He was on the stream, I think tonight talking about teaming up with LeBron. Let's take a listen to what he had to say.
Jalen Brown
Super excited for this upcoming season. Yeah, we got Brian and like what an opportunity that that is, like, obviously, everybody's gonna say whatever they want to say, and it's gonna be a bunch of media this whole entire season. But, like, for me, like, what an opportunity is to learn. Like, one of my favorite things to do is to learn, despite what people may say, despite what people may feel about. My favorite thing to do is to learn. I love learning. So, like, to have the opportunity to learn one from one of the, if not the greatest player of all time, you know, I get an opportunity to, like, on the court, off the court, learn and gather experiences that can accumulate to my own knowledge base.
Shannon Sharpe
Ocho, for the longest time, you've been telling me, you've been telling the chat and Joe and I that he's going to Miami. Are you that the pivot? Because a lot of people said, okay, Miami, it could be Cleveland going home for the final chapter. Dorothy said, in the wi, there's no place like home. There's no place like home. A lot of people now say, well, I. I don't really think. And you hear Draymond say, I don't think Golden State was an option because of Steph and the heated rivalry between the two. But he pivots and he goes to. To. To Philly.
Joe Johnson
Yes.
Shannon Sharpe
What are your thoughts? Not going to Miami. And then are you surprised that he ended up in Philly? And what do we expect from them this year?
Ocho Cinco (Chad Johnson)
Well, well, well, obviously, I'm. I'm not surprised at all. Obviously, me being a. A Florida native, a Miami native, a supporter of the Miami Heat. I always. That Team LeBron being free. I've kind of guessed right. You know, for the most part, when it came to free agency with. With certain players, with Giannis coming here, and I thought. I. I Honestly, I thought LeBron was coming as well. I think one of the things that did hurt us is us not having shooters, not having anyone on the perimeter that can really shoot the ball. I think it's a good decision on LeBron's part, especially at 41, 42 years old, in his 23rd, 24th year in. In the league, in the NBA in general. This is a chance, an opportunity to go to a team where the supporting cast is extremely stellar, where he doesn't have to do that much. I think this is a team where he doesn't have to carry the load. He has Maxi, he had Jalen Brown, he has Eskim, he has Embiid. So that is, like, to me, excuse my reference and analogy and using in. In. In football sense with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, they needed one piece to get over the hump. Coming off one season with. With Joe, when they had James Winston, it was his 30. 30 year, 30 touchdowns with a phenomenal def. But he had 30 interceptions. I think that missing piece to the Philadelphia Sixes, trusting the piece, trusting the process piece that can get them to their end goal is adding LeBron to that team. And this might be the year they do it and come out the East.
Shannon Sharpe
What you think, Joe?
Joe Johnson
Man, listen, I've been telling y' all this since. Since we first heard the rumors when Ocho like, oh, no, you.
Shannon Sharpe
And.
Joe Johnson
And honestly. And honestly, this. The Sixers team wasn't the team that I thought he was going to. But, hey, man, make it make sense for me. When I hear JB come out and speak the way he speaks, saying that he's looking to learn. He kept saying the word learn, man. It says a lot. You know, JB's character has been somewhat assassinated.
Shannon Sharpe
Assassinated.
Joe Johnson
It has been assassinated because of analytics saying that he's not a great player, bro. And I think he fuels that. He's gonna fuel from that, and he's gonna use this season, bro, to. To. To help the Sixers try and win a title. I think LeBron kind of understood that having Maxi, having Edgecombe, having JB, having MB. Damn, man. I could just come out and orchestrate this thing. Oo, you know, I ain't got to do a whole hell of a lot. You know what I mean? So it make a lot of sense to me because we always talk about in the NBA, in order to win. When you look at teams like the Knicks, hell, they beat you in a multitude of ways with a multitude of people. This is what LeBron is looking for. He's looking to go to Philly and like, look, man, I ain't got to be historically great every damn night for us to win a game. I got this Maserati over here. I got this Lambo over here. Hey, man, we're gonna pull all these things out and have a party. You feel me? So I like it. And when those guys buy into whatever it is LeBron selling, bro, Sky's the limit for the Sixes, man. I like it.
Shannon Sharpe
I do, too. I'm happy for him. I'm surprised. You said something very interesting, Joe, about the way the Knicks ended up winning the title. Because OG was. It was OG one night. It was Cat one night. It was Josh Hart one night. It was always a different guy. Now the guy they could constantly count on was Jalen Brunson.
T-Mobile Advertiser
Yes, sir.
Shannon Sharpe
Because when it got clutch time when they were down all those points and somebody else might have helped them get reattached. But that's when Levin took the. I think he's number 11. I think he ended up taking the ball game over. And so now you gotta. We know what Joel Embiid is. He's a, a, a former MVP. We know what JB. JB was 28 points with an all NBA selection. Tyrese Maxey. Back to back, if I'm not mistaken. Back to back years. An all star. Edgecombe is an up and coming player. They have the pieces now fitting around him. Kcp. I think he got a bow. They're going to have to be able to knock down three. Ocho, you mentioned Tom Brady and people like, well, why would he go to Tampa? He. They had two Pro bowl receivers. They had an outstanding defense. Oh yeah, outstanding. Young homie, very hungry, vicious. The same reason Peyton went to the Denver Broncos. Do y' all remember what they had up there?
Joe Johnson
Yes, hello.
Shannon Sharpe
They had demarius Thomas, rest his soul. Eric Decker. Julius Thomas. No. Sean Marino. They had Yvonne Miller. They had Chris Harris Jr. They had Bradley, had Bradley Roby. Now they got to add some other pieces. They go next year, they'll go get a DeMarcus Ware. They go get a keep to leave and you see what happens. MVP for Peyton Manning. They get to the super bowl, they get thrashed and two bowl 48 against the Seahawks. But they come back in 50 and they win it. Win it all. So I'm happy for him. This seemed. Look, he's like. But I don't get what I don't get. This is what I don't get. Guys, I need y' all to help me because I happen to be on Fox. When LeBron went to went to LA. Yeah, damn near to a man. He didn't go to LA to catch Michael Jordan. He went to be Michael B. Jordan. He went to retire. He's in LA LA Land. No way you thought this man could win a championship with the pieces that they had in la. And they killed him. Chad, you know I'm telling the truth.
Joe Johnson
Facts.
Shannon Sharpe
That's what everybody said. He didn't go to catch Michael Jordan. He went to catch Michael B. Jordan. Now he goes to a team that have pieces that have really good players. Oh, he ring chasing.
Joe Johnson
Yeah.
Shannon Sharpe
I need y' all to make it make sense. I need y' all to pick a side and whatever side you decide to stay on, I'm cool with it. But the very people that said he wasn't trying to win so what is he supposed to do now? You said if LeBron was serious about winning, he would take less money. Well, how much more less money is 4, is $4 million. You want him to play for free? I don't think the NBA let him play for free. But $4 million compared to where he, what he was making. Now it's reported that the clippers offered him one year deal, $20 million. He's like, Nah, I don't want that. Maybe they could have cleared out 15 million for the Warriors. Maybe they could have got a little mid level exception for the, for the Miami Heat, I don't know. But all I know is he says he believes that he's a, he can be a piece to a winning a championship. All the people that said the very reason that he went to LA wasn't to win. You criticize him now that he goes back to Philly with a chance to win. You know, nobody thought Philly was stacked until he joined them. Yeah, you know, you haven't noticed that? Yeah, hey now. Hey. I'm like, well damn, it's like I was always, well, Shannon, you can't play. Why can't I play? Because you make the team uneven. Well, damn, how I made the team. I'm 10 just like you, right? LeBron makes the team uneasy. A 42 year old, really? A 42 year old Joe, I thought he wasn't any good.
Joe Johnson
Nah, nah, come on, you, y' all see how that man take care of himself? How he in the gym every damn morning? Come on, man, that man, he playing for something too. He playing for his legacy. He know going to Philly, hell, they ain't wanted. How long, how long?
Shannon Sharpe
It's been 43 years. 1983, they swept the Lakers.
Joe Johnson
43 years. So you know, Brian got that and be like, man, look, I take this franchise, oo, I take this franchise, the Sixers to the top, we get to the mountaintop and win. Come on, man, I ain't got to catch mj, you know what I'm saying? But I've done something that, that, that,
Shannon Sharpe
that no other guy that he would have won a championship with. Joe, huh? This would be the 4 of TE. If he went to win, if he were to win a championship, it would be the fourth team, Miami, Cleveland, Lakers. Now the Sixers. Now Cleveland had never won a championship. He helped get them one.
Joe Johnson
And that's the time, the last time
Shannon Sharpe
the, the Heat had won a championship, about seven years. Last time the Lakers had won a championship, it was what, 10, so 10 years. And now we're talking about 43 years. But if you remember the year before, in 82 they had lost to the Lakers. They come back, they get mo. Mo said 444abby. Damn 444. He got him up out of when you're moving like I do, trips don't always come together weeks in advance. Sometimes production shoots, interviews or something I've got to travel for on a short notice. Hey, it's Angela Yee from Lip Service. In a special mini episode, we're talking about why open, honest convers from relationships and identity to sexual health and HIV prevention. Because when we stop treating these topics like taboos, we give ourselves permission to take control of our health and live more openly. I felt like in our community we weren't having these open and honest conversations about sex with no stigma attached to it. A lot of times people could feel like embarrassed to talk about things like sexual preferences about stuff STIs, what we're doing in the bedroom. And I didn't want to feel like that was taboo for us to be able to do. And so that's really the reason why I started Lip Service. And I think for all of us, we have to take control of knowing that we care about our health more than anybody else ever will. You can listen to this special episode of Lip Service sponsored by Care for the Culture from Gilead sciences on the iHeartRadio app or wherever you get your podcasts.

Yeah, you know the funny thing too Joe, you, you mentioned, you mentioned his legacy. I think LeBron actually going to Philly. Let's, let's just say he doesn't happen to win a championship and things don't go the way we think they may go. As far as his legacy is concerned, it's, it's cemented at this point, Uncle Joe, it's cement. I don't think he can do no wrong. There's nothing that can tarnish his legacy.
Joe Johnson
He can add to it.
Ocho Cinco (Chad Johnson)
Oo minute in history. He, he can add to it, but he can't do anything to actually harm it. Obviously, I want him. I want him to come here in Miami, understand the pieces that are missing for him to have a chance to. I mean. No, listen, listen, I understand the pieces that are missing here in Miami. You know, thinking about it being too much, too much on him not having the extras needed, you know, to be able to do what he needed to do down here in Miami. I'm happy. I'm happy for him. I'm not happy for him, but I'm happy for him.
Shannon Sharpe
But help me understand, Joe. And you, you, you, you played the game. Why is it that him going to Philly and not winning a championship would harm his legacy, but Michael Jordan going to Washington did nothing hard? Oh, he was just going to have fun. He just wanted to play, you see. So let me ask you a question. Had he won a championship, would he have turned it down? What would you have said? Michael Jordan goes to, to Washington, wins seven. He's 7 0. Yeah, that's what would have been said.
Joe Johnson
Yeah, yeah.
Shannon Sharpe
I'm not making this up. See, what. Hey, there, there's, there's Benefit and Ocho. I had, we had this discussion when we first started the show. I said, and I said, ocho, at some point in time, you realize the only thing left to do is to get old.
Joe Johnson
Yeah.
Shannon Sharpe
Being 58 years of age and really understanding the game of basketball and seeing the, the trans. The, the transformation of it. I'm old enough to remember. Yeah, I'm old enough to remember. And we're gonna address the topic in a second about LeBron and Jalen Rose, what he had to say. But I just don't. I just need people to help me understand. What is it about this man that rubs you so wrong, that upset so many? We've never seen it. We've never seen a more polarizing figure. At once upon a time, I thought it was Tim Tebow, but this is Tim T. Rowe. Tim Tebow on steroids, growth hormone, insulin, decaduable, and sustenance. All that.
Ocho Cinco (Chad Johnson)
Well, listen, the question you just asked is the reason why they don't like him. The question you just asked, why don't they. Because we've never seen it before, Joe. Because the expectations that he had on his shoulders coming out of high school, many people thought he Wouldn't be able to maintain it, let alone exceed him the way he has. He superseded everything, not only his own personal goals, hell, everyone else's. Everyone else's expectations on the outside looking in, he exceeded theirs as well. So the only thing left to do is for those, they got to find something wrong with it. They got to. And every time they throw something at him, he come back with something else. And he's still going at this age, still playing quality basketball at his age, still one of the best in the game at his age. Of course, people aren't gonna like that. And the funny thing about it is most of the hating, some of the hate is coming from those that played on the same type of hardwood he did.
Joe Johnson
Yeah, it's tough, you know, I. I think. I think he's gonna supersede the expectations, man. I think Brian understands and knows Ocho, that, man, this come with the territory, bro. You know what I'm saying? Like this just another stepping stone in the right direction and trying to make it a part of history. Going. Going to Philly is definitely a risk, but I think it's the risk that he's willing to take knowing and understanding that, man, at that point guard spot, Ocho, you got to have a guard, bro, who gonna be able to get money. That's. That's the most value position in basketball right now. Just like football is a quarterback. If you ain't got no good quarterback, hell, it's gonna be hard to win. Just like in basketball, man, if. Yo, if your point guard can't get money, control both ends of the floor at some point, man, it's going to be hard to win in this league nowadays.
Shannon Sharpe
Yeah, Joe, you said something. I heard you while I was off camera. You said he understands that comes with the territory. Tell me, in the history of the sport, a man that's faced this level of visceral when he's been this good, had nothing off the field as far as we. He hasn't been in the blotter. He hasn't got a dui. He's been exemplary, as far as we know, off the field, off the court. Married to his high school, been together since the eighth grade, raising three beautiful kids. I just need somebody to tell me. I just need. I need somebody in the chat. Tell me what it is. Tell me, the man that wasn't caught, he just played. Tell me, what is it about him that elicits such a. A reaction, be it good or bad, with this man.
Ocho Cinco (Chad Johnson)
Listen, I can't, I can't.
Joe Johnson
It's the admiration. It's the longevity. People tired of hitting. People tired of the glazing, bro. They tired of the glazing of LeBron. That's what they call it. They tired of it. You know what I mean? When you've been great for so long, at some point, man, they gonna start throwing sticks.
Shannon Sharpe
Let me ask you a question.
Joe Johnson
Tell me the time that.
Shannon Sharpe
Do you remember? Do you understand people been glazing Michael Jordan since the shoe came out?
Joe Johnson
Yeah.
Shannon Sharpe
84.
Joe Johnson
Yeah.
Shannon Sharpe
We talk about 42 years.
Ocho Cinco (Chad Johnson)
Yes, sir.
Shannon Sharpe
We're talking about 42 years.
Ocho Cinco (Chad Johnson)
Yeah. But you gotta understand, Jordan has been a standard with no comparison. With no comparison. There was nothing to compare to it. Therefore, glazing in. In appreciating what Michael had done over the years, not only on the court, but off the court, culturally, what he's done. Yes, for us, culturally, you know, in general. So it's kind of different now. Someone has come along that is comparable that to that of Michael Jordan and what he's done on the court. Now, you have issues. Now you splitting the committee up of those who enjoyed the game of basketball. So they're. They're gonna nitpick every. It. Any in which way they can when it comes to those.
Shannon Sharpe
But LeBron's game is so. You know what, Jo?
Ocho Cinco (Chad Johnson)
Completely different.
Shannon Sharpe
If he. They didn't get mad at Kobe, who basically copied. He's a facsimile of Jordan.
Joe Johnson
Yeah.
Shannon Sharpe
If. If LeBron had did that, I was like, bro, come on now. If he had did what I did to my brother, Everything that my brother did, I did. He had.
T-Mobile Representative
Did.
Shannon Sharpe
I said, come on now. LeBron, damn his game. The only thing that he got. Well, two things. He got the number and he got the powder toss. But he. Jordan, didn't throw the powder toss. I think he just patted in his hand like this. Now, he might have. I mean, people didn't. People didn't put it on it like. Like they do now.
Bobcat Advertiser
They.
Shannon Sharpe
If you got a celebration, they got 15. These guys got 15 handshakes. They got a handshake with every guy they got a handshake with the day. The. The camera lady, they got a handshake with. I'm like, well, damn. How y' all remember all this? Hey, hey, that's.
T-Mobile Customer
Bruh.
Joe Johnson
Hell, bro. Started all that. Oh, he started all that. He dab up the dude. The security dude at the damn front,
Shannon Sharpe
though, when he come back before he come in, the dude, the dude at the desk, he dapping him up. Hey, we had one thing. Denver, my house salute. Okay, get it, Go cook. That's all we got for you. But I just think the thing is I. I believe that we could appreciate. Because you like Michael Jordan, that doesn't mean you have to hate Kobe or LeBron or any other. Because you like LeBron, that doesn't mean you have to dislike. And it took me a while to, to get that because I get this a lot when people say, and Joe, we was having a conversation. We had a conversation. When I told you call you the other day and a couple of days and Taylor, how great a job you were doing. I said, joe, I had to get out of this Ocho of when somebody gave their opinion, they asked, okay, that's his list. That's his list. When people ask me, what's your favorite food? I like chicken breast. Chicken breast diet. You don't like no ribs. You don't like. Bro, I can't kill nobody. I said, that's mine. So you can have you. But just because I like chicken breast, that doesn't mean I gotta poop on oxtails or ribs, right? Lobster or shrimp. I can't eat shellfish. I'm allergic. But. But that's, that's all I'm saying. We've never seen in the history of the game. And I go back, the first championship I can remember was the 76ers playing the Portland Trailblazers. Philly got out to a two old lead. The Portland Trailblazers, Big Bill wrote and Big Red. Dr. Jack Ramsey was the head coach. They had Lionel Holland, a few other guys, but those were the two main. Two main guys. So I, I go back that far, that's 50 years. That's 50. I remember that. I've never seen it. And all the years I remember when I remember when NBA was on cbs, Bill Russell was calling games. How many of y' all remember that? You remember Bill Russell was calling game? Joe.
Joe Johnson
Nah, I don't. I ain't gonna even lie to you, Casey.
Shannon Sharpe
Joe.
Advertisement Disclaimer Voice
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Shannon Sharpe
They call games. Yeah, all them.
T-Mobile Representative
Yeah.
Joe Johnson
I ain't know that.
Shannon Sharpe
Then it went, then it went to NBC. Marv Apple was play by play. Bill Costas, Peter Vessi was on the sideline. Ahmad Rashad. Not one person. One person. Nobody has had a relationship with a player like Amar Rashad had with Michael Jordan.
Joe Johnson
Hello, Michael.
Shannon Sharpe
Not one person ever said he glazed. Not one person ever said he was on the play payroll. Not one person. Now, if you like a player, you're on the payroll. What he said about chat.
Joe Johnson
Hey, and. And it's because how we Ingest the information and how we see everything. And today the media is different. It wasn't that much. Damn. You couldn't only see that on the Amar Rashad show or, you know what
Shannon Sharpe
I mean, on the Sunday. On the Sunday game of the week,
Joe Johnson
you know what I mean? Now we in just so much, bro. Like, and, and I feel like media is at the. At an all time high with a lot, with a lot of former athletes. You know, giving back.
Shannon Sharpe
That's a good thing, Joe.
Joe Johnson
No, it is. I know. That's what I'm saying.
Shannon Sharpe
So many more. Because there are so many more outlets, Joe. There's so many more opportunities for you to get revenue. Back then, there was only one place.
Joe Johnson
There you go. There you go. So you got so many people.
Shannon Sharpe
It's.
Joe Johnson
It's a lot of people with different opinions.
Shannon Sharpe
And that is your opinion. But let me ask you a question. When did this. So what were Michael Jordan fans called? Were they called fans or were they called stands? What was Kobe fans called? Were they called fans or they called stands? What was Magic Johnson, Larry bird, Hakeem Elijah 1. Charles Barkley, Dr. J. What were their fans called? Were they called fans or what they call Stan? Joe, I thought to you first.
Joe Johnson
No, what were they called? Fans or stands?
Shannon Sharpe
Yes.
Joe Johnson
Yeah, they were called fans.
Ocho Cinco (Chad Johnson)
Yeah, I got it, I got it, I got it, I got it.
Shannon Sharpe
Oo. What did they call LeBron fans?
Ocho Cinco (Chad Johnson)
Okay. I mean, obviously stands right now, you got to understand, culturally, the lingo has changed since then. So back then, Larry Bird, Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson, they had fans. Now, you know, we. We've ushered in a new generation that has changed the way we talk. They change the dialogue.
Shannon Sharpe
Oh, I know what it was. They weren't saying nobody. Oh, you jockeying that man.
Ocho Cinco (Chad Johnson)
Get out that man joke.
Shannon Sharpe
Yeah, that go back. Way back. So, okay, because you said the lingo change.
Bobcat Advertiser
Yeah.
Shannon Sharpe
So back then it was called yes. So who said you jockeying Jordan? Who said you jocking Kobe? Who said you jockey Magic or Larry? I'm glad you did that, Ocho. Hey, Joe. See, that's what you gotta do sometimes. You gotta open the door. Cause Ocho don't wanna. Don't want to open the door.
Joe Johnson
Yeah, so I gotta.
Shannon Sharpe
I gotta kind of nudge it.
Joe Johnson
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Shannon Sharpe
I gotta try to nudge it. I'm glad you said that.
Jalen Brown
Yeah.
Shannon Sharpe
That's all I'm saying. You can look. I. Bro, y' all see all them damn Jordan shoes I got?
Joe Johnson
Yeah, yeah.
Shannon Sharpe
Y' all see all them Kobe shoes I got? I love Them all. I. I do believe. I do believe I can appreciate LeBron. I can appreciate Kobe. I can appreciate Jordan. I believe that. Now you got who you believe is the goat. That's an argument that's never going to be decided. They never got an opportunity to play each other. Jordan says it's not fair for him to save him to go. Because I didn't play against, you know, some of the Bill Russells. I didn't play against the Wilt Chambers, I didn't play against some of those guys, and some of the guys that's going to come along didn't play against me, and some of the guys didn't play against LeBron and so forth and so on. So I get it. I get what he's saying. It's hard to transfer errors because things are different. Technology is different. Ocho is different. Now. Guys. Guys are able to train and all these. You see that $175 million facility the Broncos just built, Ocho?
Joe Johnson
Ooh, I see it.
Shannon Sharpe
175. They got. They got an Olympic size cold plunge.
Ocho Cinco (Chad Johnson)
They gotta.
Shannon Sharpe
They gotta. They. They. The locker room, Ocho. 102 seats. You can only have 53 guys on the roster with another 15, so at most you can have a 70. They got an extra 30 seats up in there.
Ocho Cinco (Chad Johnson)
Oh, yeah, absolutely.
Shannon Sharpe
They got a full bar to just walk out. I'm like, oh, my God. I said, man, I'd have never left there, Ocho. I'd have been like, you, Ocho. I'd have been staying in the facility. I ain't got a. I ain't paying no 14, 1500amonth for no rent. I'm staying right. Staying my black ass right here.
Ocho Cinco (Chad Johnson)
And listen, one thing, not to go up, not to go off topic when we talk about upgrades and. And what. What teams have done to improve their facilities. I had opportunity, obviously, while I was off, being that I had to work. I had to work in working Carolina, Uncle. I had an opportunity to go to the Panthers practice. I was able to see the Panther facility, man. Mr. Tepper, man, what he did in putting that facility for those players, you know, for. For the amenities that they have. Hey, Joe. I ain't never seen nothing like that, Joe. I thought the Bengals was. Was stated.
Shannon Sharpe
No, you didn't.
Ocho Cinco (Chad Johnson)
Which. Which it is. No, no, hey, listen to me. No, hey, all jokes aside, I'm not talking about the old bangles. I'm talking about the new bangles and what they did. It's. It's crazy. So then I go to the Panthers. They got the same stuff the Bengals got. They've added all this stuff that I think for us, Unk. I mean, it would have been great to have at the time, but in a sense, I don't think we needed all that. The red light therapy, the saunas. I do therapists.
Joe Johnson
You don't think we need it?
Ocho Cinco (Chad Johnson)
Hey, Joe, listen, they got the mini. They listen. The mini nutrition bars, the shakes and the vanillas and the fruit. And then I go to Chicago, Joe. Two days ago I was in Chicago. I went to Chicago practice, man. Who's the owner of the bears?
Shannon Sharpe
Ms. Hallis. The Hallas is founded the Bears. He passed it to his daughter, Virginia McCaskey. She passed away. It's her son, but it's still in the family. So the McCaskey.
Ocho Cinco (Chad Johnson)
Well, I tell you what. Hey, the McCaskeys, boy, they did one hell of a job over there too, Uncle.
Joe Johnson
Yeah.

You hear me?
Ocho Cinco (Chad Johnson)
With the facilities, with the amenities, the practice field. I'm dog. It. It. It's ridiculous. At this point. I understand it is the NFL, right? But based on what I used to say.
Shannon Sharpe
Oh, yeah, it's different.
Ocho Cinco (Chad Johnson)
And upgrades that they have now. Think about your high school. When the last time you been to your high school?
Shannon Sharpe
My high school doesn't exist anymore. They merged the two.
Ocho Cinco (Chad Johnson)
Oh, yeah, but Joe, think about your high school. Joe. Does it look the same way it did when you. When you were there?
Joe Johnson
It's historic, Ocho. It's HBO special on Little Rock Central. Look it up. But you can keep going though.
Ocho Cinco (Chad Johnson)
So they, they, they make.
Joe Johnson
No, they added some stuff like they added this big field house. I get where you're going, though. I get where you're going.
Ocho Cinco (Chad Johnson)
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Bobcat Advertiser
Hey.
Ocho Cinco (Chad Johnson)
Hey, boy. Hey, I'm somebody look good. Hey, it look good.
Shannon Sharpe
I went back to my high school. I said, damn, these seats small. I fit my. I forgot I don't got big.
Advertisement Disclaimer Voice
Okay.
Shannon Sharpe
I went back to my college. I'm like, how did I sleep my big ass on this twin bed? I like what?
Tony Ayo
Damn.
Joe Johnson
Yeah, yeah.
Shannon Sharpe
But. Yeah, the thing is different now. In Carolina, I only played in Carolina. I played preseason games, Ocho and Joe, I never played a regular season. Yeah, that field, man, that grass is packed. It's great.
Joe Johnson
They.
Shannon Sharpe
I don't know if they still got natural grass, Ocho, but that grass was about. You talk about speed track, Ocho. You talk about a speed track.
Joe Johnson
Yeah, yeah, man. Listen, I. When I had Teague on here past few days ago, you know, he talking about. He referred to Atlanta Hawks practice facility. The country Club, man.
Shannon Sharpe
It's nice.
Joe Johnson
Oh, my God.
Shannon Sharpe
Over there. Over there by Emory.
Ocho Cinco (Chad Johnson)
Oh, it's like that, Joe.
Shannon Sharpe
Yeah, it's nice. It absolutely.
Joe Johnson
Hey, hey, hey, hey. I got me a little key card to go in there and get me some work in too. Hell, man.
Ocho Cinco (Chad Johnson)
Hey, Joe, you.
Nicotine Warning Announcer
You.
Ocho Cinco (Chad Johnson)
They still give you access like that?
Joe Johnson
Get some access, Ocho. You know, you see, Uncle Nocho, when I was playing, that was. That was my thing. Like, if I couldn't sleep at night, bro, I go to the gym at 2 in the morning. You know what I mean? Get some shots up. Use your key card. Like, you know, just give it to me.
Shannon Sharpe
If I could sleep at night, I get a mean one. Go right to some sleep.
Joe Johnson
Oh, man. Come on, man.
Shannon Sharpe
That's a sleeping pill for me. That's ambient. Hey, how
Joe Johnson
n. Hey, I.
Shannon Sharpe
Hey, all I had to do was free. Willie. Willie will all up. I'm free. Will it.
Ocho Cinco (Chad Johnson)
That's it. That's it. Hey, I'm. Hey, listen. Hey, hey, hey, uncle, I'm with you right now.
Shannon Sharpe
I don't know what on y'. All. Yeah, yeah, he gonna go get some shots up. I'm gonna give a shot in. I don't know about. I'm gonna get it in, though,
Ocho Cinco (Chad Johnson)
you know. You know what? See, you know what? You know what's funny too. And you think about the difference in sports, Uncle Joe. See, if we can't sleep at night, uncle, there's really nothing we could do at 2 in the morning. We can't go to the vicinity. See, but with basketball, it's a little easier, Joe. You can get up and go get some shots in, you know, you inside the gym.
Joe Johnson
No, I.
Ocho Cinco (Chad Johnson)
Football wise, hold up.
Joe Johnson
But it ain't even just getting shots here. You might just want to go in there and sit in the hot tub, sit in the Jacuzzi, get in the whirlpool. Hey, you never know. You. You know what I mean?
Shannon Sharpe
Oo. I want to be in something hot. It ain't no Jacuzzi.
Joe Johnson
Yeah, yeah. Oh, yeah.
Shannon Sharpe
I don't know what. I don't know what type of time Joe on, but bless his heart. Chat.
Joe Johnson
Bless. Anytime, anytime. When. You know, the holidays and my family used to come down to Atlanta and everybody, man, we will all go to the practice facility on like, Christmas after everybody opened up gifts and we a hoop and man, it was just. It's just. It's just stuff like that, bro, that you know you. When you look back at them, like, damn, we had some great times.
Shannon Sharpe
Yeah. Hey, hey, I ain't need no holiday to open up something. Been a while chat y' all can tell I've been away from y' all for a while so I'm just getting. You know, I'm getting back in the get back in this league of thing. Yeah, he opened up some presents bad look here yeah boy what's upon a time when I was hell without well Joe yeah crack leg like humpty Dumpty
Joe Johnson
Mean demonstration hey ah mean demonstration when
Shannon Sharpe
I was in my 20s Joe.
Ocho Cinco (Chad Johnson)
I already know hey hey listen I'm
Shannon Sharpe
with you when you're right Joe 20 oh with all that test drone I had hey what a grandma told please hey wool and wool and make your head pop off yeah French fries French fry said she ain't got nothing to say to you, man. Joe, let me ask you this. You think Philly can win it all?
Joe Johnson
Yes, I do think Philly can win it all. I think. What's going to determine Philly's fate, okay, Ocho, is. I mean, it's health, bro. We can't. We can't ignore that. I mean, hell, we. We gotta hope and be. Stay healthy. We gotta hope. You know, obviously Bronze. They healthy. You know, with him being up in age. French fry. What's up, baby?
Shannon Sharpe
French Fry.
Ocho Cinco (Chad Johnson)
Hey, what's up? Say hi.
Shannon Sharpe
You don't got big.
Nicotine Warning Announcer
Daddy.
Ocho Cinco (Chad Johnson)
Yeah. See all the hair? So you got more hair than mommy? Because mommy ball head.
Shannon Sharpe
No, don't say that. Don't say that. French fries. See mommy got lots of hair, man. You know, man, you know what you call a watching man, Ocho.
Ocho Cinco (Chad Johnson)
Don't worry about it.
Shannon Sharpe
Yeah, now we're gonna keep it. We worried about it.
Joe Johnson
He wants. He wants to stand something up right now.
Shannon Sharpe
Yeah. Yeah. He always on some bull jive.
Joe Johnson
Hey, coming off vacation here. A little spicy, but yeah.
Ocho Cinco (Chad Johnson)
If.
Shannon Sharpe
If. Bad joke. Somebody just said this. Chad say unc number one, shade number two, and shadow number three.
Joe Johnson
They ain't lying.
Shannon Sharpe
All the spots.
Joe Johnson
Yeah, they ain't lying. But. But that's okay, though. We ain't. We.
Shannon Sharpe
We don't.
Joe Johnson
We don't put no judgment on you.
Shannon Sharpe
And it don't matter no bad brother. You ain't no bad brother. Because of that.
Joe Johnson
Yeah, man. It is what it is.
Shannon Sharpe
Hey, Jayla Rose also has some thoughts. He said NBA coverage has become so weak. Weak. Excuse me. Is now led by men, women who didn't play, or LeBron, Stan's former teammates. Joe, what's your take?
Joe Johnson
He said that the take on. Say it again, Embry.
Shannon Sharpe
He says NBA coverage has become so weak. Is now led by men, women who didn't play or Lebron stands or former teammates.
Joe Johnson
Nah, I think it is some of his former teammates. But you got a lot of ex professional basketball players who's played the game at a high level, who's won championships here, who's won championship.
Shannon Sharpe
When you're moving like I do, trips don't always come together weeks in advance. Sometimes production shoots, interviews or something I've got to travel for on a short notice. Like the time when I had the last minute trip to Denver and and everything came together fast. Once it was locked in, I had to be ready to go. That's where Amazon prime can make a difference. When something comes together quickly, you can get what you need like grooming essentials, neck pillows, eye mask, even snacks for the flights so you're ready to show up for it with same day delivery. All those items show up on time and still make the trip. So you can show up and focus on why you're there and not everything around it. Because at that point it's not just about getting there, it's about making the most of the opportunity in front of you. That's what I like about Prime. It makes easy to say yes when the moment shows up. Same day delivery. It's on Prime Available in select areas. Terms apply. Visit Amazon.comprime to find millions of items delivered fast.

And they know what it takes to get to the top. So, you know, they, they, they got. They breakdowns and critiques of. You know the game just as well as anybody else, bro. You know what I mean? I. I don't think it, I don't think it's a bad thing because you
Shannon Sharpe
ain't played the game.
Joe Johnson
You can't commentate the game or you ain't if you got knowledge of the game, you know what I'm saying? And you and you know what the eye test tells you? You know what I mean? You've done your homework on the game. I don't see nothing wrong with that, bro. So. But maybe he looking through a different lens, Uncle Ocho.
Shannon Sharpe
Some of the best. Some of the best coaches, some of the best people to analyze games weren't your best players.
Joe Johnson
Right.
Shannon Sharpe
See this notion, Everybody that play. Everybody that played a particular sport that was great, that doesn't mean they can talk about it.
Joe Johnson
Hello.
Shannon Sharpe
We've seen that. We've seen some of the NFL's best players. We've seen some of the NBA's best players. We've seen some of the best MLB players. Can't talk the game of football. Can't talk the game of baseball. Can't talk to and talk it. When I say talk it, put it in a context. The casual, the late fan, not the hardened fans. Because the thing that people fail to realize is the casual fans that spend their money.
Joe Johnson
Yeah.
Shannon Sharpe
Regardless of the sport, it's the casual. And put it in a term that they can understand.
Ocho Cinco (Chad Johnson)
Yeah. I think what makes it so difficult is those that played the game, that played it, especially at a very high level, most of them can't explain it. No, most can't. Most of them can't explain it. That's a skill in itself. Not only to be able to play it at a high level, but to be able to sit there on camera and explain it and break it down in a way that not just those that do play it, but those that don't play it understand exactly what you're talking about. That's. That's very difficult to do.
Shannon Sharpe
Think about it. One of the best football color guys is who? John Madden.
Joe Johnson
Yeah.
Shannon Sharpe
Very. Simplicity.
Joe Johnson
Yes.
Shannon Sharpe
You gotta pull here. You gotta pull here. You. He's circling sweat. Boom, boom, boom. They loved it. How many Emmys did he win? Charles never goes to the board. How many Grammys have Charles won? Because at the end of the day when y' all want to get down to those heart, it's still the fans want to be entertained and boom. Encircling sweat and pulling here and this guy there. Charles making those comments about people in San Antonio or this one or that one or this guy right here, they going fishing. I bet you the highest segment is when they do the Gone fishing. I bet you the highest segment is when Shaq Hey. Shacked in the fool. I bet you the highest segment if Shaq went to. Charles is cracking jokes about certain demographics in certain areas. The casual fan can't. The casual Fan doesn't understand what a pin down is, what a one, four, what a nail is.
Joe Johnson
Right. Right.
Shannon Sharpe
What a flare, what a floppy. They don't. Under the dunker spot. They don't understand. So why would you try to put that on them? Because you want to show how intelligent you are. What I look like? What I look like. Say, Ocho, here's the situation here. They in cover six. As a matter of fact, they in six kick with an underfro.
Ocho Cinco (Chad Johnson)
Yeah.
Shannon Sharpe
What front, If you think about it. Oh, what did it. What? What do fans know? They know. Too deep. They know, man. Yeah. There's so many coverages in between. Yeah, man. And cover, too. There's so many more coverages.
Ocho Cinco (Chad Johnson)
Yeah, yeah. It's a small percentage, I do understand, that haven't played the game, but that percentage is small.
Joe Johnson
Yeah.
Ocho Cinco (Chad Johnson)
Yes.
Shannon Sharpe
That's been observing the game and that's. That's that he wants to understand. So when you hear people talk, he wants to know, oh, that guy was in a wide nine. Oh, he was in a cowboy. Oh, he's in a seven. He's in a fire tech. Oh, he's in a three. He's in the under. He's in a. He's in a tilt. Oh, they ran a text, they ran a wex. They ran an et A te Ocho. Come on. The general rule of thumb, Joe Ocho, K, I S S. Keep it simple. Stupid.
Ocho Cinco (Chad Johnson)
That's it.
Shannon Sharpe
I like the fact that there's so many more platforms and it gives so many more guys an opportunity. And normally when guys don't pan out, they move on and give somebody else an opportunity. I just want to know what he. What he wants the coverage gonna be. Because if you just don't exit the nose, ain't nobody tuning in for that. Anybody tuning in for that. What you think, Joe?
Joe Johnson
We talking about what Jalen Rose talking about, right?
Shannon Sharpe
Yes.
Joe Johnson
Yeah, I said that. I think people who hadn't played the game before still can be knowledgeable of the game as well and still commentate the game, talk about the game and give great takes. I don't think you necessarily have to be a ex professional athlete. There are some people who are really, really great at what they do really good and they study and they do their damn homework and they break it down to the T.
Shannon Sharpe
Look, Mark, I thought Mark Jackson was exemplary. Mark Jackson was not the greatest point guard to play, but his analysis of the game was spot on.
Joe Johnson
Oh, man.
Shannon Sharpe
Jeff Van Gundy wasn't the best coach, but he did a damn good job. Hubie Brown did a damn good job.
Joe Johnson
Yeah, them some great ones.
Shannon Sharpe
Boy, it's, it's, it's. It's. To game is harder than. Than studio, because studio, you're talking about what has happened or what you think will happen. A color is in real time, and you only got, like, three seconds.
Joe Johnson
Yeah.
Shannon Sharpe
So at least in football, Ocho, they're gonna go back to the huddle and give you an opportunity to talk. In basketball, they get it out of there. You can't. Hey, you can't explain too long where that play was. Hell, they pushing the ball back up the court.
Ocho Cinco (Chad Johnson)
Right.
Shannon Sharpe
So I, I just. I. I just need. I just need. Jro. Hey, jro, you know, you welcome to come on anytime you like, bro. I was in Denver when J. Ro got there, kicked it a few times. He a great guy. He's very knowledgeable about the game of basketball. I think he wants. He wants more X's and O's and less entertainment in. In the analysis.
Joe Johnson
Yeah.
Shannon Sharpe
If I were to do. But jro, you know, you're welcome to come on anytime. Hit me up. You got my number. As a matter of fact, I'm gonna hit you up tomorrow and try to get you on Wednesday so you can provide more context to what you said. Because I think it's kind of unfair
Angela Yee
for. For.
Shannon Sharpe
And I had. I mean, I wanted to comment on it, but I think it's unfair without you from out. Sometimes things get lost in translation. It gets lost in a tweet, you know, everything. Sometimes you put something in the email or you put something in a letter. And I want to hear. I want to hear his. What his thought process is, what he means when he says the NBA coverage is weak. When he says it's led by men and women. I mean, yeah, it's a different era now. Women are more involved as far as covering the game, being allowed in the locker room. That happened in 1980. That happened in 1984. There was an incident happened. I think it was in the New England Patriots in the situation, and all hell broke loose. Y' all can go look up the situation, look up what happened, but it's a different era. Not J. Ro. The women gonna have, you know, And I get it. I get it. Women didn't play NBA basketball. Women didn't play NBA football. But they're gonna have an opinion.
Joe Johnson
Yeah.
Shannon Sharpe
And whether you agree with it or disagree with it, you like or dislike it, it's here to stay and ain't too much we can do about it. But I'm gonna reach out to you and give you an opportunity. Hopefully we can get. We can get you on a Wednesday night. Chris Bosh spoke on the claim that LeBron is ring chasing by signing with the six. Everybody chases ring. If you don't think Kobe enjoying with ring chasing too, you're crazy.
Joe Johnson
He absolutely right. Everybody. Everybody's trying to win. Everybody's trying to win a damn ring. You ain't going into no situation saying that. Oh, man, I just want to get through the season. I hope we have a pretty good season. You have championship aspirations. When LeBron James joins your team, that is the ultimate goal, bro. It don't matter what it is. And Brian knows that. That's why Uncle Ocho, when I really think about it and I see what. I kind of can see why, you know, he picked Philly to join because he knows understand the weapons that he's gonna have at his leisure, and he'll be able to control them, so.
Shannon Sharpe
And he knows. Father Time waits for no man.
Joe Johnson
Yes.
Shannon Sharpe
He's about to be 42.
Joe Johnson
Yep.
Shannon Sharpe
And he can say his mind's still sharp. He can't do all the things he can't play 40 minutes like he once could at the level that he once could. He has to pick and choose his spots. And so now he has someone when he's coasting. Joel Embiid, Jalen Brown, Tyrese Maxey can do a lot of the heavy lifting. And when needed, I can come in and chip in. I'll make sure you guys in the right place. Just trust me. I'll.
Nicotine Warning Announcer
I'll.
Shannon Sharpe
I. Let me. Let me a. I believe he. I believe in order for you to maximize. Why you signed him is that you got to let him have the ball in his hands.
Joe Johnson
Yeah. Gotta let him playmate.
Shannon Sharpe
You got to.
Joe Johnson
I think. I think Philly's definitely going to do that, Uncle Ocho. It's just not going to be like a heavy, heavy dosage of it. Okay, cool. Maybe when we get to the fourth quarter, it's under five minutes, we got a nip and tuck game. We gonna trust big fella. You know what I'm saying? Yeah, we gonna trust him because I know. I know. See, the thing is about giving him the ball down the stretch, Uncle Ocho, or. Or in those tough situations, it's not for him necessarily to score. Cause you just know he gonna make. Make the right damn play. You know what I mean?
Shannon Sharpe
Yes.
Ocho Cinco (Chad Johnson)
Yes.
Joe Johnson
Like, he gonna. He gonna find Joel. He may. He gonna find JB in the corner for three. You feel what I'm saying?
Shannon Sharpe
Yeah, yeah.
Joe Johnson
He gonna find Max. He gonna. He gonna keep. He. He gonna make the defense stay honest. And then when you don't double or collapse the defense, then that's when he's.
Shannon Sharpe
That.
Joe Johnson
That's when he's gonna be able to create his own.
Ocho Cinco (Chad Johnson)
Yeah.
Joe Johnson
And get his own. So I think, you know, I don't think there's no overreaction to this. To this Philly thing, man. We talk about ring chasing. I ain't stand no damn ring chasing. Hey, man, I ain't going nowhere. I don't feel like I can't win
Ocho Cinco (Chad Johnson)
now if I'm bro list. And you think about the conversations that are had now, too, Uncle Joe, based on where we are now. Everything is based off rings. Everything is based off, you know, have you won a championship? The ring culture now has it at a point where now the athletes think, well, this is the end goal. That's what you want. You know, but you don't want to have to go to situations that makes it easy for you to do so. So for one, you win a ring, then they chastise you for going to teams that give you the best chance to do so.
Shannon Sharpe
And if you don't, what is it? A lot of. Look, people, I. I'd rather see a guy ring chase as opposed to say, and I'm going to take this money, because more times than not, they won't. Jason Kidd. I heard Jason Kidd was on somebody podcast. He said, oh, no, you know, I want. He said, no, they want minutes and they want money.
Joe Johnson
Yeah.
Shannon Sharpe
They want the two M's in football. This ain't. We always say, when you play the game of football, you want to leave with as many memories and as much money as you possibly can. Hello, the choice.
Ocho Cinco (Chad Johnson)
Yes, sir.
Shannon Sharpe
Give me the money.
Ocho Cinco (Chad Johnson)
Yeah.
Shannon Sharpe
Because there gonna be a time I'm gonna forget all this ish.
Ocho Cinco (Chad Johnson)
Yeah. Yeah.
Shannon Sharpe
With that being said, somebody in the chat said, see, there goes LeBron's teammates taking up for him. What is Scott, what does Dennis Rodman said about Jordan, the best player ever? What is BJ Armstrong saying? What is Steve Kerr saying? What is Kobe teammate said about him? You think, hold on, you think a teammate not supposed to stick up for his teammate?
Joe Johnson
That's gonna happen. That's natural, bro.
Shannon Sharpe
People, you give them the choice. Would you rather have throw you the ball, John Elway? Cause everybody that you might name other quarterbacks, they ain't help Shannon Sharp do ish. What wide receivers you want? I want Ed. Ed McCaffrey and Rod Smith. And I want TD behind me.
Joe Johnson
Yeah.
Shannon Sharpe
Why would. Why would I pick somebody that didn't help me do anything? I got super bowl rings and I got a gold jacket because of those teammates. And D. A, give me Ray, give me Rod, give me C. Mac. Yeah. Yeah. That's what I want. Y' all want them guys?
Joe Johnson
Yeah.
Shannon Sharpe
Yep. I sure do. I. I don't. I don't get. But, oh, I sure hate to be some of y' all friends. Cause, boy, hey, somebody got a little bit more prestige, a little bit more money, y' all gonna forget all about me. Ocho and Joe, y' all already told me that that's what y' all gonna do. He got French fry.
Joe Johnson
He like. Man, what he like?
Shannon Sharpe
Damn, you supposed to have your butt in the bed long time. Is it so. Nah, it ain't.
Joe Johnson
It's too early.
Shannon Sharpe
That's what you're supposed to do. You chase greatness. Yeah, but the ring culture, y' all sport it because what y' all have done. There are guys that have rings that aren't as great, and I. The prime example I like to use is Charles Barkley. Y' all make it seem like Charles Barkley was a bum because he ain't got no ring. And there are guys that got two, three rings. They ain't a third of the players.
Joe Johnson
Totally agree.
Shannon Sharpe
There's a difference between being a great player and being a great player in a role. They're two different things, guys. Yeah, Charles Barkley was a great player. Y' all better go back and check. Y' all better go. Hey, y' all find highlights of everything else. Go check the highlights on.
Joe Johnson
Chuck a whole dog out there.
Shannon Sharpe
Yeah, we're gonna put you up.
Joe Johnson
Oh, Joe, a kid ain't started school, bro.
Ocho Cinco (Chad Johnson)
Nah, nah. School don't start to the tent.
Joe Johnson
Started today, man. Boy, I was out there in carpool and everything.
Ocho Cinco (Chad Johnson)
Yeah, I got. Let me see. I'm trying. I'm trying to get Mama to let French fries stay. Stay with me. Kennedy star. School on the 10th. My son starts school on the 10th. My daughter, she. My. My daughter that played tennis. She's home school, so she could focus on tennis only.
Joe Johnson
She must be nice now.
Jalen Brown
Yeah.
Ocho Cinco (Chad Johnson)
Yo, yo, Joe. She like that, Joe. Obviously. My daughter running University of Kentucky. She go back next week.
Shannon Sharpe
I swear, we used to go back down there Labor Day. I don't know where these kids, but we didn't get out to Damn near the 4th of July. Hell, if we.
Joe Johnson
We used to go back to about mid. About mid August. I mean, late August. Yeah, late August. Yeah, yeah.
Shannon Sharpe
Yeah, I don't know. But as bad as these kids let them go year round, it ain't. Hey, Dad's in school. You get out of everything. Every holiday, every presidential and, you know, teachers. Teachers need a day to. To prepare the. Man, we ain't getting no to them days them teaching prepare. Hey, when you out at recess? If they didn't have the. If they didn't have a. What they call that? Chaperone duties or what you call. Hey, they was in there getting their room ready then, man. Ain't about all these. These holidays and. And. And veteran. This day and that day, Columbus Day. I don't remember getting all them days off.
Joe Johnson
I don't. They got fall break, they got winter break, they got spring break. They got. I'm like, damn, how much.
Shannon Sharpe
When y' all gonna go to school? Better have my daughter. I'm getting up early to my daddy. We ain't got school. I said, y' all ain't got school today. Why?
Ocho Cinco (Chad Johnson)
Hey, teacher. Teacher planning day.
Tony Ayo
Yes.
Ocho Cinco (Chad Johnson)
There's always something.
Shannon Sharpe
Hey, they need to stay in school.
Joe Johnson
Yeah. Look, hey, I told Ocho, man, school started today, bro. Carpool like a mug. You know what I mean?
Shannon Sharpe
Man, Joe, I don't miss that.
Joe Johnson
Oh, I know, boy. Who they is?
Shannon Sharpe
My daughter went to Druid Hills and then I had to take her early in the morning. I just be getting home. Especially Monday. Monday was tough because I didn't get home till, like, you know, I get home. By the time I get home, shower, getting to bed, she getting. She know she getting up. She got to be to school, I think at like 8. Then I gotta go through that traffic because it's over there by the cdc. Yeah, all back over there. All that traffic. Then I gotta go back and pick her up. Daddy, you know I can drive. No, you can't. Not none of my calls.
Ocho Cinco (Chad Johnson)
Hey, listen, my. My son trying to. My son trying to get a car now.
Joe Johnson
What you mean he trying. How it is
Shannon Sharpe
he tried to get a car?
Ocho Cinco (Chad Johnson)
Yeah, yeah, he want. He wanna. He wanted. Now, you know, all the old. All the older kids got a car, so he next in line. But I need. I need your decision making to be a little bit better. I need you to be a little more responsible.
Joe Johnson
Hold on, hold on. They driving as a. Because a freshman. That's a ninth grader, ojo. Yeah, they driving. They. They driving. They young.
Ocho Cinco (Chad Johnson)
Yeah, Joe, you got me. You got your permit? Once you got your permit? Yeah.

Hosts: Shannon Sharpe, Chad “Ochocinco” Johnson, Joe Johnson (guest)
Main Theme:
The hosts react to LeBron James’ stunning move to the Philadelphia 76ers to join Jalen Brown, Joel Embiid, and Tyrese Maxey, breaking down the implications for the NBA, addressing narratives of “ring chasing,” Jalen Rose’s criticisms of modern NBA coverage and LeBron fans, and what LeBron’s legacy means at this stage.
[10:01 – 19:03]
Jalen Brown’s Reaction:
Ochocinco [11:20]: As a Miami fan, admits disappointment but understands:
“I thought LeBron was coming as well. ...I think it’s a good decision, especially at 41, 42 years old... This is a chance, an opportunity to go to a team where the supporting cast is extremely stellar, where he doesn’t have to do that much.”
Joe Johnson [12:45]: Notes LeBron now has the luxury of support — JB, Embiid, Maxey — allowing him to orchestrate, not carry:
“When those guys buy into whatever it is LeBron selling, sky’s the limit for the Sixers, man.”
Shannon Sharpe [14:16]: Draws parallels with Brady (Bucs) and Peyton Manning (Broncos), emphasizing the value of joining the right supporting cast late in a legendary career.
[16:30] Shannon Sharpe critiques the shifting narratives — LeBron got slammed for joining the Lakers (supposedly not to win), but now gets hammered for “ring chasing” by going to a stacked Philly squad:
“He went to LA, they said he didn’t go to catch Michael Jordan... Now he goes to a team that have really good players. ‘Oh, he ring chasing.’ I need y’all to make it make sense.”
[18:12] Joe Johnson:
“He playing for his legacy. He know going to Philly… I take this franchise to the top, we get to the mountaintop and win.”
[19:03] Shannon Sharpe notes this would make LeBron the first superstar to potentially win titles with four franchises, citing his historical impact everywhere he’s gone.
[24:44 – 41:38]
[24:44] Shannon Sharpe on harsh legacy judgments:
“Why is it that him going to Philly and not winning a championship would harm his legacy, but Michael Jordan going to Washington did nothing? He was just going to have fun. ...Had he won a championship, would you have turned it down?”
[26:11] Ochocinco:
“We’ve never seen it before, Joe. …Every time they throw something at him, he come back with something else. And he’s still going at this age, still playing quality basketball… Most of the hate is coming from those that played on the same type of hardwood.”
[29:09] Joe Johnson:
“When you’ve been great for so long, at some point, man, they gonna start throwing sticks.”
[29:59] Ochocinco & [30:03] Shannon Sharpe note that LeBron gets criticized differently than Kobe, Jordan — and that even Kobe faced less backlash for emulating Jordan’s game.
[34:27] Shannon Sharpe:
“Back then, there was only one place. Now there are so many more outlets... so many more opinions.”
[35:00] Discussion on language:
Jordan, Magic, Bird fans were called “fans.” Now with LeBron, the term is “stans” — cultural shifts and increased scrutiny.
“You can look... Y’all see all them Jordan shoes I got? ...I can appreciate LeBron. I can appreciate Kobe. I can appreciate Jordan.”
[45:21 – 57:12]
[45:53] Joe Johnson:
“You have a lot of ex-professional basketball players who’ve played the game… I don’t think it’s a bad thing because you ain’t played the game, you can’t commentate.”
[51:01 – 53:19] Sharpe:
“Some of the best coaches, best people to analyze games weren’t your best players. ...At the end of the day, the fans want to be entertained… The casual fan doesn’t understand what a pin-down or a floppy is. So why would you try to put that on them?”
[54:09] Ochocinco:
“What makes it so difficult is those that played the game, especially at a very high level, most of them can’t explain it… Not only to play it, but to be able to sit there on camera and break it down in a way others can understand…That’s very difficult.”
[58:04 – 61:29]
[58:28] Chris Bosh, via Shannon:
“Everybody chases ring. If you don’t think Kobe or Jordan weren’t ring chasing too, you’re crazy.”
[59:44] Sharpe:
“In order for you to maximize why you signed [LeBron], you’ve got to let him have the ball in his hands.”
All hosts agree: The NBA “ring culture” simultaneously demands superstars chase titles, but then shames them for making moves to do so.
Legacy—win or lose:
[37:07–41:49]
Lighthearted sidebars and banter sprinkled throughout, in classic Nightcap fashion:
“All I had to do was free Willie… I’m gonna get it in though.”
| Segment | Who Led Discussion | Notable Quote / Takeaway | |---------|--------------------|--------------------------------------------| | LeBron to Philly | All | “Super excited...opportunity to learn from the greatest.” — Jalen Brown [10:01] | | Ring Chasing | Sharpe, Joe, Ocho | “He went to LA, said wasn’t to win...now he goes for help, 'oh, he ring chasing.' Make it make sense!” — Sharpe [16:30] | | Media Critique | Joe, Ocho, Sharpe | “Most who played can’t explain it—that’s a skill in itself.” — Ocho [54:09] | | LeBron Legacy | Ocho | “It’s cemented… he can add to it, but he can’t harm it.” [52:00] | | Facilities/Player Experience | Ocho, Joe | “I ain’t never seen nothing like that.” — Ocho [39:08] |
This “Nightcap” is a lively, unfiltered discussion about LeBron’s late-career move and its impact on NBA narratives, the debate over “ring chasing,” shifting media/fan language, and the modern state of sports commentary. The episode blends high-level basketball analysis, barbershop banter, and personal stories, making it a must-listen for fans concerned about both the game between the lines and everything swirling around it.
