And someone who always feel like keep it real at all times, my boy, Josh Smith. What's happening, Jay Schmood. What's good?
Jamal Crawford
What's good, family?
Joe Johnson
Hey, slow motion, man. Slow motion. Hey, hey. And I got an. I got another. Another. I got another special guest here with me tonight, okay? Hey, hey, hey. This boy here was something else. You hear me? Unc said he was Here when he was. Well, hey, my player partner, Mike.
Mike Bibby
What's going on, baby?
Joe Johnson
Bill. Hey, what's going on?
Mike Bibby
I got two of my guys with me. Hey, look, before we start, I want to shout out my podcast, Straight Game podcast. We've had Smooth on there already. Joe Johnson Jr. It's hard to get a hold of on that. We trying to get you on too, Joe. We trying to get you.
Joe Johnson
Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, Bill, Bill, Timing is everything, brother. Okay? I'm gonna come on there. I'm gonna come on there and talk some stuff with you.
Mike Bibby
We got Smooth on there, too. We probably get both of y' all on there together, too.
Joe Johnson
Yeah, yeah, yeah. We all talk about some old times, man. You know? You know what I'm talking about? Smooth.
Jamal Crawford
Yeah, I do. I definitely do.
Mike Bibby
We had some good times, man. Look, I always. I always tell this story, our story about our game of where, you know, when you run through your plays at the beginning of the. Like, we're going through our plays. You know what I mean?
Joe Johnson
Yeah, yeah, yeah. So like if we meet there at 4 o', clock because we got. Yeah, I know what you mean.
T-Mobile Terms Announcer
Yeah.
Mike Bibby
You know, we got a hundred dollar tip. We got the hundred dollar tip game that we played. Yeah, I remember Smooth. Yeah, Smooth almost got us up one time because the smooth shot it and just took off full speed and just pushed. Pushed the.
Joe Johnson
Hey, hey, hey. So. Hey, Chad. So what? What b I'm talking about is so right before games, instead of us having shoot around in the morning, maybe we'll come in at about 4 o' clock and we'll have a walk through. But the walk through, because we get there early, we'll start playing 21. But the 21 turned into something like when you was kids, because if you get two tips, you out, you know, you get one tip, it may take all your points the second t you. You know what I mean? Man, we used to go so hard in the 21 before the warm up.
Mike Bibby
Remember the three tip? Remember, remember we'd be running through our plays in practice, remember? And the LD was like, man, y' all do that after practice, man. Y' all don't do that. We would like we was running our offense.
Event Promoter
Boom.
Mike Bibby
Fast break had coming back down. No one wanted to shoot that. Everybody kept swinging and swinging till somebody shoot it. Tip the Al. Al. Tip it back to me, boy. You owe $300.
Joe Johnson
Hey, hey, hey. There were great times, bro. You know, I always tell people that Atlanta team, especially when we got you, Bill, when we got Jamal Crawford. Hey, man, you, boy, was something else.
Mike Bibby
That was fun, man. Like I said, I. I like coming there. I had to play a different role. You know, I was. I was with. Everybody, was young, you know, Josh coming out of high school, we had. Marvin was young. Chills. I mean, even playing with you, Joe, like, you. You and me were the only people that really had playoff experience. So coming there, I knew my role was going to change. You know, I was playing with the guys. Even when I got traded there, I was like, damn, man, I don't want
Joe Johnson
to go to Atlanta.
Mike Bibby
And then all of a sudden, I was like, shit, okay, this is. This is a good spot for me to be, because I kind of. I always tell people I played a Velotti divock role coming there. You know what I mean? Like, trying to bring everybody together. I know I knew my time was coming to a close soon, and to bring everybody together. I remember. I remember taking everybody to the mall, and I made that rule. Remember I made that rule that said whoever was with us at that time making the most money got to pay for dinner. Ah, that cut down so quick
Amazon Prime Advertiser
the
Mike Bibby
first day Joe was there, you know, Joe was making the most money. So after that, Joe paid. The first time, we ain't see. I didn't see Joe again. And it started trickling down smooth, was gone. The next thing you know was me, Mario west, and somebody else. Y' all left me with the bill, so I was spitting the bill now with two other guys.
Joe Johnson
Hey, hey, hey. When y' all think about those times, you know, Bill, before we traded for you to come to the Hawks, bro, you know, me being a huge fan of your game, obviously Arizona and everything that you did in Sacramento. When you think about those Sacramento teams that you played on, bro, early in your career, what you think made those teams so special, B. I mean, obviously, the chemistry y' all had and, you know, the. Your high IQ for the game, the way y' all passed the ball, the way y' all made the game easier for one another. What do you think? What was so special about those Kings?
Mike Bibby
We genuinely liked each other. You know what I mean? So that's why.
Joe Johnson
That's what it's like.
Mike Bibby
That's why I tried to bring. When I came to Atlanta, like, even, like, we gamble on the plane, you know, we around the plane, we'll, you know, go to dinner and stuff like that. I just wanted to make sure everybody would hang out with each other and really liked each other, you know, like us going to the mall, like, come on, everybody put your Shit down. Let's go to the mall. We gonna hang out. Everybody just shoot the shit in a little bit. But that was the thing, like, we competed, though, like, with practice, that second squad that we used to have, like Scott Pollard, Bobby Jackson, Heo. Turkoglu, they used to beat our ass in practice, you know what I mean? And so that used to get us ready as far as, like, okay, we know that, like, once. If we don't have. If we don't start out good with Howard plays. We knew Webb was the alpha dog on the team. We just knew coming in, like, we just had to make sure we show up when. When he needed us.
Joe Johnson
Yeah. Hey, man, it was fun watching you guys. It was fun playing against y'. All. I never forget, bro. I mean, from C. Webb to Vladi Dbots to Doug Christie, those guys were hell of a passers and IQ through the roof. And then you add you to that mix, bro, y' all were just a hell of a team. Think about those legendary Kings versus Laker battles. Tell us a little bit about those battles, bro. Knowing.
Onplus Nicotine Advertiser
Hey, hey.
Joe Johnson
Knowing what we know now, you know what I'm saying? Smooth. Knowing the history of the game, y' all may have been robbed a little bit.
Event Promoter
A little bit.
Joe Johnson
Do you honestly. Hold on, hold on, hold on. Do you honestly think it was. Hell, yeah.
Mike Bibby
You seen that, man? Look, that's a whole. That could change my whole. That could have changed my whole career. You know, I was rolling at that point. Now, what if. Now what if it looks like if I get. We go to the finals, I get Finals mvp. That's gonna look a whole. A whole lot better on my. On my resume than the I got now.
Joe Johnson
Oh, no, listen, Bib, I ain't gonna lie to you, y'. All. Y' all probably should have had one. Boy, y' all ain't. No, no, no, no. Cause y' all had a whip. Y' all had a whip. I'm talking about.
Amazon Prime Advertiser
Man.
Joe Johnson
Listen, I ain't think. I didn't think nobody could beat that Lakers, Kobe, and Shaq. But, bruh, when I tell y', all, push him to the brink, obviously, under certain circumstances, maybe y' all would have won it. But, man, that was a pleasure to watch. You know what I mean? Cause I was a young buck. I was just coming into the league in. In 01, bro. You know, that was everything to me, to see great, great basketball like that played at the highest level just to be a part.
Mike Bibby
Just to be a part of that. I think Shaq's the biggest, the best Big man that ever played a game, you know, Kobe is top two for me, just to be in those battles and going to LA and seeing all those movie stars and the guys that you look up to, you know, in the movies, coming and cheering against you, knowing we had them beat. I mean, I couldn't ask for nothing else, man, but like, I want to. I want to pump you guys up a little bit too, you know, I mean, coming to you guys, I mean, it was probably the easiest games that I've had to play, you know, I mean, like, they always talk about my defense, how bad my defense was, but shit, I didn't have to be good, you know what I mean? I got smooth back there, you know what I mean? So that, that, that, that blocked out a lot of stuff and like. And send screens for you, Joe. A lot of these guys, a lot of these point guards. I said the best. I thought I used to set the best screens.
Joe Johnson
Oh, hold up, Bibby. Bibby, baby, hold up. I've never in life, even playing with Nash Marbury, Kenny Anderson. I played with some grace. Boy, ain't nobody said no screen. How you set a screen, you hear me? That boy nothing but chess over there. Boy do so smooth. What's wrong with the boy?
Jamal Crawford
Oh,
Joe Johnson
chill. He don't do number press when he go in the gym now.
Jamal Crawford
Like a calling back.
Joe Johnson
Hey, hey, he in the weight room. And that boy gonna say the mean ski a mean screen. I ain't gonna lie to you.
Mike Bibby
That's it. But that, no, that no one ever wanted to switch, you know, I mean, I. I always had. I always had a little guy. I mean, so I set a screen and he was not. He did not want none of you. Joe. And he would Joe have a wide open jump shot and whatever. I mean, even with smooth. So, I mean, like, even playing with you guys, man, it kind of changed my game too. It's like, you know, I looked up and like, Atlanta was like, Atlanta and Sacramento's are two best places that I've been. The two best teams that I played on, you know, Like, I still talk to you guys. I still, you know, talk to Jamal when I see him. I saw AC Law a couple weekends ago.
Joe Johnson
Hold on, hold on, hold on. That's saying a lot, bro. You play. You played with the Heat with D. Wade Braun. You went to New York. Look, man, you giving up?
Mike Bibby
Yeah, I mean, that's the. I mean, being there and being with you guys, like, the most fun I had, like, as far as being on the court and playing basketball, like that's the way I wanted to play. I got. It was. I got out. Was this all. Fast break. I mean, I could think you could look at the highlights of me and smooth. I was throwing that bitch from anywhere. I just took and just throw that shit up. And I was gonna get in, like, playing with. Playing with you, Joe. Just know a guy that's gonna get it. And all I had to do is go find an open spot because they gonna double team you. You know what I mean? And I was like, shit. I just got knocked down the shots I wanted to. Remember. Smooth.
Joe Johnson
Remember that bet we had?
Mike Bibby
Remember I said smooth, not to shoot 10 threes all season?
Amazon Prime Advertiser
Remember?
Joe Johnson
Yeah, we were just talking about that with Jeff the other day.
Mike Bibby
Yeah, Yeah.
Jamal Crawford
I think I shot about the six. Six of them.
Amazon Prime Advertiser
Remember?
Jamal Crawford
I was supposed to be All Star game.
Joe Johnson
You should have been all star.
Mike Bibby
He came down like D. If that wasn't a three, I didn't shoot the three. I said, smooth. I ain't keep. I ain't keeping stats. You gonna see me. He like, I didn't shoot no 3. I didn't shoot no 3. We had the most fun there, man, being there, being with you guys. And like, Joe, I'm the only one that could. I only remember if you remember.
Joe Johnson
Oh, man. Hold on, hold on. So. So right before the game, right before the buzzer, by the sign, starting lineup probably by the last five to six minutes. Me and Bill play one on one every game. We should play one on one before.
Mike Bibby
Hold on a second. My son just came in here.
T-Mobile Advertiser
Look.
Joe Johnson
Hey, what's up, bro? Hey.
Jamal Crawford
Hey.
Joe Johnson
I remember when you was a legit 10 years old.
Mike Bibby
How y' all doing, man?
Klarna Advertiser

Mike Bibby
I appreciate that, man.
Event Promoter

Klarna Advertiser

Mike Bibby
Good to see y', all, too.
Joe Johnson
Yes, sir.
Onplus Nicotine Advertiser
Good.
Mike Bibby
So go tell our story, Joe. I used to lock. I'm the only person that could lock you up.
Jamal Crawford
So.
Joe Johnson
So? So me and Bib just play one on one before every game, bro. And it's like, you know, good, good honest defense. He claimed he think he the only one who used to lock me up. But we should have some good battles, though, Bib. Hey, hey. Cause you know what? That's that. She used to get me going before the game. You know what I mean? It get your juices flowing.
Mike Bibby
You couldn't block shots, though. You couldn't. You could. The rule was you couldn't block the shots and you couldn't do anything. I used to hit him in the top of his head. And we just played in the. Remember. Remember the Big Three.
Joe Johnson
I was.
Mike Bibby
Y', all, okay? I was like, let me go. Michael Garden. I'm over there grabbing his arm and pinching him and pulling his head there.
Joe Johnson
Hey, hey, hey, Chad. He talking about when we played in the Big Three and he was playing with the Ghost Ballers. How about let him guard me? Hell, I. Hey, hey, Smooth. Hey, Smooth. I was handing out buckets like they were skittle. What a man. Here, you have something. You have something. He was killing him out there.
Mike Bibby
I'm the only one that. Stop it, man. Stop.
Joe Johnson
Hey, hey, hey, listen. Hey, we had a hell of a time here, bro. Look, you know, Bill, before you got. Before we traded for you, we wasn't in the playoffs yet there. Yet we end up making the AC with you, and we end up playing against the Boston Celtics. And we all know how that historic series.
Amazon Prime Advertiser
I mean, we couldn't.
Joe Johnson
We weren't competing worth the damn in Boston. But in Atlanta, boy, they ass couldn't get no dub over here.
Mike Bibby
You hear me?
Jamal Crawford
At least we. At least we head home now.
Joe Johnson
Hey, hold on. Smooth. Smooth, Bill. No lie. I've never in my life seen Atlanta
Mike Bibby
rocking like that, bro. Me neither, man. Me neither.
Joe Johnson
And. And they had some good teams trade and took them to the Eastern Conference finals. I ain't never seen that building jumping like that.
Mike Bibby
We had the highlight factory moving, man. Man, have some good times.
Joe Johnson
Oh, it was definitely. Definitely.
Mike Bibby
Y' all pay more.
Joe Johnson
Yeah, bro. Oh, man. Come on, bro. Come on.
Mike Bibby
I know I'm the only one that paid more. How crazy.
Joe Johnson
Hey, you gotta chill.
Mike Bibby
Hey, you gotta get my money back.
Joe Johnson
Hey, you gotta chill. Hey, hey, hey, hey. We. We gotta send. We gotta send one prayer up, bro, from. For a good friend. Eyes, man. Big J, bro, I know we had some great times with Big J. We had some great fun times. We all used to. Go ahead, Smooth. Say it again.
Jamal Crawford
I said rip to the big fella.
Mike Bibby
Big rv.
Joe Johnson
Oh, man. Oh, man, we used to have some great time. I tell cats all the time how he used to play cars with us, too. Me. It used to be me, Bib, Josh and Big J. And we cracking jokes on each other and everything. And if I had a little shindig at the crib, Big J was the first one to show up, bro. So I actually not accidentally, but I ran into him at Atlanta Hawks game last season, bro. I get. I don't know if he had already got diagnosed, but, you know, he didn't say nothing. About it. And me and him sat there and chopped it up for probably about 10 minutes.
Amazon Prime Advertiser
It was a game.
Joe Johnson
I can't remember what game it was. And I. I hadn't seen him since, bro. And then when I heard the news, I was like, damn. And it took me back to all those memories we had on the plane, the bus rides. Because at the end of the day, y' all know, bro, once we stop playing professional, that's the one thing that you really miss. That camaraderie that you have with a cat. Me. Josh, you know what we talking on the plane, the bus, playing cards. And they just made me think back how, man, life is short, bro. But Big J was a great dude. He was a great dude.
Mike Bibby
Real quiet. But who gave him the name Big
Joe Johnson
rv I think you did. You gave everybody nickname, bro. You. Hey, Smooth. Did you say he was a bad influence, bro?
Jamal Crawford
Bad influence, man. Alligator Hands. Remember he. Big Jason, that lotion on you was getting on his head.
Joe Johnson
His skin
Jamal Crawford
grab the cars like that, man.
Joe Johnson
Yeah, yeah.
Jamal Crawford
They were so dry.
Joe Johnson
Hey, there was days, bro, we had some fun, man.
Mike Bibby
One of the best times I had, man. Like I said, like, no matter what team I played with, I put with you guys and Sacramento up there, man, it was just fun times. It was basketball, you know what I mean? Like, when I went to New York, that shit, my career was over, man. I didn't wanna. I ain't gonna lie to you. I was done playing. Woody was like, mike, come play one more season. I'm like, woody, I'm done, man.
Joe Johnson
He was like.
Mike Bibby
He's like, just come play. I said, woody, I am done. So, like, when I got there, I had no intention of playing no games. I'm not gonna lie to you. So I got there, I was like, man, I'm working out okay. You know, I'm gonna try. I was out there trying, but I just didn't have it in me no more. So I was like, in the games, Woody would be like, you wanna play today? I was like, nah, Woody, I'm cool. Just leave me over here. Don't feel like you need to play me with it. I worked out already. Then, you know, be some games, like, four minutes left. Like, you wanna play? Yeah, put me in. Let me go ahead and just run a little bit. So, I mean, I was done already, but, I mean, it wasn't the same as with you guys and coming there, like, going to you guys, I felt. I still, like. I felt like I had a little bit left in the tank, you know what I mean? Come in there and just playing with. Okay, I'm the older guy on the team. Let me try to see if I could rejuvenate these guys and, you know, get them to play. And we kind of got in a pace play and we just played. I mean, and it showed like, it showed just the talents that you guys had. And for me to be like an old wheel to come in and just kind of push you guys along, you know, it made my time. Like I said, that was one of the best times of my career being in Atlanta with y'. All.
Joe Johnson
Yeah. Hey, hey, we appreciate that, bro. We had a great time, not not only just playing on the court, but off the court as well. Life was great. Hey, hey, let's pivot a little bit to you coaching. I see you coaching now.

Even as a coach, having a guy. Like, we kept. We kept five years. This. We get five kids this past year from the last team. And just to show that just the extra year with us is life changing, man. Like, you get kids that want to transfer out now after one year, and it's hard when you bring in, you know, last year we have 15 new guys, and it was like trying to put all these 15 guys together, try to put all these attitudes and the mindsets together is tough, man. It's not the same as when we were growing up to where, you know, my main goal is to get to the NBA. These kids are bypassing college, are bypassing the NBA now to stay in college.
Joe Johnson
Hey, so let me ask you this. So has it changed since you've been coaching? Has it changed the way you've looked at the game of basketball or how you perceive it now? Cause it's played totally different now, Bill. Cause think about it. When you came into the league, bro, in 98. What was that? Damn, 98. Listen, think about it. Biggs wasn't shooting threes. If you playing with. If you playing with Webb and D Boss, hell, they ain't been. They ain't never shot no threes in their life. You know what I mean? Maybe way up late in his career when he really. But nowadays, hell, if you can't shoot the threes, you can't.
Mike Bibby
I mean, there's a lot of people. I mean, like, you gotta have, like, in college, you gotta have at least one big guy that could play in the post with the rebound to where you could cause double team still. But, like, when I was playing, it was. It was Inside out, you know, I mean, I was on my team. Yeah, my team. I was the third. I was the third threat because I had Sharif with his back to the basket country with his back to the basket. And hopefully they get double team and pass it out to me so I can make something happen. But see, I mean, that. But that's the way it was back then. You know, it's changing now where you get one guy now, but now everybody just wants to shoot threes. And, I mean, the game's changed, but that's the way it is. Like, I don't know how it is for you. Smooth. But being at that, Being at the high school level, I was there for a few years, but, I mean, coming in and I. Now, I think if Nil was there when I was playing, I probably wouldn't have made it where I was at today. Because everybody come in like you. Like, I. We have GMs, but I deal with those guys in the money and figure if they're worthy of the money that they get. Because, I mean, you look at these guys, these guys are averaging two and two, and they. We starting at 750,000. You know what I mean? You're averaging two and two. And I mean, it's just. It just. You know what I mean? So.
Joe Johnson
Hey, hey. So does it take the loyalty out the game now? Meaning? You know, back when we was in school, Bib, you couldn't just. You couldn't just transfer and go play right away. Now, hell, you know, they changing teams. Like, they changing draws.
Mike Bibby
Five teams and five.
Joe Johnson
I mean, how. How, as a coach? I mean, how do you police a guy now? How do you stay on the guy? How do you hold him accountable without him feeling the way and be like, man, you know what, B, I'm tripping. I'm gonna go over here, Tennessee or Arkansas.
Mike Bibby
But my thing is, like, we're a smaller school, Joe, so it's kind of like I want these guys to move on, you know, I mean, we don't have. We don't have the 6, $7 million for you to play here as much as I. As what? I mean, it's gonna look good on me if. If we develop you and get you to those schools, it's gonna look good on our staff. It's gonna look good on me. But my thing is, like, you know, coming to a place like us, we're smaller, we don't have as much money as the other schools. So my thing is, you know, get you a year or two here, you know, Smooth. I talked to you about it too as well. Get you a year here instead of going to like another prep school or something like that. Get you a year at Sac State or. And work your way up. Now you get played there for a year or two. Now you show these guys like, hey, look, I developed, I could do this. And now I'm at that level and I want to push these guys. I want to push these guys to that next level. To where it's like, go make your money. You know, it's all about money. Go make your money. I had this one kid that wanted to come back to school. I'm not gonna say his name, wanted to come back to school, love him to death. But it'd be selfish of me to try to keep him, you know what I mean? But he. The money in college is outrageous right now. It'll be more than what he's making him pro. So I mean, I wanted. I want these kids to be pro. I want them to fulfill their dream. I want them to go be pros.
Joe Johnson
Hey, is that something. Is that like. Is that like. What's one of the biggest lessons you try to get these young guys, bro, who probably.
Jamal Crawford
Look, look.
Joe Johnson
Cause when they get to you, Bill, some of them probably already think they got it figured out. You know what I mean? What's one of the biggest lessons?
Mike Bibby
You just work hard, man. Like this. This shit ain't promised to you? No. Like, I just saw somebody, I saw Stack talking about today. 1% make the NBA, you know? I mean, it's not gonna be right. It's not gonna be for everybody. And everybody thinks that they're gonna make it. And it's not necessarily gonna happen. Especially if you don't put the work in.
Joe Johnson
If you got God, go ahead and think about it. Smooth. Think about this, bro. It's only 450 players in the NBA every year. Not. Not just this year, not just last year. You know what I mean? So you gotta understand, bro, just as much as. As we geeked about, you know, the top prospects that's coming into the NBA now, hell, it's gotta be some leaving for sure. You know what I mean? So I think. I think it's so prestige, bro. Because you're right, bib. It's only a 1% of us, bro. Think about the millions of people who wanna play in the NBA. And hell, it ain't been but like 5, 000 people ever. So to even be in that conversation, to even be in that fraternity, bro, it's a blessing.
Mike Bibby
And the ain't Easy. Like the people, they look at all the glamor. This ain't easy. I work my ass off, you know? I mean, like, I ain't. I ain't playing with you, Joe. I was. I was sitting there shooting. Shooting shots in the. In a gym that had two baskets, and they're playing pickup, and I'm shooting my shots in between them, you know, so I'm there for four or five hours just getting shots up, you know what I mean?
Joe Johnson
Hey, so. So you. You do shooting games. You play one on one with them. What I know you got to be out there trying to.
Mike Bibby
I saw. I got. I got gloves signed with me, right? So I. I like.
Joe Johnson
Oh, you got.
Mike Bibby
Yes. Love something with us this second year with us. So he. I got it. I have to get on the court because we had a lot of injuries last year. So I got on the court. You know, I'm out there just. You know, I'm out there. I'm out there. You know what I mean? So I'm almost 50 years old. So he got the ball. We played. It was like a three on three. Break. Coming back, right? So I seen his lie. His eyes light up, right? So he talking about. Yeah, now he gonna. He started coming at me full speed. I said, yeah, come on. He went up. I found the out of him. I said, I come. I caught. I called the team and I said, look, I'm out here. Don't mean y' all just start attacking me, okay? I'm out here just trying to feel the body. I' ma foul the out y'.
Amazon Prime Advertiser
All.
Mike Bibby
Y' all come at me. I'm gonna let y' all know that right now. We ain't doing that in here.
Joe Johnson
Hey, hey, hey.
Amazon Prime Advertiser
You think.
Joe Johnson
You think kids nowadays appreciate the fundamentals of the game, bro? You know, think about this, Bill. Smooth when we were coming up, guys, one step back inside stepping euro. It wasn't none of that. It was basic basketball, you may have heard, had a little flair to your game. But we practiced the fundamentals. Not only did we practice it, we mastered the fundamentals. Hell, I know me coming up, like, the first thing I could do was handle the rock, you know, knowing how to play the game, playing the right way. I never got into it to where I was just a guy who. You go recruit and give him 300 grand to play with it, play with us in this tournament, you know what I mean? Do y' all think. Do y' all think the fundamentals is gone from today's game?
Jamal Crawford
Yeah, absolutely. Guys want to be skill Based. But this is what I was talking about a few days ago about guys wanting to skip steps, you know what I'm saying? I mean, I didn't automatically jump off the porch knowing how to do all kind of stuff. I had to really put the work in. In the gym in order to kind of like, first of all, we didn't have trainers growing up, so we play. Like, we. We was. Like, you said you were shooting in between, like, Bib, you said you were shooting in between guys running up and down, grown men running up and down. You just trying to get your shots up in between it. And that's just like, we play.
Amazon Prime Advertiser
We.
Jamal Crawford
We grew up with an imagination, you know what I'm saying? And we. And we catered. Imagination of what we wanted to do as far as basketball. We watched. We watched the game of basketball. A lot of these. A lot of these guys don't even watch the game. That's why you see a lot of these kids making the wrong decision when it comes to going to colleges because they're just picking these names because that's what they dreamed of and heard, but they're not watching. Like, how do they. How are they catering to my position? Right. Saying, like, how does it. Is this school really catering to the position that's going to help me get to the next level, whatever I want to get to as far as basketball. But they definitely skip steps a lot. It's a lot of side. It's a lot of. It's a lot of guys that are, you know, every time I. Every time I go out there with my son or he's training with somebody, I'm like, look, man, before you do anything, get your form shots up.
Joe Johnson
Yep.
Jamal Crawford
Saying. Because, you know, that's. That's 70 max right there if you just do it.
Mike Bibby
That's how we start practice every day. Smooth. With form shots. 50 form shots.
Jamal Crawford
Yeah, absolutely. And then, yeah, you know, people take, you know, when we do have practice, you know, I'm three man weaving. I'm three on two. Two on one.
Joe Johnson
Yeah, yeah.
Jamal Crawford
Like, guys got to know how to convert in those situations during the game. But how do you know if the coach is not really catering to that and. And they're catering to whatever the player wants because they're afraid the player is going to leave.
Joe Johnson
Right, right, right. I think that's the hardest thing to juggle nowadays, bro.
Jamal Crawford
Yeah, for sure.
Joe Johnson
I mean, so it's. I think it's hard being a coach, Bib. And, you know, I ain't gonna lie, I enjoy seeing you appreciate it. And I know them kids, boy, they giving you. I know they giving you everything. You know what I mean? But if you could. If you could get one piece of advice to every young point guard currently, you know, chasing that NBA dream, man, I wanna make it to the NBA. What advice?
Mike Bibby
Just work hard, man. Like, my thing is, like, you could be the greatest in the world, but if you don't put that work in, it ain't gonna. It's not. Nothing's gonna come into play. Like, you got guys that are working at their craft. They're pros now. Like, these college kids are pros now. We pay you to play you that you should. There should be nothing else that you're doing besides being in the gym. And that's. That's the biggest thing that got me over the hump. Cause when I was in high school, I was the number one point guard in the country. And I like, in high school, I really didn't really do much. Like, I played at the park. Like, I played. There was no workout. I didn't do no.
Joe Johnson
That's what we.
Mike Bibby
I did no workouts. Like, there was no workouts.
Joe Johnson
Hold on, hold on, hold on, hold on, hold on. And we gonna get you outta here in a few minutes. But you say you played. Your dad played in the NBA. You know what I mean? You was around the game as a kid. Like, you say, growing up, all we did was play. We ain't have trainers, bro. Like, how did you keep that motivation to continue to play and be like, man, I'm gonna make a name for myself. I know. I'm Michael Henry Bibby. Yeah, yeah. Now think about that. Because I always wonder, bro. And I. And. And I kind of watch from admiration as far as guys who played in the NBA and their kids happen to make it and, you know, whether it's past what they've done or just making it alone. I know it's tough, bro, because you got to have a different type of mentality.
Mike Bibby
Yeah, my thing was different. Like, I grew up a little bit without my dad. My dad wasn't really around. So, like, he was. He was coaching stuff. Everybody used to. Like Henry, Bibby's son, he wasn't really around. He was out coaching. So he was in Venezuela, Puerto Rico. So he was out there coaching as I was growing up. So, like, he saw me play one game in high school. I still think they gave him the Southern California job to try to get me, you know what I mean? Because he came to me, he's like, yeah, you want to play for your dad. You come average 40 over here. I'm like, man, I'm going to Arizona. So I mean, damn, you tell.
Joe Johnson
Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. So just like on he got game when Denzel Washington got out to get Ray Allen. Hold on, man. You went against Pops.
Mike Bibby
I had to.
Joe Johnson
You said, damn that, damn that Pops.
Mike Bibby
I'm going over there. I'm going to Arizona, man. I mean. Cause I knew what Arizona did for the guards. They put guards in the NBA. My goal was being the NBA. I never out of usc. I really didn't know any guys that went to the league like that. So I was with Arizona. I mean, Damon Stoudeman, Sean Elliott, Khalid Reeves, Steve Kerr, I mean, it was just going all the way down the line. I was like, okay, Coach Olson is a mastermind. I want to go be there and be close to him. My main thing is I wanted to be close to home, man. I was an hour 15 minute drive and I could drive home on the weekend, and I was cool with that.
Joe Johnson
All right, one more question. We're gonna get you out of here. We appreciate you for joining us on Nightcap for the ISO Takeover. Me and my boy J. Smooth. One more question. It said, how come Fat Joe say you almost beat him up with some sneaky Joe?
Mike Bibby
Putting a lot on it, man. So look, so Joe, Joe got like 15 people at my house. So Joe come to the house, right? So Joe gave me a pair of DJ Khaled. So, you know, okay, Joe, you here. You know, go ahead, pick a shoe. You can grab a shoe, you know, grab what you want. But he's in my good closet, though. Like, my closet with like this, you know, my good closet. Yeah, go ahead, Joe, pick so you. I'm drinking a little bit, whatever. So I turn around, like, five of his guys got like only each hand. They got one. The shoe I got one of. So I'm like. I said, joe, you can't take all five, man.
Jeremy Pargo
Just.
Event Promoter
That's it.
Mike Bibby
I said, man, just go ahead and pick one. Pick one that you want, and then I'll let you roll with one. So he's looking at him and I'm looking like, please don't pick those. Please don't pick those. And he was like, I'm gonna go with these. I said, damn, it's the only one made. It was.
Jamal Crawford
I was.
Mike Bibby
When I was supposed to be an all star in Sacramento. Mike Torres. Shout out to Mike Torres. He gave. He made a shoe for me. The 9. The Jordan 9 lows with the sit with the silver patent leather. And he picked those. Have you ever seen Joe with those shoes, man? I think there's one of those made, man. And I didn't rough him up, man.
Joe Johnson
You let him get. You didn't rough him up. You let him get out there with him.
Mike Bibby
I didn't rough him up. And the crazy thing was. And I told him, I was like, hey, you know what? It's all good, because my sister, My daughter was singing at the time. And so I was like, just do this for me, Joe. Just get on a song with her so she could kind of get herself going. And he was like. He was like, no problem. I'll write it. We'll write it for her. We'll get her in the studio. A week later, my daughter's like, dad, I don't want to do it. I was like, man, come on.
Onplus Nicotine Advertiser
Oh, man.
Mike Bibby
She was nervous. But then, like, three weeks passed, and she was like, dad, I want to do. I said. I said, me. I already told him you didn't want to do it. It's out the window, so I can't do it. But I didn't rough him up. He put. He putting a lot on. He Putting 10 on the roughing up.
Joe Johnson
Okay. All right.
Mike Bibby
Hey.
Joe Johnson
Hey, B. Appreciate it, bro. Appreciate you for joining us.
Mike Bibby
Appreciate it. I'm gonna have you. I'm having both y' all on on my straight game podcast, so when I get one. Come on, Joe. I ain't never heard you. I never seen you answer the phone so quick today. That rang once.
Jamal Crawford
I've been telling people I told you, but. Yeah, but I answer that phone that.
Joe Johnson
I was like, look at the phone
Mike Bibby
to see if they hung up. If you're like, whatever.
Joe Johnson
Hey, hey, you gotta chill. Hey, Bill, you gotta chill. Hey, Bill. Appreciate you, bro.
Mike Bibby
See, I love y' all to death, man.
Joe Johnson
Yes, sir. Love, bro. Hey, Smooth.
Jamal Crawford
What's up, big dog?
Joe Johnson
Boy, I got some news you could use over here. You hear me?
Jamal Crawford
Talk to me.
Joe Johnson
Check this out. Both Luka Doncic and Jayson Tatum lost their superstar co host this summer. Who's under the most pressure next season, man, Luca and J.T. luca lost LeBron.
Amazon Prime Advertiser
J.T.
Joe Johnson
lost J.B. i think.
Jamal Crawford
I think Jason Tatum for sure coming off of that Achilles injury. And then people wanting to see if he can prove it without, you know, JB being on the team.
Joe Johnson
Absolutely.
Jamal Crawford
You know, they. They. You know, he got approved to see. He gotta. He gotta prove him and let. Let people know that. That the organization made it the right decision by keeping him as far as their, their franchise player and you know, and letting JB go. So we gotta see, we gotta see it. I mean, you know, JB's been super healthy.

When you're moving like I do, trips don't always come together weeks in advance. Sometimes production shoots, interviews or something I've got to travel for on a short notice. Like the time when I had the last minute trip to Denver and everything came together fast. Once it was locked in, I had to be ready to go. That's where Amazon prime can make a difference. When something comes together quickly, you can get what you need like grooming essentials, neck pillow, eye mask and even snacks for the flights. So you're ready to show up for it with same day delivery. All those items show up on time and still make the trip. So you can show up and focus on why you're there and not everything around it. Because at that point it's not just about getting there, it's about making the most of the opportunity in front of you. That's what I like about Prime. It makes easy to say yes when the moment shows up. Same day delivery, it's on prime. Available in select areas.

Jamal Crawford
He's played a lot of games.
Joe Johnson
Yeah.
Jamal Crawford
Things for that. For that organization. One of them a championship too. So. And he was. And he was conference and finals mvp. So him being able.
Joe Johnson
So you think it's Tatum?
Jamal Crawford
I definitely think it's Tatum.
Joe Johnson
I think it's Luca. I'm gonna tell you why. Talk to me first off, he playing for the Los Angeles Lakers partner yeah, big time.
Jamal Crawford
You hear me, Celtic pseudo big time.
Joe Johnson
Yeah, yeah, boss. Both of them. Big time. But you know, LA LA hit a little different out there, bro. You know what I mean? He ain't got Brian. We know the weight, you know, playing with LeBron. We know how that is. And I just feel like with him vouching for Austin Reeves to still be around to get paid, saying that he don't want no other free agent outside of Austin Reeves. Yeah, man, that man got a lot of pressure. Hey, hey, hey. Smooth. Cause look, you gotta think about it. In the Western Conference, bro. Not only going to be top heavy, but, bro, you gotta look at the teams. I mean, when you. When I say top heavy, I'm thinking Spurs, okc, Then you Denver, Houston. You know what I mean? Like, hey, man, the Lakers finished. I think they were third. I think they were three seed this past season in the postseason. So I definitely think it's Luca, bro. He gonna have to really show up and show out. He. He gonna have to show us that he's durable enough to be able to make it through a full season, you know, and play in the postseason with extensive minutes and putting on the show. I think. I think it's Luca by far. I ain't gonna lie to you. And look and think about this.
Jamal Crawford
He done made it to the Western Conference finals by himself. So I don't think the pressure too much on him. He done did it. He done did it before with a different organization.
Joe Johnson
He got. Hey, hey. Tatum already got one.
Jamal Crawford
That was by himself. I'm talking about. Luca did. But Tatum hasn't done it by himself.
Joe Johnson
He ain't done it by himself, but he got a ring already. What I'm saying is Luca, he got
Jamal Crawford
one with jb, though.
Joe Johnson
Yeah, I know, but he is on his resume, you know? I mean, Luke ain't got nothing on his resume. He played in the finals, obviously, against the Celtics, but he ain't got no chip. He. If you play for the Lakers, Smooth.
Amazon Prime Advertiser
If you.
Joe Johnson
Him, if you're supposed to be that guy.
Mike Bibby
Yeah.
Joe Johnson
In the LA uniform, you're supposed to bring a title, bro.
Jamal Crawford
Yeah, but the Lakers ain't really been. They ain't been that good lately, though. They just been solid. Like, they. I mean, when LeBron was there, they had. They had a good. They had a good stint. But I'm saying, like, if LeBron didn't go to the Lakers and he went somewhere else, do they even win that championship that they got?
Joe Johnson
Nah, not if they ain't got. I know, I know.
Jamal Crawford
Before before LeBron was there, they was just. They had. Look at it. Look.
Joe Johnson
Look who. They were bad. It was bad.
Jamal Crawford
Bad, bro.
Joe Johnson
It was bad.
Jamal Crawford
It was bad. We talking about the LA Lakers now. They couldn't even beat the. The clip. It was the clip show for a minute.
T-Mobile Advertiser
It.
Jamal Crawford
Yeah, it was bad a long time.
Joe Johnson
Oh, yeah, yeah, you're right.
Jamal Crawford
He revamped it a little. You know, he revamped it a lot. For real. For real.
Mike Bibby
Yeah.
Joe Johnson
No, no. I think Braun did his 1, 2 when he got there. At the end of the day, you come there to win a chip. He won a chip in the bubble. Obviously. People say it's an astrobiot. I don't put no astrobiotic. Hell, we were all going by the same rules. You hear me? So it is what it is. They go down in the history books. Him and AD Brought one home and it. And it was a. It was a good run. With Braun in la, I think he gonna bring that same type of. To Philly and change the trajectory as far as. Because I think. I don't think they won a title. Smooth in Philly. And it probably. If The Knicks was 50 some years, 53 years. The Sixers, it ain't that. It probably ain't that long, but it's been a minute, bro.
Jamal Crawford
Been a minute.
Joe Johnson
In a minute.
Jamal Crawford
Something like that, right?
Joe Johnson
Yeah. Hey, check this out. Brad Stevens has reportedly reached out to the warriors to discuss a potential trade for Steph Curry. Check this out. Smooth. Check this out, huh? He in Boston.
Jamal Crawford
I told you.
Joe Johnson
Hey, hold on, hold on, hold on, hold on. We're gonna get back to that. Hey, there go my guy. What's up, my guy? My guy. Jeremy Pargo, who been lighting it up in the big three, bro. I seen you. You were in the finalist as far as mvp. I watched the whole game the other day. Yesterday, to be exact. He's playing for the ball halls led by Jeremy Pargo and Gary Payton. And I watched y' all play against 305, against Beasley and Lance Stevenson. Hey, bro, I know me and you talk. We talk on a regular. This. This is like a real conversation. Smooth. You know what I'm talking about?
Jeremy Pargo
Absolutely.
Joe Johnson
We talk about the game, we break, but I had to get you on here tonight. Appreciate you for joining Nightcap. The ISO takeover. Me and my boy Smooth. Hey, man.
Jeremy Pargo
Hey, man.
Joe Johnson
Come on, man, tell her what's going on.
Jeremy Pargo
I appreciate you boys having. But you just talking about Brad Stevens called for Steph.
Joe Johnson
Yeah.
Jeremy Pargo
Come on now.
Joe Johnson
Hold on, hold on. Listen, check this out. German.
Jamal Crawford
I told I told you that. I didn't. I say, boss.
Joe Johnson
Hold on, hold on. Brad Stevenson has reportedly reached out to the warriors to discuss a potential trade with Stephon Curry. Proposed to trade package. Y' all hear me out now. It could land Steph Curry. It says, celtics receive Steph Curry. Oh, it don't have in here. Who they. Who they gonna trade?
Jeremy Pargo
They ain't got enough for them.
Joe Johnson
Oh, oh, oh, oh. Paul George, Sam Houser. Two first round picks.
Ashley Iconetti
Yeah.
Joe Johnson
Stephen Tatum. What we talking about?
Jeremy Pargo
It ain't happening.
Joe Johnson
Hold on, hold on, hold on, hold on. How you figure it ain't happening? You.
Jeremy Pargo
You think I'm stay taking that?
Joe Johnson
Yeah, because they. I. I think trying to rebuild Jeremy. What. What else they gonna do? Jeremy, they in the wild, wild west. Would you. What else they gonna do?
Jeremy Pargo
They're in the wild, wild west. They just resigned Dre at a big deal. You're not moving.
Joe Johnson
They gave him a one year.
Jamal Crawford
They gave him one year deal, though.
Jeremy Pargo
Exactly. So it ain't going nowhere this year. They playing ball this year.
Jamal Crawford
They basically saying thank you. Just like, here's your severance.
Joe Johnson
Yeah. Hold on. So you. You, y'. All.
Nicotine Warning Announcer
Y'.
Amazon Prime Advertiser
All.
Joe Johnson
Y' all can't see Steph being traded to Boston?
Mike Bibby
I can see it, bro.
Joe Johnson
I said.
Jamal Crawford
I called. I remember. I said Miami. You said you wanted to see Miami. I said Boston.
Jeremy Pargo
No, I don't see it at all.
Joe Johnson
You don't see it at all?
Onplus Nicotine Advertiser
I don't.
Jeremy Pargo
It's not enough.
Joe Johnson
Okay, okay. Hypothetically speaking, let's say it does happen.
Jeremy Pargo
Okay?
Joe Johnson
Yeah. I got. I got my head to the streets. I kind of. I kind of know a little something. That's all I'm saying. You know what I'm saying? Let's say it does happen. They trade Paul George, Sam Houser. Two first round picks, Tatum and Steph. What y' all think? What that look like, man? The East. What the he's doing. They trying to load up over there.
Jeremy Pargo
Ain't it deep, boy, that he's deep, But I don't see them. Not. No, no, that's not. That's not enough to win the East. Now, when you said Miami, that's different.
Joe Johnson
Hold on. You say it's not enough to win the East. Don't y' all know they. They did go get Mitchell Robinson? Y' all know that, right?
Jamal Crawford
Yeah, so.
Joe Johnson
So they got. They got some. They got some rim protection. They got some reputation. Tatum gonna come back revived because he, you know, he heard all the rumsing about jb and they should be trading him instead of jb. So he gonna come back. He gonna come back ready to play. You mean, tell me if they can, some way, somehow, go get Stefan Curry, that Le Beige brother out there in San Francisco. You mean to tell me that don't make them.
Jeremy Pargo
No, they make him a contender for sure. That's a hell of a contender. But it ain't enough around that to win like you. You going against four dudes that just average 23 and up. I think Brown's at 23. Everybody else is at 28, 27. That is crazy over there.
Joe Johnson
Hey, listen, I don't know about y', all, but I like the movement in the NBA. I like seeing guys, especially our stars, especially the ones who probably gonna be gone in another five years or so. The LeBron's, the KDs, the Stephs, even Westbrook at times, you know what I'm saying? Like, I like to see these guys move around. I. I mean, I know we talk about Cats always being loyal, playing with one team, but. Yeah, man, let's step go and get up out of there, man. You know, come on to the Eastern Conference. I. I wouldn't mind seeing. That's all I'm saying. It's been reported, so. Hell, this guy had to come from somewhere, that's for sure.
Jeremy Pargo
If they blow that thing up. And Golden State, though, it was. This was the year. I don't. I don't think they're gonna do it this year. Next year, maybe.
Joe Johnson
It could be possible. German. It could be possible. Why not get started early, bro? It was the year.
Jeremy Pargo
If they did it this year, then I would understand it for sure.
Joe Johnson
What I'm saying is how many years
Jamal Crawford
left on Jimmy Butler's deal?
Jeremy Pargo
Two or three, because he. He re upped when he got to Golden State. So I think it's. I think it's two at the.
Jamal Crawford
the.
Jeremy Pargo
At the least.
Joe Johnson
Yeah. They just had some unfortunate injuries, bro, with. With Jimmy Butland and Moses Moody, you know, them guys probably gonna be out for show this season, so. I don't know, man. The warriors gonna have to figure it out, but I wouldn't mind seeing Steph and Tatum, bro. You know, hey, that ain't bad.
Jeremy Pargo
Miami. You said Miami. That now? That ring bells?
Joe Johnson
Okay, I got another one for y', all then. The Houston Rockets are considered as a serious destination for Russell Westbrook. Can y' all see Kevin Durant and Westbrook reuniting as teammates after a decade apart? Can y' all see it?
Amazon Prime Advertiser
Smooth.
Mike Bibby
Can you see. Can you see Mr. Fargo at this.
Jeremy Pargo
At this stage of Their careers. Right. No one has anything to prove. Everybody wants to play good basketball. Yeah. Yeah. Y' all play. Y' all older guys as well. So y' all know what it is to be able to play basketball at a. At a high level, at a. At an efficient level. And I think Russ has. Has hit that status now to where he ain't just, you know, going.
Jamal Crawford
He ain't.
Jeremy Pargo
He ain't Russ of 25 years old. And Russ is one of the greatest dudes I've ever met in my life.
Mike Bibby
He is.
Joe Johnson
Dude.
Jeremy Pargo
All the stories about him being a great teammate. I haven't been his teammate, but I know him and been around him a lot, so that's a great dude. I think with him walking into that locker room right now with a. With a common goal of trying to get to a championship and win at this stage, especially older, I think it's a great place for him because they've been four point guard for a long time. So you find Russ, and if Russ is cool with coming off the bench, I don't think you can get a better backup point guard than that.
Joe Johnson
Hell, no. I mean, think about this. You know, you think about all the great times that they had in OKC, and obviously they came up short being up 3:1 against that warriors team. And then KD goes and joined, man, you. They have to think about those times and be like, what if. You know what I mean? What if we would have stayed together? Hell, we probably would at least got one. You feel me? So I wouldn't mind seeing Westbrook team back over KD and Houston, bro. I think he'll bring them a totally different dynamic at that point guard position, because guess what? You know what you're gonna get from him every night. He gonna play hard as. I don't know what he gonna defend. You know what I'm saying? And he understands playmaking, you know what I mean? KD ain't had one. Boom. Let me find. Let me find big fella. Let him get him an easy one. You know what I'm saying? Dump down to. To. To the other big fella. You know, he. I think he makes the game easy for everybody. He just got to keep his turnovers down. If we keeping it 100, I. I think them having.
Jeremy Pargo
Having what's name Back. Fred back will make that easier for Russ. Russ can play with.
Joe Johnson
On the ball, off the ball.
Jeremy Pargo
Him coming off the bench behind Fred, I. I think that's a great spot. I think that's a great spot for Russ. Russ can play basketball in that system. And, and like I said, man, we. We all older. Russ is older now. He don't care about all the other. That he. That that was going on when he was young. Right now, it's about winning and playing basketball the right way.
Joe Johnson
It is, bro. Check this out, though. One NBA scout told Ira Winderman that he wouldn't touch free agent Russell Westbrook in a million years. He said, I. I wouldn't touch him in a million years. You can't rely on him in his terms of what he's. What's going to happen. Yeah, he'll have you in great games, sure, but he can't shoot. He plays his own way. He's not going to fit into a system he doesn't really defend. Which I think what y' all think about him saying that
T-Mobile Advertiser
is different.
Joe Johnson
This guy, our Winderman, I guess he. He'll be writer or reporter or something. It's been reported that he. This is what he said. He said he wouldn't touch him in a minute. He said, I mean, yeah, he'll put up some numbers and he'll win you some games. In terms of truly building winning team, you don't get him on your team. I, I think that's false. I. I think if I'm. I, I agree with what we were talking about. If I'm the Houston Rockets, bro, I'm taking that gamble. I'm taking that gamble. Cause look, think about this. Even if Fred Van Fleet, I'm sure he will start the season, but damn, he just come off of ACL surgery. Y' all gonna run him in the ground for 82 games. And what are you gonna be able to give you in the postseason? Nothing. So you gotta have some depth at that point guard position. Guys who know how to play, guys who know. Who know and understand the game and who can make the game easy for the guys around him. So I always think, bro, and when you look at him. Cause he up in age move. And Pargo, he always in great damn shape. And for me, y' all know me, bro. I'm a guy who loves a guy in great shape. You're in great shape. You can play with me any day. Hey, man, I'm giving that a chance. I ain't gonna lie to you.
Jeremy Pargo
You gotta give it a chance. Because I think he's talking about the young Russell Westbrook that, that had his own team, that Russell Westbrook. If he's still thinking that way, then I can agree with him. But I guarantee you, Russ ain't thinking that way. This man is Showing he's willing to change. He's coming off the bench, bro. This is a Hall of Famer later in his career that's coming off the bench, and he's okay with it. How do you hear people say how much of a great teammate and a great person he is? And you put that on that man name at 30. What's Russ? 38, 37.
Joe Johnson
And it's a real true testament. Smooth and Parko, that his love and passion for the game, bro. You know what I mean? Because at some point, you know, you keep hearing these stories about yourself, people saying these. Creating these false narratives, man, you. You'll throw your hands up like, man, damn, all this. I'm moving around. But he continued to fight and work for his spot, bro. So he got the utmost respect. I got a question, Smooth. What's. What's. What's the beef everybody got with Westbrook, bro? Why everybody. Why everybody be down Russ all the time or talking down on him, bro? What's up? Disrespect. Is he the most. Okay, I asked you this. Is he the most disrespected guy of all times?
Jamal Crawford
I think so, because. Because he, in my eyes, he's top five point guard of all time, man. But what, what, what point guards, you know, that average triple double in multiple seasons, you know what I'm saying?
Joe Johnson
That's hard to do. And then, you know, I think.
Jamal Crawford
I think what it is, is people don't like his demeanor. But how you want. How you want a player or a point guard to play at that position, you know what I'm saying? You want to. You want to. You want a dog with a little. With some swagger at that position.
Joe Johnson
Yeah.
Jamal Crawford
I think he's the most understood basketball player of all time, too. You know what I'm saying? I think he does a great job at being a family man, a husband, you know what I'm saying? What he's doing with his kids, what he's doing for his community. Yeah, I don't know why, man. I mean, it's kind of crazy to me to see the hate when you. When you have all of those things going on on a positive note about yourself. But I don't think. I don't think people like how he answers questions to the media, you know what I'm saying? It's mostly. You gotta think about it. It's mostly the media that tries to paint bad pictures on him. It's not really guys that really know basketball, like, you know, basketball players or like. Like Parko said, teammates that played with him or guys that just crossed path pass with them and. And just got it. Just gotta, you know, a dose of who he is as. As a person in his character. So I don't think that, you know, the media paints a great picture of him, but at the same time, they have to have something to say in order to. It's like clickbait, you know what I'm saying, at the end of the day? So it's like. Like it's a narrative that. That they painted on them. So it's like, why not keep saying it if I'm another reporter? You know what I mean?
Joe Johnson
Right. Right.
Jamal Crawford
It's just like Skip Bayless back in the day, making his. Making his career off of bashing LeBron James. You know what I mean?
Joe Johnson
Yeah. Yeah. Hey. Hey. Cause once that narrative is created and put out there, the damage is done already. You know what I mean? Whether it's true or false. You know what I mean? People gonna kind of run with it. So I. I get what you're saying. I get what you're saying. Jeremy, what you think, bro?
Jamal Crawford
Why.
Joe Johnson
Why everybody be hating on Westbrook, bro?
Jeremy Pargo
It's from back in the day, man, when Russ was. When Russ was the guy, where, you know, when you. The guy, you have a lot more leeway to. To do what you want, say what you want.
Joe Johnson
Yeah.
Jeremy Pargo
And they. They continue to put that on him, but that man doesn't deserve it. That man has literally changed his entire career because it's been guys in the past that's fought about coming off the bench and not want to do this. That man has put his head down and say, I'm going to Sacramento. I'm gonna come off the bench. I'm gonna play for the Clippers. I'm gonna come off the bench and do what I can, help the team win.
Event Promoter
I.
Jeremy Pargo
You can see how he is with young guys. He's helping young guys come along. He's great for your franchise at this point. He's not.
Jamal Crawford
He's not.
Jeremy Pargo
He's not a problem. So I don't understand why people try and pick on him and put that on him. And I am a Westbrook advocate right now. I'm a big fan of what Russ does, especially at this stage of his career, because he's completely changed his game to fit any system in the NBA, any team he can, because he's not going to do too much.
Joe Johnson
I agree. I agree for sure. Oh, yeah.
