NFL Cover 0 with Matt Jones and Drew Franklin is a production of the
Drew Franklin
NFL and iHeart podcast Foreign.
Matt Jones
It is day two of NFL Cover Zero here at the super bowl in San Francisco, live on Radio Row. Once again, not live. I always say that, but we are live to tape on Radio Row here in an absolutely packed environment. It's Thursday and Drew Franklin, I'm Matt Jones. Billy R Sports is joining us. We we just got onto this new set they have here where the workaholics were just a few minutes ago. It's kind of exciting, isn't it? Workaholics followed by us.
Billy R
I feel, I feel very unworthy here. But they told us in the email the chairs would be comfy, and they did not disappoint.
Drew Franklin
Yeah, it's been very exciting.
Matt Jones
We just a few minutes ago, ran into Billy's nemesis, which is Kirk, Herb Street's dog. Billy is, like, the only person in the United States that does not like Kirk, Herb Street's dog. He was at the NFL Network set right next to us, and he got his own chair, which for a lot of this trip, Billy has not even gotten his own chair. What did you think about getting to see Kirk Herbstreet's dog right up close?
Guest/Contributor
About as I expected. Just running around without a leash. No, not a care in the world.
Matt Jones
But is that, but that's good, though. A dog is free and out in the public.
Guest/Contributor
I want a little bit more control of that dog. But he got into the chair, and I had to roll my eyes a little bit, guys.
Billy R
Well, I saw Kirk is actually pushing him in, around, around in a wagon now, so he's not on foot. Kurt has, like, a wagon.
Matt Jones
He ran away.
Billy R
Yeah.
Matt Jones
Did you see that? There was Kirk Herp Street's dog. It was a runaway. And I think people were getting very nervous because you do not want to be the person who injures Kirk Herbstream's dog, because I think Billy would have been the number one suspect.
Guest/Contributor
Oh, I definitely probably would have. I love dogs, though. But that thing gets pampered more than I do, so.
Matt Jones
Nice. Nice quarter zip here.
Guest/Contributor
You're going with the brown today.
Matt Jones
The brown reverse gray T shirt under.
Guest/Contributor
Yeah.
Billy R
So we're ready to go.
Matt Jones
I look at. Where'd you get that, by the way?
Guest/Contributor
Johnson and Murphy is where I get the reserve.
Matt Jones
Oh, that's a good, that is a good brand. So you, you brought out the good
Guest/Contributor
Steve Madden shoes, too. I mean, we're lounging today.
Joe Milton
Maybe.
Billy R
So what are you wearing? Segment?
Matt Jones
Hang on just a sec.
Drew Franklin
Steve Madden shoes.
Guest/Contributor
What do you know about that?
Matt Jones
I don't know.
Drew Franklin
A lot.
Matt Jones
Very impressive. So we are just three days away from the Super Bowl. The energy really amps up on Thursday. There are a lot of, there's a lot of parties tonight. I heard the Tight Ends party is tonight. We are not invited to the Tight Ends party. I, I, I saw one of our friends at DraftKings and I was like, she was like, oh, going to the Tight Ends party. And I was like, man, sounds like that'd be fun. I. Who, who wouldn't love to go to the tight ends party? Kind of hoping.
Billy R
Well, let's not give up. In fifth grade I was tight end for the West Broadway Bobcats. I have photo proof. I mostly blocked zero touchdowns, don't remember a catch. But I do have tight end on my resume if I need to bring that to the event tonight to get in.
Matt Jones
Yes. And actually Tony Gonzalez I think was just here a couple minutes ago. One of the best tight ends of all time. If for those of you that listened yesterday we put on the podcast that we would have Sean Alexander. That interview ended up not being able to be on there. He will be. We're gonna play that here to start our day two show. Plus we also are gonna have bussin with the boys. Are you excited to go bus big Titans guy?
Billy R
I'm gonna try not to fan out, but I remember when they started that podcast. I'm one of their first followers. So yes, very excited.
Matt Jones
You were one of the first followers.
Billy R
I remember. I remember when they first even came up with the concept of the bus. So I've been keeping up with them that long.
Matt Jones
Oh, well, don't, don't embarrass me.
Billy R
I won't, I won't. But I am very excited. They seem like great guys. Hope that holds up.
Guest/Contributor
Former Titan too. So I know he love that you
Matt Jones
should, you should tell me about Tony Dungy and how. And how excited he was to meet you. We've talked about most people in this building think you're Jeff Saturday. In fact, that has happened quite a bit. So I was thinking maybe tomorrow you should wear Colts gear and, and essentially make people think you're Jeff Saturday. How many radio shows do you think Drew could get on from across the country acting like he's Jeff Saturday?
Billy R
At first I thought it was just haha funny bit. But then some of the people working with NFL over here, one of them, he called me Jeff Saturday and we thought it was a. He was talking about a reference from earlier. He just came up with that on his own. Like I'm getting it from people that are part of the league thinking I'm just Saturday.
Matt Jones
I'll just tell you how well you're known in the NFL. In the NFL world. If they're calling you Jeff Saturday too.
Guest/Contributor
What do you think it is? I mean, is it the salt and pepper in the beard?
Matt Jones
It's the beard. It's everything. I mean, it's the beard.
Billy R
It's not the muscles. I promise you, it's not the muscles.
Matt Jones
Eyes Jeff Saturday. Lost a bunch of weight when he stopped playing football.
Billy R
I gained weight. We met in the middle. I was like, I'm old.
Matt Jones
240, 250, I think all of those things. And even though he's not, he wears a hat most of the time now. Similar hair as well, Billy. So I. I can see it a
Guest/Contributor
little curly on Jeff. So maybe Drew get some curls. I think you can get on at least one show.
Drew Franklin
As Jeff said, I'm in for the bid.
Billy R
I don't love the idea of wearing Colts gear, but anything for our cover. Zero fun here.
Matt Jones
The Seahawks and Patriots three days away. I've started to see the fans descend here for. For Seahawks and Patriots. I feel like kind of an even split so far, but if you're a Seattle fan, you're a lot closer. Closer. So I wonder if as we get closer, you'll see even more Seattle fans. Because right now, I think in the city walking around, it's about 50. 50.
Billy R
Yeah. They'll get here. The twelves as we. As we know that to be learned.
Matt Jones
We learned about the.
Billy R
I expect good crowds from both. I think Seattle have the edge just because geography. But both passionate fan bases that have been here before and kind of wanting to restart some dynasties this this weekend.
Matt Jones
And a former Patriot, Joe Milton, is also going to be joining the show today. Joe Milton played at Tennessee. I am going to try to throw him off because I am of the opinion that Rocky Top, which Tennessee fans they hold dear, they're like, rocky Top, we love it. I'm going to say that the players all hate it.
Drew Franklin
So I'm going to go ahead and
Matt Jones
give you a little hint of what I'm going to do with Joe Miller. I'm going to ask him to sing Rocky Top and we will see if he'll be able to do it.
Billy R
Okay. He was only, you know, he started at Michigan. He wasn't there very long. He's kind of like a. One of the portal guys, the bounce.
Matt Jones
But he was there for what, a year? He was here. He had a heck of it. I would say Joe Milton's got one of the strongest arms, maybe in all of football. I think he can throw it like over the. He's got a cannon.
Guest/Contributor
But I'd say most athletes know their fight song before the transfer portal era nowadays. I mean, you're going from school to school, you probably don't learn it as much.
Matt Jones
I don't think so.
Guest/Contributor
Oh, I think so.
Matt Jones
Okay.
Drew Franklin
Do you know.
Matt Jones
I mean, we're Kentucky fans. Do you know? Well, when you went To Western.
Guest/Contributor
Yeah.
Matt Jones
Kentucky. Do you know the Western?
Drew Franklin
Kentucky.
Guest/Contributor
Stand up and cheer for dear old Western for today we raise the red and white above the rest. Rah, rah, rah.
Matt Jones
Well, that's pretty good. All right, so I didn't even go
Billy R
there and I knew it.
Matt Jones
Oh, well, I did not. Uh, and then we're also going to finish with Bryce Young. I'm excited to see Bryce Young's height vis a vis us because everybody always talks about him being a short quarterback, but I wonder if that's actually true
Billy R
in person that I want to see that. And we kind of unintentionally became Panthers supporters throughout the year. Honestly, if there were a team we talked about the most, you know, I'd
Drew Franklin
say there is an argument.
Matt Jones
I think there's an. If you had bet in the preseason NFL Cover zero Season one, what is going to be the team they talk about the most? I think you would have gotten pretty good money on the Panthers because I think we did talk more Panthers than almost anything else.
Billy R
Podcast Mike. They're turning it around. They came up so much. It'll be good to have Bryce's to put a little cherry on top of the season here at Super Bowl.
Matt Jones
And then. So we're going to have all of those folks, and then we'll. We will check in after that. Some of these interviews, there's been spaced out over a period of time, so there'll be. There'll be little gaps. Do you have a lean right now that on. On the actual Super Bowl?
Billy R
I. I think the Seahawks are going to get it done, but if you want to talk about the four and a half points, I worry my.
Matt Jones
Has it moved?
Drew Franklin
Has it moved?
Matt Jones
I wondered if it. Maybe it was going to go up to five and a half or even six. Has not moved.
Billy R
Patriots need to get the run going a little bit. I think we're going to have a close game, but I just think Seattle's too balanced. I mean, that defense is great. Then of course, the offense. We know about them with Jackson, Smith and Jigba, I. I think they get it done, but I don't think we're going to have any kind of blowout. I think Patriots are going to be in it.
Matt Jones
What do you make of Tom Brady, the owner of the Raiders, saying he has no preference in the super bowl even though he played for the Patriots and won. Played an 8 and 1 6. First of all, do you believe him? And. And secondly, if we take him at face value, is that okay to have no preference in the Super Bowl?
Billy R
This would crush me as a Boston fan. Like, my goat. My idol is sitting there basically saying he doesn't care about me.
Matt Jones
It is a little bit like, okay, yes, we had good memories, but I'm. Now I've met a new person in Vegas, and she has caught my eye, and I'm going to act like I don't care.
Billy R
I mean, there was.
Matt Jones
So, first of all, let's start with that.
Guest/Contributor
Do you.
Drew Franklin
Do you.
Matt Jones
Do you believe.
Billy R
I do believe him.
Matt Jones
I mean, you do believe that he doesn't care.
Billy R
It's all out there about a little falling out with Bill. Doesn't have much relationship with Kraft. I mean, sure, he's friends with Gronk and those guys, but I kind of believe him. I kind of take him on what he's saying here, which would break my heart if I was a Pats fan.
Guest/Contributor
No, that's the political answer he's giving as a broadcaster and a part owner now. He won six Super Bowls there. Of course he wants the Patriots.
Matt Jones
So you think he wins. So you think he. He's doing it because he believes that broadcasters shouldn't.
Guest/Contributor
Correct. You can't be rooting for teams, especially as a broadcaster. Yeah. Or a part of.
Matt Jones
No, NBC's calling this one, so he doesn't have to call.
Guest/Contributor
Correct. So I. I just. I think that's crazy. It's like politicians talking.
Matt Jones
Okay, so let's. Let's, though, give him the benefit of doubt, and let's say that he does. Doesn't care who wins. You're a Patriots fan. How much does that stab you in the soul?
Billy R
Let's. Let's use an example of your own life. Think of your favorite team. Think of your favorite player that you grew up watching. Okay. They probably had a lot of success. And then imagine one day you're like, yeah, I don't really care either way if they're any good. I mean, that would suck.
Matt Jones
It would. I've invested. Fans invest so much into you, and
Billy R
you can't even be like, yeah, I hope they win a Super bowl over Seattle.
Matt Jones
I. I was just over there a minute ago, and I saw Donovan nab. And he said, fly, eagle, fly to just some random person. And I think that's what people want. They want to think that Donovan McNabb is walking around telling strangers, fly, eagle, fly. They don't want to think that. They say, who's playing? Philadelphia. Who?
Billy R
We talked about it yesterday with Stevie Johnson just coming in, rocking Bill's gear,
Matt Jones
and he talks Bills.
Billy R
All of that camaraderie with Their former players. And Tom had a moment there. It would. I know he's a broadcaster, whatever. If he had said he's leaning New England because his memories there, no one would have had a problem with that. And he didn't do it.
Matt Jones
He did not do it. Now let's talk about the most famous person I've seen here on press row, who ended up having the biggest crowd. I'm going to rank for you from five to one, the people that people have seen the most excited to see. Okay, who has drawn the biggest crowd? Are we ready for the Matt Jones top five people to draw crowds at Meteoro?
Guest/Contributor
Big names coming up.
Matt Jones
Okay, here we go. Number five, Shannon Sharp. Shannon Sharp is actually towards the front. He is Shay Shay, as they say. And he has been up there. He's actually positioned kind of in a tough spot for them because it's like when you walk in and so it feels like Shannon Sharp, he has a lot of people that they tend to watch and then leave. Not obsessive. But Shannon Sharp does draw quite. Quite a.
Billy R
And they got a. A, A bump. The Mario bump. Because when we walked in, Mario just mowed over everyone in TV sets to get to the club.
Drew Franklin
Sh.
Matt Jones
Shay set.
Drew Franklin
He was very excited about that.
Matt Jones
Are we ready for number four? Number four, I'm going to say K. Adams. Kay Adams had quite a crowd as she was taping her show. A lot of people, I think if you're not in this, you know, it's easy because I think there's on the FanDuel network to not see her. But she has a massive following. And as she walked like little puppy dogs, people were walking with.
Guest/Contributor
Funny enough, Mario was knocking down people yesterday trying to see Kay and get a closer look.
Drew Franklin
Yes.
Matt Jones
So that's. That one's on there now. Number three, I'm gonna say Pat McAfee. Ton of people crowding around his set during the break. Everyone trying to wave at him because he actually will wave back. I've learned maybe it's good in life just to occasionally wave back because it makes people excited. So Pat McAfee is at number three.
Billy R
They've done a good job of being taller than the others. So, like, I know exactly where the Pat McAfee said is when I walk in. It's good PR on their part. I mean, you can see it from across the building here. All the others kind of level, a little hidden. They've kind of commanded a big stage over there.
Drew Franklin
I'm going to do two.
Matt Jones
A tie.
Guest/Contributor
Okay.
Matt Jones
A tie between Martha Stewart and Stephen A. Smith. Two people that would have a good show together if they ever put Martha Stewart. Martha Stewart. Every woman in here is just like Martha Stewart. You're slaying.
Billy R
Slaying.
Drew Franklin
Okay.
Matt Jones
Yes, she looks. First of all, how old is Martha Stewart? I'm gonna say, honestly, you could tell me any age, because first of all, she looks no older than, like, 55.
Billy R
I'm gonna say 75, Bob.
Matt Jones
But she looks amazing. So all. So everywhere, when I've seen her in two or three different places and people all say the same thing, oh, my goodness, she looks amazing. How old is she? And people guess like 88. And I don't know if she is or not. And to still be able to look like that, you've got to give her credit. She's 44. 84. 44. She was 40.
Drew Franklin
44.
Matt Jones
She's younger than me.
Drew Franklin
She's.
Matt Jones
She's 84 years old.
Billy R
Martha.
Matt Jones
Let me just say slay girl.
Sponsor/Ad Voice 2
Yes.
Billy R
I would hit the flame emoji right
Drew Franklin
now if I could.
Matt Jones
Did you see that picture I saw? I mean, she looks better now than she did when she had the. What was the TV show? The Martha. Martha's Martha Stewart stuff for people.
Guest/Contributor
Home goods or something.
Matt Jones
Yeah, Martha's home goods.
Billy R
So I have to come compliment her. You know, sports media, a lot of quarter zips, former athletes, a lot of athletic work. There's like an elegance where she's walking around.
Drew Franklin
Yes.
Billy R
She's bringing a presence that we don't have from anyone else here.
Matt Jones
But the number one by far most popular person here at Super Bowl Media Row, Radio Row, and it is not close, is the Crocodile Hunter's kid. What's his name?
Erin Andrews
The.
Guest/Contributor
Robert.
Billy R
Robert Irwin.
Matt Jones
Robert.
Drew Franklin
Robert Irwin.
Matt Jones
He is. First of all, I think he's like 22 years old now. He's also helped that he's walking around with a snake around his neck. Okay, so that's. So it's a combination. Maybe a tie with Steve Irwin.
Drew Franklin
Steve Irwin.
Guest/Contributor
Robert.
Billy R
Steve's dad.
Matt Jones
Steve was his dad and the snake. But again, women who knew did. So does he D. When did he get famous and how.
Guest/Contributor
Well, he's a heartthrob, and I think he's at, like, the Australia Zoo doing shows, you know, following in his dad's legacy.
Matt Jones
But why is he famous? How do you.
Billy R
Dancing with Star with the Stars too.
Guest/Contributor
That too.
Matt Jones
Oh, he was on. Did he win?
Billy R
He was in the running. I didn't keep it. No spoilers.
Drew Franklin
If you know he won.
Billy R
Look at that.
Matt Jones
First of all, how do you know
Billy R
Vince as you say, Vince did not touch his computer.
Drew Franklin
Vince did you just.
Matt Jones
Vince, I've never seen you when you weren't talking to me about technology. You also do Dancing with the Stars. I didn't realize that. But he has been without question the person that people seem to be the most excited about.
Billy R
I could even tell you, even my wife, she like sends me Robert Irwin clips. He has this brand. I'm not, I guess not in that algorithm. But he is so popular and it's not just from the dancing.
Matt Jones
I had no clue, Billy. I had no clue that Steve Irwin was as big as Rob. Sorry, R.P.
Billy R
steve.
Matt Jones
Robert Irwin was as big as he is.
Guest/Contributor
I think we all loved Steve and the way that he passed away was so tragic. So for Robert to follow in his footsteps, it's just, it seems right. And we need somebody jumping around and knocking crocodiles on their nose.
Matt Jones
So that is your official super bowl media row entertainment celebrity factor.
Billy R
I saw Robert. He's, you know, doing the tour like many people are. But when he's at every station, the hosts are putting on the snake. They're wearing the snake or holding, I guess you would say, not wearing.
Matt Jones
Well, is he coming out here?
Billy R
Well, if he were in Billy's chair right now and offered. Matt, would you like to wrap the snake around your arm? Are you doing it?
Matt Jones
If, if people make me, but I'm not going to like it. And I, I hear they can smell fear.
Billy R
That's true.
Matt Jones
Is that right?
Billy R
So you think. Think it latch on to you pretty quickly?
Matt Jones
Yeah, I think I feel like though someone would save me. Maybe the Bella twins who just walked by a few minutes ago maybe. Is that Joey Wagner?
Drew Franklin
Yes, it is.
Matt Jones
Anyway, the. The point being I thought yeah, I would do it.
Billy R
My college roommate had a snake. Its name was the Spanish word for death, which is already intimidating himself.
Drew Franklin
Mayday.
Matt Jones
Yeah, there you go.
Billy R
That was the name Marday. And about once a month we get.
Matt Jones
How did I remember that Spanish since high school. How admiral the world did I get that?
Billy R
Anyway, go ahead a couple weeks there just be a group text like hey guys, can't find the snake. Just be careful around the house. That's a little unsettling. That is when Mereday is just on the loose.
Matt Jones
Well, we've really enjoyed. We really enjoy it here. We still got one more day tomorrow, but today lots of interviews. We're going to get started here in just a minute. We will bring on, we'll play the interview from yesterday with Sean Alexander and then we're going to go bussing with the boys here on Meteorite bro.

All right, I got to tell you, of all the interviews we're going to do, this is what I'm most excited about. They got four Kentucky boys sitting at the same table in the house and Sean Alexander is here. Bluegrass State here. Sean, what's going on, man?
Sean Alexander
It's good to see the Kentucky family representing the NFL up in this thing.
Drew Franklin
That's exactly right. Now, Sean, I'm going to say we're going to start. I'm going to say a name that you haven't heard in years. Okay, this is how I first learned Sean Alexander. I went to Middlesborough High School. I was a junior in high school. We had a great football team. Our running back was a guy named Eric Erke Witherspoon from Middlesborough High School, who was fighting with you for the lead in rushing in the state. You passed him at the end. He came in second rushing to you in high school. Eric. I saw him recently, still says, oh, Shawn Alexander just got me. That was big time when you played at Boone County.
Sean Alexander
Man, Boone county was a lot of fun. Actually, I was just talking to some of my linemen before I got on a plane to fly out here and they were like, oh man, you know it's so cool. Every time you do that, you're representing all of us, and then I'm here at the stage with you guys. This is great.
Drew Franklin
Yes. Do you. You went to Alabama now? I don't want. I mean, see this hat right here? Like. Well, I mean, I know it was Alabama, but did you even consider and become part of the Big Blue?
Sean Alexander
Honestly, Kentucky, they just didn't recruit me hard.
Matt Jones
Oh, stop it.
Sean Alexander
I'm telling you.
Drew Franklin
Is that Bill Curry?
Sean Alexander
Yeah, Bill Curry. And, and I went to the Kentucky Louisville game. I'm excited. My mom went to Kentucky. I'm like, oh, this is going to be easy. They're like, hey, there's a quarterback that's in there. Tim Couchee is going to come here. I knew Craig Yeast. I was like, oh, wait a minute. I was like, you.
Drew Franklin
You knew Couch and Yeast?
Sean Alexander
I knew all of this. Oh, my God. And then all of a sudden, I'm like, Bama showing up there at the school. Notre Dame's at the school, Michigan's at the school. And, like, looking around, I was like, hey, mom, have you heard anything from Kentucky that's kind of weird.
Drew Franklin
They don't call anymore Inexcusable. I mean, Bill Curry. I, I wasn't.
Matt Jones
I'm.
Sean Alexander
I thought they had another running back. They probably had another running back somewhere.
Drew Franklin
Yeah, we, we, we could have found
Matt Jones
room for you,
Drew Franklin
Sean, but you went to Alabama, then to the Seahawks. How exciting is this to have your guys in the Super Bowl?
Sean Alexander
It, it's super exciting. You know, watching how Seattle is this team reminds me a lot of my team in 05 where, you know, Sam Donald does some things that are really well. Like, just like we had Hasselback, you know, like, you know, Hasselback wasn't like Peyton Manning or Tom Brady, but he was like a solid, good quarterback. And Sam had to go through all the ups and downs. Matt's was ups and downs. Wasn't as bad because he went from Green Bay to us, but, but just solid quarterback. But the defense is so similar. Just relentless. They go after it. You don't even know who anybody really is. But at the same time, you know they're going to knock you around. And so this, this is a great. You know, I love K9. He does stuff that I do really, really well. You know, getting in, in holes, breaking tackles, very big in the red zone. So this team looks really, really good.
Billy R
Since we mentioned we're Kentucky guys, you know, we're pretty proud of our fan base, Big Blue Nation. But we hear about the 12th man out in Seattle. We've never experienced it firsthand, but it's twelf, man, twelfth man. Anytime we're watching the broadcast.
Drew Franklin
Are they as, as crazy?
Matt Jones
Is that real?
Drew Franklin
I think it's overrated.
Billy R
Is it good marketing or they actually agree?
Sean Alexander
I think you'll see Sunday, okay, I think that there is one super bowl where we just didn't know how to do it. It was mine. And after that they were just like, no, we'll never have another super bowl where you won't see the 12th man show up. And the thing was, is tickets and this and that. We just didn't know, you know, it was new for all of us. So we got in there, we played. We played in Detroit, which was Jerome Bettis backyard, you know what I mean? Against the Steelers, who. And it felt like a road game in our Super Bowl. Now you saw the New York, you saw the one we played against the Patriots last time. We've brought our twelves with us and they're here.
Drew Franklin
Everybody always focuses on the guys that play. But you had to be a part of like, just run the damn ball. Give it to Marsh like that. Were you going crazy?
Sean Alexander
It was wild. It was wild. I think sometimes coaches try to get situational. There's a timeout. You got, you're trying to get three plays out of, out of, out of, out of the remaining seconds and you're like, okay, do I run it? Call timeout, Pass, pass. Or do I. Or pass and then run or do I throw it and then the clock stops and then it's run, timeout, run. You know? So like sometimes you say, but when you're on the one yard line, run the damn ball. Yeah, just you run, you call timeout. You know what I mean? That didn't work. And so like, I feel like that was just. It didn't ever stay caught up in the moment, you know? What I loved was, was, you know, I was in the locker room with him and Pete just came here full own. Hey, y', all, I made the call. This is on me. I hate that I put y' all in this situation, you know, And I, I love coaches like that.
Billy R
When you're having like a record setting
Drew Franklin
year, your MVP year. Do, do running backs get in a
Billy R
zone where it's like you're in the backfield, you're thinking, it doesn't matter who's
Drew Franklin
over there, what we're doing.
Billy R
I'm getting my yards today.
Sean Alexander
Yep, whatever you want. Piano. It's all going to work. You know, I, I remember that year it was so cool because every play felt right. You know, we had just a great rhythm with our line. I had the best fullback in the game. Max Strong. Great fullback name. And so.
Drew Franklin
Max Strong is a great fullback.
Sean Alexander
Yeah, it's a great fullback name. And he was.
Drew Franklin
We know somebody named Max Strong. Yeah. He was a punter, though. Not quite the same thing. Yeah. Do you.
Sean Alexander
Yeah, yeah. Richard Sherman.
Drew Franklin
Yeah.
Billy R
He didn't say hi to me.
Drew Franklin
Hello, Richard Sherman. Yeah, he just. He didn't. I guess he doesn't want to talk to us.
Sponsor/Ad Voice 4
Yeah.
Drew Franklin
Do you. I was asking Terrell Davis this earlier. Football's changed even since you played.
Sean Alexander
Yeah.
Drew Franklin
Do you think there's still a place for dudes that ran like you, that sort of hard running back in today's game?
Sean Alexander
I think there is. And I think that instead of it being like a whole season, I think it's more like situational. And so, like, unfortunately, you know, Seattle had two running backs. You got K9, you got Chauvin, you know, and so they always did the one, two thing. And now Shaub's hurt. So now you're going to have Kenneth being really the guy. And I think, like, you're going to watch this game, you're going to be like, ooh, this hundred yards and two touchdowns. Is this what it have been like if you'd have carried the ball every play, but they just don't do it no more? But I feel like this situation is going to fold for itself, to be like that, because there's no way they're going to let Jackson Smith go run and run every route that he wants all over the field, because he can play outside, inside. So you got to put a safety over top of him. And which now leaves it for a running back to go do it while
Drew Franklin
their fan base, Alabama, Seattle, Boone, Cabin.
Sean Alexander
I tell you what, I was loved at all three of those places because they believe. You know, at Boone county, there was 10,000 people in that little town of Florence, we'd have 11,000 that we gave.
Drew Franklin
Yeah.
Sean Alexander
So people would be like, hey, look, if you're gonna rob the bank, they leave a note. If you're gonna rob all the money out the bank, leave us a message. If you're gonna just borrow, just bring it back later on, like, so hometown was great. I don't think that there's anything more special than Alabama. I remember my sophomore year, a lady came up to me, Sean Alexander. I'm 81 years old, and if y' all beat Auburn, I'll die a happy woman. I was like, ma', Am, I'm 19.
Drew Franklin
Don't put that on me. That's the only one I lost. Oh, you lost that one?
Guest/Contributor
Oh, no.
Drew Franklin
I was 3 and 1 against Auburn. I was like, oh, gosh, did she die? I never saw her again.
Sean Alexander
Feels terrible about that, Sean.
Drew Franklin
Man, that's wild, ain't it?
Matt Jones
It's a lot of pressure.
Drew Franklin
That is a lot of pressure for
Sean Alexander
a 19 year old. Come on.
Drew Franklin
But like, I mean, we see those Alabama fans, Paul Fine, Bob Mule, like, did you ever have any of those moments in Tuscaloosa?
Sean Alexander
You know what? Didn't you get the goods and the bads? You know what I mean? So, you know, I had a great start as a freshman and it just kind of kept rolling. And so I would get all the love. There's no one greater than Sean elsewhere. I'll tell you a funny story. A lady and a couple came up to us and they were like, oh, my God. Took the picture with Sean Alexander. And one of my friends knew the couple, I didn't know them at all. Sends a text and says, man, you're still loved at Alabama. The lady said, man, if you think I should shoot my shot at Sean Alexander. And the husband said to her, well, if he says to go, you should go. There's not. There's not a greater man that ever
Drew Franklin
played Alabama than Sean Alexander. I'm like, what's wrong with this place? Wait a minute. So this man was offering you his wife?
Sean Alexander
Oh, yeah.
Drew Franklin
As a reward. You know what he says? What?
Sean Alexander
Roll Tide.
Drew Franklin
Oh, no. Wow. Goodness, Sean. Gonna Roll Tide. That's a different phrase of Roll Tide than I'm used to. We actually know somebody that did that with Kentucky too, but I'm not gonna say who, allegedly. Sean, let me ask you one thing. How cool was it to be a cover athlete on Madden?
Guest/Contributor
And were you hesitant at all to accept that?
Drew Franklin
Hon.
Sean Alexander
Oh, no, not at all. Not at all. I think that everybody would want to be on the COVID of it. I mean, still, today I get to go do all the greatest things. And I'm part of the. What EA Sports calls the trinity. You know, it's only three of us that were on the COVID of both college and pro.
Drew Franklin
Who are the other two?
Sean Alexander
What I would say is the second one was Larry Fitzgerald.
Drew Franklin
Okay.
Sean Alexander
The third one was because they did a throwback.
Drew Franklin
I don't count. That's just you and Larry.
Sean Alexander
It was Barry Sanders.
Drew Franklin
Well, he's pretty good.
Sean Alexander
I'm gonna add him, man.
Drew Franklin
He's pretty good.
Sean Alexander
So they say Love was there, so it was really, really cool. And, and also I just think that the Madden cover is kind of like. It just kind of doesn't make sense for football. There's what, 32 running backs, 32 quarterbacks, 64 guys, 50 are going to miss at least one game every year. So is it really a curse or just football?
Drew Franklin
You know, listen, that, that's a, that's, that's as big as the hall of Fame. Yeah. Now, Billy was saying earlier today, he was like, you know what I think? I think people should stand apart. And I was like, sean Alexander doesn't agree with that. He thinks people should stand together.
Sean Alexander
That's right. I like that. I like that. Stand together. I've been ambassador for them for the last six years. It's about 900, some of the most successful businessmen, women, philanthropic leaders in the country. They put their time, talents, treasures together to tackle some of the country's biggest issues. As the ambassador, I get to play the role of building the perfect tripod. So there's people that do great work, foundations, community leaders. There's people that can fund it.
Drew Franklin
You're right.
Sean Alexander
There's some of those people in the Stand Together family that do really, really well with their businesses. And then there's the people that get to influence it. So I get to bring some of my NFL buddies some of the, you know, it used to be like, brother Sean. Now it's like, Uncle Sean. I don't even know how I feel about that right now, man. It's happening.
Drew Franklin
He's an uncle.
Sean Alexander
Oh, man. And so now I'm getting a. Bring some of these guys in today. Some of the legends from the old and saying, hey, what do you believe in? We believe in people. We believe in people in this country. How can we go help benefit them? And we go from juvenile justice kids in the juvie system and putting them in different programs to families that just can't make it, that are impoverished situations, to education, to business for good. How can we put a business into this community and not watch that community thrive because of it? And with jobs or even just food or whatever. And so it's been a lot of fun watching them. And we just kind of have the same philosophy. We believe in people. We believe everybody's got a genius in them. So we got to figure out how to put you in the right seat on the bus. And the fact that, that no one's a throwaway, right, no matter what mistake you've ever made, that there's something in you that could go benefit somebody else.
Drew Franklin
I like that. Well, now that you told that rolls Todd story, they're never going to put four Kentucky people on the set. This is the one. Why get a picture. This is the one. Never going to do it again. Thank you Sean.
Sean Alexander
Hey. Go Big Blue.
Drew Franklin
Go Big Blue.
Taylor Lewan
Row Tide.
Bryce Young
Yeah.
Sean Alexander
Roll Tide. Go Seahawks.

All right, you guys don't know us, but I feel like we know you. It's busing with the boys. Taylor, Juan, Will Compton, we'll start with we're big. Pardon my take. We've been friends with them for 15 years.
Will Compton
The boys.
Drew Franklin
Yes. We host Kentucky Sports Radio. They host us every year. They host our show and they are awesome and big Titans fan right here.
Billy R
I told him. I've been busting with these guys. They don't know me, but I've been
Drew Franklin
busing since day one feeling like it
Taylor Lewan
said the right words.
Billy R
Tighten up.
Taylor Lewan
Yes.
Drew Franklin
Now, there's one other thing.
Taylor Lewan
Can I just say one thing?
Drew Franklin
Yes.
Taylor Lewan
After everything Nebraska has been through for you to wear.
Drew Franklin
That's what I was going to say for you to wear that hat in
Taylor Lewan
front of my boy.
Drew Franklin
Tweet that Will Compton may have seen. Which was I host Kentucky Sports Radio and when we took a certain quarterback that Nebraska wanted, you tweeted about it. I might have tweeted coping with the
Matt Jones
boys
Drew Franklin
when you sent that tweet. And I. So I have to apologize. Kind of. But also kind of liked it because we never take anything from Nebraska.
Taylor Lewan
I'll say this.
Will Compton
I saw his. Like, I didn't. I saw his Kentucky hat. But it's not like anger doesn't come to my head.
Drew Franklin
Yes.
Will Compton
So I.
Drew Franklin
Opportunities.
Will Compton
It's the optics going on with these agents and these kids that really just piss me off, buddy.
Taylor Lewan
But, hey, that UNLV kid. Castellanos.
Will Compton
Yeah, Calandria.
Taylor Lewan
Calandria Castellanos. Dude, I love that kid.
Drew Franklin
So I've been, like, feuding publicly with Nebraska fans for 20 years, but when I was a kid, Nebraska was Nebraska. How do we get it? How do you get. You took our God Dane Key, though. That's our buddy. Our. Our go host is his godfather.
Billy R
We've known him since he was a child.
Drew Franklin
He was a little kid Dane Key. So, like, we. We've been watching you guys for a while. How do you get it back?
Will Compton
You gotta win.
Taylor Lewan
Bo Pellini. Yeah.
Drew Franklin
You're a big Mark Stoops fan.
Sean Alexander
Yeah.
Will Compton
You gotta win. Dude, if I had the formula, I'd be wearing a whistle around my neck instead of being behind a microphone. But you gotta win. You gotta get better. Every year we kind of. We went, what, seven and five this year, one game better.
Joe Milton
Yep.
Drew Franklin
It.
Will Compton
You know, it's an uphill battle, but we will be national champs again.
Drew Franklin
I love it.
Sean Alexander
I love it.
Taylor Lewan
I know I'm not a Nebraska guy. I just think that there's been some harsh criticisms on Matt Rule. And if you remember where you guys were before Matt Rule came in, like, there was not a bowl game until 2015. And this schedule. Nebraska's got it. Michigan's got it. Is an absolute juggernaut this year. So patience. Patience. He's getting. The ship is being written right now.
Will Compton
The problem is it start. It's over a decade of patience. However, there's been some bad decision making up until coach Rule got there. But yeah, I mean, we.
Matt Jones
We.
Will Compton
What the. What we have to celebrate is we went to two bowl games back to back. But that again, when you're saying Nebraska back when we were younger. Yeah, we got. We got a road. We got a road ahead of us. The obstacle is the way.
Billy R
Well, we'll talk a little super bowl here. But first, I just want to make sure we get it home.
Drew Franklin
Power. Power ice. What's the situation still?
Will Compton
What day?
Drew Franklin
11.
Sponsor/Ad Voice 2
Now.
Drew Franklin
You basically put the city on your back trying to try to there's definitely
Taylor Lewan
a credit that needs to be given to any workers. Boots on the ground that are working tirelessly 24 7, 365 to give power back. Now that we've covered that basis, the people, the. The umbrella who are pulling the strings into the city of Nashville.
Drew Franklin
No, it's not Danny. Oh, my former co host right there. Yes. All right, Dan. What's up?
Will Compton
Hey, those short shorts and the way the legs look.
Drew Franklin
Hey, the legs do look.
Will Compton
You're just way too long to be wearing shorts that short.
Sean Alexander
Why?
Drew Franklin
What do you mean why?
Taylor Lewan
Don't let them take things away from you.
Will Compton
You wear whatever you want.
Drew Franklin
Is mad. You got these stumps.
Will Compton
Oh, buddy. These legs. I've lost some massive feel like these legs.
Bryce Young
I was gonna come over.
Billy R
You guys must be the most popular people I saw.
Drew Franklin
You got the big Derek hug over here. You all can't walk anywhere, dude.
Taylor Lewan
Derek's a ma'.
Sponsor/Ad Voice 3
Am.
Taylor Lewan
By the way, Derek looks massive, dude. Straps are popping out of his sweater like crazy. Derk Henry.
Will Compton
Did you see the specimen of Derrick Henry? Still incredible.
Drew Franklin
It's good.
Bryce Young
We going to hang out? We're going to link up.
Will Compton
I would love to hang out. Are we doing anything?
Drew Franklin
I got a flex the whole time.
Will Compton
You going to do that? Are we doing anything this week or we just as that.
Drew Franklin
It was last week.
Matt Jones
It.
Will Compton
I haven't heard from you since our show.
Drew Franklin
I like this drawer. You want a phone? That's. That was my first radio co host right there. Dan. Danny O. Dan's first job at ESPN was co hosting a show with me.
Will Compton
Did you know it? In that first year, you're like, this dude's going to be a star.
Taylor Lewan
Dan's not that good of a guy.
Drew Franklin
Very first time, the very first show he was in, you can tell him I said this. First show I walk in, he's in a closet. Before our very first radio show, panicking and shaking. He's so nervous because it was his first day at espn and I was like, dude, I don't know football. You don't know radio. We got this. And by about week five, I knew he was going to be a star. We said we. We were like, we'll never see him again. And after one year, he was tv and that was that.
Will Compton
When he comes on the bus, that'll be a great starting point.
Drew Franklin
You need to start with that. He was literally going over the notes. Week one of the NFL season, he's shaking. And I'm shaking because I've never been on espn. He's never been on the radio. I've never been on espn. We start. But by week five, I was like, that dude's going to be a star. You could just tell.
Will Compton
Yeah, he is the man, bro. I love some Daniel.
Drew Franklin
So let's talk about the game. What do you think is going to happen on Sunday?
Taylor Lewan
I mean, there's multiple different avenues you can go down, right? I mean, the Seattle Seahawks are probably the most complete best team in the entire NFL, and they have been for most of the year. Sam Donald has that gets that monkey off his back of. He's great in the regular season. His last couple of games fizzled out at the Vikings. He's no longer a bus. He's a top 10 quarterback. But then you get the New England Patriots have overachieved all year long. We went to their. Their camp and looked at their roster. We're like, yeah, they'll get some culture wins. But other than that, this is not going to be a team that is, you know, going to make the playoffs or they're fighting for second, as Will likes to say.
Will Compton
Yeah, it's the Seattle Seahawks. Different. It's a different animal than they've seen all year. Seahawks are going to win.
Drew Franklin
It's going to be close.
Will Compton
They got a fighting chance. They got a fighting chance, but I got it. What do we see here? 20, 28, 28, 19.
Taylor Lewan
That's a lot. That's a lot of points.
Billy R
It's a lot of points.
Taylor Lewan
I see this. This has 2001 Patriots, 2007 Giants Bay Underdogs.
Will Compton
Yeah.
Taylor Lewan
He's gonna be some crazy stuff that takes place, but I'm gonna believe I'm gonna be biased towards Mike Vrabel. I'm taking the Patriots, and I like them. 31, 28, Mike Vra.
Will Compton
A lot of.
Drew Franklin
How did his. How did your Titans. I am hurting, buddy.
Taylor Lewan
That is the most fumbled bag of all time.
Will Compton
Here's what. Here's what I want to ask since you're. Yeah. Big Oilers right here. Steve McNair. How has it been watching Variable get this.
Billy R
Killing me.
Will Compton
It's killing me every step of the way. I'm under the impression that it's one of those situations where you want to say, relationships, good. You're happy to see him be successful. But to make it to the super bowl, it's like, all right, I didn't want him to be that good.
Billy R
No. And I drove to Kansas City by myself. When you all had the run and got close, I mean, I was all in on Varel. And then when he left, of course that killed me. And now I'm just so conflicted.
Drew Franklin
I'm happy for him.
Billy R
It's like a divorce. But he upgraded a lot and just left me back at the house.
Taylor Lewan
New life.
Drew Franklin
New life. He's still single. He's not. Not getting any matches, getting fat. And he went out and he's.
Will Compton
He's back in the gym because he wants Mike Ray.
Matt Jones
That's why.
Drew Franklin
That's Cam. It worked out. So tell me, you guys with FanDuel like the sweatshirts? Yeah.
Bryce Young
Thank you very much.
Taylor Lewan
Very comfortable. By the way. This is a homie sweatshirt.
Drew Franklin
Wanted to have you. We're actually DraftKings people. And I was like, we got to have them anyway because we love them. That's how much we want to have them all. Let them do their fanduel things.
Taylor Lewan
Yeah, well, I mean, did you see
Will Compton
the numbers coming out of Missouri?
Drew Franklin
I'm just saying, for me, I'm a Missouri boy.
Will Compton
You got to win your home states.
Drew Franklin
Well, you come look at the numbers in Kentucky where we're the DraftKings people, and then we'll talk.
Bryce Young
That's right.
Taylor Lewan
Hey, put it on the board. Fanduel. We're going after Kentucky next year.
Drew Franklin
This year. It was great to see you guys. Good to see you too, man.
Will Compton
Appreciate y' all scrubbing to find the. Coping with the boys. I'm going to scrub now.
Matt Jones
Coping with the boys.
Drew Franklin
Commentary and good talk.
Taylor Lewan
Appreciate y', all, man.
Will Compton
Have a good one. Love you guys.

Drew Franklin
So you know it's super bowl time when I agree to talk to a Tennessee guy.
Sean Alexander
Yes, sir.
Drew Franklin
I did.
Joe Milton
Yes, sir.
Drew Franklin
Because this is Joe Milton, was quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys, but also, unfortunately, a former Tennessee volunteer.
Will Compton
I.
Drew Franklin
By the way, I like the bling. You think we think I could use that? You think I could get a couple those?
Joe Milton
Get you a cuff in the back? It'll be all right.
Drew Franklin
It'll be all right, Joe.
Joe Milton
Nice. Thank you for having me.
Drew Franklin
You can't eat the same.
Joe Milton
No, you can, okay.
Drew Franklin
You can get anything stuck in it.
Joe Milton
I mean, you probably get something trapped in a. In the midst of it, but floss, you'll be all right.
Drew Franklin
Still going to do it. All right. So you play at Tennessee? Once I had a girl on Rocky Top. Know the next line?
Joe Milton
Nah, I do not know the next line.
Drew Franklin
Once I had a girl on Rocky Top. I do not Bear.
Joe Milton
I do not know the next line. I did not know the next line.
Drew Franklin
Come on, man.
Joe Milton
I did not know that part.
Billy R
And that was the main part.
Drew Franklin
You did say. When I said you played for Tennessee, I was like, I'm a Kentucky guy. What was your answer?
Joe Milton
We ain't never lose in Kentucky. Never.
Drew Franklin
We haven't won many in that series in general.
Joe Milton
Yeah, I know. We still got the bucket.
Drew Franklin
Yeah. Lives there. You did you play against Will, is that right?
Joe Milton
Well, Hinden played against Will.
Drew Franklin
Okay.
Joe Milton
The game, he thought, yeah, against Will.
Drew Franklin
Levis you were talking about.
Matt Jones
You shoot up.
Drew Franklin
You had. You had Hinden. So tell me about Cowboys faithful, wild. Tennessee faithful, wild. Explain the difference or are they similar?
Joe Milton
I kind of look at my colleges, like my NFL teams, like Michigan, it was more like the Patriots and the Cowboys more like Tennessee. In the essence of you're free, your will, the people that know you like. And the sec, when people walk up to you, it's, oh, can I take a picture? No, not right now. Okay. And it's still a picture. You know what I mean? And the Big Ten, like the Patriots were. And also at Michigan, it was like, okay, can I take a picture? No, not right now. Okay. Thank you.
Drew Franklin
So you're saying the SEC people are taking a picture.
Joe Milton
Oh, they're taking a picture no matter what.
Drew Franklin
So you're saying that. Does that mean they're rude or they're just crazy?
Joe Milton
Crazy.
Drew Franklin
Okay.
Joe Milton
I ain't gonna say they rude. They just Crazy for sure.
Drew Franklin
Mentioned the Patriots.
Billy R
You probably got a lot of relationships over there still. Absolutely. For a little bit.
Joe Milton
Absolutely.
Drew Franklin
Kind of wish you were still around, get taste of it.
Billy R
Are you happy for those boys? What's the dynamic like being a former Patriot? They are.
Joe Milton
I've never, never been that person that hates. So that's not me. But yeah, I got a lot of relationships over there. A lot of brothers that I built bonds with. And I'm so excited for those guys, especially because they work hard and I know they did because I was still throwing to some of those guys in the off season when they was in Florida. So it was cool. Some of them guys still came to my house, like popping Terrell Jennings. Like, they, they came to my house in Texas just to hang out with
Drew Franklin
me if I were to come here. What's your house like? We got, we got. We got fun stuff in there. We got gadgets.
Joe Milton
I got a lot of fun stuff. I got. I got every video game system, PlayStation wise.
Drew Franklin
Okay.
Joe Milton
Got a PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3.
Drew Franklin
Are you any good?
Guest/Contributor
Yeah.
Joe Milton
I play on a PC though. I got a gaming PC.
Drew Franklin
You stream?
Joe Milton
Yes.
Drew Franklin
Got one of those big fancy chairs. The headset, the whole. The whole thing.
Joe Milton
I got the whole thing. But when I move into mine.
Drew Franklin
So you. You're going at, you're going at people online. Do you talk trash to these?
Joe Milton
I talk trash on the field. I'm definitely talking trash on the mic.
Billy R
Do they know it's an NFL quarterback on the other end doing the trash talk on 2k?
Joe Milton
They do on 2k. Got the football over my head. So.
Drew Franklin
Wait a minute, so you, when you play 2K, you acknowledge I'm Joe Milton?
Joe Milton
Nah, to Ronnie, 2K did it. So it has Joe Milton and then it has a football over my head.
Matt Jones
Oh, wow.
Billy R
No hiding on that one.
Joe Milton
It ain't no hiding on 2K. Call of Duty is hiding my name There is Mr. Rocket, so.
Drew Franklin
Well, you're not hiding now. You just said your name.
Joe Milton
I mean, it is what it is. Come find me or.
Billy R
Millions and millions of listeners.
Joe Milton
I land that control every time.
Drew Franklin
Come bring it. That's exactly right.
Matt Jones
When you put.
Drew Franklin
When you grow up, I would think putting on the star has to be like one of the dreams of any young kid. What was it like the first time you put the uniform on?
Sean Alexander
It was so.
Joe Milton
It was surreal. I mean, my mom's a big Cowboys fan, so it was one of those moments, like, dang, I wish my mama could see this right now. Like, wish she was, like, right with me at the moment. But it was surreal. It was a great moment. I felt great. I still feel great to this day about putting it on. It's just a team that you like, man, that's a star. Like, oh, what a star. Oh, Dallas, like, you know, so it's just a big difference and I love it.
Drew Franklin
Who's got the bigger arm, you or Dak?
Joe Milton
Oh, me.
Sean Alexander
Yeah, me.
Drew Franklin
You go throw it.
Joe Milton
I mean, that can't throw the ball far, but, but not you.
Drew Franklin
You have one of the biggest arms. Like I, I, I can pick. Picture one particular play where had to be 65 yards in the air.
Joe Milton
That's nothing. But I'm with you.
Drew Franklin
What's the. Oh, it's nothing.
Guest/Contributor
Yeah.
Joe Milton
Top right now. If I was to have a football in my hand right now.
Drew Franklin
You're throwing football right now like Uncle Rico. How far you falling?
Joe Milton
86.
Drew Franklin
Very precise. So I, I tend to believe that because of the specificity.
Joe Milton
No, I'm serious. 86.
Drew Franklin
86 by 86.
Joe Milton
Yeah.
Drew Franklin
Well, there you go. Now you're here with us for Stand Together. Tell me about that.
Joe Milton
Well, Stand Together is a great or organization of helping us NFL players, because us NFL players, like, we have the heart we have, obviously we have the funds to go help our communities, help our families. Right. But staying together is like a road map for us where we don't have to go out and go create our own foundation. They go find the people for the foundation, they go get people together. So it's really good because it limits the stress we have to have on us. So we're allowed to just go to the communities, talk to the families and get everything that we need for those families. Right. So for me, it's about single mothers and single families. So being in a household and being a person that was in single households and live with my siblings, I'm the oldest of seven. I lost one of my sisters when I was seven. So being in a household and seeing my mom have to try to prepare food, going, coming home from practice or school, and there's no food on the table. When it's six o', clock, it's supposed to be dinner time, right. And there's no food. We gotta wait till about 9 o' clock to get some white rice and chicken and everybody else already done eight and ready for school for the next day. Like we're still waiting around and trying to figure things out. So being in that you have the, the heart. The heart that I have is so pure to the point that it's like I don't want nobody else to ever go through what I went through. Like, obviously you're going to go through things in life, you're going to face adversity. But if you don't, if you have an opportunity not to face it and go about it the right way, or if you do face it and have somebody in your corner to help you out and not have to go through it how I went through it, then that's what I'm here for.
Drew Franklin
Well, Joe Milton, thank you very much for your time. I. I'm actually kind of glad you don't know the words to Rocky Top. I know, I know the song when
Joe Milton
we Score well, I hear that a
Sean Alexander
lot, but I don't know, you certainly
Drew Franklin
heard a lot when you played us. Thank you very much for the time.
Joe Milton
No problem. Thank you all so much.
Drew Franklin
Appreciate it.
Billy R
Yeah Foreign.

You know it's not often that we get big time quarterback talents on NFL Cover 0, but we got it now. Bryce Young, Carolina Panthers Bryce, nice to have you here. I see you just been doing the rounds here. What's it like getting shuttled from one interview to the other?
Bryce Young
It's cool. I really appreciate the atmosphere of the environment. It's cool to be able to interact with people with the media with fans. So it's a lot of fun.
Drew Franklin
Everybody's going to have football questions, and that's fine. You're going to have plenty of chance to answer. One of the heroes of this show this season has been a young man named Carolina Mike. Do you know who Carolina Mike is?
Bryce Young
Carolina Mike.
Drew Franklin
If I had $150,000. Do you know this guy? The guy that sings about the Panthers?
Billy R
Oh, on TikTok.
Drew Franklin
On TikTok.
Bryce Young
Oh, that was. They brought him to the game.
Drew Franklin
He's saying, it's your game.
Bryce Young
They brought him to the game. I'm not. I didn't. He was like, he's like a Panthers.
Drew Franklin
Like, he's a Panthers fan, but he's also a rapper. I use that term loosely. He's. He's an accountant. He's like 47 years old, right?
Bryce Young
Classic rapper, accountant.
Drew Franklin
Incredible.
Bryce Young
Yeah.
Drew Franklin
It's like Tupac did the same thing back in the day.
Bryce Young
150,000. They played at a TV timeout in. In Carolina, one of the games, and we love it.
Drew Franklin
He said he'd like if he had 150,000, he'd buy a football team. Oh, but wait, that's not enough to buy a team. That' the lyric, see, with that kind of lyric. Genius. That's why he's been so successful, man.
Bryce Young
A lot of lyricism.
Drew Franklin
You got to give him a shout out. He listens.
Bryce Young
Oh, yeah. Big shout out. Yeah. Like I said, he was on the I. I And I noticed like in the. In the TV timeout, like, I'm. I'm getting here and coaching the. I was like, is this the. And we all sat as a. As a huddle. We all look. The jumbotron watched him watch the crowd go crazy. So big shout out.
Drew Franklin
Did you like the cargo short?
Billy R
Yeah.
Drew Franklin
Yeah.
Bryce Young
That's classic. That's classic.
Drew Franklin
Classic rapper wear.
Bryce Young
Exactly, exactly.
Drew Franklin
Tax season's coming up, too.
Billy R
If you need him, his accounting service, he's probably busy.
Drew Franklin
So this has been for you, like, this has been a breakout year. You, you know, you. You have elevated your game. But I also think kind of the n. The national respect, the sort of appreciation has taken off. What's that felt like in year three to kind of take that next step?
Bryce Young
Yeah, you know, it's definitely a blessing. I always want to grow. I always want to progress. Always want to make sure that. That I'm doing everything I can to help the team. As far as kind of the outside national stuff, again, I'm super grateful for the support. I'm super grateful for it. For me individually you know, it's just. It's stuff that's out of my control. You know, every. There's ebbs and flows, ups and downs in life. You know, everyone's opinion is going to change. For me, I try to just focus on the opinions of the people in the building, the people that I'm close with. You know, I've been a sports fan. You know, I am a sports fan. So I, again, I get it. I appreciate everyone's opinion because that's how people get opinions.
Drew Franklin
Like on the NBA, I could sit there and say, what do you think about the James Harden trade?
Bryce Young
You're gonna have an opinion. Yeah, for sure. For sure. So, yeah, it's all love. I appreciate whatever it is, negative, positive. I appreciate that's what feels a sport, and so I appreciate that. But, you know, for me, I try to keep my. My, you know, be where my feet are. Just. Just focus on. On the team and, you know, try to accomplish the goals that we set out as a uni.
Drew Franklin
You took a big step forward this year. Not just you, but the Panthers and, you know, not a lot of tradition there. Smaller market.
Billy R
What's it like doing it in Carolina and being a part of that? I'll admit, watching on tv, the fan base looks awesome.
Drew Franklin
Got to support there, but, you know,
Billy R
it is a smaller market in a franchise that hadn't as much tradition. Is there some extra pride in doing it there?
Bryce Young
Yeah, just like you said, you know, the fans, the support there is. Is amazing. You know, it means a lot for us just to be embraced as a team, as a franchise. So, you know, we. We rely on that a lot. We lean into that a lot. We. We make sure that, you know, for us, there's a ton of motivation just for the Carolinas to be able to. To. To. To do it in that. That. That area, that market, it's. It's, you know, it's huge for us. And again, we. We're. The support is huge for us. We're grateful for it. So we're going to continue to. To push to be our best, you know, to. To try to honor all that.
Billy R
A great mascot, too, Sir Per. Maybe the best mascot league.
Drew Franklin
My friend passed away last year. He had a custom Sir Per jersey. That's how much he likes.
Billy R
So I was like, you should get a Bryce Young.
Drew Franklin
No custom Sir Per, but what was the name of the podcast? Billy Meow Mix. Meow Mix. You've heard about that. Okay, so they quit doing it and then you all took off and they wanted to come back and the fans said no. Are you aware of the Meow Mix controversy?
Bryce Young
I need to get up on the. I'm. I need to get up on the. You guys are educating me.
Billy R
You're actually playing the game.
Drew Franklin
So you're a little bit. You may not care about the Meow Mix podcast. You're also. You're in Carolina NASCAR country. You've been to a NASCAR race.
Bryce Young
I have not been to a NASCAR race as a team. They did take us to. They took us to like, a. They took us to the speedway. Yeah, yeah, they took us to the speedway. Got us to like to see where they. They build some of the cars and got us kind of behind the scenes.
Drew Franklin
Behind the wheel.
Bryce Young
Not behind the wheel. There was a lot of liability. I, they, they took some guys on the. In the past passengers to do like, I want I. Something else that I wasn't able to go. But it was, it was a really cool experience.
Drew Franklin
You probably a little too valuable to the franchise to let you go 180 in the motor Speedway.
Bryce Young
I was watching on the side. It looked like a to. That's always cool.
Billy R
You're still pretty close to SEC country, though. Do you ever have, like, random Alabama fans outside your house cheering or anything around?
Bryce Young
Not outside the house yet, but everywhere else, which is really cool. I didn't, I'm from California originally, so I didn't know honestly, how, how big the, you know, how big of a reach the, the Alabama. The alumni base was, how big the, the fandom is. So until I went there, of course. And then now even I, I, I hear that just as much everywhere I go. And also, it's not just yet whether it's, it's, it's in the.
Drew Franklin
Do you ever want to tell Paul Fine mom just to turn it down a notch?
Will Compton
Yeah, he's.
Bryce Young
Yeah.
Sean Alexander
Yeah.
Bryce Young
There's a, that's always a, always a, always an entertaining one. But again, like you said, the support. I, I hear Roll Tide. I probably heard Roll Tide 10 times this morning, which is awesome.
Drew Franklin
Well, we're Kentucky fans, so I can't say it. All right. We also want to have. Joining us Adam Vassallo. He is with Big Brothers Big Sisters of America. And I'd love to have you talk about. You got your guy Bryce, some of the work you guys do.
Bryce Young
Yeah, we're grateful to have Bryce supporting our mission as a champion of our work. Big Brothers Big Sisters was founded in 1904, 120 years ago. We match young people Littles with mentors, which we call bigs across the country. This week, Bryce is helping us launch our annual campaign. It started six years ago in partnership with the NFL Inspired Change initiative. It's called the Big Draft. And it's these 60 days between super bowl and the NFL draft. While the NFL is drafting their next generation of players, Big brothers, big sisters is drafting the next generation of game changing mentors and communities across the country.
Drew Franklin
That's, that is great. Well, let me ask you, I'll ask you both this. I've actually never been a big Brother. I've considered it. Tell me why. What if I have someone out there is like, that's something I think would be good. Why, why should one do that?
Bryce Young
Well, I can speak firsthand just the, the importance of mentorship. You know, I don't think, and I think being on the, on the other side as well, it's easy I think to dismiss it and be, oh, you know, maybe I could get to give back. But you know, who, who wants to hear from me or what can I bring to the table? And there's so many, so many, so many kids, so much youth that just are, are looking for, for something tangible to grasp, looking for a relationship, looking for, and I, I can, I can guarantee you whatever you have, whatever you bring the table is enough. You know, the, just the, the, the time that it takes being able to show that you care about someone, you're investing someone for someone young. You know that, that, that can mean the world of difference and something small, something big in their life trajectory. So I definitely encourage you, encourage anyone that can to be a mentor because you know there's, you can make such a huge impact in people's lives and you don't have to be, have this crazy thing, have this crazy story. It's the investment in someone young that means a world.
Drew Franklin
I might join the big draft over the next 60 days. Bryce, Adam, thank you very much for your time and enjoy the Super Bowl.
Bryce Young
Thank you so much. Thanks for having us.
Matt Jones
Well, that was a heck of a day. You get that? I mean, how many times? Well, first of all, in all my years of doing podcasts and radio, I'm not sure you get a more illustrious line of guests than Sean Alexander, Bryce Young busting with the boys and Joe Milton. I think that's going to be hard to top.
Billy R
Yeah. When the NFL told us they'd get us some guests, I didn't think we would get like a list NFL name
Matt Jones
it be was to going to get
Drew Franklin
Kirk Harp, Street's dog.
Matt Jones
Although I think that might have been the bigger celebrity I was Practicing my
Billy R
interviews for backup kickers and special teamers and then they roll out Bryce Young and all kinds of stars.
Matt Jones
I, I still can't get over by the way these guys that are the bounty people cuz they look like they're wearing, they're, they're dressed like Archie and Reggie from the Archie comics with Jughead. They've got those sweaters on it.
Billy R
It's Cooper Dean, I believe.
Guest/Contributor
Yeah, he's good.
Drew Franklin
Oh is that okay?
Billy R
Yeah, he can wear whatever he wants.
Matt Jones
That's true. If you're Cooper De Jean you can, you can do whatever you like. By the way we, we also as I said at the beginning I was trying to hint getting to go to the tight ends party had our second bite at the apple and once again struck out. I don't think, I don't think I'm going to get to see George Kittle and Travis Kelce tonight. I thought I might but I don't think it's happening.
Guest/Contributor
That's okay. We still got some other parties lined up for but you know being able to sing to Bryce Young Carolina Mike
Matt Jones
song it really that is a highlight to get to do that. He how about how nice all these people.
Guest/Contributor
Yeah.
Billy R
Also on the song they were nice but Bryce admitted that during a timeout the team stopped. They did not talk football and they watched his performance.
Matt Jones
I wasn't going to bring that up but if you want to. I mean if I don't know what game it was Carolina Mike performed but if he did not, if they didn't win that game. Now we might know why. If during the timeout they all just watch Carolina Mike perform.
Billy R
But to your original point about everybody, everybody being so nice, they all were. I mean this is a pretty fast paced environment and they'd hang around and talk for as long as they could before they had to get to the
Matt Jones
next guy dressed as a Washington commander including pants.
Billy R
He's usc. He was outside filming with a tripod like he would hit record and then he'd run around and talk.
Matt Jones
Kind of a one man show.
Billy R
I don't know know. He's fully padded if I'm guessing he's probably a Tik tok tik tok Tik tocker.
Matt Jones
I've been amazed how many Tik Toky people are here.
Billy R
Tik Toky.
Drew Franklin
Yeah.
Matt Jones
And there's also a threads. I didn't realize Threads has a very big presence here. Well listen, it's been a been a great day too. We still have one more day tomorrow. Lots of other athletes will be joining us tomorrow. Not sure who they are, but we, we'll get to know them. And also Christian Ma.
Billy R
Heck yeah. Again, another big name.
Matt Jones
Talk about another guy with dreamy eyes. Yeah, or maybe the first guy. He and Mike Golick, they're giving us
Billy R
all the good eyes here. That's right.
Matt Jones
If you want, if you want sex appeal. Christian McCaffrey and Mike Golick have all been part of COVID Zero. Well, we, we thank you guys very much. We will have another episode tomorrow getting you ready for the super bowl here live in San Francisco. Sort of live. This is NFL Cover Zero.
