Hey guys, it's your favorite UNC here. Go ahead and click that subscribe button below so you don't miss a single episode of Nightcap. That button right here. Come for the sports, stay for the stories. Hey, y' all take me back, bro. Take me back. 2009, 2010, boy, we were running through the ATL streets, T. What?
Josh Smith
What? What?
Jeremy Evans
Oh, man, that was the best time of my life, boy. I met y' all boys, man. Y' all changed my life. Boy, I was just a little green kid from Indiana. Boy, I ain't know nothing. I get on a house, boy, I ain't know nothing. Hey, these boys got me buying a challenger. All type of stuff, man.
Joe Johnson
I tell. Hey, hey. I tell the story. One night we got in. It had to be by 2, 3 in the morning. And me, you and Josh had a challenger. And we was on the freeway racing. I'm the only one got pulled over. And y' all ass kept going. I said, man, listen, I went on pulled over. Cause I don't want no problem. He let me go any damn way. So, you know, cool. But hey, hey, them was some good times, bro. Them some good times. I hate it. You know, it had to end the way it did. But I always say it's the house that Dominique built. Hell, me, Josh and T, we put a little stucco, you know, we put some new lighting, you know, some new side in there. Trey came in and renovated that thing. You know what I'm talking about? I think Jalen Johnson got a chance to redo the whole thing, bro. I'm just gonn Keep it 100, bro. I. I think this Hawks team is going to surprise a lot of people. Obviously, defensively, we can guard. We just got to be able to score and rebound. I just think the size, like, as much as I like the Flemings, kid from. From Houston, I love him as from. From point guard perspective. But we do need a little more beef down there, bro, to help them boys out. Cause that's really what hurt us against the Knicks.
Jeremy Evans
I don't know. I seen that they had a trade in for like. People been talking about Jared Allen. If we can get Jared Allen.
Joe Johnson
Y' all think. Hold on, hold up. Y' all think Cleveland gonna get rid of.
Jeremy Evans
Nah, I mean, they got. They gotta get out of that second apron, though. They gonna have to.
Josh Smith
Yeah, yeah. The facts. Because they. They wanted to top the top ones, ain't they, Jeff? Yeah, they got that.
Jeremy Evans
One of the highest payrolls for sure. And Donovan, he ain't holding back on nobody. He just Got that news.
Josh Smith
I put a ring. I just put a ring on it, too. I got it. I need that.
Joe Johnson
Oh, yeah. Hey, the NBA has definitely. The landscape of the league has changed, bro. You know, you look at from how the game is played now, it ain't no post players no more. You know, you probably got three post players. For real.
Warning/Disclaimer Voice
For real.
Joe Johnson
Embi, Jokic. Hell, who else?
Josh Smith
So I said, they copy paste me.
Jeremy Evans
Yeah, it really ain't no post players.
Joe Johnson
It's not, bro. It's not the game. The game has changed, man. And hey, the way they getting up and down the floor scoring these points. It's a guard heavy league.
Jeremy Evans
Boy, I wish I was just 10 years younger, but I ain't had to pass the ball to you niggas. I mean, you guys, hey, you know, my show a little different. My show a little different for my father.
Joe Johnson
Hey, hey, hey. It's just, you know, you know, timing was a little different. You know, you got thrust into that, but you held your own, bro. But yeah, we. We needed that. We needed that peak, Teague. That tea when y' all was out here running the Eastern Conference. Running. You know what I mean?
Josh Smith
Yeah, that's the one. That's the one.
Jeremy Evans
I was too young, bro. I was too young. I ain't gonna lie. Y' all was already a seasoned team, bro. Y', all. Y' all just came off that playoff matchup with Boston. Y' all was already kind of heading towards the right way. Y' all needed Bibby, y' all needed Kurt Heimer. I wasn't ready. But, boy, when we got D roll, I was like, I can't stay with this young boy. I can't stay with it either, but I can fake it.
Josh Smith
Yeah.
Joe Johnson
Hey, you had to get on your horses, boy.
Jeremy Evans
Man, what?
Joe Johnson
It's a big difference. I think the point guard spot, bruh. I watched my guy Darius Acuff play for the Sacramento. You know you gonna have your lumps and bruises at that position because that's the hardest position to come into the league and play, because you gonna come in and you gonna have your two guard like Zach Levine, who's been in the league for quite some time now. You gotta try to figure out how you can get yours off and how you get these other guys involved as well. It's similar to the quarterback in football, you know what I mean? Like, you gotta know how to distribute. You gotta know, you gotta go through your reads. You gotta be able to pick stuff up a lot faster than a guy who's not a point Guard or a quarterback. So that point guard position. Hard, bro. Especially when you come in and you ain't played the whole first round tee. And then, damn, you run into. Now you gotta guard the mvp. Like, I get it, bro. I get it. I know that was challenging.
Jeremy Evans
It was challenging. But the hardest part is, like, realizing that y' all are grown men. Like, I just came from everybody. 19, 18, on my college team, and I come to the team with y'.
Jamal Crawford
All.
Jeremy Evans
Y' all 28, 30, married, got kids. I'm trying to lead. I'm trying to tell y' all what to do. Y' all like, hey, boy, swing it over here. I ain't worried about nothing. They talk about and you know everybody. I didn't know about contracts and all that stuff.
Josh Smith
You.
Jeremy Evans
Hey, as a young boy, you don't know none of that stuff.
Joe Johnson
But that's why I heard you say it before. That's why it's great to have ex Vets on the coaching staff. You know, T, you had Nick Van Exel. When I was a rookie, I had Lester Connor. And they would tell you straight. They would tell you straight up. Hey, look, bro, Lester Connor told me. He said, hey, man, you need to be in the bed by noon. I mean, by 12 o', clock, midnight. You know what I mean? You don't need to be out all night. You need to eat this way, you need to eat that way. You need to get to the gym. If we got practice at 12 noon, you need to be there at 10 o', clock getting your work in. By the time them dudes get there, the vets, hell, you done already worked out twice. You just ready for practice. So it's little stuff like that, like, even from him. Cause y' all know, hell, y' all played on the Lester Connor with me here in Atlanta, man, listen, the man would call me to his house at night, bro. His wife would cook and, like, you know, just teaching me certain things to eat. Yeah, no, don't put too much. Not too much mayo, not too much ketchup. You know, it's just little things like that that as a professional athlete, bro, you appreciate. Because, man, you come in, you be so green. You don't know. You just so happy that you made it to the league, and you like, shh, I'm finna put on. I'm finna put on you, man. Listen, you gotta fall in line, bro. You got to figure it out. That's the hardest part. That's the hardest part about being a pro.
Mike Bibby
Yeah.
Josh Smith
Understanding.
Jeremy Evans
Yeah, I know that was tough. For you, though, Josh, coming out of high school, I couldn't imagine, boy.
Joe Johnson
Now, hold on, hold on, hold on. Not just coming out of high school, but smooth. You got drafted to the Hawks. You from here, bro.
Jeremy Evans
Yeah.
Joe Johnson
Like, tell us, like, real talk. Tell us how that first year was. And then, because I know. I think y' all only won 13 games your rookie year. What they were hitting on, bro. What? That was, like, real talk.
Josh Smith
It was. Boy, that was. That was. That was a hard time, boy, as a rookie. Cause I ain't. You know, you thinking, like, when you. Whatever situation you stepping into, you thinking like, this is this. This has to be the scenario for everybody.
Joe Johnson
Yeah. You know what I'm saying?
Josh Smith
Like, so I'm thinking, like, every ownership, every team is getting treated like, how we getting treated. So I'm like. I'm just a deer in headlights. I had Antoine Walker. He was probably the best. The coolest vet. But we had, like, Kenny Anderson and Kevin Willis. So them two, like, they used to get into it all the time, bro. So then you had Al Harrington, but he was, like, on his deal, so he really wasn't trying to. He really wasn't messing with me like that. Man, you in my way. I ain't got nothing to tell you.
Joe Johnson
You know what I'm saying?
Josh Smith
I'm like, five. He like, six years, seven years in. He like, man, I'm still in the league, bro. I ain't got nothing to tell you.
Joe Johnson
Yeah.
Josh Smith
And so I used to kind of, like, lean on Antoine because, like, Kevin. Like Kevin Willis just wanted to give me, like, the rookie experience, but he never wanted to do nothing. Like, I remember I was coming in with a nasty number from number 42. I was coming in. I'm gonna get my little AAU number. That shit was nasty as hell, that I think about it. But they was like, we gonna sign Kevin Willis. Can you change jerseys? I'm like, all right. I just picked five. I was like, man, just give me five. It was for, like, no reason. I just threw a number out there.
Joe Johnson
Yeah.
Josh Smith
So that's how it worked. Then when he came in, they was like. People was telling me how. Oh, man, they gonna. You know, the veterans show love.
Mike Bibby
When you.
Josh Smith
When you get your jersey up, they gonna give you some money. All right, man, I'm rubbing. I'm rubbing my hands together. You know what I mean? I see him. What up, young fella? He covered that, Joe. Just messing with me the whole time I'm in there, I'm like, all right, bro. This is. I guess I'm getting the Ricky Hazel from him. So I used to stay. Stay connected to Antoine whenever the chance I got. He the one who showed kind of everything, though. You know what I'm saying?
Joe Johnson
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Josh Smith
He was a real one, though.
Jeremy Evans
Sure.
Joe Johnson
Oh, yeah. Now, listen, you know, Twan and Kenny Anderson, Smooth, you know, they were my best when I was a rookie in Boston.
Josh Smith
See, that's what I'm saying. See, these. These kids today don't have. They. They threw. It's like training day with them type, you know what I'm saying?
Joe Johnson
Oh, man, you talking. Hey, hey, hey, hold up, T. Did you have to carry the. The backpack when you was looking at me?
Jeremy Evans
Nah. Y' all know, y' all popcorn, my car. Y' all did all that stuff to me, man.
Josh Smith
Yeah. Cause he ain't want to carry the pot. He want to carry the backpack. He want to carry the backpack. He want to carry the backpack. You know what I'm saying? I carried the backpack. You know what I'm saying?
Joe Johnson
Hey, I know that feeling, boy. Because I had two other rookies with me, Joe Forte and Kedrick Brown. Hell, we all had to carry backpacks. Not only backpacks. We had to get coffee in the morning. Donut. I'm talking about these dudes wasn't even eating this stuff, drinking none of this stuff.
Josh Smith
Oh, I know.
Jeremy Evans
Oh, trust me, I know. Oh, I know.
Joe Johnson
Oh, you had to make a few store runs.
Jeremy Evans
I had to get Krispy Kreme every morning. I left them in my locker. I put them at the top. They was green. I remember Smooth finally opened one up. They was green because I just kept recycling them. I'm like, they don't even eat them.
Joe Johnson
We had some. We had some hell of a time, bro. Hey, I think about those times, you know, it was always something going on. I always tell people, bro, I said, listen. Hell, they always talking about, man, why the Atlanta Hawks ain't never won no championship. Damn, man. Something going on every damn night. Soon we leave the arena. Listen, we go right up the street, hit Lucky Loud, and we probably go. Go to the comedy spot. Before we hit the spot, it might be a concert. It might be a concert. One night, somebody may have a big party, man, was something going on?
Josh Smith
It was something jumping in for the Trailblazers time, too. Them owners was trying to go low budget on the coaches, too.
Joe Johnson
What'd you say?
Josh Smith
It was like, take. Who got this? One point, 1.5 high. Hey, them folks ain't give us a chance on that end. Let's keep it 100 now. We was blessing new coaches and stuff. Now, guys had their first coaches careers off the Letterhawks. Now, don't. Don't do that. We had no pop.
Jeremy Evans
I remember one time we went out, man, I. I went to. I knew the schedule to go out. Cause y' all know I wasn't playing. So I knew where, who to go with on Wednesday, who was going up.
Josh Smith
Joe ain't answering that phone after the game. Joe ain't answering that phone.
Jeremy Evans
No. You know, we a answering the phone.
Josh Smith
He gonna tell you where he going. He not answering that phone.
Jeremy Evans
He be like, just meet me there. He ain't gonna answer the phone.
Josh Smith
He gonna tell you. He gonna tell you. He gonna tell you. We gonna. We gonna do this and that right after the game.
Joe Johnson
And then.
Josh Smith
Then answer that thing.
Joe Johnson
Hey, hey, don't do that. We was in there.
Jeremy Evans
You used to get there. I just wait by the door.
Josh Smith
Yeah, cuz. I know, cuz. He told me where to go.
Joe Johnson
Now, if it was. If it was something going on, damn it, we was there. I'm talking about. We was there.
Josh Smith
You hear me?
Joe Johnson
I don't care what it was.
Jeremy Evans
We went to the club at 10. We opened the club up and listened to no Hands for two hours straight.
Joe Johnson
We. Hey, hold on. We had just left, like a concert or something.
Danny Green
Yeah.
Joe Johnson
We was the first one in the spot. That Roscoe Dash. Come on that no Hand, boy.
Jeremy Evans
We was in there for two hours before somebody got in there.
Joe Johnson
Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. 18. But before you got to the A, bro, we would lean with it, rock with it. We were doing all that.
Jeremy Evans
I'm mad I wasn't there. Hey, man, hurt. I remember they tried to send me to the G League one day. Y' all was going to Miami. I was like, boy, you gotta go to the G League. I was like, yeah. He was. I was like, dang, what? We going to Miami. I was like, I. I begged Rick's son. I was like, please don't let me. I begged you. I was like, please, man. I don't think I would get better down there
Joe Johnson
after that. They said it's time out for the foolery. They. They went and hired that. Hired that other man, and he came in, he started with me, got me up out of here, got Marv up out of here. Next thing I know is that things wasn't the same.
Jeremy Evans
It wasn't the same at all, boy.
Joe Johnson
It wasn't the same.
Josh Smith
I was ready to get on up out of here.
Joe Johnson
Hey, Smooth, hold on. So when you went to Detroit. Tell me something. Cause you went over there, and you played the three, and you had been playing pretty much the four with us. I'm saying that's what they was telling you before you came over there.
Josh Smith
Nah, man. When I signed the contract, they was like, boom, you gonna play the three.
Sports Announcer
I'm like, huh?
Josh Smith
I'm like, nah. Like, nah, bro, let me. You know what I mean? I've been playing the fold for nine years. Like, I done got accustomed to that position. Like, just bring one of us up. Like, if you just, like, sign me, just bring Greg or Drummond off the bench. One of them. You know what I'm saying? Cause both of them kind of similar games. They just, you know, well, Drummond, I mean, Greg was more of a post up player, but, like, as far as, like, just down low scoring, like, they were more, like down there in the paint. I was like, more perimeter based, and I could be more versatile, like, guarding people. So I'm like, just. They like, nah, we gonna play all three of y' all together. I'm like, man, this is somebody getting fired, bro. Somebody not gonna work, bro. It's not gonna work. So I got the weight down, and you know what I'm saying? I started figuring out the position probably like a month into the season, because, you know, it's. It's a different position playing the three from the four.
Joe Johnson
Yeah, yeah.
Josh Smith
He was chasing guys around screens and running through pick and rolls.
Joe Johnson
Hey, hey, that's the scores. Position the 2, 3 in the league, man.
Josh Smith
Paul George cooked me, bro, the first.
Joe Johnson
First game season.
Josh Smith
But he told me he just got the 90 ball. He was like, yeah, that's why y' all gave me the 90. He I, it ain't nothing I could do, though. You know what I'm saying? I'm fighting through screens, contested. Wow. So mad, bro. The next. The next time we played him, I wore his ass out, though. I was like, bro, like, they just had me bad, bruh. I had marked the calendar. I'm like, bro, wait till we play Indiana again.
Joe Johnson
Oh, yeah.
Josh Smith
He just got paid, man. He went slap off.
Jeremy Evans
When y' all boys left, man, it wasn't the same.
Joe Johnson
Hey, it was, but it was a little better for you, though. I see you, you.
Angela Yee
You.
Joe Johnson
You went ham out there.
Jeremy Evans
Yeah, I got the ball. It was a little different, but it would. We ain't go out like. I was. I was still trying. I was still trying to hold on to the memories, bro. I'm going out by myself. I've invited people. Ain't nobody showing up. It was just different, bro.
Joe Johnson
I can imagine Bro, I can. But listen, y' all brought some. Y' all brought some love to the city, bro. What? Y' all made it, Jeff, to the Eastern Eastern Conference.
Josh Smith
Yeah, we went.
Joe Johnson
Oh, yeah, Yeah. Y' all playing against that Cleveland team. Brian, Kyrie.
Jeremy Evans
We went once. Yeah. We got swept though, so.
Joe Johnson
Damn. Hey, where y' all be shooting at, T? Where y' all be shooting the 520 at?
Jeremy Evans
We got a studio in.
Joe Johnson
Where?
Jeremy Evans
In Indianapolis.
Joe Johnson
Oh, yeah?
Danny Green
Yeah.
Jeremy Evans
Why you gonna come to the studio, man?
Joe Johnson
Yeah, man, I'll pull up on y', all, bro.
Jeremy Evans
Come in town. We used to shoot at my crib. I don't shoot there no more, though. Smooth came to the crib.
Joe Johnson
Hey, I come there, man. I do some yoga with y', all, man. Y' all come do some yoga with me.
Jeremy Evans
Hey, yeah, matter of fact, last time. Yeah, I'm glad you said that. Hold on, Smooth. Last time we came to Atlanta, we came for Joe. Yeah. Remember that.
Josh Smith
That's why y' all had to sub me in.
Joe Johnson
Yeah, we didn't talked about this and got over this already, fella. We didn't talk about it and got over it.
Jeremy Evans
We went up to the ISO yoga spot looking for it. Like he might be here doing yoga. Girl, we gonna pull up, bro.
Joe Johnson
Hey, hey, listen, listen. Y' all got a good. Y' all got a good yoga studio. I like out there in Indiana, bro. I'm gonna have to pull up on y' all for real. Damn, man. And you know you're gonna come out there and bless the studio, man. See what y' all got going on.
Jeremy Evans
Please do, bro. I do yoga. I've never done it before.

Pretty much. Grew up in church, I think D.C. usually. What, youngest of seven?
Jamal Crawford
Youngest of y' all eight. Youngest eight? Yup.
Josh Smith
Yeah.
Joe Johnson
You grew up in church, bro?
Jamal Crawford
Yes, sir. All day, every day. My dad was 61 when he had me. So, you know. Yeah, man. Chico called me a grand.
Josh Smith
Don't play with me.
Jamal Crawford
Chico called me a grandbrother.
Jeremy Evans
Oh.
Jamal Crawford
You feel me? So just having that spiritual, you know what I'm saying? Foundation, bro. It kind of kept me. It kept me in line. You feed me anytime that, you know, I felt like I was being deteriorated or I ain't feeling like doing something, but I stopped. Spirit always had me, you know what I'm saying? Kept me in check. The flesh is weak, my boy.

Jeremy Evans
Six, five.
Josh Smith

Hey, listen, you know, when I. When we were young, we were coming up, bro, any league that we could play and say we, it ain't like today, right? You know, all these kids got trainers and all that. You know what I mean? You see, everybody got a trainer now. All we did was hoop. So if the church league was jumping, we were playing in the church league on Sunday. They hooping up at the court. We going to play at the court with the fell. You know what I mean? Anywhere they was hooping, that's how we got better. Dc, I'm gonna be real.
Jamal Crawford
I thought I. I thought I was y' all in my head, bro. I really. I ain't gonna lie if I put. I do whatever I put my mind to. But I realized when I go see y' all play, I'm like, no, that was not what you was supposed to be doing. Like, y' all is great. Like, y' all gotta. It's a certain physique of a NBA player where like, bruh, I ain't hit no Grossbert. I was like 19.
Sports Announcer
Yeah.
Mike Bibby
What do you mean?
Jamal Crawford
I was five fold until I was like 19. I'm six one.
Joe Johnson
I'm six one.
Jamal Crawford
Smooth.
Josh Smith
Yeah.
Joe Johnson
Hey, when did you know you really had a chance, bro, to make it to the league? I'm saying, like, that was the plan the entire time.
Josh Smith
I was just trying to play basketball, you know what I mean?
Joe Johnson
I'm saying, even like in junior high and all that, I didn't know.
Josh Smith
I had no idea, you know what I'm saying? Then now you. Now you get older, you be like, okay, I see why my dad did this. Like, he quit his job when I was in high school. He was at home a little more, you know what I'm saying?
Jamal Crawford
He knew.
Josh Smith
Like, now I know. Like, man, I gotta stay close to this little. You know, this little nigga. So I'm like, shit, okay, cool. I gotta. I ain't understanding until, like my senior in high school, my dad gave me a little talk, you know what I'm saying? Cause I still was thinking about going to college. I was talking to him about going to Indiana and all that. He was like, bro, we ain't doing that.
Jamal Crawford
We ain't doing that,
Joe Johnson
Boy. Hey, I love Pete, boy. Hey, we might have to get old school. We had to get Pete on. Hey, that's real Atlanta right there. I don't know if you've ever met John. Danny, bro.
Josh Smith
Hey, he played. He from Albany, but, you know, we was over there. Ben Hill, you know what I'm saying? He played. That why I started playing, you know what I'm saying? Basketball at. Over there at Ben Hill.
Jamal Crawford
That's why you got. Good, good.
Joe Johnson
Yeah, man.
Josh Smith
Started with really? Yeah, with the real. With the real pros happening.
Jamal Crawford
Yes, sir.
Jeremy Evans
Yes, sir.
Joe Johnson
That's how you learn how to play, bro.
Josh Smith
You know how you put the little. The court together.
Jamal Crawford
Yes.
Joe Johnson
Hey, hey. But that's how you learn, bro. When we was kids, bro, we just played.
Jeremy Evans
Yeah.
Joe Johnson
You know We. We just played the game.
Jeremy Evans
What you played?
Joe Johnson
Coming up, bro.
Jamal Crawford
You know what I play? I played baseball all the way to the end. That how I know? I'm real good at that. Oh, I played everything. Bay ball, football, basketball. But baseball for sure. For sure. I know I talk a lot of. About everything else but baseball for sure. I can back that up. All day, every day.
Joe Johnson
Yeah, Smooth. You played any other sports?
Josh Smith
No, straight. Straight basketball. I tried to throw the helmet on. My dad was not playing.
Jamal Crawford
Ooh. He wasn't going for it.
Josh Smith
Middle school. I like. I want to play basketball. I want to play football. He like, but hell no. So I was like, he went on the road. Cause he drove trucks. I had slid over there to my mama. Mom got there, signed me up. So when he came home. When he came home, he seen the pants on the ground where he gave it to me.
Joe Johnson
Boy, it cuts me.
Josh Smith
Buy your dumb ass no cleats. I was out there slipping and sliding. Goddamn my life. But I was like, man, you know what, man? I ain't. I ain't playing no more, man.
Joe Johnson
Oh, yeah, I already know. Hey, hey, hey. Speaking of football. Speaking of football. What's up, y'?
Mike Bibby
All?
Joe Johnson
Falcons fans? What's up?
Josh Smith
Absolutely.
Jamal Crawford
Okay.
Joe Johnson
Keep it a bean.
Jeremy Evans
Keep it a bean.
Jamal Crawford
I got. I gotta take a drink.
Josh Smith
I'm a pain freak.
Joe Johnson
Oh, he finna tell a lie if he gotta take a drink.
Josh Smith
I need to take me a drink too, bro.
Joe Johnson
What's up? What's going on?
Jamal Crawford
Smooth.
Josh Smith
Oh, we pain freaks, bro. I mean, I. I'm. I'm in Atlanta everything Braves. That's what I'm saying.
Jamal Crawford
I'm in Atlanta everything.
Josh Smith
But you know what I'm saying?
Jamal Crawford
They owe me, man.
Josh Smith
They owe me, too. They owe me a couple times. They owe me from that situation.
Jamal Crawford
They owe me recover from that.
Josh Smith
No, no, I'm talking about even if. No, that was the one, bro. He had to sit here so much on fire, bro. Oh, my God.
Jamal Crawford
I don't think people listen to me. I ain't seen a lot of people. People.
Josh Smith
I ain't never seen it.
Sports Announcer
Like.
Jamal Crawford
I ain't really get a chance to see Jordan play. I saw AI at the end, bro. We didn't have TV like that, but my phone even watching. You feel me? We weren't going no games, bro. I actually got a chance to see vent. I used to hear stories. I used to. We used to sit down and watch this as a family.
Josh Smith
I'm in high school. I'm in high school.
Jamal Crawford
Greatest, greatest thing we ever had, bro.
Joe Johnson
Yeah.
Jamal Crawford
Man, I ain't seen nothing like it.
Joe Johnson
Yeah, I know you feel me. Hey, listen, hold on.
Jamal Crawford
Super bowl, we needed that, man. Listen, 28.
Josh Smith
Three, too, man. I was in China. That was. That was crazy, bro.
Jamal Crawford
I remember. Let me tell you something. Let me break it down for you. I was talking so much. Let me tell you something. This is why I'm so mad, bro. Cause them could have walked my ass in there, bro. Them were like 40 deep. I'm in there saying, boy, you know me.
Joe Johnson
This ain't absolutely. Yeah, yeah.
Jamal Crawford
It's all that and we playing,
Mike Bibby
bro.
Jamal Crawford
It's three of 28. Three. I'm talking so much cash money. I'm like, you know what? I'm gonna go take a smoke break. I'm chilling. We won this by third quarter. My energy chain by the fourth quarter. I remember this like it was yesterday. Cause we done transferred spots to go watch the game. Now I'm at a whole nother nigga house.
Joe Johnson
But I'm glued to the tv, though,
Jamal Crawford
J. I'm like, we down in four minutes.
Mike Bibby
List.
Jamal Crawford
When he caught the ball on his helmet.
Joe Johnson
Yeah.
Jamal Crawford
My heart started being fastest. Listen. Because I knew something was up. I said, I know they not about to do this. I know they not about to do this, man. Them folks scored again. Game. And the score was still 28. Them folk came all the way back from Three Point. All we had to do was go 1:10 down, and we stopped doing everything we were doing in the first quarter. That why. That why I love the Falcon, but. But y' all ripped my heart out my chair then, boy.
Joe Johnson
Oh, man. Hey, hey, hey. Y' all know I know, man. Hey, hey, I apologize, bro. Cause they built that Mercedes, that beautiful stadium right after that, thinking they were gonna make it right back. Yeah, I mean, I ain't trying to rub it in on y'.
Danny Green
All.
Joe Johnson
I'm just saying, bro, why I like going to the game.
Jeremy Evans
Hold on.
Jamal Crawford
What.
Josh Smith
What are you, though? Can I. Are you.
Joe Johnson
I'm a Cowboy fan. I ain't gonna lie to y'. All. I'm a Cowboy fan. Listen, D.C. hey, I'm. I'm from. I'm from. Yeah.
Sports Announcer
Hey, hey.
Joe Johnson
I'm from Little Rock, bro. So, you know. Amen. The closest thing to us is Dallas, bro. I've been a Cowboy fan. I was born in it. You know what I'm saying?
Jamal Crawford
I understand that.
Joe Johnson
So, listen, I don't know if we play the Falcon this year, but if we do, man, me, you, and Smooth can, you know, put a little something on it, you know?
Josh Smith
Oh, Absolutely.
Danny Green
I don't.
Josh Smith
You know, I don't mind.
Jamal Crawford
Oh, you talking about on the Falcons.
Joe Johnson
Yeah, you gonna. I know you gonna bet.
Josh Smith
We gotta get our quarterback situation.
Joe Johnson
Hold on, hold on, hold on. You don't think they gonna.
Josh Smith
Oh, man.
Joe Johnson
Excuse me.
Jamal Crawford
Why you keep doing it? Why y' all keep doing it?
Joe Johnson
Hold on.
Jamal Crawford
Same conversation every year. Do you think we know.
Joe Johnson
No, hold up.
Jamal Crawford
I'm gonna tell you when I'm telling you. What we gonna have to do is, first of all, we gotta stop. I don't know. What's our quarterback status now?
Josh Smith
That's what I'm trying to figure out.
Commercial Voice/Advertiser
Previous.
Joe Johnson
Oh, yes, sir.
Jamal Crawford
Are giving guaranteed money to injured players who was already injured coming off the injury list. Let me tell you something. We ain't had a quarterback to finish a season, so let that sink in. And he got guaranteed money.
Joe Johnson
Amen.
Jamal Crawford
So who money is that when. I'm not gonna keep doing that. I'm gonna go watch these hulks, and y' all gonna have to tell me about it later.
Joe Johnson
Hey, hey, hold on, hold on. Speaking. Speaking of that. Hey, what? Hey, hey. We got a video I want to show man. You jumped off the trampoline. That.
Jamal Crawford
Come on, baby.
Commercial Voice/Advertiser
Good.
Josh Smith
Right there. But this is what.
Jeremy Evans
Hold on.
Joe Johnson
Here we go. Hey, y', all, check this out right here.
Josh Smith
Yeet.
Joe Johnson
Hey, D.C. tell the truth. That it's a lot harder than what people think, though, ain't it?
Jamal Crawford
Hey, people don't understand, first of all, you, you, you.
Josh Smith
It's a lot of pressure.
Jamal Crawford
People act like they ain't watching, but they watching you almost 15, 20ft away from the goal, bro.
Joe Johnson
You hear me?
Jamal Crawford
You ain't. No. So when them Bobby doing them flips, you got to respect that. You feel me? I missed the first one. I had to time it. But once I got it, oh, I was up.
Jeremy Evans
Yeah.
Josh Smith
Yeah.
Joe Johnson
Hey, hey, hey. When y' all think about those times, you know, Bill, before we traded for you to come to the Hawks, bro, you know, me being a huge fan of your game, obviously, Arizona and everything that you did in Sacramento. When you think about those Sacramento teams that you played on, bro, early in your career, what you think made those teams so special? Bib? I mean, obviously, the chemistry y' all had and, you know, your high IQ for the game, the way y' all passed the ball, the way y' all made the game easier for one another. What do you think? What was so special about those Kings?
Mike Bibby
We genuinely liked each other. You know what I mean? So that's why. That's what it seemed like, that's why I tried to bring. When I came to Atlanta. Like, even, like, we gamble on the plane, you know, we'll fuck around on the plane. We'll, you know, go to dinner and stuff like that. I just wanted to make sure everybody would hang out with each other and really liked each other, you know, like, us going to the mall. Like, come on, everybody, put your shit down. Let's go to the mall. We gonna hang out. Everybody just shoot the shit in a little bit. But that was the thing we competed, though. Like, when practice, that second squad that we used to have, like, Scott Pollard, Bobby Jackson, Hedo Turkoglu, they used to beat our ass in practice.
Joe Johnson
You know what I mean?
Mike Bibby
And so that used to get us ready as far as, like, okay, shit. We know that, like, once. If we don't have. If we don't start out good with Howard plays. We knew Webb was the alpha dog on the team. We just knew coming in, like, we just had to make sure we show up when.
Josh Smith
When.
Mike Bibby
When he needed us.
Joe Johnson
Yeah. Hey, man, it was fun watching you guys. It was fun playing against y'. All. I never forget, bro. I mean, from C. Webb to Vladi Dbotts to Doug Christie, those guys were hell of a passers and IQ through the roof. And then you add you to that mix, bro, y' all was just a hell of a team. Think about Those legendary Kings vs Lakers battles. Tell us a little bit about those battles, bro. Knowing.
Narrator/Announcer
Hey, hey.
Joe Johnson
Knowing what we know now. You know what I'm saying? Smooth. Knowing the history of the game, y' all may have been robbed a little bit.
Jamal Crawford
A little bit.
Joe Johnson
Do you honestly. Hold on, hold on, hold on, hold on. Do you honestly think it was really.
Mike Bibby
You seen that shit, man? Look, that's a whole. That could change my whole. That could have changed my whole career. You know, I was rolling at that point. Now, what if. Now what if it looks like if I get. We go to the Finals, I get Finals mvp. That's gonna look a whole. A whole lot better on my resume than the shit I got now.
Joe Johnson
Oh, no. Listen, Bib, I ain't gonna lie to you. Y' all probably should have had one boy. Nah, nah, nah, nah. Cause y' all had a whip. Y' all had a whip. I'm talking about, man. Listen, I ain't think. I didn't think nobody could beat that Lakers, Kobe and Shaq. But, Bruh, when I tell y', all, push him to the brink. Obviously, under certain circumstances, maybe y' all would have won it, but, man, that Was a pleasure to watch, you know what I mean? Cause I was a young buck. I was just coming into the league in. In 01, bro. You know, that was everything to me, to see great, great basketball like that played at the highest level.
Mike Bibby
Just to be a part. Just to be a part of that. I think Shaq's the biggest, the best big man that ever played a game. You know, Kobe is top two for me. Just to be in those battles and going to LA and seeing all those movie stars and the guys that you look up to, you know, in the movies, coming and cheering against you, knowing we had them beat. I mean, I couldn't ask for nothing else, man, but, like, I'm gonna. I wanna pump you guys up a little bit too, you know? I mean, coming to you guys, I mean, it was probably the easiest games that I have had to play, you know what I mean? Like, they always talk about my defense, how bad my defense was, but shit, I didn't have to be good, you know what I mean? I got smooth back there, you know what I mean? So that blocked out a lot of stuff and like. And send screens for you, Joe. A lot of these guys, a lot of these point guards. I said the best. I thought I used to set the best screens.
Joe Johnson
Oh, hold up, Bibby, Bibby, Bibby, hold up. I've never in life, even playing with Nash Marbury, Kenny Anderson. I played with some greats. Boy, ain't nobody said no screen. How you set a screen, you hear me? That boy ain't nothing but chess over there. Boy do so smooth. What wrong with. He don't do number bitch press when he go in the gym. Now he in the weight room.
Josh Smith
Ain't no luck like a coma.
Joe Johnson
Hey, hey, he in the weight room. And that boy gonna say the mean ski a mean screen. I ain't gonna lie to you.
Mike Bibby
That's it. But that shit, no. No one ever wanted to switch, you know what I mean? I always had a little guy on me, so I set a screen and he was not. He did not want none of you, Joe. And he would Joe have a wide open jump shot and whatever. I mean, even with smooth. So, I mean, like, even playing with you guys, man, it kind of changed my game too. It's like, you know, I looked up and like, Atlanta was like. Atlanta and Sacramento's are two best places that I've been. The two best teams that I played on. You know, like, I still talk to you guys. I still, you know, talk to Jamal when I see him. I saw AC Law A couple weekends ago.
Joe Johnson
Hold on, hold on, hold on. That's saying a lot, bro. You play. You played with the Heat with D. Wade Braun. You went to New York. Look, man, you giving up?
Mike Bibby
Yeah, I mean, that's the. I mean, being there and being with you guys, like, the most fun I had, like, as far as being on the court and playing basketball, like, that's the way I wanted to play. I got out with this all fast break. I mean, I could think you could look at the highlights of me and smooth. I was throwing that bitch from anywhere. I just took.
Joe Johnson
He just throw that shit up, and
Mike Bibby
I know he's gonna get in, like, playing with you, Joe. Just know a guy that's gonna get it. And all I had to do is go find an open spot because they gonna double team you. You know what I mean? And I was like, shit, I just got knocked down. Shots. I want to say, I remember smooth.
Joe Johnson
Remember that bet we had?
Mike Bibby
Remember y' all said, smooth. You not to shoot 10 threes all season.
Joe Johnson
Remember we were just talking about that with Jeff the other day?
Josh Smith
Yeah, yeah. I think I shot about six of them. Remember, I was supposed to be the All Star Game?
Joe Johnson
He should have been an All Star.
Mike Bibby
He came down, was like, dip. That wasn't a three.
Joe Johnson
I didn't shoot a three.
Mike Bibby
I said, smooth.
Joe Johnson
I ain't keeping stats.
Jamal Crawford
He gonna see me stand after the game.
Mike Bibby
He like, mike, I didn't shoot no 3. I didn't shoot no 3. We had the most fun there, man, being there, being with you guys. And like, Joe, I'm the only one that could stop. I don't remember if you remember.
Joe Johnson
Oh, man. Hold on, hold on. So right before the game, right before the buzzer, by the sign, starting lineup, probably about the last five to six minutes. Me and Bill play one on one every game. We used to play one on one before.
Mike Bibby
Hey, Joe, hold on a second. My son just came in here. Look.
Joe Johnson
Hey, what's up, bro? Man, I remember. Hey, I remember. Hey, hey.
Mike Bibby
I remember when you was a legit 10 years old.
Joe Johnson
How y' all doing, man?
Mike Bibby
Y' all good?
Joe Johnson
Hey, we good, man. Good to see you, bro. Keep doing your thing. I know you out there.
Mike Bibby
I appreciate that, man. Y'.
Danny Green
All.
Mike Bibby
Good to see y', all, too.
Joe Johnson
Yes, sir.
Narrator/Announcer
Good to see you.
Mike Bibby
So go tell our story, Joe. I used to lock. I'm the only person that can lock you up. So.
Joe Johnson
So? So me and Bib used to play one on one before every game, bro. And it's like, you know, good, good. Honest Defense. He claim he think he the only one who used to lock me up. But we should have some good battles, though, Bib. Hey, hey. Cause you know what? That shit used to get me going before the game. You know what I mean? It get your juices flowing.
Mike Bibby
You couldn't block shots or you couldn't. You couldn't. The rule was you couldn't block the shots and you couldn't do anything. I used to hit him in the top of his head. And we was playing in the. Remember the Big Three? I was fucking y', all, okay? I was like, let me guard him. I can guard him.
Joe Johnson
I'm over there grabbing his arm and
Mike Bibby
pinching him and pulling his head there.
Joe Johnson
Hey, hey, hey, Chad. He talking about when we played in the Big Three and he was playing with the Ghost Ballers. Talking about, let him guard me. Hell. Hey, hey, Smooth. Hey, Smooth. I was handing out buckets like they was skittle. What a man. Here, you have some.
Sports Announcer
You have some.
Josh Smith
You.
Joe Johnson
He was good in my day, but
Mike Bibby
I'm the only one that can stop him, man.
Joe Johnson
Hey, hey, hey, listen. Hey. We had a hell of a time here, bro. Look, you know, Bill, before you got. Before we traded for you, we wasn't in the playoffs yet there. Yet we end up making the ace seed with you, and we end up playing against the Boston Celtics. And we all know how that historic series. We couldn't. We weren't competing worth a damn in Boston. But in Atlanta, boy, they ass couldn't get no dub over here.
Mike Bibby
You hear me?
Josh Smith
At least we. At least we head home now.
Joe Johnson
Hey, hold on. Smooth. Smooth. Bill, no lie. I've never in my life seen Atlanta
Mike Bibby
rocking like that, bro. Me neither, man. Me neither.
Joe Johnson
And they had some good teams trade and took them to the Eastern Conference finals. I ain't never seen that building jumping like that.
Mike Bibby
We had the highlight factory moving, man. Man, that was some good times, man.
Joe Johnson
Hey. Oh, it was definitely. Definitely.
Mike Bibby
Y' all pay more.
Joe Johnson
Yeah, bro. Oh, man. Come on, bro. Come on. I know I'm the only one that paid more. How crazy. Hey, you gotta chill. Hey, you gotta get my money back. Hey, you gotta chip. Hey, hey, hey, hey. We. We gotta send. We gotta send one prayer, bro. For a good friend. I. Man, Big J, bro. I know we had some great times with Big J. We had some great fun times. We all used to. Go ahead, Smooth. Say it again.
Josh Smith
I said rip to the big fella.
Mike Bibby
Big rv.
Joe Johnson
Oh, man. Oh, man. We used to have some great time. I tell cats all the time how he used to play cards with us two. Me. It used to be me, Bib, Josh and Big J. And we cracking jokes on each other and everything. And if I had a little shindig at the crib, Big J was the first one to show up, bro. So I. Accident. Not accidentally, but I ran into him at an Atlanta Hawks game last season, bro. I don't know if he had already got diagnosed, but, you know, he didn't say nothing about it. And me and him sat there and chopped it up for probably about 10 minutes. It was a game. I can't remember what game it was. And I hadn't seen him since, bro. And then when I heard the news, I was like, damn. And it took me back to all those memories we had on the plane, the bus rides. Because at the end of the day, y' all know, bro, once we stop playing professional, that's the one thing that you really miss. That camaraderie that you have with a cat. Me. Josh, you know what we talking on the plane, the bus, playing cards. And they just made me think back how, man, life is short, bro. But Big J was a great dude. He was a great dude.
Mike Bibby
Real quiet. But who gave him the name Big
Joe Johnson
RV I think you did. You gave everybody nickname, bro. Hey, Smooth. Did you say he was a bad influence, bro?
Josh Smith
Bad influence, man. Called him Alligator Hands. Remember?
Jamal Crawford
He.
Josh Smith
Big J said he used to never. That lotion on you was getting on his head.
Mike Bibby
Skin.
Josh Smith
Grab the cars like that, man.
Joe Johnson
Yeah, yeah.
Josh Smith
They were so dry.
Joe Johnson
Hey, there was days, bro, we had some fun, man. One of the best times I had, man.
Mike Bibby
Like I said, like, no matter what team I played with, I put with you guys and Sacramento up there, man, it was just fun times. It was basketball, you know what I mean? Like, when I went to New York, that shit. My career was over, man. I didn't wanna.
Joe Johnson
I ain't gonna lie to you.
Mike Bibby
I was done playing. Woody was like, mike, come play one more season. I'm like, woody, I'm done, man.
Joe Johnson
He was like.
Mike Bibby
He's like, just come play. I said, woody, I am done. So, like, when I got there, I had no intention of playing no games. I'm not gonna lie to you. So I got there, I was like, man, I'm working out okay. You know, I'm gonna try. I was out there trying, but I just didn't have it in me no more. So I was like, in the games, Woody would be like, you wanna play today? I was like, nah, Woody, I'm cool. Just leave me over here. Don't feel like you need to play me, Woody. I worked out already then, you know, be some games like 4 minutes left. Like you wanna play? Yeah, put me in. Let me go ahead and just run a little bit. So I mean I was done already but I mean it wasn't the same as with you guys and coming there like going to you guys I felt I still like, I felt like I had a little bit left in the tank, you know what I mean? Coming there and just playing with, okay, I'm the older guy on the team. Let me try to see if I could rejuvenate these guys and you know, get em to play. And we kind of got in a paced play. We just played, I mean and it showed like, it showed just the talents that you guys had. And for me to be like a old wheel to come in and just kind of push you guys along, you know, it made my time. Like I said, that was one of the best times of my career being Atlanta with y'. All.
Joe Johnson
Yeah. Hey, hey, we appreciate that bro. We had a great time. Not not only just playing on the court, but off the court as well. Life was great.

Hey, it's Angela Yee from Lip Service. In a special mini episode, we're talking about why open, honest conversations matter, from relationships and identity to sexual health and HIV prevention. Because when we stop treating these topics like taboos, we give ourselves permission to take control of our health and live more openly. I felt like in our community we weren't having these open and honest conversations about sex with no stigma attached to it. A lot of times people could feel like embarrassed to talk about things like sexual preferences, about STIs, what we're doing in the bedroom. And I didn't want to feel like that was taboo for us to be able to do. And so that's really the reason why I started lip service. And I think for all of us, we have to take control of knowing that we care about our health more than anybody else ever will. You can listen to this special episode of Lip Service, sponsored by Care for the Culture from Gilead sciences on the iHeartRadio app or wherever you get your podcasts.
Joe Johnson
Hey, NBA players. Achilles tendon tears are linked to small spikes in playing time, study finds. A recent study found that players log more minutes than their season averages during the 10 to 15 games before their Achilles tendons rupture. What do you guys think about Achilles tear?
Mike Bibby
Smooth.
Joe Johnson
You tore your Achilles in the big three. Hold on before you get to your story, Jeremy, he tore his Achilles in the big three. Guess who had to wheel him through the airport. Yeah, look how God work. Look, I see. I, I, I, I, I come to the airport, I see Smooth. He's struggling and bugging. He had a wheelchair. I'm like, damn, what going on? I said, come on man, let me get that, man. Roll that man up there. Hey, hey, Smooth. Tell us, man. Tell us about that Achilles tendon tear, bro.
Josh Smith
It's nothing to play with, man. It's no joke.
Joe Johnson
I'm saying, did you feel. Before you tore it, did you feel anything like. Did you feel it getting weak? Did you have any problems a week prior or it just. It was normal?
Josh Smith
No, I didn't. I mean, I think. I think I. When I dunked the ball. Cause I haven't did it in a long time. I think it probably put my body in the shot, you know what I'm saying? You know what I mean? Like, kind of like, you know, when I was playing the big three, I already had my mind made up on how I was gonna play it. I wasn't trying to go 100%, you know what I'm saying? You already know it's a great league, but, you know, you gotta be able to. You don't want. You don't want to go out like, you don't want to blow a tire like that.
Joe Johnson
Yeah, I already.
Josh Smith
In that type of environment, you know what I'm saying? I would have rather did it in the NBA if I was going to do it, you know what I'm saying? But for me to be able to have a healthy career like that and then go to the big three and then do that, it was kind of like I didn't pick a ball up for a minute. But hey, I don't know. Them low shoe I used to wear, like mids and highs. I don't know. I'm trying to blame all kind of stuff. Maybe cause I had some lows on or. I don't know, man. I don't know how it happened, but I pump faked it and tried to pull off that right, but it failed.
Jamal Crawford
I looked.
Joe Johnson
I'm saying, did you look back, you thought somebody tripped you like it normally happened? Yeah.
Josh Smith
When I looked back and I ain't see nobody there, I was like. I knew what it was. I just shook my head, man. I was like. I couldn't believe it, man.
Joe Johnson
Listen, when we were playing here for The Atlanta Hawks 2000, this had to be 2009. Jeremy. I was sitting out. I don't know if Smooth remember this, but they had set me out for like a week. Smooth. Y' all went on west coast trip. I think you, you, you had done cut up, you had done balled out. West coast trip. I was here in Atlanta with Wally Blaze getting treatment every day.
Josh Smith
It was your calf, right?
Joe Johnson
Yeah, it was my Calf. My calf was sore. I had a knot. I literally had a knot in my Achilles in the middle of my Achilles. And Doc told me. He was like, it's gonna pop if you keep playing. So they end up shutting me down, Jeremy. So the team going off. I'm just going to the arena every day, just getting treatment, me and Wally Blaze. And after about two days of treatment, I'm like, blaze, man, I gotta break a sweat, bro. I ain't broke no sweat. Like, they gonna come back off this road trip. You know, they gonna throw me back out there. I'm already 35, 40 minutes a night. You know what's gonna happen. He was like. Cause, you know, with that type of injury. Smooth, Jeremy. You can't. It's hard to walk, let alone jog. Get on a bike. You can't do none of that. Like, when that thing inflamed, it's a rap, bro. You know what I mean? So. So he said. He said, man, you should come try high yoga with me and my wife. I look at him, general like, man, I ain't finna do no damn hot yoga. That's exactly what I told him, man. Finna do no damn hot yoga. And boom. I grabbed my badge, move, I left. His wife called me on the way to the crib. She was like, joe, I think you should come try the hot yoga. It'll loosen up your quad muscles, take the pressure off your knees, It'll loosen up your hamstring, take the pressure off your low back. It'll loosen up your calf muscles, and it'll take the pressure off your Achilles. So I'm like, all right, she done told me something. Now I'm willing to do anything to get back right, get back healthy. Y' all finna come back off the road. Smooth. I'm ready to get back out there, get to some action, right? Boom. Jeremiah going there. I meet them up there, we do the hot yoga class, bro. I've never in life sweated this hard in my life, bro. I felt like a totally different person after class. After class, I'm talking about. I felt like my movement was better. My body had done opened up. You know what I mean? I ain't healed. I still got some aches and pains, but I feel pretty damn good. Boom. Blaze, tell me. He said, just meet me at the arena the next day, and we just come follow up with treatment. I said, all right, cool. But I was so geeked. I'm like, man, I'm going back tomorrow. Cause I felt good. I felt like if I Go two days in a row.
Jeremy Evans
I.
Joe Johnson
He was like, nah, don't go two days in a row. Just come to the ring and get treatment. I was like, all right, cool. But I still went anyway. I ain't telling, man. I almost passed out in class. Cause I ain't understand hydration. Hydration. I ain't understand how to hydrate, how to replenish the body. Because hot yoga, although it's a detox and it takes all the bad out. Hell, it takes all the good too. So you have to put the good back in. I ain't understand that early. I'm just going, you know what I mean? I'm getting my little stretch on. Cause I wasn't flexible at all. I couldn't like, you know, touch my toes or none of that. And without flexibility, you know, you bound to get injured. You know what I mean? That's what they kept telling me. So, man, I took a liking in the yoga, bro, for Wally Blaze who hooked me up. But if it wasn't for that, I probably would have had a real major Achilles. I'm talking about. I literally had a knot in mind like I couldn't even walk in the morning, bro. That's how bad I it was. So hopefully, you know, we don't have no more Achilles tears to, you know, none of our top guys in the league, bro. But it's unfortunate because this is what we talk about. Jeremy and Smooth, you know, these guys take the regular season. They just kind of take it as a joke. Not necessarily as a joke, but they don't really take it that serious. They want to, you know, hurry up and get to the postseason. Well, when we get to the postseason and you out there going full throttle, and you ain't went full throttle all damn year, that's when we starting to see these tears. Because every possession is idle at an all time high, you know what I mean? Like you playing your hardest, like you. So I can kind of see how these Achilles tears are happening, but I hope they can crack down on it. Man, I seen my boy Dame Lillard. I see he been in the gym. He look good, man. He look like he getting back. And you seen him, Jeremy, man, that
Danny Green
man, that gym every day, every day, working hard. Got it, man. Gotta admire it. For sure.
Joe Johnson
I do, bro. You know, you feel so good.
Josh Smith
I've seen the running some 17s like you back, back in high school.
Joe Johnson
I seen it too, bro.
Jamal Crawford
Yeah.
Danny Green
And don't sleep on what's going on up there in Portland right now.
Sports Announcer
What you mean?
Joe Johnson
What's Going on.
Josh Smith
What?
Joe Johnson
What you got?
Danny Green
You, you. You see what they just did in the first round? You getting Dame back.
Joe Johnson
And they just made a move.
Danny Green
Man, them people.
Joe Johnson
Hold on, hold on, hold on, hold on, hold on, hold on.
Danny Green
Them people doing something.
Joe Johnson
They went and got Ja, Jeremy. They can't keep all them guards. You got School Henderson, you got Drew Holiday. You can't run for some.
Danny Green
Gotta change. But what they got up there, they got some up there.
Joe Johnson
They got some. But here's the question.
Danny Green
Second round team for sure.
Joe Johnson
Hold on, hold on, hold on. They got some. But here's the question. Will Ja, as great as he is with the ball in his hand, smooth, would Ja be able to play off ball? Cause we know Dame can play off ball. Hell, he can catch and shoot with the best of them.
Josh Smith
That's what I was about to say he has. We gotta see what Job been doing as far as his floor space. Can he catch a shoot? Can he space the floor like how you said Dame can do? Or like how can do? Drew done mastered the art of space in the floor as well. So that's going to be the next evolution, next step of seeing that's the only way that this whole thing is going to be able to work. If guys are able to play off ball a little bit, let the other guy kind of like run the offense or be able to get touch paint whenever. To be able to make teammates better as well, too. To kind of take that pressure off a job of other guards.
Joe Johnson
Yeah, yeah. And you know, hey, y' all both know, man, the point guard position nowadays is at a premium. Meaning, man, if you can't score the ball, hell, if you can't shoot the ball. And that's my only concern. Jeremy, when we talk about Portland, Josh, three point percentage has been bad, bro. I think he had. I think he low 20s, man, if
Danny Green
I ain't mistaken, you don't have jobs. Had him take more off the dribble. And Memphis, he ain't had nobody, can get off the ball and handle that ball and create for him. Now you getting up there to Portland, where you got. Dana's going to handle the ball. You got Drew that can handle the ball, and you got Scoop. Whether they bring him off the bench or not, that can also create open shots for him. I'm not saying he gonna go up there and shoot 45%, but when Dame's shooting that ball at the clip, he's going to shoot it at. They gotta help off somebody. And that's an easier shot for Ja to take his Time. And I'm sure he's in the gym. Cause he's got some get back he wants to get. I'm sure for sure he want to get some.
Joe Johnson
I want to see Ja get back to having fun, man. Enjoying the game, smiling, you know, doing his little celebration antics. But I ain't gonna lie to y', all, bro. I ain't gonna lie. I'm a little worried. Cause, you know, it's a lot different when he was in Memphis and he had the ball in his hands every damn possession. So it ain't really. It ain't really that hard, you know, to get in rhythm. Now you in Portland, you got. You gonna have at least two other elite guards next to you, meaning Dame Lillard, Drew Holliday, or School Hen, you're gonna have at least two of them. And I don't know if the rep's gonna be enough, bro. I'm gonna be honest with y'.
Angela Yee
All.
Joe Johnson
I don't know if the rep's gonna be enough for him to really get in ref form, for him to really kind of get that. Gain that confidence back. I hope it is. But if he struggles with shooting, with shooting, the shooting the basketball, you know, playing off these guys, it's gonna be a lot tougher than what I think people anticipate, bro.
Danny Green
I think they got, I think they got better. I think they got better players around them now. Like Danny. Danny has come on at a.
Joe Johnson
That's exactly what I'm saying. You.
Danny Green
But, but they make that move. They gotta let him be who he is. They gotta let him be who he is. Because if you don't.
Josh Smith
I think, But I think, I think he's the. He's the only point guard out of all those four that could just touch paint whenever he wants to, though. So he, he, he creates a different type of advantage over the rest of those guards. Cause, you know, you gotta like, like Damian Lillard's coming off of a ACR injury. But even before that, he wasn't really trying to go to the hole and, and touch paint for real like that. He was doing step back jump shots and shooting deep threes.
Joe Johnson
Yeah.
Josh Smith
You know, I think Drew Holiday is more of a setup guard, but he's getting older, so I don't think, you know, touching paint at will is part of his game anymore.
Danny Green
Yeah.
Josh Smith
And, you know, School Henderson, he's another guy that could touch paint as well, but I haven't seen him be an elite playmaker yet. So I would like to see him take the next step of being more of an elite playmaker, you know, because he has the athleticism and the physicality to be able to get in the paint. But I want to see him make his teammates better as well. See how he can see the floor a little bit better. You know what I mean?
Joe Johnson
Hey, I'm with you on this move. Cause he showed me something. That spurs series in that first round, them first two games in San Antonio, I'm telling you, look, we know the defenders that San Antonio got, they couldn't do nothing with him. That from the first two games, bro.
Josh Smith
Yeah.
Danny Green
Confidence doing that moment when that confidence that. That confidence carrying over into next year.
Joe Johnson
No, hey, yeah, but, but look though, that's what I'm talking about. Like damn school had a great showing in the postseason, but now he coming here, he behind three damn other point guards.
Josh Smith
Yeah.
Joe Johnson
The coach, how he posted, how he supposed to be able to get his off, you feel what I'm saying? So I don't know, man. I hope Portland figure it out. Obviously they got a good problem. Hopefully, you know, all those guys stay healthy. I'm looking forward to a dame. One of my favorite players to watch. So they gonna be a lot of fun. Welcome to on the Field.
