Kat
Welcome to Never Offside with Julie and Kat. Today is a very interesting episode. First of its kind. So what's going on, Jules?
Julie
Yeah, I'm on spring break, so no time for the pod this week. Sorry. Full. Full on Buried with the kids. But excited Tyler is stepping in for me. Y' all have a fun conversation going with Will Smith and Macklin Celebrini.
Kat
Yep. So surprise. The listeners asked and we. We said we got them. We got wilmac on. On an episode together before summer hits because it was a little, you know, like we always wanted to get them on the pod, but then as this is the last, you know, week of season coming up, we. We noticed that they might not be able to be together, so. And their. Their allure is being together. So.
Julie
So I know. Yeah.
Kat
Ty came in and stepped in as. As the celebrity co host for you. He said he's. He's got big shoes to fill. He told me so. Yep.
Julie
Well, he's gonna do great. He's at natural. We watch him. He gives us all the tips because he's always sitting in on the pod.
Kat
He does give us tips, which is very funny. So spring break. You of all people have earned a spring break.
Julie
Yeah, well, I wish I earned a solo adult Spring break would be better.
Kat
But it's still brave. They're still break in the terms.
Julie
Still breaking. And I'm breaking with my husband. So I have a teammate, I have a co parent and it's all fantastic and get to enjoy some family time down in Texas. We. We don't always get to get down there all together. So it's. It's really fun and just crazy. We've wrapped up another season and here we are. Like, I. It's gonna. I'm gonna have to start thinking of things for Jeff to do around here.
Kat
Well, but you wrapped up the season. But it was an eventful last game. So you were texting me. I kind of wish you were just like posting live for people to see
Julie
your night of the last game all happening too fast. So our last home game was last Monday versus Dallas in Detroit. And I took all the boys. I typically don't take them on a weeknight game because that's just a lot. But being that it was last home game, you know, had to go all out anyways, I'm majority of the game. Like so many things happened at this game, but the majority of the game I'm like chasing Blake around. He's my 2 year old and just hilarious. But not because I'm like, oh, I really wanted to watch, you know, a little bit of this game. Unlike Kat, I like to watch some of the games.
Kat
Yeah, you actually like to watch. I have all the time in the world to watch. You actually like, too. And you.
Julie
I actually wish Kat was here, because she would walk the concourse with Blake. No problem.
Kat
Yeah, that would have been fun.
Julie
Anyways, I finally get him wrangled during the second period.
Jeff
And.
Julie
And by wrangled, I mean I sit on the aisle. We have the same seats. I sit on an aisle, which I love. Um, but he found. He found a fun spot right there. Just right in the aisle and kept going under the bar.
Kat
Oh, yeah. Like, up and down the bars, right?
Julie
Yeah. Very dangerous, though. Fun, fun.
Kat
We all did it.
Julie
Yeah. LCA stairs are very steep, but, you know, I'm doing, like, the mom, like, stick my arm out, you know, car seat hold or, you know, seatbelt hold. Anyways, the cameraman comes down our aisle, and I'm like, oh, and Boyd, my oldest, is with me, so I've got the two bookends with me. And Boyd knows what to do. Every he sees his cameraman, he's like, pump the jersey up. You know, does it real quick.
Kat
Professional.
Julie
Yeah, he's a seasoned vet. Oh, speaking of, here's. Here's one of one of the guests.
Kat
Another cameo. What was the question?
Julie
Can I actually sleep on a palette? I'm letting them sleep in my room tonight. You know, spring break, guys.
Kat
It'll. Spring break. Sleepovers. The sleepovers. What a theme.
Julie
We love sleepovers. Never outside. Just being a really awesome mom.
Kat
Okay, so, yeah, he's in the aisle.
Julie
Boyd starts it off, like. And this is full on. Starts it off. It's just one of those quick hits that they do in between, like, puck drops. So it's like. And then Blake gets on the screen. They pan to him, and he turned it on. You guys. Like, this kid pumped his jersey where his belly was showing, which then. Okay. Cute, adorable. The whole crowd starts cheering, but then it turns into being, like. They pan off of him, and the crowd gets quiet. And then they pan back on him, and the crowd starts roaring again. And then he starts roaring, and he's, like, watching his face, so he's getting more excited. It was hilarious. We will like the whole thing.
Kat
He got a taste of the fame.
Julie
Oh, he saw it and he lit it up. The. The guy with the headset, he comes up to me, and he's like, our production room is freaking out right now. This kid's a star. Anyways, that was that. But Also at the same time, everybody's like, what is Jeff doing on the ice? Like, watching. Like, is he watching this? Typically he doesn't, like, pay attention to the scoreboard and things like that.
Kat
Yeah.
Julie
But after the game, I was like, did you see Blakey? And he's like, did I see Blakey? He's like, the whole team is, like, elbowing me down the. Down the bench.
Kat
Like, we need that video. We need that video of Jeff looking up and laughing.
Julie
Oh, they. He said they were all howling. And it's like, you look at Blake and you can't not smile when you look at him. And he put on a show. So that was really cute and fun. That was my fun, light hearted moment of the game.
Kat
Yep.
Julie
And then I had another story.
Kat
Yeah, this is. This is the text. I got that really. When things took a turn.
Julie
This is when things took a turn. So long story short, I haven't been feeling my best as of late. I am fine. That. Let's start with that. I am fine, but I did need to get some things checked out, specifically with my heart. And I was debating on, like, going into, like, the hospital or the urgent care just to get, like, my own test run. But being a busy mom and getting prepared for spring break and all the things coming up, I'm like, no time for that.
Kat
You know, lots going on.
Julie
So my mom is with me at the game and she's like, julie, like, this is ridiculous. And then, like, we're talking in our. Our team service lady standing there, and they're like, why don't you just go down and see the team doctor?
Kat
The great doctors just go down.
Julie
And we've had to do that in Montreal to see a kid during the game. You know, things like that. In. In a pinch, we have that amazing resource. And I just. I kind of forget about it. So, long story long, they. They take me down to the. The little, like, examination room at the end of the second intermission, and they get me all, like, they do all my blood pressure, all this stuff, and they. They hook me up to an EKG just real quick.
Kat
And that's the photo I get. I just get a photo. A selfie on the table.
Julie
Yeah. So I'm laying there, I'm laying there, and this room is the room, like, right off the ice that if anything happens to a player during the game, this is where they run off the bench, like, straight to this room. It opens up, and then every, like, Dr. Med, every medical staff, trainer comes in this room to, like, check out the player, get him back on the ice as fast as they can.
Kat
Yep.
Julie
So they are, like, the EKG is, like, finishing up, and all of a sudden the door opens up. It's like, code red. You know, when something happens. The third period has started, and. Oh, yeah. And they're like, oh, wait, wait, wait. Like, you know, giving me privacy. But then it's like, no big man with a red jersey runs in the room. And I'm like, oh, my God. Oh, my God. Oh, my God. Like, what? Like, what's happened? I don't know what's happening. And I.
Kat
Who is it?
Julie
He a 46. And I'm like, oh, my God. My husband. Something has happened to my husband. He's in the medical room. I'm on the gurney. He's standing there spitting blood into the sink. And I'm like, what is happening right now? And he, like, turns around. The doctors are, like, checking out. He got a puck to the face. Long story. Getting to the point. A puck to the face splits his lip open. He's got to get stitches. So he's sitting in the dental chair. I'm sitting. I'm laying on the gurney, getting the. The leads taken off my chest.
Kat
The Petri family is just in shams.
Julie
And then once they finally realize, like, he's got all of his teeth, he just needs a couple stitches, I, like, look back at him, and I'm trying to, like. I'm trying to go invisible at this point, you know, Like, I'm like, what? What am I doing here? And they're like, you're fine. You're fine. Your EKG actually looks really good. You're good to go. And then they're like, be on your way. And I like, as I'm walking out, I'm, like, trying. And I go. I'm like, puck or a stick? And he's like, puck? And I'm like, are you okay? And he's like, yeah, I'm good. I'm like, all right. And he's like, are you okay? And I'm like, yeah, I'm good. And he's like, all right. I just left. See, at that point.
Kat
At that point, I would have been like, so about the spring break that we're going on, can we just, like, drop the kids off with, well, mother in law.
Julie
Everybody was laughing, like, after the fact. Like, the. The massage therapist was kind of taking care of me after the fact, like, getting all the leads taken off me. And she was like, so sweet. Because I was freaking out, because I was like, yes, I have no business being in here, like, so thankful that I had this, like, done. And, like, I can not worry anymore. But then what are the odds that my husband gets it? And I'm like, well, I guess it was better than it was that it was my husband and not some guy on the team is like, what the f is? Well, why doing. And the total.
Kat
That would be. That would be mortifying. Well, you know, we don't like, normal here at Never offside. So I feel like it was just, you know, what. What a finale.
Julie
What a finale. Like, we were.
Kat
We.
Julie
He came up after. He's like. He just is like, what's going on? Like, are you okay? And I'm like, yeah, I'm fine. And, like, all of his teammates, like, by that point, news had spread after the game, and everybody's coming to check on me, and I'm like, no, I'm good. I'm fine. But it was just really funny anyways, and.
Kat
Well, I'm glad you both are okay. I still think maybe you should just, like, go on an adult vacation instead.
Julie
Yeah. So just the. The funny thing is, is when I was walking away, like, my chest really tightened up after that, and I was like, it's. It's the stress of, like, I just got stressed seeing Jeff and, like, her, and I'm like, it's just the stress, I think. So anyways, I'm gonna manifest a real vacation after spring break, but just hilarious. And you can't make it up.
Kat
Comedy of errors. So that's. That's the unhinged part of hockey life sometimes. Especially with pucks flying at their faces. You know, it's weird. It's a weird thing to happen at work. So. So, yeah, speaking of your kids and everything, you know, Will and Mac, they're close to age and to your kids,
Julie
so, yeah, that's actually so wild. I was. I was doing the math, and it is always hilarious when, you know, a veteran's kids are closer in age to players on the team than they are to the actual veteran. So super excited for this conversation. Or I don't even know. With Will Mack.
Kat
Giggle fest, whatever.
Julie
Just silliness all around with. With you, with Kat Tyler and Will Smith and Macklin Celebrini. That's up next.

Kat
Welcome back to Never Offside. As we discussed, Julie is on vacation this week, so I had to call on a special guest host. So welcome Tyler. You are, you're. You're ready to go?
Tyler
Officially got the call. Got some big shoes to fill here with Julie gone, obviously, but I got two of my teammates wrangled up here and obviously a lot of fans have been dying to get them on the show. So I'll introduce them obviously with Will and, uh, Macklin. What's up boys?
Will Smith
What's up? What's up? Thanks for having us.
Macklin Celebrini
Yeah, we appreciate it.
Tyler
You guys, uh, you guys are a little late. Obviously you kind of filled me in briefly but didn't give me the. The full rundown. What happened there at. After the PGA store?
Macklin Celebrini
Yeah. You want to talk?
Will Smith
Well, it was a long day because Mac had to go fix his tooth. And then we met for breakfast, a late breakfast. And then I was like, all right, let's go to the PGA Superstore. Because I had to return a putter and get a different club, which that
Tyler
didn't work, by the way.
Macklin Celebrini
The way he said it, he was like, okay, let's go to the PJ Superstore real quick. We're gonna. I'm just gonna switch this real quick and we're just gonna go to Coochie's thing, then hang out after. I was like, perfect, I'll just hop in with you then.
Will Smith
Not what happened. I said, hey, want to go back to my house and chill out and hang out? He goes, no, let's go do something. Alright, I gotta return my putter. So then we did that, but then we had to go to Cooch's press conference. So we went there and then. So after that I was like, all right, let's go finish. Finish this up at the Superstore. So he was like, no, no, I don't want to go. Blah, blah. He's all in a bad mood. So then I was like, all right, I'll run in quick. So I got my two clubs. And then I was like, okay, but I want that. I need some new grips, too, on the clubs. So I got. He's all freaking pissed in the car, so we're pulling out, and he punches my windshield. And there's a freaking massive circle in my windshield.
Macklin Celebrini
Okay.
Tyler
I mean, you're known to do a couple. He's known to spaz out a little bit.
Will Smith
You think we've been.
Macklin Celebrini
I. I don't have my car. He says, let's go to PJ Superstore real quick. We end up going back there after Cooches thing. He's like, I'll be five minutes. It's 10 minutes away. I'll be five minutes, and we'll head home. Then he gets his clubs regripped. He's like, no, no. It's just gonna be like, 25 minutes. Let's go grab Chipper.
Will Smith
Like, man, four o'.
Macklin Celebrini
Clock. I want to go home. Like, I want to go chill.
Tyler
And then he for sure wanted you to buy it.
Macklin Celebrini
He's like, we're gonna go chipper.
Will Smith
And then we're gonna. We're gonna go.
Macklin Celebrini
So then I. I went like this. It's an unsafe shit.
Will Smith
He went like that to my windshield. And then he didn't even say sorry. He didn't even say sorry. He goes, why would I say sorry? I'm gonna pay for it.
Kat
So what's the state of the windshield right now? Like, what does it look like?
Macklin Celebrini
It looks like a rock.
Will Smith
No, there's a massive circuit.
Macklin Celebrini
Oh, my God. He's just exaggerating. It's insane. It looks like a rock hit it, and it just, like, spread a little bit. Like, that's exactly what it looks like.
Kat
So it has to go into the shop.
Will Smith
Definitely.
Macklin Celebrini
Oh, my God. Yeah. He could drive with it for a year and a half. He'd be fine.
Will Smith
No, not true.
Kat
And our hands.
Jason Demers
Okay.
Macklin Celebrini
Yeah, I barely touched the windshield.
Kat
All right, so where are we right now?
Will Smith
We're at the Marlow residence where I live.
Kat
So for people listening that haven't heard this story, can you guys just explain your very unique living situation this past season?
Will Smith
Yeah. So we were pretty lucky that both the Marlows and the Thorntons are still around in San Jose. So I'm living with the Marlow family and they're in their guest house and Max living with the Thorin family. So it's pretty cool that we get to still be in the NHL, but also got to be with the family aspect of it.
Tyler
So where do you guys spend most of your time? Is it at your place or at. We're at Jumbo's place.
Macklin Celebrini
Well, if you don't, we're with you.
Tyler
What? Okay, okay. In the bunk beds.
Will Smith
Yeah, no, we spent. I don't know, probably here.
Macklin Celebrini
Yeah, most of the time here. Probably.
Tyler
So then you guys are just playing mini sticks with Patty's kids.
Will Smith
Shot that Tick Tock video though, at the Thorntons.
Macklin Celebrini
Yeah.
Tyler
When you guys are doing the. The basketball one.
Macklin Celebrini
Yeah.
Tyler
That was over, what, Christmas, right?
Will Smith
Yeah, yeah, it was like right before I posted on Christmas.
Kat
Okay, so those are like your hockey dads. But I'm sure you've seen the ongoing joke that we're your parents. And you know, I saw some signs recently I think you saw on the ice. I forget where that was. But all that, you know, in reflecting on that, it just led me to one question that I have for you too. Do you guys see Tyler as old?
Will Smith
Yeah.
Macklin Celebrini
Yeah.
Jeff
Okay.
Will Smith
Back ass task played against the North Stars.
Tyler
Yeah, I told. I just told Kat that and she was like, I don't even know what the North Stars are. And then I googled it. They went to Dallas in 1993.
Will Smith
Yeah, you're rookie.
Tyler
Just outrageous.
Jeff
It was a funny joke. It was funny.
Tyler
I mean, that one was actually funny. The other one that like kind of dug deep was when you're saying about my goal celebrations and you're like, oh, yeah. Ever since I was a little kid, me and my buddy used to talk about your cellies all the time. And I'm like, this is so great.
Jeff
How about when you.
Tyler
You can't be saying that.
Macklin Celebrini
Four years ago when I was like 12, you were.
Jeff
I ca. Camp and you're. And you talk.
Tyler
That's right. That was what it was with Burrs, right? Yeah, I was with. I was with Burge and. And I think. I think Kat, you were. You might have been there too, but I don't think you were in it. But yeah, Mac 12. Mac was at the camp.
Macklin Celebrini
Yeah.
Tyler
And it was. It took you a little while to. To bring that up and tell me
Macklin Celebrini
though, because, well, you're the easiest guy to talk to.
Will Smith
So sometimes you get mad.
Tyler
Pretty sure. Well, I get mad because you guys are annoying me.
Jeff
Sometimes you look at me and go, shut up.
Tyler
Well, I had to ask didn't you guys notice last game, Johnny didn't put me in the middle. You two, maybe the last two. Because I finally. I was finally fed up with Johnny, and then he. He set me up.
Macklin Celebrini
So you actually, like, asked not to sit with us?
Tyler
I did.
Will Smith
So we play good in Minnesota and then you split it up.
Tyler
Okay, well, I mean, I guess that's the selfish part. The selfish part of me, because it's just. I couldn't do it anymore.
Macklin Celebrini
Yeah, I mean, it's kind of got yours.
Kat
I was gonna say. How excited were you guys when you guys all got put together?
Will Smith
Well, it's been like that the whole year. So then when we're not together, it's kind of unexpected.
Macklin Celebrini
Yeah.
Will Smith
The one city I was like too over from you, and I was like, what's going on?
Kat
So you two are always together. Obviously, you can't open Instagram or Twitter without seeing that. But, Mac, recently you said that you used to not like each other. Right. So when did this shift happen?
Macklin Celebrini
I mean, it's like anytime you play against someone for so long, you kind of build like a rivalry or whatever. Like, I played against them when I was at Bastille. He was at the National Development Program. I was at bu, he was at bc. Like, I've always played against them. And you don't really love the guys you're playing against, especially when they light you up. So.
Kat
So when did you give in?
Tyler
It's not like he was ever hitting you.
Macklin Celebrini
Yeah, it's not like he plays physical or anything.
Tyler
No, the opposite.
Macklin Celebrini
Not your game.
Will Smith
No, we legit ran bu show.
Macklin Celebrini
I'd be a 62 in the hockey's final, so. No, but I mean, I think once we get to know each other, like we met at rookie camp in the summer and then got to know each other a little bit.
Will Smith
I think he was all quiet at the start, and then I. Then I hope he got. He opened up real quick.
Tyler
Oh, yeah. Weird, because you were probably talking. You probably couldn't get anything else.
Macklin Celebrini
Dude, shut up.
Kat
How is it with all the attention that you guys get together? Like, do you guys, like, feed off each other when it comes to just the social media? People at the Sharks are all. All over you guys. So, like, how is that together?
Will Smith
I think it's good. But I mean, we're like. I mean, there's obviously a lot of videos of us, like, even before games, but, like, that's actually like what we're like even when the cameras aren't on, so.
Tyler
Yeah, well, yeah. Where. Where were we when we had those connecting rooms two games ago.
Macklin Celebrini
Calgary.
Tyler
Yeah, Calgary. So we had legit connecting doors. So we had them open and then I had to keep closing mine because I was scared that they were going to come in, just bombard my room. So like they kept theirs open. So every once, every what, 20, 30 minutes, I'd open mine, sneak over there for a little bit. And then game day, I'm trying to take a nap and they're legit playing like 1v1, like basketball. I can hear them screaming at each other. My entire nap I had to call them, be like, hey guys, like just, just like be quiet a little bit. I'm just. All you hear is them like in a chokehold or something. Ridiculous.
Will Smith
Yeah, but you scored your 30th.
Macklin Celebrini
Yeah, no worries.
Tyler
That's all you.
Macklin Celebrini
Apple.
Tyler
When you guys are obviously at home and away from the rink, what other thing sports do you guys play? Obviously. I know, but for the listeners, I mean, I know that we've golfed together a few times, but what else are you guys doing?
Will Smith
The one day we did like, have you ever seen that like barstool, like gauntlet challenge they do at the office?
Tyler
Yeah. With the cornhole and then the soccer and all that.
Will Smith
We did that in the Marlo's backyard one day with like.
Tyler
Yeah. Oh, yeah. Because he has the. He has the basketball court. Right.
Macklin Celebrini
We legit did it for three hours.
Tyler
Yeah. So what was your guys times?
Will Smith
Well, we did like you had to make three, two hockey shots, football throw, basketball, golf, and then wiffle ball. So we'd get like a minute, I think, right?
Macklin Celebrini
Yeah, I got like 45. You got like a minute and a
Julie
half
Will Smith
Beat him though.
Tyler
I want that one.
Kat
Okay. Who's better in general at sports outside of hockey?
Macklin Celebrini
Me. Well, he's better at golf because he grew up on a country club.
Will Smith
That's not true. So
Macklin Celebrini
I'm better at golf.
Tyler
I mean, I would say Max better at soccer, though. Smitty has like the one power kick
Will Smith
right up Billy's feet. That's like the only thing he has in sewer. We haven't played actual soccer.
Tyler
I mean, there's. You can tell. You can tell when someone has it and when someone does.
Macklin Celebrini
Yeah, you can tell.
Tyler
And Mac has the jeans.
Macklin Celebrini
I have the jeans.
Will Smith
No.
Macklin Celebrini
Yeah.
Will Smith
Both my parents played soccer. He. He plays the same style as me and sewer. What?
Tyler
No, he. He has a little tooth touch game to him.
Will Smith
Well, I like putting guys and I like throwing burgers.
Tyler
What's. I was late in Vancouver coming to the soccer game.
Jeff
What?
Tyler
What was it that happened again? Was it Lily got smoked in the face and then.
Macklin Celebrini
Yeah, how about this guy? It goes up like he.
Tyler
You were crying.
Jeff
It's all over. As usual.
Macklin Celebrini
It comes to him. He boots it at Lily's face. Like, boots it right at his face, gets Lily out. Next time it goes up, I'm about to catch the ball. It's. And like. Because it's like the end of the round, Goody boots went at my face.
Jeff
And then Smitty goes. He goes, oh, yeah. That might have been harder than the one I.
Tyler
So what. What was. What was harder? One of those kicks or the kick that you booted Sharky with?
Will Smith
Oh, Sharky. I tried. Like, he might have a concussion. Still.
Kat
That was crazy. Like, did you know how hard you kicked that ball?
Will Smith
Well, like I said, as hard as I can. He goes, yeah. So. All right, this is my chance.
Kat
Well, you have a love hate relationship with Sharkey.
Will Smith
Yeah. Let's not bring it up.
Kat
You guys are always beating him up a little bit, so it's pretty funny. But yeah, the soccer. You guys have had some crazy things this whole season with, like, the soccer ball. Like, even what happened in Seattle with that fan that snuck in and he was hammered.
Macklin Celebrini
This guy was hammered. He was playing sewer with us.
Kat
Did you know it was a random fan?
Will Smith
His jersey said like zero days sober. Yeah, but I misread it, so I thought he was like, on like sobriety train or something.
Macklin Celebrini
And then. Because it said day sober and then it was like it was a double zero. Yeah, like, I remember.
Kat
So when. When did you find out that it was just a random fan that snuck in that came?
Macklin Celebrini
We knew he was a random fan because he just came out of nowher
Will Smith
and he came out of the bathroom.
Macklin Celebrini
I think he was hammered, like, slurring his words.
Kat
Did you ask him how he got in there?
Will Smith
No, he just kind of invited himself into the circle.
Macklin Celebrini
Insane.
Kat
And you just didn't care. You're like, let's play, like, whatever.
Will Smith
Well, usually we let some people get a kick, but then sometimes people overstay and they're welcome.
Macklin Celebrini
Yeah.
Kat
How's Ty at soccer Brutes?
Macklin Celebrini
Yeah, he's brutal.
Tyler
Okay. Hey. They're laughing because I'm for sure top four on the team when he's one. When he's won for sure.
Macklin Celebrini
You're not. You're not top eight. We're not.
Will Smith
We can't get into this.
Macklin Celebrini
You're not even top eight. All this are better than you. I'm better.
Will Smith
You just get the calls because You're a vet.
Tyler
Eki is not better than me.
Macklin Celebrini
No, Ecky's brutal. He gets out, he's terrible.
Tyler
He's borderline. Not even Swedish, but he's playing okay.
Kat
So there have been like some. This whole season's been really funny as you guys's first NHL season. Obviously not the best with the Sharks record, but just like the crazy funny things like this that have just happened all season long, it's just been like quite ridiculous. So yeah, obviously all that soccer stuff, but we had, we had some other things that came up that we kind of wanted to ask you about. When you guys went to that warriors game and they showed both of you on the screen. Macklin. Yeah. Sorry, Will. Mac, they. They introduced Macklin. But Will, you didn't get introduced. So out of 1 to 10, how'd you feel for that?
Will Smith
We're really bringing this up.
Kat
Yep.
Will Smith
Now I'll give it him. I'll give it to him. I mean his dad works there. Let him get the, you know, the spotlight.
Kat
Were you dying after? Were you making fun of him?
Will Smith
Like we showed up late, I think or something, I don't know. Then the lady comes up like the media person or whatever and said, oh, you're going to Jumbo. I was like, well, should I get out of this real quick or something. I didn't know what was going on. And the next thing you know, we're up. It was up there and I was
Macklin Celebrini
like, oh, I think what happened was I told my dad, hey, can I get a couple tickets for tonight? I'm gonna come to the game. And then he got me the tickets because. And then like there's some. It got like around their PR people that like I was gonna be there but they didn't know who I was coming with. So then we were staying down there, did in the first quarter and I got a shout out and he didn't.
Tyler
I think that's a. That's crazy. That is wild.
Kat
I thought enough time would pass that you. You'd be laughing now, Will.
Will Smith
Well, we went back and they got Jumbo and River, so.
Kat
Alright, so another funny thing that happened to Macklin was obviously a couple weeks ago, the Rangers bus backing into your car. Will, what was your reaction to that?
Will Smith
Well, I didn't know what was going on cuz I saw him like standing on his phone and then I was like, what's he doing? He's in an all pissy mood or something. We were going somewhere and they.
Macklin Celebrini
We just lost six one.
Tyler
I think we were going to la. Going to la.
Macklin Celebrini
La. And we just lost six, one.
Will Smith
Well, you're like, yo, you hit my car. I'm like, who? He's like, the bus driver. He's standing right there. And then I was like.
Kat
And, like, all the fans were, like, standing right there, too.
Macklin Celebrini
Right?
Tyler
There were so many fans. That game, too.
Macklin Celebrini
Yeah, yeah. It was sold out.
Tyler
Whose vehicle do you think got more damage, obviously, with the windshield getting broken today, apparently. And then, Will, I know you've accidentally bumped into a couple things.
Will Smith
Gate at the rink, backed into a
Macklin Celebrini
couple poles,
Will Smith
broke a windshield, broke a tail light.
Macklin Celebrini
You broke a windshield, you broke a tail light.
Tyler
Yeah, they just got their licenses. They just got old enough.
Kat
Oh, yeah, Mac, didn't you get yours? Like, a couple.
Macklin Celebrini
Whole tariff thing. I don't know.
Will Smith
He always says this, though. Remember he said that at lunch the other day.
Tyler
This is ridiculous.
Will Smith
Stupid comment.
Kat
Like, you're blaming not having a license.
Will Smith
I think he was serious.
Macklin Celebrini
Oh, my. You guys don't know how to take a joke. I don't think.
Kat
Sometimes I forget that you're Canadian, Mac.
Macklin Celebrini
Yeah. Yeah.
Tyler
He's, like, kind of a trader, though. He. He went to VU. He went to play in the USHL.
Macklin Celebrini
You played in LA for 100 years.
Tyler
I've fully committed that I'm a trader working on the green card.
Macklin Celebrini
All right, that's insane.
Will Smith
There we go. There we go.
Kat
Been married for how many years? Like, almost seven or something. And he's finally doing it, so.
Macklin Celebrini
Yeah.
Kat
Okay, something else I'm obsessed with this season. I don't know if you guys have seen this, but there's this whole fan conspiracy about you two and your suits, so. Have you seen that?
Will Smith
No.
Macklin Celebrini
What's that?
Kat
Okay, so you guys have those suits. I think they're like, you have the teal one and you have the gray one, and they're kind of similar. They're, like, checkered almost. There's a fan conspiracy that you guys randomly swap those every once in a while to mess with people.
Will Smith
We swap each other's suits?
Tyler
No, that'd be gross.
Kat
Well, we have to debunk the conspiracy, so I guess you just did, which is very upsetting.
Will Smith
We both have teal ones and we both have gray ones.
Kat
Oh, so you have matching ones?
Macklin Celebrini
No, we didn't like them.
Will Smith
Yeah, they're different. They just look alike.
Kat
Okay, so that's probably where this can speak.
Will Smith
A lot of times we show up and we're wearing the same one. We didn't talk about.
Macklin Celebrini
Yeah, we didn't really talk about it.
Tyler
You for sure, like, hey, I'm gonna wear this one today.
Macklin Celebrini
Hey, I'm wearing this one. You have to wear, too.
Kat
All right. Well, that's. That's funny. I was actually gonna see if I could find pictures of you swapping or whatever, but I guess you just have the same. Same style, so there you go.
Will Smith
How would we do that?
Kat
I don't know. Just to mess with people. You guys are funny and weird, so, like, it kind of makes sense. Seems like something you two would do.
Will Smith
Like, seems like something we would do.
Kat
Well, guess what? You have one more game tomorrow, so. So, yeah. Also, obviously, the sleepover, everyone talked about it a billion times over, but congrats, Mac, on your first NHL hat trick. Obviously, my DMs blew up because then you all scored as well, so everyone was asking.
Will Smith
I didn't think about that.
Kat
Well, I get. I get the DMs. Whenever you three move, I get a DM. So, honestly, that's. That happened after that. So that's what everyone was wondering was, was there a conversation of how to celebrate that night? So.
Will Smith
Well, we lost eight to seven, so we weren't.
Tyler
Yeah, I feel like that was. Everyone was in such a weird mood because I didn't think about it for sure.
Macklin Celebrini
That didn't even feel like a hockey game. That felt like three on three. It was insane.
Tyler
Yeah. Which is crazy. And then I think that's one of, if not Flurry's last game, too, in the regular season that he was gonna start. So Max has ruined his. Ruined his last NHL start in the NHL.
Kat
We just had his wife on last episode, and I wasn't gonna bring up that game. And she brought it up. Start you guys up.
Macklin Celebrini
What'd she say?
Kat
Well, she. She was just talking about how, like, special the game was with, like, the kids before. Before on the ice with him. And then she's like. And then I realized the things I won't miss. It was basically you three, you know, lighting them up.
Macklin Celebrini
So I asked for one of his sticks because it was like, his last game or whatever. Top said he had never gotten one of his sticks. And I was praying that he sent one over. Just.
Tyler
I was gonna be so. Because I saw one. I saw one in. In the equipment room, but I think he gave it to the rooster or something. Yeah, but I saw it. I'm like, if that's going to Mac, I'm gonna saw it in half.
Kat
Well, yeah, Back to the age thing. That was like, the whole game was them just comparing you guys ages and stuff. So pretty funny. But just one More thing with the sleepover. Well, the one thing that I really stuck out when Ty was telling me the story was you trying to take the King mattress into your room from Chai's room. What was like, the end game, gonna be there.
Will Smith
Well, we've done that before. To Deli. He put his mattress in the shower
Kat
this season.
Macklin Celebrini
Oh, yeah.
Tyler
Has he got you guys back yet for doing that, by the way?
Will Smith
What do you mean? He started it?
Macklin Celebrini
Yeah, he did start it.
Tyler
Yeah, but you guys kind of took it.
Kat
Wait, go back. Explain. What's this ongoing prank with Deli.
Tyler
Deli pranked them earlier in the year.
Jeff
Oh, no.
Macklin Celebrini
Throughout year.
Tyler
Throughout the year. That I wish we could talk about, but we can't. We can't talk about it.
Macklin Celebrini
Yeah.
Will Smith
We eventually found.
Tyler
We found out that it was Delhi, and then they got him back, put his mattress in the shower, just, like, tornadoed his room pretty much.
Kat
Okay. And you guys stay at some pretty nice hotels.
Will Smith
This is actually in Calgary, too.
Macklin Celebrini
Yeah, this was in Calgary.
Will Smith
He acted like nothing happened.
Macklin Celebrini
Yeah, it was kind of weird.
Will Smith
Yeah. We're scared because we knew get you
Tyler
back in, like, 10 years. In, like 10 years, something's gonna happen to you guys.
Will Smith
Delhi, back to what we did. Where Nothing. You were at the dinner when we were coming up with ideas.
Macklin Celebrini
We were talking about stealing his truck.
Tyler
And. And I was with you at breakfast, too.
Macklin Celebrini
Yeah, that was a little awkward. I don't think he knew it was us. I think we confessed to it.
Kat
Is this, like. Is he gonna find out?
Will Smith
We were just like, hey, talk. Did he say anything to you? Did he say anything to you? Because, like, we knew he was gonna call someone immediately when he walked in his room.
Tyler
I think he faced. Yeah, he FaceTimed me and. Me and Connie, maybe that night. Yeah, but, like, he knew it was you guys. Like, there was. There really wasn't any other. Any other culprit. Unless, like, actually would have been funny if, like, I did it and then just blamed it on you guys. You know what I mean?
Macklin Celebrini
Yeah.
Kat
Have you guys pranked each other?
Will Smith
No.
Macklin Celebrini
Like, us, too.
Will Smith
People were just ganging up on someone.
Macklin Celebrini
Yeah.
Kat
You guys are partners or not. You don't go against each other just yet.
Macklin Celebrini
Yeah, I mean, we mess with each other, but it's not like, anything. Because if we were pranking each other the whole year, that'd be.
Will Smith
It would get ugly. It would get ugly.
Macklin Celebrini
Like, wouldn't even be enjoyable.
Tyler
Like, someone's car would get blown up or something. Who did that?
Macklin Celebrini
No windshield, no windows, no roof, no wheels. Like, would be a mess.
Kat
I mean, you've got all the time in the world to make that eventually a thing. So I feel like that's funny because that also reminds me of something Ty told me that you guys do in playing sting pong against each other.
Macklin Celebrini
Yeah, we do that.
Will Smith
Yeah, we do.
Macklin Celebrini
Yeah.
Kat
Explain.
Tyler
I remember the. The one we had the day off, the one day, and one of our equipment guys, literally out of nowhere just sends me a photo of the two of them and their backs and the welts that they had on their backs. Like, I would have been on the IR if I had dwelt like that sometimes.
Will Smith
How long did the bruises blast music and just play and then, like, if you're in, some guys will like, the equipment staff will just come in and like, be like, what are you guys doing? Because they can hear us, like, screaming.
Macklin Celebrini
Yeah, well, because they hurt.
Will Smith
Yeah, they do.
Macklin Celebrini
Like, we'll go on the ice, we'll like shoe pox, and then we'll come off and then we'll be like, sting pong. Yeah. So then we turn on music, Then we. Or we play ping pong. Then we're like, sting pong. Yeah. But then we go into sting pong and then we're there for like two hours. And then our backs are mangled.
Will Smith
And then your shoulder hurts from swinging so hard.
Kat
And how long do these like, welts last on you guys?
Macklin Celebrini
Like a day. Like, they don't last long, but they hurt.
Will Smith
They do hurt.
Tyler
You guys jump right in the cold tip after and then. Then it's all good.
Macklin Celebrini
Literally. Yeah.
Will Smith
It's the only way to make me feel better.
Kat
So reflecting on this season again, as your first season together in the NHL, has there been any favorite moments?
Macklin Celebrini
Sewer game in Vancouver?
Will Smith
Yeah, I was actually. I had two. I was coming out of my eyes. I was laughing so hard.
Tyler
Where was. Where was your guys favorite place to play this year? I mean, I know I hyped Chicago up a lot with the anthem and stuff. Obviously Boston, you would have enjoyed going back to Boston.
Will Smith
But besides Boston, probably, like, obviously MSG is like, everyone always says that, but I mean, Chicago, the anthem, I loved Minnesota too. And then the Bell Center.
Tyler
So, yeah, Minnesota was loud. It was very loud, actually.
Will Smith
I think the Bell center is awesome. I love that place.
Kat
Were there any cities you haven't been to yet?
Macklin Celebrini
I mean, I think a lot of, like, pretty much every city is like, it's unique and like, it's good. Like, I like a lot of the cities in the NHL. Like, good hotels, nice ranks, like Every place, every ranks a little bit different. But I mean, there are a lot of really, really cool spots that you wouldn't really think of.
Kat
Do you guys ever separate for dinners
Will Smith
if we have like family? Like. Yeah, rarely.
Kat
Though shifting to next season because obviously Ty's been kind of making fun of me that you guys have. Making fun of living with us and kicking me out.
Macklin Celebrini
What?
Kat
Fess up. What do you. What exactly did you say to Tyler?
Will Smith
No,
Macklin Celebrini
he said he wanted to kick.
Will Smith
We didn't say you had to leave.
Macklin Celebrini
We wanted to make fun.
Tyler
They said buy Devo Samuel's house and we're gonna live in the guest house. It's literally word for word what they said.
Macklin Celebrini
Yeah.
Will Smith
And then you go, oh, I'll kick cat out so we can just have a man.
Macklin Celebrini
Yeah, you did say that.
Tyler
It came out of the mouth probably.
Kat
What'd you say?
Macklin Celebrini
Have fun on the couch tonight.
Kat
Yeah, literally. He's going in that back unit.
Jeff
He's going in the sauna.
Tyler
I will go in the sauna.
Kat
Okay, so. But real, real realistically, what are you guys. What's it looking like next season for you two? Living wise?
Will Smith
We haven't really. We've talked about a little bit, but I think we said once the year ends we'll kind of talk about it and see what comes of it.
Kat
Do you have a favorite area that you hang like in San Jose? Los Gatos, anywhere.
Macklin Celebrini
I mean we both really like. I mean Los Gatos. It's nice.
Will Smith
We like to go to coffee shops and just like people watch. We do that a lot of days.
Macklin Celebrini
Really weird.
Will Smith
Yeah. Not a weird way like enjoy the weather and stuff.
Tyler
That was weird.
Macklin Celebrini
That was really weird.
Will Smith
We do that every day.
Kat
What?
Jeff
Like once every couple weeks?
Will Smith
We go there every other day.
Macklin Celebrini
No, no, we don't.
Tyler
What's your guys favorite restaurant around here besides. Well, you guys are doing a pre game at Rollotti sometimes now, but Italian
Macklin Celebrini
brothers, all those Cafe Rollottis.
Kat
Do you sit outside and people watch there.
Will Smith
Okay, now you're gonna make it sound like it's weird.
Macklin Celebrini
I'm not watching people. He's watching people. I didn't know we were people watch.
Will Smith
Well, me and Tom are go there as people don't know. Tom is Jack Thompson. We go there almost every other day.
Kat
So now that we've brought you to a weird place, I do have a weird question for you too. So you know when you look at someone and you can just know right away what animal? Dog, any kind of animal they'd be. What do you see each other as animal wise, give each other a look.
Jason Demers
See?
Julie
Think about it.
Will Smith
Don't say. Don't say some stupid answer.
Macklin Celebrini
I know. I know exactly what you say. Yours first.
Will Smith
No, I'm still thinking.
Tyler
Okay, what would. What would will be?
Will Smith
Don't say something.
Macklin Celebrini
A donkey.
Julie
Because he's.
Jeff
He's like, loud. He's like talk. Like, he just talks all the time.
Macklin Celebrini
Loud.
Jeff
His laugh, like, all that stuff.
Macklin Celebrini
And he's not the brightest. So.
Jeff
What are you talking about? Have you ever heard a donkey laugh?
Kat
That's how Will laughs.
Macklin Celebrini
No, it's just how he sounds and he talks.
Kat
All right, so Will's a donkey in Max eyes. All right, so vice versa.
Will Smith
I don't even know.
Macklin Celebrini
Don't say something weird now.
Will Smith
Well, I don't. I'm trying to think, like, I was gonna be nice and give you something nice, but not anymore. Like, let's just do it.
Macklin Celebrini
There's no nice or not nice. It's just. What?
Will Smith
Like, if I said you were like, oh, you're a dog, that'd be nice. But you're not maybe like a parrot. Just cuz, like, they can talk a little bit. They're always kind of yapping and like, jittering around and like, spazzing out a
Macklin Celebrini
little bit with a parrot.
Will Smith
No, it's nice.
Macklin Celebrini
Yeah.
Kat
Okay, so you're a donkey and a parrot.
Will Smith
People love donkeys.
Tyler
That's so funny.
Will Smith
What would. What would Toph be?
Tyler
Golden retriever.
Will Smith
Yeah, you're a donkey too.
Tyler
Okay.
Will Smith
No, you're far from it.
Tyler
You're like a warthog. You guys are wild.
Kat
All right, explain. Explain. Explain your shrek.
Jeff
That's uncalled for. Oh, my God. I would never say something like that. I would never say something like that to you.
Macklin Celebrini
That's insane.
Kat
Well, last one. What's Thornton?
Macklin Celebrini
Jumbo's like a. Like a golden retriever. Yeah, he's like a dog.
Will Smith
Like, he's happy.
Macklin Celebrini
Yeah. Really happy all the time. It's a great. Every day's a great day. Super welcoming, super nice. You know what I mean?
Kat
So we gave. We gave him the one kind of nice one everyone else got. Ty got thrown under the most.
Macklin Celebrini
What sweetie said about Ty was kind of insane.
Kat
Well, that's crazy. Well, you have something your mom was telling me about. Every year in Boston, you like. It's like your favorite thing of the year that you go back to. It's happening. What, next week?
Macklin Celebrini
What is it, the reenactment?
Will Smith
Yeah. In my town, Lexington crews should get up at like 4am every morning, go down there and they'll reenact the whole battle of Lexington and Concord. So the British and the. The Minutemen. So it's pretty cool.
Kat
Macklin, I think you should join.
Will Smith
He yaps about everything. On the bus the other day, he's like, oh, that's the stupidest thing I've ever heard. Oh, then he thought, he thought, he thought the battle of Lexington. Concord is Lexington, my town. And then they went back to Concord in England. He thought they were just going back and forth like a home and away.
Macklin Celebrini
That's not what I said. That's what he interpreted.
Kat
It would just take like years at a time and like an old school ship to go back.
Will Smith
I tried to explain it to him. He's like, you're not historian. You don't know what you're talking about.
Kat
I'm like, well, I would love to see you both like dressed up in like timepieces together at that thing eventually. That'd be pretty funny to see.
Macklin Celebrini
You imagine I'm on Concord side, you're on Lexington for battling it out.
Kat
I think we'll start wrapping things up and how we do that is we always ask some quick hitter questions. So I'm going to ask you a bunch of questions so you think of the first things that. That comes to mind. So what TV show are you watching together right now?
Will Smith
We watch more movies, but the tires. Shane Gillis.
Macklin Celebrini
We were watching that. Yeah.
Kat
Oh, yeah. When Ty. When we ran into him at the Super Bowl. Ty was pumped to send you guys a picture.
Will Smith
I want to meet him.
Macklin Celebrini
Real.
Will Smith
He seems awesome.
Macklin Celebrini
We gotta meet.
Kat
Is he. He's your favorite comedian? Probably.
Macklin Celebrini
Yeah.
Will Smith
I just think he's an all around good guy. He just seems like.
Macklin Celebrini
It seems like a great guy.
Kat
Favorite movies you throw on together on the road genres. What are we watching?
Will Smith
Kind of depends. Sometimes we get into like John Wick or comedy.
Kat
Yeah.
Macklin Celebrini
It's just random.
Will Smith
Whatever we're feeling.
Macklin Celebrini
Yeah. Whatever we put on.
Kat
Do we ever throw on like a rom com?
Macklin Celebrini
Yeah. Yeah.
Will Smith
Oh, what was the movie?
Macklin Celebrini
Definitely maybe. Yeah. That's a good one.
Kat
Mac, you can answer this. How do we feel about scary movies?
Macklin Celebrini
I don't like them. I don't like scary movies.
Kat
Not for.
Macklin Celebrini
Yeah, I don't really want to get scared.
Kat
Video game of choice if you guys play together.
Will Smith
Pga.
Macklin Celebrini
Yeah. Pga.
Kat
Most used emoji. And act it out, please.
Macklin Celebrini
And act it out.
Kat
Yep.
Will Smith
Crying Laughing 1 yeah, do it.
Macklin Celebrini
Cry. Laughing.
Kat
That's so on brand. It's crazy.
Will Smith
So don't even know what that means.
Kat
Well, I actually thought that this would be more of a giggle fest than you guys actually putting real world words in this entire interview. So for that to be your most used emoji, kind of checks out.
Will Smith
Favorite song, Pony by Ginuin.
Kat
Sing a lyric.
Will Smith
You sing it. You like that song?
Jeff
I can't remember.
Macklin Celebrini
You have a dance to it. So sing.
Jeff
Oh, yes, you do.
Tyler
You know it.
Will Smith
Do you know what song I'm talking about?
Kat
Oh, yeah, I want to hear it. Even that intro, you can just sing that. The part of that intro.
Will Smith
It's like that.
Macklin Celebrini
Yeah, I just don't know. I don't know the lyrics.
Will Smith
I'm forgetting him right now.
Macklin Celebrini
Reason.
Kat
Have you ever cooked for each other?
Will Smith
No.
Macklin Celebrini
Unless. Oh, how about this time? So looking for food after the game? There's no. No, we, like, get some from the rink, but then I think it was like, a Saturday or something. We have Sunday off. We just want to, like. We went to the grocery store, grabbed a couple things. It's like, all right, let's just grab, like, a small microwave pizza so we can just like. Or throw it in the. He has, like, this pizza oven here. Throw it in the oven. Just have a slice. So we go grab it. He puts it in the oven. We're waiting for it. 20, 30 minutes goes by, takes it out, and he, like, looks at it.
Will Smith
He goes.
Macklin Celebrini
I think there's a. Or he goes to cut it, and he's like, was I supposed to cook it with the cardboard under it? We were like, ah, it looked good, though. Could we still eat it?
Jeff
Like, because it was, like.
Macklin Celebrini
Looked pretty good. But no, we ended up just throwing it away.
Kat
You probably order a lot, then. Probably answer this question. A bunch. But what's your, like, cookies order?
Will Smith
Warm chocolate chip cookie. I like glass of milk with it.
Kat
Great. And do you have a favorite place that you. Awkward. Do you have a favorite place that you order from?
Will Smith
Well, we usually only get on the
Kat
road, but what hotel has the best one?
Will Smith
The one in Fort Lauderdale.
Macklin Celebrini
I didn't have that one. We weren't roommates.
Kat
So you're not always roommates?
Will Smith
Depends. Like, if we call up guys or something. Depends.
Kat
Finally, we'll wrap this up. Your favorite way to spend an off day together?
Will Smith
Probably. Golfing.
Macklin Celebrini
Yeah, I was just gonna say golf.
Will Smith
Breakfast.
Macklin Celebrini
Yeah, Get a nice breakfast and go golf. Grab a bite to eat after.
Will Smith
Watch a movie, maybe.
Macklin Celebrini
Hot tub. Watch a movie.
Will Smith
Sounds like a good day.
Kat
Love it. Well, thank you guys so much for coming on. Never offside. I'll see you guys at my house shortly. I'm excited to see you guys at this end of the year party. So come, come with all of your personality because we'll need it. All right, thanks guys.
Will Smith
See ya. Thank you.
Kat
All right, well I'm excited for you to listen to the episode. Grade Tyler on his co hosting skills.
Julie
I can't let him take my day job.
Kat
No, far from it.
Julie
All right, well we're out of here. We're making our way down south to Houston and and just follow along, follow here. Have the best break and see you guys next time.
In this lively and laughter-filled episode, host Kat Toffoli, with guest co-host Tyler Toffoli (stepping in for Julie Petry, who is on family spring break), brings together San Jose Sharks rookies Will Smith and Macklin Celebrini for their much-anticipated joint podcast debut. With the NHL season winding down, the episode captures a fresh, behind-the-scenes look at the chaos, camaraderie, and unfiltered antics that define life as young players in the league—and surrogate “off-ice sons” to the podcast’s hosts. From broken windshields to pranks in luxury hotels, roommate shenanigans, near-disastrous spring breaks, and playful jabs at “elder statesman” Tyler, it's a humorous, honest, and endearing look at hockey life off the ice.
