Welcome to Never Enough, a podcast that’s obsessed with obsession. On each episode we'll delve into those immersive interests that compel us - going down the rabbit hole with a guest to discuss their obsession...and why they can never get enough.

In this episode I am talking to Acting/Lacking about his obsession with Robert Heinlein's 1956 sci-fi classic Starship Troopers. He is a Canadian Armed Forces Veteran of 20 years. He started out in the reserves and then was in the infantry for 6 years with a UN tour to Haiti and 2 combat tours in Afghanistan. He spent his remaining years as an aerospace control operator in the Air Force due to a back injury. He is currently retired, married and raising 2 kids on a small homestead on the east coast. We talk about the idealized version of the military portrayed in Starship Troopers and lessons that could be learned by military leadership today. We discuss training, accountability, the selflessness required to be a combat soldier, the importance of officers having combat experience and the shameful way veterans are treated by the Canadian government. If you want to see more takes on the Canadian military please follow him on Instagram @acting_lacking_actualTheme music by Brad Hart

Welcome to Never Enough, the podcast that's obsessed with obsessions: the things we love and why, the enduring interests that draw us in and keep us coming back for more.I'm Joan Ruzsa and I am your host. My guest today is Jack Breakfast. Jack is a musician, writer, painter and photographer. We discuss birders vs bird photographers, the surprising joy of unreciprocated love, the art of narrative photography and the importance of maintaining a respectful distance from migratory/uncommon birds. We also spend a significant part of the episode talking about all of the times we have watched hawks devour their prey. The word viscera may have been used. Plus I get chastised for my improper use of the word sparrow. Vague nomenclature is no one's friend.Find Jack on Instagram@jackbreakfastSubstackjackbreakfast.substack.comTheme music by Brad Hart

Welcome to Never Enough, the podcast that's obsessed with obsessions: the things we love and why, the enduring interests that draw us in and keep us coming back for more.My name is Joan Ruzsa and I'll be your host. On this episode I'll be talking to Brad Hart about his obsession with Stanley Kubrick's film The Shining. Brad is a singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, comedian, playwright and lover of film. He talks about his introduction to The Shining at a young age, and the feelings it brought up for him. Not just fear in response to the obvious horror elements, but something else. A feeling that even in the moments that were ostensibly innocuous or banal, there was an undercurrent of unease, of something being not quite right. And he's come back to the film again and again, in part to try to figure out what was going on under the surface to make him feel that way. We talk about Kubrick as a director, the way he turns fans into detectives, the impossible architecture of The Overlook Hotel, and the many fan theories that exist about the subtext of the film.Find Brad on Instagram @brad_snaps@bradhartmusicTheme music by Brad Hart
