NFL Cover Zero with Matt Jones and Drew Franklin is a production of the NFL and iHeart podcast.
Tony Ayo
Foreign.
Matt Jones
It is NFL Cover Zero ready to rock on the last week of July. Getting ready closer to NFL preseason training camp opens next week. We were going to do a training camp tour but it ended up not happening. But we are going to tour the training camps in our hearts. Drew Franklin, Matt Jones, Billy R Sports Drew, nice to see you. Thank you guys for filling in the gaps last week. I heard you. What did you do?
Drew Franklin
We built our own schedule. If we could go to five games, we picked the weeks and the games and the cities ended up being funny because Billy ended up at two Bengals games and in Chicago twice. So it kind of got random.
Billy R
Yeah. Which are the two teams you want to see twice, but we're also gone
Drew Franklin
on every single holiday in Chicago twice.
Matt Jones
Like, the Bears are going to be fun this year. I would argue. I would argue. If you're talking marquee teams for this season alone, I mean, it's like the Chiefs are certainly probably number one. Maybe the Bills are number two. But, I mean, I would argue you can make a strong case the Bears are number three, wouldn't you?
Drew Franklin
Well, two out of Billy's five games, he's in Chicago. The big takeaway is we both committed to Thanksgiving and Christmas games, and he committed to a New Year's game. So we just decided we hate our families and running for the.
Matt Jones
I understand Billy's about to get married, so your family is going to hate you soon. So it's.
Drew Franklin
It's.
Matt Jones
It's. It's working well. Well, I was. Was traveling around. You know, I. The.
I
The.
Matt Jones
When you meet people and you say your job's a sports announcer, it's always interesting to see what the first thing they say is. And you can see the ubiquitousness of the NFL, because if I introduce myself as ksr, you know, people will ask me about Kentucky basketball or whatever. If I introduce myself, though, as from espn, they sort of look at me like, oh, that's cool. And then you never know what the next thing they're going to say is, because it could be anything, because they think at espn, well, you must know everything about sports.
Tony Ayo
Yeah.
Drew Franklin
Are you on SportsCenter?
Matt Jones
I did have one of the more difficult questions, though. I was in the airport, and I was about to fly from Denver to New York. Okay. So sitting in the airport, and this guy comes up and he sits next to me, and he sees I'm on my computer, and he goes, big sports fan. And I was like, yeah, actually, I said, you know, I do smart for espn. And he goes, what do you think about my Jaguars this year? I realized, like, no one's ever asked me that question ever about anything. And I was like, duval? No, but that's a hard thing to have a strong Jaguars opinion. So I go, well, I think they're going to build on last year's success, but I can't think of a team that would be almost more random to be asked a Denver to New York flight. Well, what do you think about my Jaguars?
Drew Franklin
Yeah, I was gonna say, unless you're in Jacksonville. I didn't know that they got out
Matt Jones
and went related to Liam Cohen.
Drew Franklin
But also, there's a pressure since you said you work for espn, they expect you to break down the three deep and people accept.
Matt Jones
I don't even bring up the NFL because that would be a conversation that would be really hard because then they would expect. Well, I mean, are you, what do you like our secondary this year?
Drew Franklin
New special teams coach. What do you think about him?
Matt Jones
Yeah, big on the secondary. I one time on ESPN said the Bills really had to improve their secondary and the guy goes, I was like, I don't think they did in the off season. The guy looked at me, my co host and he said, you know that they signed four new guys in the secondary. And I was like, yeah, but I don't agree with them.
Drew Franklin
Could have gotten five. Came up one short of what I thought they needed.
Matt Jones
I thought they needed five and they only got four. Well, we're going to give you the news, but first I decided, you know, we have a way you can communicate with the show. 772-774-5254. So if you have a text you would like to send 772-774-5254. I assembled about three weeks worth of questions.
Drew Franklin
Okay.
Matt Jones
And I thought I would bring them up. These are questions that are not very specific but I, but are good for, for the show.
Drew Franklin
So I have five that it's like our mailbag.
Matt Jones
Let's call it the NFL Cover zero mailbag.
Drew Franklin
All right.
Matt Jones
If you cannot get Kyle Brandt, you ask us these questions. So I'm going to read you first question. What is the best and worst uniform combination in the NFL? So if you're talking about all the uniforms that, that a team will wear both their home their way and their alt uniforms, what do you think are the best and the worst? Drew, I'll let you. Let's do, let's do best first. What would you.
Drew Franklin
I got to think about best. I had it worse pretty quickly.
Matt Jones
What would your, what would your best be? Is there a, you know, you could go with the star, obviously with Cowboys, the classic or maybe you like something unique and fun.
Drew Franklin
I think I'm leaning traditional. You know, sometimes I like when they change. I don't know on the traditional end. I'll do a fun one. In traditional. The packers are kind of timeless. Yellow and green. You don't see that in many sports anywhere in any league. One of the original teams, been there forever, they don't change it much. So I think if you want a good classic look, I'm going with Green Bay. But a fun look. I actually enjoy Billy's Buccaneers. I like the Logo. I like the color scheme also kind of unique. I like when they dip into the Creamsicle orange throwbacks. So I'll give those two answers. One is for tradition and the other
Matt Jones
for my favorite just overall look, I agree with you. I think if you were just to say what the best uniform is. The Buccaneers cream sickle is the best. But the problem is there are other uniforms I hate. So they to me have the widest range of floor and ceiling. When they wear the Creamsicle, I think it's the best. But their other one is like silver and brown.
Drew Franklin
What if it's not silver? Pewter. Is that the official color?
Billy R
Pewter?
Matt Jones
It's like copper and it makes me go. It is. It is terrible. It reminds me of. Did you see the clip of Marcelo Hernandez and Kevin Hart on the Today show?
Drew Franklin
No.
Matt Jones
It's a great. I bet that movie's terrible. There's a movie on Netflix. It's got to be terrible.
Drew Franklin
I've seen reviews about it and they were not positive.
Matt Jones
It's got a lot of people I like in it. I like Marcel Hernandez, I like the dorky red haired guy. But their interview on the Today show is really good because Marcelo Hernandez does an impression of Kevin Hart. But in it you need to look at Kevin Hart's shirt because he. Marcel looks at him and goes of all the colors that you could have chosen, you told you picked that rusty silver. Disgusting. That's the Buccaneers regular uniforms. It looks like rust and silver has combined.
Drew Franklin
But have you seen that anywhere else
Matt Jones
that he wore on the Today show?
Drew Franklin
I agree that that color, if we can call it, maybe it's a metal. Is it a precious gym? I don't even know what it is. But I love the flag pirate logo.
Matt Jones
I do like one of the better
Drew Franklin
logos in the league. That's what carries it for me.
Matt Jones
As far as the packers like the. You know, they tell you I had an ex girlfriend say never wear yellow, especially if you're white. Never wear yellow and I wear yellow pants.
Drew Franklin
The top is never yellow.
Matt Jones
That's true. So I'm not going to go with that, but I think that's an understandable one. Billy, what would your best with traditional
Drew Franklin
like I think also you said the Cowboys also think of the Bears. They just haven't changed much in many years.
Matt Jones
Yeah, well, you only get. You took two, you don't get five.
Drew Franklin
Okay, what about your conversation?
Billy R
I love the Creamsicles, but if we're going alternate uniforms, I also like the Chargers powder blue.
Matt Jones
So which team?
Billy R
The powder blue I'll go with the Chargers.
I
You like.
Matt Jones
So for overall, uniform package, you're taking the charges? That was the question.
Billy R
Well, that's tough. I mean, I got a lot of alternates I like.
Matt Jones
I. That's not the qu. You have to focus on the questions asked, Billy.
Billy R
I think the worst is the Browns.
Matt Jones
Okay, but you still haven't answered the question. The question was, what's the best?
Billy R
Oh, I don't know. I'll go with. I'll go with the Classic as well. Not the Chargers. I will go with the San Francisco 49ers.
Tab Ramos
Okay.
Drew Franklin
Gold.
Billy R
Yeah, the red and gold.
Drew Franklin
That's what your Bucks wanted to be, and they got the color wrong.
Billy R
Well, the Bucks, they changed their logo in uniform colors recently, and I think they've got it right, but they looked like an arena football team there for a while. Overall, I'm going San Francisco 49ers.
Matt Jones
All right. I think that's a pretty good pick. I'm going to go with. I'm going to be a homer and take the Bears. I think the c. You know, they do the. For a long time, it was just the blue. Now they kind of do a black as well. The road is the white, but it's orange and blue. Orange and blue is not a color combination you see a lot, so it's unique. So I'm going to take the Bears as the best.
Drew Franklin
The gsh. Can't forget the gsh.
Matt Jones
George something. Hallis.
Drew Franklin
Alice. George S. Hallis.
Matt Jones
George Samuel Hallis.
Drew Franklin
Okay.
Matt Jones
As far as. All right, what about the worst?
Drew Franklin
I feel like the Browns are like their own category here.
Matt Jones
What. What else? What would be your next one?
Drew Franklin
The Vikings come to mind.
Matt Jones
Okay. I like very purple.
Drew Franklin
Nothing against purple. I guess you have the Viking horn things playing your logo, but I don't love it. Feels pretty generic.
Matt Jones
I agree with that.
Drew Franklin
I would go there.
Matt Jones
I think that's.
Drew Franklin
I just don't have much pop. They don't have the tradition of the ones we've named, and they don't have, like, a fun logo either. It's just kind of me.
Matt Jones
Okay, what about you?
Billy R
First thing that came to mind past the Browns were the Seahawks. I just. I don't think the neon green works.
Matt Jones
I love the neon. Yeah, I kind of like it.
Tony Ayo
I.
Matt Jones
You know, we were around a lot, obviously, at the super bowl, and I kind of think, oddly, that color pops that kind of blue and neon green. I didn't like their old ones, which were silvery.
Drew Franklin
More of a royal blue.
Matt Jones
Yes, I do. I actually kind of like this. I Think it's sort of. It's hot flashy, but not like the menopause hot flash. Like the sort of fun hot flashy.
Billy R
The opposite of the traditional uniforms that maybe I like a little bit more.
Matt Jones
Okay. I would say the worst for me would be the Jets. It's just green and white and just the word jets.
Drew Franklin
They might have, like, an airplane wing on the T. Maybe. Getting creative.
Matt Jones
Okay. Maybe I would like a plane.
I
Yeah.
Drew Franklin
There's actual jet on it.
Amazon Health AI Announcer
Yeah.
Matt Jones
And then, you know, every game it's a different jet.
Drew Franklin
I think they're the only team that actually spells out their mascot on their helmet.
Matt Jones
Yeah. It's like they don't trust us to spell it correctly.
Drew Franklin
Maybe the Raiders. I think the Raiders says Raiders.
Matt Jones
The Raiders have that guy that's like, black. And it is silver and black. It's tough. So another one.
Drew Franklin
I considered this might be a hot take. I think some people like this one. The Lions logo doesn't really do it for me.
Matt Jones
Oh, see, I kind of like that. It's a lion.
Drew Franklin
I get it. It's a lion. I don't know. Maybe it's the silver and blue.
Billy R
I don't know.
Drew Franklin
Just never loved it.
Matt Jones
Yeah. When I see the lines when it would always be like, mediocre game on Thanksgiving, but now they're fun, so it's not. It doesn't feel like that as much. All right, second question. I never hear you guys talk about fantasy football. What are your opinions on fantasy football?
Drew Franklin
I quit playing 10 years ago, and I'll never come back. I played in a league. I was good. I think I won. Lost one week the entire year, ran through the playoffs. The commissioner told me he did not collect any money and that I was the only person that paid in the beginning. So I just got my money back, and then they told me to go collect from everyone else. Never saw money from anyone. So it's. Even though I enjoyed it.
Matt Jones
I was telling you that was more about the league you were in.
Drew Franklin
It soured the experience for me. I went like 16 and 1. What more do you want from me? He's like, hey, man, you're the only one that ever paid in, so here's your 50 bucks back.
Matt Jones
I always want to play, but by week two, I'm bored.
Drew Franklin
Yeah, you gotta be committed.
Matt Jones
You gotta be.
Drew Franklin
Nobody likes the.
Matt Jones
First of all, you need to be in a league where other people are committed to. The problem is, if you're in a league where only half the people are playing, then that gets frustrating. And then people quit at the end. I would like to be in a league. I wish we could find like 15 people that really cared. Do it to where there's like real stakes involved. Punishments, rewards, you know, beatings, like those kinds of things so that like it really mattered. And then I think I would enjoy it. But I've never been able to find that league. I was in a league once with like Bobby Bones and all of his friends. And I think his friends probably were like, who is this person? Because I never met any of them.
Drew Franklin
No one's messaging you.
Matt Jones
And so like they were talking trash to each other and be like, you know, this was like when we had burgers in 2007 in Pasadena and I was like, I wasn't there. So I, I wish I could do it with people.
Drew Franklin
I knew the best part because I used to be all about it until that, that one experience. The best part is getting together and doing a live draft. I've done that several times. Done it at a bar before. I've done it in a garage where
Matt Jones
we have a big. You know, you have a board.
Drew Franklin
That is the absolute best part. The auto drafting and sitting on a computer. Not nearly as fun.
Matt Jones
Would you, do you think the Snake draft or would you rather do. I know some people do auctions or that kind of thing sometimes you like,
Drew Franklin
keep a player from the year before.
Matt Jones
Yeah, I would love to do one where I could like, keep a player and feel like I'd invested in them. So how do we find. I think it would be fun to find a group of people that were very serious. How do we do that? How do we get 13 new friends?
Drew Franklin
I would come out of retirement for NFL Cover 0. I think we'd all take it seriously.
Matt Jones
But we are only four in Kentucky. Do you think we could find Billy a serious group? But the problem is we're not going to have any shared history. Like, are we not going to be able to bust each other's chests?
Billy R
Well, it's got to start somewhere. Like minded individuals that listen to covers live. Well, we kick them out.
Matt Jones
Well, that's, you know, Bill Simmons has a league like that. It's like a group of 15 friends or something. 14 people are in the league and each at the end of the year, you vote to kick. The winner gets to kick one person out of the league for the next year. And then they bring the sorry, people have one year suspensions.
Billy R
I like that.
Matt Jones
Do you like that?
Drew Franklin
Oh, yeah, definitely. That'd be. Have fun to kick someone out. Although, you know, being the one kicked out doesn't sound like much fun.
Matt Jones
You get a year off.
Drew Franklin
The punishments are the best part.
Matt Jones
Yeah.
Drew Franklin
The groups that really get into the punishment.
Matt Jones
Well, maybe we could do a league.
Billy R
I'm in two different leagues. I am the commissioner of one league that has a traveling trophy and has been in existence for 20 plus years.
Matt Jones
Really? A traveling trophy?
Billy R
Yeah, it's got names engraved on the side and the team name.
Drew Franklin
So you're doing this without us?
Billy R
Yeah.
Matt Jones
Who do you end this with?
Billy R
My dad, A lot of his friends from back when he. When we started. Some of my friends have joined it since. So it's a lot of people that know each other.
Drew Franklin
I know a group of guys, they're on year 20 something and they're all about it. They do the live draft, the trophy moves around. I'm jealous of people that have that.
Matt Jones
Yeah, because that would be good to have that history. Did you ever watch the show the League?
Billy R
I know of it. I never sat down and watched it.
Matt Jones
It's a very underrated TV show.
Drew Franklin
I think I gave up on it. Not for any reason. Yeah, but first couple of seasons I was all about it.
Matt Jones
It went like nine years and I think I gave up after maybe year five. But it was. It was very funny. Had a good cast. All people you've probably seen before in it.
Drew Franklin
So it sounds like you and me are the only two that don't have this camaraderie that a lot of NFL fans have.
Matt Jones
Maybe we can develop it, but I need to be selective on who we let in because, you know some people.
Billy R
Well, you want people that'll finish the league, like if you're there. I wouldn't let Mario.
Matt Jones
Mario would quit before the draft was over. Mario would never set his team. So we can't have him in it. All right, third question. If you could make one change to the NFL, what would it be? What's one change that you would make to the NFL? I will do one.
Amazon Health AI Announcer
I.
Matt Jones
They've got to change the football.
Drew Franklin
So people.
Matt Jones
So kicking is. People are too good kicking. I don't like that they can kick from 75 yards. I don't like that everyone makes it. One of the good things about college football, you never know if anybody's going to make it. I would find a way to put like Wacky Taffy in the balls or something so that it's not as consistent because I think kicking has become too easy. What about you?
Drew Franklin
This would never, never fly. But I really loved the XFL when they would race for the ball to start the game.
Matt Jones
Well, they Quit that early because the guy tore his acl.
Drew Franklin
We're going the other direction as the kickoff has changed in the last couple of years. But from an excitement standpoint, that was a fun way to start it. So Even though there's a 0% chance of that ever happening, that was a fun twist.
Matt Jones
You would bring back the scrum to get the ball to start the game.
Drew Franklin
I've gotten used to the new format of the last couple seasons and it's fine, but needs a little more excitement.
Matt Jones
You know, in hockey, there's people who are in the league pretty much because they can win the face offs. Like on the Carolina Hurricanes, my team, Jordan Stall, who ended up being the MVP of the Stanley cup finals, he's actually a valuable player because he can win like 75% of the face offs. So they'll bring him in at big possessions, face off, and then he just goes right back to the bench. I wish there was something in sports in the NFL which would encourage people to have that very special skill. Maybe it would be going and scrumming for the ball.
Drew Franklin
That or I really like the overtime in college where you just rotate, you know, shots at the end zone. You know, a lot of people hate on ties in the NFL. It happens once a year maybe, but it would be pretty cool if you're just watching the best offenses, you know, get the ball at the 20 and rotate trying to score.
Matt Jones
I like that one. What about you, Billy?
Billy R
The overtime one was mine. I would like to add in a. An alternate. Alternate to onside kicks. So, like, you have to complete a 4th and 20 or a 4th and 20.
Matt Jones
Let's talk about that.
Billy R
Instead of doing a. You can't do surprise on side kicks anymore, which I think stays.
Matt Jones
Well, that's almost the opposite. I mean, that's the same issue I have with field goals, is that onside kicks don't ever work right. You know, they just don't. So I would. I agree with you. There should be some feature that could work a little bit, you know, and I don't know what that would be. Maybe it's the 4th and 20 or whatever.
Drew Franklin
I'd like to see Taylor Swift more, maybe cut to her more often.
Matt Jones
I don't know why people dislike having her on.
Drew Franklin
That's what I'm saying. Give me more of her. What am I just going to look at a random Chiefs fan? At least it's someone with some name recognition.
Matt Jones
Yeah, I did. I did. You know, we talked a lot early about the wedding. We did. I don't know if we talked about it as much after, but we mentioned. What was the replay guy's name who got involved? The replay official. He got invited.
Drew Franklin
Yeah.
Matt Jones
What's his name?
Billy R
Blandino.
Matt Jones
Dean Blandino. And then Will Compton, who is actually Travis Kelsey's friend, admitted he didn't get Taylor the one.
Drew Franklin
They were upset.
Matt Jones
Yeah.
Drew Franklin
Now the storyline is, why have we not seen a photo? And it's been a month and a half. Like, how long is she gonna sit on these photos?
Matt Jones
But you were just complaining, Billy, that she. Or you were complaining that she was on too much. Now you want more.
Drew Franklin
No, no, I said I want more of her.
Matt Jones
Like you were being serious.
Tony Ayo
Yeah, yeah.
Drew Franklin
Because the people that complain, it's like 10 seconds of your life. Show more of her. I want to see her get.
Matt Jones
You think they need to be in public more?
Drew Franklin
Yeah, but give me a split screen of Taylor Swift in the suite with the game on a smaller box to the left.
Matt Jones
Are you excited for them to have a baby?
Drew Franklin
You know, I haven't thought about it much. Having a baby's fun. A big fan of mine, so maybe. Hope they do. I wish them well. I'm excited to see Travis, what he does this year. Now he's a married man.
Matt Jones
Oh, you think he may settle down?
Drew Franklin
You know, last year didn't go great for him. Is it going to be more of the slide as he probably gets a beer gut?
Matt Jones
You know, some people need to. Need to be wild. They need to be, as John Anderson would say, wild and blue.
Drew Franklin
Now he's gonna be domesticated. You know, he's gonna.
Matt Jones
Yeah.
Drew Franklin
Be cooking for her at night to
Matt Jones
clean up after the cat.
Drew Franklin
She has several. I don't know that. But she seems like someone that would.
Matt Jones
She does seem like.
Drew Franklin
But it is pretty amazing that they had that many people at the wedding and there's not been any kind of
Matt Jones
photo yet that you do have to give them credit for. The fact that nothing, like no pictures leak, you know? Have you seen one picture from inside?
Billy R
No.
Matt Jones
That's pretty. I mean, for a thousand people to come. Did they take their phones?
Drew Franklin
They had NDAs. I know that much. I guess you just don't want to be the one that did it. You know, Brittany Mahomes is just dying every morning, waking up. Can I just. Come on, Patrick. Let me hit send.
Matt Jones
You know, Dean Blandino's like, pp. People don't believe him that he was there.
Drew Franklin
He's like, I swear, I just can't.
Matt Jones
He's like, I promise you, I was there. And they're like, yeah, Yeah, I was married, you know.
Drew Franklin
We'll get a feature link documentary will just drop on it out of nowhere, but it's amazing that there hasn't been any leak whatsoever.

Drew Franklin
I actually have a good one in the NFL. The Titans have turkey legs. They're huge. You just eat it right off the bone. Delicious. Especially a cold.
Matt Jones
Is that like a Flintstone turkey leg?
Drew Franklin
A big old cartoon looking turkey leg. I love those.
Matt Jones
That sounds good.
Amazon Health AI Announcer
Yeah.
Matt Jones
Do you just. You carry it around like that?
Tony Ayo
Yeah.
Drew Franklin
Well, they had them also Music City Ball when we were there in the winter. And I remember there was one that was really cold one year and I've just eaten as many turkey legs as I could because they're just fresh off the. The grill or however they make them.
Matt Jones
Okay, what about you?
Billy R
I was a kid, I went to a Tampa Bay Rays game and I got a helmet full of nachos. And not just like cheese and chips, but like the worst fixings, you know, jalapenos. But they have that cilantro. Every game has tomatoes and, and it was a core memory for me. So maybe it was when I was a kid.
Matt Jones
Every team has nachos, but it was good.
Billy R
It was like, it was bougie nachos. Not just like nachos. Nachos.
Matt Jones
Because it had cheese and jalapenos. You know they have that at every game.
Billy R
Well, there was more toppings than that. Like it was an experience. I still remember it to this day, honestly. Then I dropped it and then they had to make me a second one, so.
Matt Jones
They made you a second one?
Billy R
Yeah, I dropped the whole.
Drew Franklin
The best nachos you can get at a game, this isn't unique to NFL are the walking tacos that are served in the Doritos.
Matt Jones
Well, you're. You're sort of stealing mine. My favorite was at the Iowa State.
Drew Franklin
I think of those often.
Matt Jones
The Iowa State basketball game they gave. They had walking tacos in Ames, Iowa. And I remember, the reason I remember is I bought it and then I got a phone call for somebody wanting me to come on ESPN radio from the, like, lobby, the concourse, and I had this walking taco and I set it down to do the interview and someone stepped on it, not intentionally. And I had to go buy another one.
Drew Franklin
Those are the best, though. I remember those specifically.
Matt Jones
They were so good. Why would you think Iowa State had the best walking taco?
Drew Franklin
I don't know, because I've had them other places and they're good. But there was something in those that were magical.
Matt Jones
And we went twice. We went back a different time and they were still great.
Drew Franklin
I think we tried to go when there wasn't even a game. We're just like, are y' all open for walking tacos?
Matt Jones
I wonder if they still. I wonder if they still do those. Maybe somebody listening is in Iowa and could tell us. Because if they still do those, I'll go back.
Drew Franklin
I almost said that as mine. Iowa State specific instead of the turkey legs. I remember that very well.
Matt Jones
Yeah, they were. Do you like when they have like a hundred dollar food, like, you know, caviar or sushi or things like that?
Drew Franklin
It's gotten too out of hand. I like when you're getting unique with it, but it's almost to the point, like, who really needs that much stuff? Like it'll be a sandwich that just has stuff that doesn't even go together for $75. I feel like they're for Instagram, not for people who are going to be eating it.
Matt Jones
Yeah, one time I went to Chicago Cubs with Dwayne Peavey, the AD at DePaul, and we went and sat in the very bottom. And when you go into their little club, it's like you're like, you can, it's like you can get a massage. Like it's like a nice. Think there's a dance floor.
Drew Franklin
Sounds like a party.
Matt Jones
It really is. I think that's going a little much, but yeah, good question. And then finally, what are the top three rivalries in the NFL that you actually want to see, not just historically, but that you actually want to see? Because, you know, historically they'll say, well, Bears, packers, or they'll say, you know, giants, cowboys, etc. But like today, what are the rivalries you want to see? I mean, like, for me, number one today it's Chiefs, Bills. That's not historic rivalry, but in the last seven years it has been. And I Would still argue when if they play. That's probably the biggest game. Do you agree with.
Drew Franklin
That's a modern one. One that spans as long as you know they've been around. I still get into Cowboys Eagles. One reason is my wife is a Cowboys fan and her brother's an Eagles fan and they're constantly. They're talking year round talking trash. But that's.
Matt Jones
And you would be like I want to see Cowboys.
Drew Franklin
And they. Well the Cowboys haven't really been carrying their side of it lately. But since the Eagles have been so good and the Cowboys in theory are supposed to be good, it's still a marquee game.
Matt Jones
So I was going to say Chiefs Bills I think second is both historic and both teams are still competitive which is Bears, packers. You know if you're talking last 25 years I think you would say Raven Steelers. I don't know if AFC North's got
Drew Franklin
several even Bengals Steelers Bingles haven't been good.
Matt Jones
I don't know if those games though have the same now but Raven Steelers I think probably go for 25 years was maybe most the most consistently good one.
Drew Franklin
When I was younger I was locked into Cowboys Niners but that was died off. That was great for me.
Matt Jones
That was great for many many years. Cowboys Niners was. I mean I think if you're just talking about makes the football world get excited. I would think the last decade has to be Bills and Chiefs. What about you?
Billy R
Yeah, 100% you guys hit. I think the main ones when I think of NFL rivalries I also think player v Player a lot too. Like Manning Brady was a.
Matt Jones
Well that was probably right before Chiefs Bills. Probably the one that had that slot was. Was Colts pats for that for that long period of time. And then finally what is the city in America that does not have an NFL team that you think most should have one
Drew Franklin
go back to Oakland.
Matt Jones
Oh I like that. That's a good one. Although I mean they've left because no one wanted to go to the games.
Drew Franklin
Vegas was pretty attractive for them.
Matt Jones
Yeah, I mean I think that's. I mean what do you think about like Mexico City?
Drew Franklin
Oh you're. You're going international. That's coming.
Matt Jones
Well that's, that's cheating because probably London would be the next one. This. Let's. Let's take that one off. What city in America do you think Most needs an NFL team that doesn't have it? Maybe St. Louis.
Drew Franklin
Yeah, they had one.
Matt Jones
They had one.
Drew Franklin
San Diego had one.
Matt Jones
Still liked it and yet they still left.
Drew Franklin
Yeah, they're good. Texas has too many.
Matt Jones
But Austin, Louisville is the biggest city in America that does not have a professional sports team. Did you know that?
Billy R
I didn't know that.
Matt Jones
I wonder what the biggest city, though, that doesn't have an NFL team is. May. Well, again, not in America, but probably Toronto.
Drew Franklin
They couldn't do it because Houston and Dallas. But Austin has gotten really big and they don't have anything. But they're too close to, they're too close to the others.
Billy R
San Antonio, that's the largest city in the US that does not have an NFL franchise. San Antonio.
Matt Jones
Yeah. Yeah. But you're right. There are teams right there.
Billy R
So I'm going to say St. Louis, San Diego.
Drew Franklin
St. Louis is the answer.
Matt Jones
Yeah, I think that's the answer because they've shown that they, I mean, they've had to go, but they have had two goes at it and lost them both, the Cardinals and the Rams. So. Well, there's your mailbag questions. You enjoyed it and I hope you enjoyed our rundown of the Portland Trailblazers roster, which you will not hear on the NFL. Good morning, football.
Drew Franklin
Did not expect to bring up Yang Hansen today, but here we are.
Matt Jones
Or Dino Roger. All right. So, Billy, you get us back on track here. It is time for the news.
Billy R
Yes, let's start in San Francisco, where the 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan was involved in a serious car wreck last week. Shanahan broke his nose, three ribs, his hand and needed over 40 stitches in his face and suffered a severe concussion in the accident. Assistant head coach Chris Forrester will handle the head coaching responsibilities during training camp, but GM John lynch doesn't think Shanahan's injuries will prevent him from coaching the Sept. 10 regular season opener in Australia versus the Rams. But get well soon. Kyle Shanahan, it must be a bad
Matt Jones
accident if he's out that long. So what do you think about this story? Like, I guess, the media. So the 49ers released the story and then 30 seconds later ESPN and a newspaper in San Francisco had written stories about it, like long ones, which means they knew before. And there are people who are suggesting maybe some media in San Francisco had known for like a week and just didn't say anything. What do you make of that?
Drew Franklin
Yeah, there's a lot of speculation now in this day and age where we learn of stuff within minutes of it happening. How did this go so long without a peep and why they wouldn't have released it because they would have known it seems sure seems like they Knew. So it's just led to the Internet wondering, what, are they covering up something? Why did it take so long when every other time there's been an incident, it's instant?
Matt Jones
I mean, we don't speculate here.
Drew Franklin
We never would.
Matt Jones
But why not just say it?
Billy R
Because the team wouldn't give you information in the future.
Matt Jones
But, I mean, why not? But why didn't they just. Why didn't the 49ers say. I mean. I mean, it was 11 days. I mean, were they worried about. So, I mean, I. I don't. There's not. I don't understand what would have been.
Billy R
Why they would delay.
Matt Jones
Why would you even delay if it was just a car accident? Like, it stinks.
Billy R
But, yeah, I don't know.
Matt Jones
I mean, him being out all of training camp, I feel like that matters, doesn't it?
Drew Franklin
Yeah. And the interim coach, didn't he kind of learn, like, in the moment, they're like, oh, by the way, you're the head coach now.
Matt Jones
Like, oh, he's doing the press conference.
Drew Franklin
No, but he's like, did not anticipate that he would, you know, be bumped into that role and what he'd even be doing, and then suddenly like, all right, this is yours for training camp, and training camp is right here. So even he's kind of taking a
Billy R
back, and he's even said it's a team effort. It's not going to be just me being the head shot.
Matt Jones
So, yeah, that's what everybody says. I mean, he's going to be like, shut up. I'm in charge.
Drew Franklin
You think so?
Matt Jones
Well, so what. What were his injuries?
Amazon Health AI Announcer
Is he.
Drew Franklin
He's like, broken ribs, messed up face,
Billy R
nose, three ribs, broke his hands and needed over 40 stitches in his face and suffered a severe concussion.
Matt Jones
Wow, that's. I hope he's okay. Definitely prayers to Kyle Shanahan. But that's going to have an effect, you would certainly think, on the. On the 49ers. You can't just lose your head guy in training camp and think it's not going to matter.
Drew Franklin
And I know this isn't related to playing on the field, but, I mean, they have. They've had to regroup the last couple years of the depleted roster. Now they're going to a training camp without a head coach. I mean, they're just constantly throwing together whatever they can to try to be successful.

Former Dolphins wide receiver Tyler Tyreek Hill says he still has no power in his recovering left leg in a YouTube video last week.
Matt Jones
Power, no power. What does that mean?
Billy R
I don't think he can push off the ground right now.
Matt Jones
Okay. No.
Drew Franklin
Okay.
Billy R
In a YouTube video last week, Hill discussed his dislocated knee and multiple ligament tears he suffered in Week 4 versus the New York jets last year. Tyreek is 32 years old and said he was told he might never be able to walk again when the injury happened. The Dolphins released the eight time Pro Bowler in February, making him a free agent for the first time in his 10 year NFL career.
Matt Jones
You kind of have to think that maybe he doesn't play again. I mean, you know, if you volunteer that information, especially when you're not signed, it's not. I mean, you have to think it's very unlikely plays again. And it's a shame because at his peak, he was one of the more, you know, amazing guys to watch. Like you just had no idea what was going to happen. You couldn't take your eyes off of him. And that's. You don't hear about injuries like that though, where people can't have any, you know.
Drew Franklin
Yeah, it does feel like the end for a guy who's literally nicknamed the cheetah. That's his superpower is speed. And if he can't get any power, got to wonder if he has anything left to be able to play again. And not being on a roster right now, I mean, somebody have to take a big chance to even sign him.
Matt Jones
Well, you are full of good news today. It has been a rough week. Do you have any. Well, is this just one negative thing after another? You're wearing a Stranger Things shirt, by the way.
Billy R
Oh, yes, the Stranger Things NFL collab Only available at Target for a limited time. I was able to get a shirt and a hat, so I thought I might.
Matt Jones
Well, I want to just know your thought process.
Billy R
Yeah.
Matt Jones
You're saying only available at Target. Like this is a read on the show. Did you.
T-Mobile Advertiser
Yeah.
Drew Franklin
Were you paid for that?
Matt Jones
Did you know that there was a Stranger Things NFL collab at Target?
Billy R
At Target, yes.
Matt Jones
Where did you hear that?
Billy R
It was around Christmas time. So I braved the madness to go find a shirt and a hat.
Matt Jones
So you made a Special trip to get the Stranger Things NFL collab, only
Drew Franklin
available at Target in the madness of
Billy R
Christmas shopping, and was able to.
Matt Jones
Are you a big Stranger Things fan?
Tony Ayo
No.
Billy R
No.
Matt Jones
But you don't even like strangers.
Billy R
No, it's fine. I liked it. I watched it. But I am a proponent of the shield, and the shield is here on. On the front here.
Drew Franklin
I thought they make a lot of shield shirts.
Matt Jones
I mean, like, if they came out with a, I don't know, Dexter collab
Drew Franklin
with the NFL, I'd grab that, too.
Matt Jones
Yeah, you're just for whatever collabs.
Billy R
Well, yeah, I wore the hat. You know, I've got the shield hat
Matt Jones
that I wore Sex in the city,
Amazon Health AI Announcer
too,
Matt Jones
as a collab with the NFL.
Billy R
I'm a company man.
Matt Jones
I will go out, go be like, I'm a Miranda.
Billy R
That's right.
Drew Franklin
How I met your mother. Tom's NFL shirt. You're wearing that.
Billy R
I would.
Matt Jones
Have you even seen Stranger Things?
Commercial Announcer
I have.
Tab Ramos
Yeah.
Billy R
I've seen every season.
Matt Jones
Okay.
Billy R
And it's got 11 on the back of it.
Drew Franklin
That collab is one of the stranger things I've ever seen.
Matt Jones
What's the 11 for the character? Oh, see, I've never seen.
Drew Franklin
Oh, is there a number 11?
Billy R
Yeah, there's a little 11 on the back here.
Drew Franklin
Drew, was this, like. I'm guessing was this because the NFL went to Netflix last year and they're trying to, like, show, you know, so
Matt Jones
you're getting married, and you told me that, like, finances have become tight. Did you ever think that maybe this wasn't something that you. You needed?
Billy R
Well, this was before the major purchases of the wedding took place, so I thought I had a little bit more leeway.
Matt Jones
Okay.
Drew Franklin
There's either another carrot on the ring or the stranger.
Matt Jones
There's a chance if you had just written our guy at the NFL, he could have gotten you.
Billy R
Not the same. Not the same.
Matt Jones
You wanted to actually go out there.
Billy R
People make sure I got my size.
Drew Franklin
Was there, like, a crowd of people around Target for this shirt?
Billy R
Oh, it was crowded. I don't know if it. Like, there was only, like, a couple of hats left. I got the hat.
T-Mobile Advertiser
I haven't.
Matt Jones
I was seeing a woman once who made. Who. Remember when there was like, a year or two that people were losing their minds? Women over the thermoses.
Drew Franklin
Yeah. I feel like it just rotates the brand.
Matt Jones
What was it? What are those called?
Billy R
Stanley.
Matt Jones
She was. She was big on it. And they were having one at Target. I don't know what it was like, the. And she was. She asked Me. She was like, I gotta work. Will you go get it? And I was like, no. Because she said it was like a line. And I was like, I mean, if I can go in Target and buy it, I will. She's like, well, you're gonna have to get there early. And there might be a lot. I was like, no, I just get
Drew Franklin
you a different color.
Matt Jones
Yeah, it's a thermos.
Drew Franklin
They're so trendy. Like, now. There's other brands have pushed Stanley out of the way.
Matt Jones
I remember they did one at Starbucks, and there were seven to eight murders that occurred.
Drew Franklin
I guess drinking, carrying water around, it's big now. When I was in college, I don't think like this.
Matt Jones
It's like the size of a mountain.
Drew Franklin
And, like, it's.
Matt Jones
No one drinks that much water.
Drew Franklin
Yeah, it's like your status on campus is what thermos you're having. Like, I don't think I had an ounce of water the whole time I was in college. And now it's, like, cool to carry
Billy R
water around, calling me out. It feels like that was my generation. I always had a YETI everywhere I went in college. Had to be able to wet my whistle whenever I needed to, I guess.
Matt Jones
Yeah, that certainly made you seem young when you said, wet my whistle.
Billy R
Do you know anybody else with the NFL Stranger Things collab T shirt?
Matt Jones
There are a lot of things I have that I'm like, I don't know anyone else that has that. Well, I'm glad you got it company, man.
Billy R
You should watch it. It's a good show. And watch the NFL on Netflix.
Matt Jones
Nobody wants this collab.
Drew Franklin
Somebody feed Phil.
Billy R
I'll buy it.
Matt Jones
Hawk. Anybody see Hawk? Did that end up.
Drew Franklin
I refuse to, but we love Will Ferrell, and that's why I'm not doing it.
Matt Jones
You worried it's going to make you.
Drew Franklin
I've seen two people I like, so. It was really good, though. Our guy Willie Collinstein loved it. And then Big Cat from Barstool has been tweeting how good it is.
Matt Jones
Yeah, but you don't know. Sometimes those people might have gotten money.
Drew Franklin
I agree. I can't bring myself to do it. I don't even like to scroll past it. I don't want to know it exists.
Matt Jones
Can I give you a show you've probably not seen that I think you specifically Drew would like. I'm not sure everyone would, but Bad Sisters on Apple tv, I'm familiar with it.
Drew Franklin
I haven't committed to it yet. My mom actually recommended it to me.
Matt Jones
It's really good. It's got a very sarcastic British sense of humor. The best show that no one in America has seen that I wish you would watch because I think you would like it is Colin from Accounts on Paramount. Did you ever see Catastrophe on Amazon?
Drew Franklin
I didn't watch it, but I know what you're talking about. I've seen the Calling from Accounts on there too, but I haven't committed.
Matt Jones
Big fan. Sounds like I have one from accounts that to me that's the first one I would do because I think you would love it. It's very well written. Only TV like six episodes a season.
Drew Franklin
Calling from account maybe tonight I'm in. I'm in a spot where I don't have anything to watch.

Let's change up the vibe a little bit. Did you guys see the Buffalo Bills revealed the team's new Nichols City alternate uniforms for the upcoming season. Here, check this out.
Matt Jones
This would have been a good thing to bring up in the uniform discussion. Looks like Boise State.
Billy R
The all gray look and alternate helmet is inspired by the Buffalo nickel and a tribute to the strength.
Matt Jones
What do you mean, the buffalo nickel? That's what they had in the Civil War.
Billy R
That's right.
I
Yeah.
Matt Jones
What makes this like the Civil War?
Billy R
Well, it's all gray.
Matt Jones
They didn't have that color in the Civil War.
Billy R
It's all gray.
Matt Jones
Like a nickel might be, but wasn't gray the Confederacy?
Billy R
I'd have to go check and had to check the history there. I'm not entirely sure.
Matt Jones
I hope not. I like it, but isn't that. That's a. It looks like Boise State, doesn't it?
Drew Franklin
It does. I like it though.
Billy R
Looks good.
Matt Jones
I do like it.
Billy R
A lot of mixed reviews online. I know it's impossible to get everybody to like one thing at a time,
Matt Jones
but why do people not like it?
Billy R
I guess it's just a little different. The helmets. Definitely different than the Buffalo nickels come from Buffalo? Don't know. But I know there's a nickel that has a buffalo on it and maybe that's.
Matt Jones
But there's no buffalo on this.
Billy R
Well, the. The helmet is supposed to signify the.
Drew Franklin
The.
Billy R
The Buffalo.
Matt Jones
This also isn't even nickel color.
Drew Franklin
It's close.
Billy R
Listen, this is the news here. I'm not. I'm not here to tell you.
Matt Jones
You're not trying to defend it.
Drew Franklin
I understand. Excuse me if this is a topic already, but that's not the coolest thing the Bills have revealed this week. Do you have the table entrance on your list? That's incredible.
Billy R
I don't have it on the list, but you go ahead if you know the story.
Drew Franklin
Did you see this?
Matt Jones
I have not.
Drew Franklin
In their brand new stadium they're opening this year, they have an entrance that's a broken table. You walk under it. So it's like a big. Instead of having a big arch.
Matt Jones
That's cool.
Drew Franklin
It's a collapsed table. So they're leaning into Bill's mafia with that one. Looks very cool.
Matt Jones
Cooler than the Buffalo.
Billy R
Structure of the. Okay, well, to each their own room
Matt Jones
and I was expecting more.
Drew Franklin
I like it, though.
Matt Jones
It looks like it literally might be a broken table. So that's their new stadium.
Drew Franklin
Yes.
Matt Jones
Looks nice. Yeah.
Drew Franklin
Nice little addition. A nod to your. To your big fan, your fan base.
Matt Jones
Have they knocked down the old stadium yet?
Drew Franklin
Saw a picture of it. It's mostly down now. It's weird having. We were just there because they got
Matt Jones
to use it, I would think, as a parking lot.
Drew Franklin
Right. Yeah. There's just a bit. Little part of it's still standing.
Matt Jones
Okay, well. Yeah, I like those uniforms. I'll take it. All right. What's left?
Billy R
Yeah, we got two notes on quarterbacks to end the news segment here. Patrick Mahomes has been cleared to fully participate in training camp after surgery to repair his torn ACL and lcl. So watch out. And then the Ravens have waived quarterback Diego Pavia before camp even started.
Matt Jones
I knew it was in trouble when again, I listened to a hockey podcast and this guy was talking about his bachelor party in Nashville. He just dropped this. He was like, yeah, we were at, you know, Morgan Wallen's bar. Diego Pavi got kicked out. It was like two weeks ago. And I thought he on an NFL roster. Well, guess not.
Drew Franklin
I thought he'd make it a little longer, though. I thought he'd get to a little later in the round of cuts.
Matt Jones
Do you think? What is the place for him to play? Like it's his. The. Does the XFL still exist? What is it called now? Xfl? Ufl.
Billy R
The usfl.
Drew Franklin
Usfl.
Billy R
And we have a Louisville that he could come to. And they tried usfl.
Matt Jones
So like I could see Diego in that. Although I think Even that's more serious than he is. Yeah.
Billy R
I don't know. This seems like a disaster waiting to happen with him. It's.
Matt Jones
Where does he rank on the college legends? Never had a shot in the NFL. I mean, he's.
T-Mobile Advertiser
He.
Matt Jones
He could be number one. I mean, Tebow and Manziel at least got a chance.
Drew Franklin
Yeah. Timo at least had some size.
Matt Jones
Pavi won a playoff game.
Drew Franklin
Yeah. Pavi is so short. You just kind of knew it was never going to work out.
Matt Jones
Can you think of anyone who was more successful in college that everyone knew had no chance more than Diego Papi? I mean, if you go way back, those Nebraska quarterbacks, Tommy Frazier and Eric Crouch that ran the option.
Drew Franklin
Yeah.
Matt Jones
You kind of knew they weren't going to.
Drew Franklin
I think Pavi is the answer, though. It's the combination of his off the field behavior and then his size.
Matt Jones
When does time run out for Pavia? Like, when do they start, like, not even letting him in the bars in Nashville.
Drew Franklin
He'll get a good year out of Nashville.
Matt Jones
I mean, there's going to come a point that even in Nashville, people are going to be like, you're more trouble than you're worth. Is that. I think he hits that point. Kick off of the next vanity.
Drew Franklin
He might be working at the bars in Nashville before the NFL playoffs.
Matt Jones
And his brothers.
Drew Franklin
That's.
Matt Jones
There are any band.
Drew Franklin
Yeah, I don't think they're. They have his career in their best interests.
Matt Jones
What a bizarre thing he is because it's not just that he was Diego Pavi. He was also at Vanderbilt. Like, he was at a really good academic school.
Drew Franklin
Worked out perfect where he transferred in with his coach. That a unique system. I mean, he was entertaining, but some of the stuff he was doing just wasn't going to work. When you're going up a level. It was amazing he was able to do in the sec.
Matt Jones
There was an article in New York magazine just last week about Vanderbilt. And the premise of the article was no school in America has seen its academic reputation grow more in the last decade than Mandy. It was basically like what Duke did in the 90s and what Stanford did in the 80s Vandy has done now. And part of me wanted to go, well, except for Diego. Just put that one down to the side. All right. Well, Billy, thank you very much.
Drew Franklin
You're welcome.
Matt Jones
