well, so here we are, 19 years later. Perfect time to start rereading Deathly Hallows. Evidently, lots of us are due for a reread and we're looking forward to it. Thanks, everybody, for listening. Thanks for your support. Ivana, thanks for joining us for this bonus Mugglecast.

Podcast: MuggleCast: The Harry Potter Re-Read Podcast
Episode Date: August 5, 2026
Host(s): Harry Potter (host), Andrew, Micah, Laura, Jamie, Ivana (special guest)
Episode Theme: 19th Anniversary of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows
Nineteen years after the release of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, the MuggleCast team reunites to reminisce about that fateful summer of 2007. In this reflective and lighthearted bonus episode (originally Patreon-exclusive), regulars and special guest Ivana share their personal recollections from the book’s launch, discuss the emotional highs and lows, and contemplate the book’s legacy and their connection to it nearly two decades later.
Ivana, on panic at the midnight release:
“I spent an hour just frantically looking for my sister and never finding. Scared, going home, getting ready to— and then I found my phone. I was like, good lord.” [06:03]
Laura, on friendship (or lack thereof):
“Ben and I never got along. We were never friends. We did not like each other very much… I was touched [when he reached out], and then that all went away because we were right back to hating each other after that. So it didn’t really work.” [12:47]
Andrew, on gratitude and fandom opportunity:
“I think for me, it felt like we were on top of the world, that the friends we made through Harry Potter and the experience of getting to be at the biggest bookstore…there was nowhere else I'd rather be.” [22:22]
Micah, on the reality of fandom ‘work’:
“It does take away from the experience and the enjoyment when you’re on the clock to get the book done.” [20:56]
Andrew, on emotional one-upmanship:
“I had just seen Jamie like lose his shit… I felt like I had to one up him. And so I like forced myself to like be miserable for this… interview. I just remember like actually working myself up and actually crying.” [26:17]
Jamie, on revisiting Waterstones years later:
“Despite the fact that I did not go to this release in London, I have since been to Waterstones, Piccadilly… I felt it was very important that I go when I was there in… 2024 to pay tribute to what we did.” [23:42]
