They win 94 to 90, overcome a double double digit another double digit deficit and they end the spurs magical run four games to one thanks to a 9490 come from behind victory. Jalen Brunson was sensational. Thank you guys for joining us for another episode of Nightcap. Y' all know who I am. I'm your favorite UNC and my partner and co host. Please drink responsibly and stay safe for the first time in 53 years, the new York Knicks are the NBA Champions. They defeat the San Antonio Spurs 41 in the NBA Finals, capturing the third championship in franchise history. Spurs starting guard in game five, Castle and Fox combined to shoot 4 of 25 from the floor, 1 from 11 from the three point line and Castle had three turnovers to go along with this one bucket. Uncle Joe, the best player tonight was Dylan Harper and he came up the bench 10 of 19 from the floor, two or four from three, three or five. He had five rebounds, four assists. I thought he played an unbelievable ball game. We'll get into the nuts and bolts of it. Ojo, this is about your Knicks. You can go ahead and take off about your Knicks. Jalen Brunson played 41 minutes. Yeah, 41 of the 48 minutes, 45 points on 14 of 27 shooting four seven from the three three, 13 of 15 from the free throw line and he was a plus 10. But he had an unbelievable he had. He picked the night to have his best game of this postseason and they win it thanks to the big night that he had because he outscored all the starters. As a matter of fact, he damn near outscored the entire team by himself. Yes, they had 94. He scored 45. Ocho, what did you like about what you saw from the Knicks and how again how they overcame a double digit deficit and they got to get this win?
Guest Analyst (Possibly Chad Johnson)
Listen, once again we've seen it multiple times. Uncle Joe, I'm not Gonna gloat. I'm not gonna talk no trash because I told everybody how it was gonna go all playoff series long. I told, I said Nicks and six. Matter of fact, they sped it up a game early because the Puerto Rican Day parade is tomorrow. So they Puerto Rican Day parade. So that, that, that's my bad.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
That's my.
Guest Analyst (Possibly Chad Johnson)
Outside of that, Outside of that, I told you Jaylen Brunson was special. We've seen the Knicks come back down 22 down double digit points a few times. Not in just this series, but serum before. And if you watch him during the regular season, we've also also seen them close down on huge gaps and point different point differentials, you know, during the season. So the fact that I see a lot of people are shocked when it happened time to time and we, we say what the other teams are doing wrong. Let's talk about what the Knicks are doing right. Let's talk about what the Knicks are doing right to be able to, to keep this happening. One thing I want to mention too, Uncle Joe, remember when I said all the noise and all the, all the stuff that was surrounding Darian Fox?
Joe (Host/Analyst)
Yeah, yeah, dear.
Guest Analyst (Possibly Chad Johnson)
Yeah. I guarantee you coming to this game, he gonna be gun shy and he's not gonna shoot. Well, how do you look tonight, huh?
Joe (Host/Analyst)
Look terrible.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Yeah.
Guest Analyst (Possibly Chad Johnson)
Joe. What, What? I tell you what's going to happen, people. I mean players, we always say we don't hear the noise. The first thing he said was, I don't care what the outside thinks. Soon as I came on the show, the first thing I said, his mental gonna be tested. What is this mental like? And if he, if, if his mental ain't strong, he gonna look. He gonna look terrible. Terrible in this game. And look. And lo and behold, I was right yet again. Ain't that something outside that? Congratulation to. Congratulations to the Knicks fans. Congratulations to the Knicks in general. Jalen Brunson, you are now s. In the in.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
I mean, oh my God. Oh my God.
Guest Analyst (Possibly Chad Johnson)
He's a God here in New York now. I'm not sure. I may be tripping, bro.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
He was named. Before you go any further, Jalen Brunson was just named finals mvp.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Wow.
Guest Analyst (Possibly Chad Johnson)
I would hope so. Hey, hey, even, even Ray Charles can see that, huh? Hey, Joe. I'm not gonna talk no trash, Joe, you know, because I told you it was gonna happen. So I, I'm used to being right. So I'm not gonna gloat. I'm not gonna gloat. I guarantee you. I don't know what the mayor needs to do. I don't know what President Trump may need to do, but they need to take the Statue of Liberty, right?
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Yeah.
Guest Analyst (Possibly Chad Johnson)
And etch out the face and put Jalen Brunson up there.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Hey, bro. Ocho.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
Yes, sir.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
First off, salute.
Guest Analyst (Possibly Chad Johnson)
Yeah.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
New York Knicks, bro. I mean, not. Not even just this final series, but throughout the whole entire playoffs, bro.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
They.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
They prevail. And hell, I had them underdog. I mean, I had them losing every damn series after I be 100 with you.
Guest Analyst (Possibly Chad Johnson)
You did, Joe. You did.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
They gave.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Hey, hey. But in this finals, they really showed me something, Ocho. Just, just. I mean, being down double figures in every game. They were down 16 tonight, fellas.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
16 at one point. They were down 10 points in the fourth with about 7, 6, 6. Seven minutes to go. Joe.
Guest Analyst (Possibly Chad Johnson)
Come on.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Hey, hey, hey. And guess what? As I'm watching the game, I'm like, they ain't gonna fool me no more. I know these boys gonna come back. This what they do. Yeah. Hey, hey, hey. Jalen Brunson, 15 points in the fourth quarter. Uncle. Oo. I'm talking about. It seemed like. I know he had a good game because he had it going pretty much the whole game.
Guest Analyst (Possibly Chad Johnson)
Yes, sir.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
But I mean, time and time again, bro, he comes up clutch in the fourth quarters, being most clutch player in the NBA. He showed it to you in that fourth quarter, bro. All he need to do is for y' all to keep us around. Yeah.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
Keep us close.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Keep us close, and we got something that they don't got, and that's. That's a closer, bro. He's shown that. I mean, hell, for the past few years, but, but, but, but for sure, in this postseason, especially in this series, man, I ain't got nothing bad to say about the Knicks. I think it. I think it's great that they won. I think it's great for basketball.
Guest Analyst (Possibly Chad Johnson)
Yes, sir.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
But if you. The spurs, there's some positive you can take from this, bro. There's some growth and some maturity you can take from this. You know what I mean?
Joe (Host/Analyst)
Yeah. Dylan Harper's I starting point, guarded. We're going to try to move on from Darren Fox. That's the positive they're going to take.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
I already told. I've been telling you, Ocho there, I've been telling you.
Guest Analyst (Possibly Chad Johnson)
Hold on. Wait, wait a minute. Wait a minute. Before you say that, now, I know it's. I know it's easier said than done. Now, you got to understand that big money kicking next year for Darius on that new, on that max deal.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Yeah.
Guest Analyst (Possibly Chad Johnson)
Who willing to take on that 51.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
Somebody be able to take it because he, I mean he's played well. He's a two time allstar. He had a bad finals. Yes, but he's a, he's a, he's a good player. He's a really good player.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
I don't know. But, but, but my thing. I'm not, I'm not so opposed to trading them though. I, I ain't gonna. I don't mind keeping him around. I just think Vel or Champen, one of them gonna have to start come coming off the bench. I mean I just don't know how gonna be able to keep Harper on the bench, bro. He was the most composed player that you had out there on the floor tonight as a Rookie. As a 20 year old rookie, bro. I'm talking about giving them boys the bit at.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
Hear me?
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
I'm talking about what nothing they could do with him. Hey man.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
Guards with a 45 point and a closeout game in the finals since the merger. Michael Jordan, Jalen Brunson. That's it.
Guest Analyst (Possibly Chad Johnson)
Hey Joe. Hey, Joe and uncle. I can ask y' all a question real quick.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Yes, sir.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
Huh?
Guest Analyst (Possibly Chad Johnson)
You think y' all could have given me an apology and say, you know,
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
man, damn all that. Hey, oh, oh, listen, listen. Nobody trying to hear all that. Look, look, look. Shout out Jalen Brunson for winning mvp. I mean what a story to have his dad play on the last team that made it to the finals. And Rick Brunson to being his assistant coach and them sharing this moment, bro. Come on, man. Hey, hey, hey, hey. This go. Y' all already know in New York. They plotting on something. This is a story, man. It's a movie.
Guest Analyst (Possibly Chad Johnson)
Well, I'm here, Joe.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
I'm here.
Guest Analyst (Possibly Chad Johnson)
I can hear it outside.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Yeah, this a movie.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
He, Jalen BRUNSON, he averaged 28 and a half, 28.4 for the playoffs. He averaged 32.6 for the finals. He was an All Star, All NBA and now he's a champion. I think the thing is, is look, when you're two guys, your two starting guards and they combine for 13 points and shoot for 25, the mere fact that you only lose by four is a feat in and of itself. Well, I think the thing is that you look at it because really for the, for the law, there a point where Jalen Brunson had 28 points and his teammates had. He had 25. And I think his teammates had 28. Yeah, so they had Done a great job containing everybody else. They just couldn't contain him. And nobody, I mean, you see, Dylan Harper had a chance to tie it up. A joke. Yeah, he's short the layup.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Yeah.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
Darren Fox, I mean, he just. He just kept clanking and kept clanking and kept clanking. Yeah, he was awful tonight.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Yeah.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
And the problem, and the thing is, and I understand a man Wimby's height, it is hard for him to get properly conditioned with. But he's got to get better, Joe.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Yeah, he's got to get better and I think that'll get better with time. Like, y' all gotta understand now, he's still learning too, you know.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
Yeah, he.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Hey, look, he's. He was at the, the peak as far as almost, you know, playing in the finals. Bro, that'll do something to you. I think it's gonna change him. It's gonna change his approach. Obviously he'll get his base a lot stronger because for me it's all about the lower body for him. Uncle Ocho.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
Yeah.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Yeah. You know, he. He got. He gotta get. Keep them hips and them quads and he gotta keep all this is. This is gonna be, you know, carbon copy of teams when they play them. When they play the spurs now. Hell, we gotta.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
We. Hey, hey.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
We can't just live.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
Gotta be physical with him. On him a little bit.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Can't let him run.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
And the thing is, Joe, you watch him tonight, he was very, very content to shoot fallaway jumpers.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Yeah.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
You see, again, he got tired. What he tried to do, Joe, they give him a perfect love.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Yeah.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
All he got to do is grab it and dunk it. What he try to do.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Yeah.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
Got it in.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Yeah.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
That's when. That is a great sign for him because you watch. And I'm trying to. When I watch a game, I'm trying to see if there's a tail that I can pick up that I can like, I can use as a tidbit. The tale for him is that when he gets tired, he no longer tries to catch the ball, he tries to guide it.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Yeah.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
And. But I think the thing is tonight is that he couldn't get rest like he could in other series once they got a lead. Because once he left the floor, they eat. They eat up into the league. And so Coach Johnson didn't feel comfortable keeping on on the bench for any length of time. Cornette was awful.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
A terrible.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
There's no way. There's no. I can't put. And. And I hate saying this, cuz guys, we were all athletes. But he was God awful.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Come on, man.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
This entire series.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Oh, oh, man. Come on, man. They, I know, man. Come on. Hey, Luke Cornett ain't been there since he been hollering about since he canceled Magic City night here in la.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
Yeah, yeah.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
He ain't been hitting on nothing, man. I can't, did you see that? The minutes that he giving, bro, I'm talking about, they have no interior presence when he's in there.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
I, I, I'd have felt better, better going with Kelly Olenek, man.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Come on, bro, straight up.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
I mean, I'd have felt better going with Kelly Olenek. Oo, in a game of this magnitude, the two guards can't go 4 for 25. They just can't. They can't and they can't. And they can't go one from 11 for the three. Listen, they can't.
Guest Analyst (Possibly Chad Johnson)
Hey, Uncle Joe, I, I told you it was gonna happen with brother Darian Fox. The noise, the noise was too much for him. I, I knew it and I, I understood that moment. And as bad as everyone was talking about him, not just us, I'm talking about everybody. It was, it was headline news on every sports channel.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
Yes.
Guest Analyst (Possibly Chad Johnson)
I was like, that's why when I came on the show, Joe, the first thing I said was, ain't no way in hell he gonna come out there and play normal. And that first thing I said, hey, he gonna be gunshot. And if he's not gunshot, he's not gonna shoot well because there's no way to recover that, recover from that in just a two day span. It's impossible because it's already in your head. It's like when you drop a ball.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
Yep.
Guest Analyst (Possibly Chad Johnson)
And it just, you, you don't, you don't let it go and have a short term memory. And the next ball that come, it beats you up again, man.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
That's normally how it happens. And you got a night where Cat had two points and files out. I mean, he was three of 11. OG had his worst game. He didn't play particularly well. He didn't play well at all. OG did not play well tonight. Considering how he played in the previous four games and how he played in the previous series, this was by far OG's worst performance. But all that being said, Josh Hart was Josh Hart. 13 points, 11 boards, two assists, only one turnover, three offensive re, three offensive rebounds. You get Mikhail Bridges doing what he normally does. He gave you 14 tonight, two rebounds, four assists a block. Those guys. And look at this. You got, you got nine bench points nine bench points from the Knicks. Yeah, you got 32. 25 of them came from Dylan Harper. Seven came from Kelton Johnson. I just think the thing is, Ojo and Joe, they. They are young team. Kelton Johnson is going to realize that, bro, every time you get in a situation, you don't have to go one on one. Carter, Bryant, every time you get a one on one, you don't have to go one on one. So you gotta. They're gonna learn. And sometimes you have to learn the hard way. Yeah, sometimes the lessons that we have to learn, we have to learn the hard way. We don't get an opportunity to learn seeing somebody else falter. We have to go through that. And this is a prime example. But the Knicks, and I'm looking up like, damn, they up again by 10, man. 16. I was like, oh, my goodness. I was like. And I remember saying, okay, Knicks. Yeah. No case. Spurs. You got seven minutes for your line.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
It just started dwindling. It's like. It's like the inopportune time something can happen. It's like. It's like two of them, two spurs going for the rebound. The ball right here. Win be so tired, he go out
Joe (Host/Analyst)
of bounds, and it knocks it out of bounds. And they come back and hear the three. Yes, Joe, yes.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Yeah, it's like, you know that. So. So it's like when we talk about value and possessions in the postseason, in the playoffs, that's what we talking about, bro. Like, it's that small of a mar. Winning and losing off of that little rebound. They could have took y' all down there to get a good shot, you know, versus them, just y'.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
All.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
That turnover led to a three. Yeah. Which cuts deep into the league. Now you start to see the tension start to get a lot tighter in the arena. I'm like, man, I'll be down in Brunson.
Guest Analyst (Possibly Chad Johnson)
Hey, Joe. Hey, hey, what's the. What's the name of the. The tournament they have in the middle of the season?
Joe (Host/Analyst)
Oh, you talk about the NBA Cup. Who won the NBA Cup, Won the
Guest Analyst (Possibly Chad Johnson)
NBA cup this year?
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
The Knicks.
Guest Analyst (Possibly Chad Johnson)
And who just won the Larry o' Brien Trophy?
Joe (Host/Analyst)
And who did they beat for the. The NBA Cup?
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
The Spurs.
Guest Analyst (Possibly Chad Johnson)
Now you. Now you see the type of knowledge.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
Why my.
Guest Analyst (Possibly Chad Johnson)
Why my ball knowledge is elite. Because I understood that. I remember that this man act like
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
he just solved a damn jigsaw or something.
Guest Analyst (Possibly Chad Johnson)
Come on, man, I must have had to, because you've been wrong all. All year long. I mean, what you talking about, huh?
Joe (Host/Analyst)
Wimby look, hey, let's stay on the Knicks a little longer, okay? Like Brunson was sensational. This was the, this, I mean I, I, if I'm not mistaken, I don't know how many 40 point games that playoff games that we've had this postseason. I think, I think what you call them had one.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Hey, hey, and, and, and you, you know everybody been talking about at first Towns was going to be the mvp, then it went to an mvp.
Guest Analyst (Possibly Chad Johnson)
Og.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Yeah. Nobody had look this man, it's still a couple.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
Hey, I'm gonna remove all doubt.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Hello.
Guest Analyst (Possibly Chad Johnson)
But this is funny thing about, hey, this is the funny thing about the Knicks though, Uncle. And Joe, every night obviously OG had a good run. OG's had a phenomenal playoff playoff series.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
Yeah, they're not here without og.
Guest Analyst (Possibly Chad Johnson)
But the fact that, the fact that tonight wasn't his night and somebody else always shows up. Hell, in this series, Josh Harding went in double figures. I don't think one game.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Yeah.
Guest Analyst (Possibly Chad Johnson)
All of a sudden tonight he's in double figures and OG doesn't have a good game. And then Jalen Brunson has an outer body experience when it matters most and does what we used to seeing him do and he takes it up a notch.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Yeah.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
Yeah.
Guest Analyst (Possibly Chad Johnson)
According to the game in the moment.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
How many, how many, how many Joe, he get him up in the air on the three point ball as and
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
that's, hey, that's his last move. He after that he ain't got nothing else.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
And guess what? One of them they fired with point three on the clock.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Oh man, listen.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
Bailed him out a couple of times. I I just think the thing is look at, and we we're gonna talk about the Spurs. We're not done with the spurs, but I think we're gonna have to give the Knicks a lot of. Because that guy right there, when you got that guy and everybody's had that guy. The Bulls had Jordan, the, the, the Lakers had Kobe and, and, and the Cavs had, had Braun and D. Wade when he was in his prime. Everybody has always had that one guy. No matter how bad things got. We got a guy that if we can get it close, if we can just reattach.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Yeah.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
He can bring us home.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
You already know it.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
And that they have so much confidence and like I said, look, look, we don't see guys like this. You got to realize Jalen Brunson might be 61 small guys, small guards playoffs. We don't see him take over games like he's been able to do it, Joe.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Nah, we Just.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
We just don't.
Guest Analyst (Possibly Chad Johnson)
Nah.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Hey, and it ain't even just been the finals, man. It's been like the previous two, three years. Uncle Ocho, since he got to New York. Yeah, he's been. He's been this fourth quarter demon to where he just comes through in the clutch. Hey, man. Hey, hey. The young man got. I ain't gonna lie. Even watching the game tonight as the game starts, you know, as the time starts to tick, I'm like, even five, six minutes left. I'm like, man, it just felt like everything was going to go right for the Knicks, bro. For whatever reason, I. I just. That's just how I felt after a while, because I said, damn the spurs and play so great in every game. Ocho.
Guest Analyst (Possibly Chad Johnson)
Yes, sir. Yes, sir.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
They played great in every game, bro. But the lows are the low, and they come at unopportune times in the fourth quarter to where there's nothing you can do about it, bro.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
Joe Ocho.
Guest Analyst (Possibly Chad Johnson)
Yeah.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
They can't stop the bleeding. You know how you get a cut?
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Yeah.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
And most times say, okay, you do this. You do this tourniquet, or you do this, they can't stop the bleeding.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
They can't.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
And they. And they bleed out every time they start making. Now, all of a sudden, they don't run any plays. Everybody want to be hero. They start jacking up shots. Everybody start turning over the ball, and they just. And then all of a sudden, you see Brunson. Okay, you got two back. You see Brunson coming, you got to
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
load the paint, man.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
And they don't load the paint. And guess what he get. He squeezes through. He gets a layup. He got. He got like, three of those, Joe. I'm like, you gotta load the paint. You gotta load the paint. Hey, man, load the paint. He's got to see multiple bodies there, so to deter him from trying to get there. Because if he only sees one and he sees the rim behind that one, he's going to the basket.
Guest Analyst (Possibly Chad Johnson)
He going at it, but, hey, he's
Joe (Host/Analyst)
going to the basket.
Guest Analyst (Possibly Chad Johnson)
Hey, Uncle. Yeah, you got to think he got two ways to go every time, too, Joe.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
What's that?
Guest Analyst (Possibly Chad Johnson)
Brunch and knowing if the pain ain't loaded, if nobody's crashing down, if they gonna stay out, I just. That's. That's me all day. If they load the pain, hell, I'm kick out, and I'm gonna trust whoever it is to get that ball, they're gonna make that shot.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
Yeah, but that situation, though, Ocho, I'm taking my chance with somebody else because I know he's got it going now. Yeah, I see he's got it going.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Yeah.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
I'm taking. I'm taking my chance with somebody because once that, once. Once those guys get it going, it ain't no turning them off.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
No.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
You just hope I could. Hopefully I can force somebody else to shoot enough to help break his rhythm. Yeah. Because if you look at it, Joe, on that 80 run, it was him.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Yeah. Yeah, it was him.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
The three free throws or getting to the basket, the layup, the AM one, it was him.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Yeah.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
I just might need to get somebody else to shoot the ball a couple of times down to break him out of a rhythm, man.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Hey, I don't know. I. I feel like Brunson understood the moment. And guys like him who, who never gonna be the fastest, most explosive, the quickest guys on the court.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
Yes, sir.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Bruh, when you talk about first step, his first step is to get in front of you to cut you off, to cut your momentum off from trying. Yeah. That's how he got women when he laid him up. Yeah. It's get in front of you, cut you off, make you have to kind of back up. And now it's the stop and go. I mean, it's the craftiness in this game. It's the being lefty. He just has so much in his bag, bro. That down the stretch, Uncle Ocho, I never felt that the spurs was going to be able to get a stop. It just seemed like every time he shot the damn ball, he shot that one fade away that he missed on the side of the backboard. But outside of that, in that fourth quarter, I'm like, he too dangerous, bro. He's showing you.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
Yeah.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Time and time again, he hit Wimby
Joe (Host/Analyst)
with a move and got to the basket.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Oh, that's what I'm talking about.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
And, and, and, and, and, and the thing is, is that when Wimy gets tired, Joe, he ain't know. He. He. He really can't do anything.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
It's a rap. It's a rap. The pro.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
The problem is, though, for me, just watching it, being an ex, former athlete, he go, he doesn't understand how to pace himself yet. Yeah, because you see, he hit a shot, he running down the court. You know, he's so excited. He doesn't understand, bro. We still got 47 minutes to go. Yeah, he's gonna have to do a better job because you can't win the game in the first 10 minutes of the game. And he be spent he's gone anaerobic every game.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Yeah. Yeah.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
And at that point, it's just like. I just hope I can finish.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Yeah.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
Because he has nothing left.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Yeah.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
Watch the chat. Y' all watched it.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Yeah. Yeah.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
He doesn't even try to get to the rim. He doesn't even try to post up
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
that first half over where he'd be too spent. He'd be too spent to try and fight and. And gain position down there in that post, in that mid post and be on balance. Like I'll say, when they throw that ball and he go to tipping it. Yeah. Next thing you know, they go another way.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
So now, because he's already out of position, there ain't nobody to protect the paint.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Right.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
And. And the thing was, look, they. They get whatever they want. I mean, they got a situation where Mikhail Bridges missed the three. Damn.
Guest Analyst (Possibly Chad Johnson)
Hey, I have. Hey, Uncle Joe.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
What's up? Yes.
Guest Analyst (Possibly Chad Johnson)
With a situation like this with the Knicks after not winning the championship in 53 years, Brunson having a series. Hell, Brunson having a season. Forget a playoff series.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
Yeah.
Guest Analyst (Possibly Chad Johnson)
The season he's had, obviously, the disrespected, you know, with the. With the mass. You know, Offered him. Can he now get a max contract or. That's not the way. The way it works.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Yeah, he just. He just signed the deal, didn't he?
Joe (Host/Analyst)
Yeah, he gave up.
Guest Analyst (Possibly Chad Johnson)
He.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
He didn't want the max. He wanted pieces. He knew that if I get a max contract, they're not gonna be able to put.
Guest Analyst (Possibly Chad Johnson)
They can't put bridges around me. Okay.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
They can't put OG around me. They can't put pieces around me.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Yeah.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
So, see, a lot of guys, like, the most. Everybody says they want to win. I want to win. Making max dollars, it's just hard to do it.
Guest Analyst (Possibly Chad Johnson)
Okay.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
Unless you got. Unless you get situations like what you got with Shay, a guy that was on a rookie con, on a second contract, which wasn't a max. It's. It gets harder and harder because at some point in time, they're going to have to break. They're going to have to break okc up. You can't have three guys making $250 million a year. Damn.
Guest Analyst (Possibly Chad Johnson)
I mean, but, hey, but his value. His value is going up like. Like exponentially based on what he's making right now.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
I'm. I'm sure they. They. I'm sure they got ways to take care of it.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
But hold on. Hold up here in New York, that market, he gonna make crazy money off
Guest Analyst (Possibly Chad Johnson)
the court, especially now. Joe.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Yeah. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. A champion. Like, come on, man. Come on, man.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
Just like Steph being in Silicon Valley and winning.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Yeah.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
So he gets an opportunity that these ventures come up, these venture capitalists, they go talk to him. Hey, Steph, would you like to be a part of this?
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Yeah. Yeah.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
Dre. Now, New York, they got things down there. Hey, he the champion. Ajay lebron said, hey, man, we'd love to have you be a part of this.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Yes.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
So, yeah, I. I think that. I think that's it. That's it. But you got to just tip your hat to the Knicks being down. And like I said, Joe, the problem that you run into, if somebody ever tracks you down, they believe they can continuously do it.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Yeah, yeah.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
What was 16 points if we already done came back from 29? Just the game before, Joe. 13 fuel points. We gotta come from behind. Yeah, but, man, we absorb that, man. 16, wasn't it 14 the first game? Are we 13? 14, 14, 15. There's nothing to them, bro. And, and, and, and, and, and. I. I don't know what's. What Starts to seep. Doubt starts to see. I know it's. And they're gonna say no. Blah, blah, blah. Doubt starts to seep in your mind when you get a lead, and all of a sudden, they whittling it down, man. In game one, in game two, in game three, in game four, in game five, it does.

but think about this. If you disperse, bro, I'm just thinking like, damn, every game, even tonight when they were up 16, I'm thinking to myself, man, how do you get to this point every game? Okay, Ocho, to where you up double figures on this team. I'm talking about all you got to do is just play solid. And I'm talking about play after play, bro. It's like they'll do some dumb fouls, whether it's Harper Fallon Brunson at the half court line, just too, just too aggressive. Give him two. Yes, give him two free throws. Hey, as a score, that's all I want. I want to see it go through the basket a couple times. I got a couple free throws. Next thing you know. Now, yo, you can't cool me off feeling good. I'm just saying.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
But I made a three point line, Joe.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
I know, man. It's just time and time. It's just like it Just started to compound and I'm like, come on, bro, y' all gotta get it together.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
They gotta, they got a seven point lead to get, try to get the rebound. Mitchell Robinson tips it in. Now it's a five point lead. Could have been a seven point lead. And we go down there, maybe we get something. You get the situation. We got the rebound, we got three guys. All the Knicks have done gone back down the court. What happened? Ball goes out of bounds. Now they get the ball back, hit a three Right. Now it's a two point game.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Right, right.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
It's. It's things like that.
Guest Analyst (Possibly Chad Johnson)
Yes.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
That becomes self inflicted that you like. Oh, my goodness. There we go.
Guest Analyst (Possibly Chad Johnson)
Yeah.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
They just can't stop the bleeding once. What a paper cut turns into. You have to go to the trauma center when all you should be able to do is just put a band aid on it and be able to move on. Now I got to go to the trauma because I got to get 30 stitches.
Guest Analyst (Possibly Chad Johnson)
Hey, but hey, even with that going to the trauma center, it should only happen one time. The fact that it's happened multiple times.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Ocho, I'm with you. I'm with you, bro.
Guest Analyst (Possibly Chad Johnson)
It happened multiple times. Hey, Joe, if you make one mistake, you know, chances are when you in that situation again, you're not gonna make that same mistake twice.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Yeah. And it's like once the lead is blown and the Knicks get it back down to six or five, it's a game now.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
Hell.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
And you know, time and time again, what has happened? The Knicks have prevailed. They've came through in the clutch. I'm like, bro.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
But you know what, Joe? I'm watching it. If, if you watch the spurs, as long as you allow them to get up and down, Joe, what happens in the first half? How to get that lead, Joe.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Yeah.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
They getting up and down. Spraying threes.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Yeah.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
The moment you get it to a single digit game.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Yeah.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
And now you got to execute. What do they do?
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Turnover.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
Turnover after turnover. As long as you let them get up and down and they can get and kick and vessel w and champagne. Boom. And you got a Harper or you got Wimy like, boom. The moment that you get them in
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
a half court set and the game slows down and the game slows down,
Joe (Host/Analyst)
that's when you get the Knicks and a half court set. They got a guy of all the guys.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Yeah, you're right. It's different, bro.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
Hey, one more thing. Mike Brown. Take it. Congratulations.
Guest Analyst (Possibly Chad Johnson)
Yes, sir.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Oh, man.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
Hey, you've been coach of the year couple of times. I think he's coach of the year in Sacramento. He's the coach of the year. Won 66 games with LeBron, led them to the finals. He's a champion.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Job well done. First year.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
Job well done. I mean, I was surprised that they fired Fibodo.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Yeah.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
Considering. And I think the thing is, is that they fired Thibodeau because they feel right.
Guest Analyst (Possibly Chad Johnson)
He run him into the ground.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
Well, I. This. I felt that once they beat Boston, the Knicks thought it was smooth sailing.
Guest Analyst (Possibly Chad Johnson)
Right.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
Because Boston was the preeminent favorite. We took down the favorite, so we should be the favorite. Right. And lo and behold, what happened. Indiana got him.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Yep. Yep.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
It didn't seem like. And this is what I talk about sometimes. It didn't seem like the right move at the time, but it was absolutely the right move.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Yeah.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
And that's what people say, well, if you fire him, who you gonna hire?
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Yeah. All right.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
There are plenty coaches out there.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Yeah. Yeah.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
Trade him. Who you gonna bring him in? Okay. Look where we're finishing with him.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Yeah.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
We can finish there without him.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Yeah.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
Mike Brown Duck deserves a ton of credit. Yes. He deserves a ton of credit. He deserves even more credit now, I don't know. For keeping Rick Brunson on the st. Maybe that was. Hey, you can get this job, but his dad stays.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Yeah.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
I don't know. But it was a great move.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Yeah.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
And you hear Jalen talk about how it. Like, he's a coach when we're there. He's my dad, but we're talking as a coach, player, obviously. And he says, you know, it's great to have him around because you got to realize, when I was a kid, my dad played in the NBA, and he's all around, and he says, I have my dad around more now than I. At any point in time that I can remember.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Yeah.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
That means something to it.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Yeah.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
But he also understands. I don't think he has kids of his own. The. The. The grind and the sacrifice that you got to make.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Yeah.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
And when you have your kids, you'll understand it.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Yep.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
Because a lot of times, kids don't understand what parents have to go through to sacrifice. But when you have your own kids, you have a greater appreciation.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Yeah.
Guest Analyst (Possibly Chad Johnson)
They'll never understand until they.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Hey.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
Until they get their own.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Hey. Never, man. Do you hear me? Hey.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
Yeah.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Yeah, yeah. Hey. Hey. Shout out to my guy. Worldwide west, too, for the New York Knicks, bro.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
Yeah, he put it together.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Yeah.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
Player.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Partner of mine, man. Hey, he done a hell of a job with them, Knicks boy.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
Oh, he's done an unbelievable job. He came in and you know what they gave up? I mean, you, you know, you think about like, hold on. They gave up how many first round picks with Mikhail Bridges?
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Guest Analyst (Possibly Chad Johnson)
Hey, they paid off.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Oh, Ocho. Huh? If I'm diving Chinzo, I'm pissed. These mofos. And when they got a ring after they traded me, y', all, I ain't about nothing.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
Yeah, it's a part of it, but the thing is, is that. And then Cat. Cat didn't have a great game tonight, but for the most part of the series, he did it. The first two games, he did an unbelievable job making it very, very difficult on Wimby, and he kept Wim in a situation where Wimby had to play defense.
Guest Analyst (Possibly Chad Johnson)
Yeah.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Yep, yep. He won them first two games for him.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
Yep.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
And, and, and he made the spurs adjust by taking Wimy off a cat and putting like, Castle somebody, letting them wrestle with him, and, and, and, and having Wimby be that weak side help. Which I ultimately thought it, you know, it worked at times.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
It did.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Yeah. But I thought Cat done his job in this series, winning them first two games for him. I mean, he was huge. Huge.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
I think the, the question is moving forward, Joe, and I don't know what type of voice Harrison Barnes had in the, in, in the locker room. I did see a thing where he said that him, Wimby and Carter Bryant, they do watch a lot of movies, if I'm not mistaken, on the road. They do them three mainly together.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Yeah.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
But they're gonna have to get somebody in there that has a voice that can calm them down.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Yeah.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
Because it's tough. It's tough in the situation where you young and nobody has ever been in these situations before.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Yeah, yeah.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
Nobody's ever been here before.
Guest Analyst (Possibly Chad Johnson)
You know, and even if. Yeah. I think even if you have someone, Joe, in that locker room who's been in those situations before, the words that they can tell you and express to you on what it's like is nothing like having to experience it. Just because they tell you what it's like doesn't mean you're able to execute what you should do when you're in moments like that.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Right.
Guest Analyst (Possibly Chad Johnson)
Experiences. Well, I guarantee you when the Spur. Oh, the spurs are going to be back in this moment again, they're going to be back in the finals again, you know, probably multiple times, you know, throughout the years. And I guarantee their approach and how they feel that adrenaline rush, that nervousness, those butterflies will be a little bit different the way it conducts himself, you know, on the court, not exerting so much energy, early picking and choosing what spots didn't exert that energy, you know, so he's able to have some fuel left in the tank on the back end of the games.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Hey, and uncle, you talking about the spurs having somebody to calm him down here? That's what our point guard for. We, we pay. We pay. We pay him. We pay him. We pay him a pretty penny. And we need him to be better in those situations because he's the extension of the coach. Hell, the coach on the sideline. He can give us a game plan. That's all he could do. When we get out there in between them lines, it's just us five out there. Hey, look, we looking at the PG like, all right, what we got? Boom. Okay, they didn't score. They didn't score six points in a row. We need the point guard to be able to get everybody under control. Okay?
Joe (Host/Analyst)
Boom.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Boom. I need to make sure I get Ocho a touch. He ain't touched it in a couple times, you know what I mean? We need to make sure we give Wimby a good look, you know, even just throwing it up that high when he right there by the block. You know what I mean? Like, even at times, I understand, you know, late in games, he don't necessarily grab it like he do in the first half, but, bro, you got to find a way to make the game easier in those moments. Yeah,
Joe (Host/Analyst)
looking, I, I a point guard. And I think the thing is, Joe, we've. We've gone so far away from the typical point guards that most of these guards, the guys are twos masquerading right as one. These guys are looking to score, Joe. They ain't looking to initiate no damn offense.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Yeah, but, but look at Fox, though. I mean, Fox, yeah, he can score and, you know, he uses quickness to his advantage. But damn, man, he gotta have some sense out there, huh? You know, I, I mean, I understand, Castle master.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
Oh, you. You want to have some sense? So that. So you want to have some sense. So that's why he tried to go with, with. With OG right there and try to lay the ball up.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Yeah, I expect that.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
Got to have some sense.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
I expect better from him. I expect better from him. I really do. I expect better from him.
Guest Analyst (Possibly Chad Johnson)
That was hero ball right there, Joe.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Yeah, I expect better, bro.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
Especially, I expect. I expect. I expected exactly what. Based on what. Based on what I've seen of him in his career. This is exactly what I expect he's the guy that got a three point lead and he files the three point guy and he fought and the guy makes it and he loses and the guy makes the free throw. A four point play and I lost the game. I got a three point lead. That's the guy that you expected really, Joe?
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Yeah, I'm hoping, I'm hoping he learned from them experiences. Damn. Listen, you playing on a young team, bro. You ain't even got to be great every night, but damn, we just need you to be able to control tempo, pace and dictate, you know how we maneuver things offensively. Meaning be the quarterback. Damn, every play. Ain't gonna be no home run play. But we need you to be able to have this thing under wraps. Listen, when we up eight points with three minutes left in the game. Hell, man, I don't care if you run off 20 seconds of the damn shot clock every time and we get a last minute shot, man. Hell, we probably won two games just by doing that.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
Joe, when they had them leads, how many times you see them, you see Versaille or you see them guys taking quick threes when they were up? You still saw it, right?
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
I don't see where you. Okay, yeah.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
So in other words, do you think, do you think your point guard said, look guys, we get this lead, man. Hey, let's not take these threes. We don't need to take quick threes now let's try to run. But here's the thing. They got the lead by playing free. They ain't run no half court set.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Joe, that's my, that's my thing, bro. Early in the game when there isn't no pressure and you can just go out there and willy nilly and get you some couple threes, couple, you know, midis and you know. But when it comes to late game and blowing these leads that they've blown in this whole entire series, bro. Come on, man, I didn't see this from the Spurs. I'm be honest.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
No, we ain't trying to hear that. Oh, fox injured. I ain't trying to hear that.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Right.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
He should have just sat down. He can't play the injured. Since when somebody he got a high ankle. Explain. Well, sit down. Hey, no, you don't see the thing is, had they won, he wouldn't use the injury as no excuse, right? We don't do. But like I said, Barney Porter used to tell my brother, now he said, I'm not going to give you an excuse you because you might use it.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
Nah, we're not going to do that. We're not going to do that. So what they got to solve the injury, did it make him try to lay the ball up with 11 seconds on the clock and not pull it out? The injury did that, right?
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Yeah.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
Okay, so that turnover that he threw the ball back court to get, he, he crossed court, he the point guard and he turned the ball over. The injury made him do that?
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Yeah.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
Them turnovers that he had. Let me guess, the injuries made him do that. God almighty. No. Now, damn injury.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Damn.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
You didn't mention up by the injury when he hit that clutch bucket in game three. You ain't mention nothing about no injury. I ain't seen nobody mention the injury.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Hello.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
Now all of a sudden they lose. He played bad, he made a dumb play. Now it's the injuries.
Guest Analyst (Possibly Chad Johnson)
Now we ain't gonna do that.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Amen. If, if you the spurs, obviously, you know, this hurts because of the promise, because of the promise that you showed in all these games, bro. You know what I mean?
Joe (Host/Analyst)
So, yeah, I guess that's the bright side. I guess that's the side that you can look on. You can look at the positive and say, look, we're the youngest team in the NBA. We're the youngest team to make the final since the 77 Portland Trail Blazers. So that's almost 50 years. Yeah, but you also look at like, bruh, we had double digit leads in every single game. It wasn't like we got blown out. It wasn't like we weren't in any of the games. We had double digit leads. One game we had a 29 point lead and we lost it. We had a 16 point lead and we lost it. We had a 15 point lead. We had leads in every game.

Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Hello.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
It's just like when you ride a ride. You don't get to sit on the ride at the amusement park.
Guest Analyst (Possibly Chad Johnson)
Yeah.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
You gotta get your ass off and get back in line.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Yeah.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
That line might be an hour long. Yo. Yay. The people don't say, yeah, I got another ticket. They said, I don't care. I know you do. Get your ass back in that line. You see that line, get back in it, and you get back home.
Guest Analyst (Possibly Chad Johnson)
Damn, man. That's crazy, man. I get. Listen, I'm in my hotel, Joe. I can hear everything.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
It's lit. Oh, I know. New York lit.
Guest Analyst (Possibly Chad Johnson)
I can hear everything. And then. Then, hey, Joe, they got the Puerto Rican Day parade tomorrow. Can you imagine? That's gonna be like, hey, hey, hey, the boy. Them boys fly back tonight, huh? Or they wait till tomorrow.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
Oh, yeah. They might stay. Cause it's all. Hello. What time is it? It's only an hour. Difference in time. Come back in the morning.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
What you mean the Knicks?
Guest Analyst (Possibly Chad Johnson)
You think they're gonna stay there, Joe?
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Hell, no. Them boy finna get on that jet, they finna get their ass back to New York.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
If they were somewhere, let's just say, for the sake of argument, they're in Miami or they're in la.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Yeah.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
Oh, they stay.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
Or they were, if they were in Vegas.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Yeah.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
Hell, as a matter of fact, they might fly to Vegas. Yeah.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
There you go.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
They might fly to Vegas.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Yeah. Oh, hey, the boy for the kick it. Oh, the boy for the kick it.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
This is. This was.
Guest Analyst (Possibly Chad Johnson)
That's dope. I'm happy, boy. I'm happy for Mike Brown, bro.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
Now, hey, Jalen Brunson playing. This ain't bad when y' all start talking about champions, y'.
Tab Ramos (Inside American Soccer)
All.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
Hey, you know, I understand what Derek Jeter is, and I know understand some
Guest Analyst (Possibly Chad Johnson)
of the greats, but they're in the same. They, they, they, they. They in the same echelon.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah.
Guest Analyst (Possibly Chad Johnson)
Greats. Now.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Oh, yeah. He ain't got to pay for another meal, no question.
Guest Analyst (Possibly Chad Johnson)
He can go anywhere. He ain't got to pay for nothing no more.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
No question. No question anywhere in New York after all of them. All of Mojo.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
Hey, brother gonna say, hey, man. Hey, Go call up Rails. And hey, man, I want to bring the family to Rails. Absolutely. We love to have you, Mr. Brunson.
Guest Analyst (Possibly Chad Johnson)
What's that? What's that?
Joe (Host/Analyst)
Huh? Oh, that Italian restaurant they ain't got. But they. They. I mean, they won't probably hold about 40. 50. About 40 people, right? And all the tables are owned by someone, so you'd have. They have to, like, clear you to come in there and sit at their table.
Guest Analyst (Possibly Chad Johnson)
Okay. Okay. I was like that, huh?
Joe (Host/Analyst)
Yeah.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Okay.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
Absolutely like that, man.
Guest Analyst (Possibly Chad Johnson)
That's crazy.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
So Brussels. Brussels gonna get at the big table, man.
Guest Analyst (Possibly Chad Johnson)
That's dope.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
He gonna be at the big table.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Yeah, man. I'm happy for the Knicks, bro. That's what's up. That's what's me.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
I'm happy for Bronson and his dad. I already. I like. And plus, I like Cat.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
I love Cat.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
I love Cat's story. He's taking a lot of criticism, some of it deserved. You know, I. I think for me, Ocho Joe, is that they fake everybody. Well, he ain't got the Kobe mentality and he ain't got Jordan mentality. He who does, Right? So if every. If everybody was Jordan, if everybody was Kobe, what are we talking here?
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Right, Right, right.
Guest Analyst (Possibly Chad Johnson)
That wouldn't be realistic.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
Thank you. There has to be levels to everything.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Yeah.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
And it's. It's okay. It's okay. People have won championships that maybe weren't as great or didn't have the. The. The Mamba mentality or Jordan. This. They've been people that won championships without that.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Yeah.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
People make it seem like there's only one way to win a championship.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Right.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
I think your team needs to be fairly close. I need. I think there needs to be a bond or you guys get, you know, for the most part, get along.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Yeah.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
I ain't saying you got to be boys. I ain't saying. But hey, I do think that the closer you are to off the court, the closer you'll be on the court.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Yep. Yep.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
That's just me.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Yeah. But hey, I agree. I agree that camaraderie because carries over on the court.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
It absolutely does.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Yeah. I agree.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
O. Joe. Joe. In Game 1, the spurs led by 14. In Game 2, they led by 12. In Game 3, a game in which they won, they led by 12. In game 4, they led by 29. In Game 5, they led by 16. I don't know if we've had a situation in finals history.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Never.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
We've seen a team lead every single game and only end up winning one.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Then a double. A double digit lead. You know what I mean? A double digit league, Uncle Ocho. Like, I. I mean, bruh, if you. The Spurs. I mean, every game, you, You. You had a prime opportunity, and it's like, wow, the Knicks. The Knicks just. They were great. I mean, especially late game, down the stretch, when you need to be, bro.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
Ms. Johnson yesterday he said dear. And Fox will have the basketball in his hands at the end of the game tomorrow. Here's Darren Fox's fourth quarter numbers, Y'. All, 0 points, 0 for 0 from 4 for field goal range, 0 assists and 0 turno and 0 rebounds.
Guest Analyst (Possibly Chad Johnson)
Hey, I told you what it would look like the other night. I told you. I. I told you. I knew it. Especially with his answer when they asked him. Oh, it doesn't bother me. I don't care nothing about the outside. Yes, you do, Joe. I mean, we. We asked you, Joe. Yes. You hear it no matter what.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Yeah.
Guest Analyst (Possibly Chad Johnson)
I say if. If you don't hear for the. From the outside notes, you hear from the people that's closest to you.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Yeah. Yeah.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
At halftime, says, I hate to say this, Mitch got to go with Castle and Harper. He's got to get Fox out of the game. If you're Coach Johnson, you can't be worried about people's feelings out there. And that's what it was, Joe. Yeah, because he's a veteran player. He left him in the ball game like, look, I still got confidence in him. Nah, bro, I ain't got no confidence when you sit your ass over here. Gotta be true if I'm trying to win a game.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Yeah, yeah.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
Your feelings don't. Feelings. And then unfortunately, guys, they don't make band aids for feelings. Oh, no, because I can't put a band aid on it and keep it moving.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Yeah.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
But with that being said, I can't worry about your feelings. I've got to put the best guys give me. I got to put the best five guys in the game. And at that point in time, Castle and Harper should have been in the ball game.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Yeah.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
Along with Champagne, Versaille, and Wimby. Wimby.
Guest Analyst (Possibly Chad Johnson)
Hey, Joe, remember what I asked you last series was that when the Cav Series, the first thing, when a certain individual wasn't playing well, I said, well, why don't they just take him out? And yeah. Right away said, no, you can't because of his feelings. And now you.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
You.
Guest Analyst (Possibly Chad Johnson)
What's the difference with. With benches?
Joe (Host/Analyst)
Because I think Donovan Mitchell is a different player than Dear and Fox.
Guest Analyst (Possibly Chad Johnson)
No, it wasn't.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
He was talking about James Harden.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
James Harden.
Guest Analyst (Possibly Chad Johnson)
He wasn't playing well.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Yeah, he was. He wasn't playing well.
Guest Analyst (Possibly Chad Johnson)
Oh, and the first thing I said, well, how come, you know, they don't. They don't. They don't sit him down and let. And let Schroeder come in.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
But he had played well for the most part in this series, Darren Fox hadn't played well. Oo, so it had been a, it had been an easier shift, right, to sit him down as opposed to Harden. It's just Baron Fox didn't play well this series. He didn't.
Guest Analyst (Possibly Chad Johnson)
Right.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
But did. Hey, but that damn Dylan Harper made it hard not to play. Hey, it made it hard to take him off the floor. I ain't gonna lie, boy. Yeah, it would have been tough. I mean, even tonight, bro, with him got. When he got into his little rhythm where he couldn't miss, I'm like, man, you gotta understand, man, this dude. Shots, come on, man.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
Joe, he hit some shots tonight and then he missed the layup. Joe, you saw Joe, he hit a step back, he hit a, a three. Hey, he was getting to the, he was finishing.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
He was special, man.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
Shot miss. Johnson reflects on tonight's game on the surface level, I don't think anybody other than the people in that room expected us to be here. So there's a lot of good in that and there's a lot of pain. And what's happened at both things can be true yet. Hold on. Oh, Joe, you got wimby. People say wimby's going to be the face of the league. You can't be the face of a league with just an average guy.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Right.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
You got Dylan Harper, who's the second pick in the draft. Wendy was the number one overall pick in the draft. Castle was a top five pick. What are you talking about? Vesel was a top pick. I mean, he was a first round pick. Come on, Coach Johnson, I get it. Look, that's coach speak. I got to give this coach big Joe, but he does bless some culpability in this.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Yeah.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
If you notice tonight, Joe, he was, he was, he called those, he used those timeouts.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
He damn sure did. He damn sure did. He damn sure did. When they cut it to six, he, he uses, he called the timeout. He was using them tonight. I'm like, okay, all right.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
Hey, a day late on a dollar show damn time.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
I didn't do nothing. Hell yeah.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
He should have been used and say, you know what, how many time as I got for game five? Well, let me go and get three of them right now. I'm gonna use them in game. I'm gonna, I'm gonna use these again. Hey, Joe. And so just go ahead and shout me, hey, you know, back in the day, Joe, you don't use kabara against your money.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Right? Right, Mr. Mr.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
Such. I'm gonna work all day Next week. So can I get an advance a little bit?
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Yeah, yeah.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
Oh, you show.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
You coming, right?
Joe (Host/Analyst)
Yeah, it was. Boy, I know. Pop. Pop losing his mind.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
I don't know, though, you know? I mean, I. I think Pop gonna give him some grace because they're a young team, you know, Knowing that, obviously. I mean, y' all gotta understand, bro, just a year ago here, they won the lottery. Like, they. They wasn't even in the postseason.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
Cause Wimby got hurt.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
But I'm just saying, they wasn't. They wasn't in the postseason, though, so. So to be here in the finals, I. I'm. I. I know he. I know he's probably disappointed, you know, at some of the games. Hell, if not all of them, but he just gotta hope this team continues to grow together, bro.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
Hell, yeah. It's just. It's disappointing, you know, you say, you know, and. And I've. I've been fortunate enough to get to the super bowl three times and never lost. And everybody. And if you don't. Joe. Ocho. We've heard people say, I'd rather not go than get there and lose.
Guest Analyst (Possibly Chad Johnson)
And lose. Yeah. Yeah. That. That. That would hurt. That would hurt. That's crazy, man. Joey. I ain't never been there, Joe. Never.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Sorry. It's all right.
Guest Analyst (Possibly Chad Johnson)
I went to New England, but golly, yeah, I am.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
I ain't never played in the Finals either, Ocho.
Guest Analyst (Possibly Chad Johnson)
Joe, them boy winning every week. Joe, every week. I wasn't doing nothing, yo. I ain't had nothing to do with it. Because, I mean, Joe, you know, they already intact, you know. Yeah, man. Every week they would win. I'm like. God, I'm like. Okay, okay.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
And they give you a different feeling too, don't it? Like. Like, it's different. It's different when you play on the team and you winning and you ain't a part of. It's kind of like. You know what I mean? Like, not that you checked out, but you, like, damn. Like, I get it. I get it, bro. Yeah, I get it. That was a standard for New England, huh?
Guest Analyst (Possibly Chad Johnson)
Man, it was a standard, boy. And I never understood why they won. From the outside looking, and you understood how good the team was, but you don't understand the. The. The nuts and bolts on why they winning. So being. Seeing how things are done from top to bottom. Okay, now I get it. Watching how they practice.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Yeah.
Guest Analyst (Possibly Chad Johnson)
Tail accountable. Everybody held to the same standard. Okay, now I get it.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Yeah.
Guest Analyst (Possibly Chad Johnson)
Hey, it was. That was. That was a dope experience. It was a dope experience. And it was one where I didn't really contribute to anything. I get a better understanding of why they've always been so great for so long.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Yeah, yeah. Hey, hey, it starts at the top, bro. When, like, your top guys, when you. When all y' all hold each other accountable like that. And cats see that, it takes a squad to a whole nother level, bro. Yeah, I've been on teams like that. I know what it looked like. I know what it looked like. Hey, boy, they finna be partying hard in New York.
Guest Analyst (Possibly Chad Johnson)
You see, I just. I just opened my drink, Joe. I'm looking, I'm looking. I can see out my window downstairs. Yeah, Joe, they're going. They going crazy in the middle of the street.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
It's gonna be all night, Ocho. I'm talking about to the break of dawn. Yeah, them folks gonna go hard, boy crazy.
Guest Analyst (Possibly Chad Johnson)
That's dope, though, man. That's. That's dope. That's dope.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Not only is it dope, but it's. It's good for the game of basketball, obviously. New York being the Mecca of basketball, Ocho, you know, it says a lot, bro, for them to. It took them 53 years to get back to the mountaintop like this. Like, damn, bro, That's a hell of a drought. You feel what I'm saying?
Guest Analyst (Possibly Chad Johnson)
That's the longest drought. That's the longest drought, huh? Matter of fact, ain't might be at 53.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Yeah, it might be as long as the Hawks. Hey, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa.
Guest Analyst (Possibly Chad Johnson)
God damn, Joe.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
You know, hey, you know, unbe hating, you know, he behave, man.
Guest Analyst (Possibly Chad Johnson)
Hey, Joey came out of left field with that one.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Yeah.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
Hey, Joe. Stir further piss me off. I gotta start drinking with Joe. Hell.
Guest Analyst (Possibly Chad Johnson)
Hey, well, maybe.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
You know what? I heard you guys talking and people get mad at me. That's why I couldn't play with everybody. Standard. The standard. I don't do all this stuff. I do. I don't eat like I do. I don't deny myself. I don't deny my family. To come out here and have y' all bull jive, right? Sleep in the meetings, run to your car, get on the phone, talk and carry on. I don't care about none of that. I don't care about none of your feelings. I did not come to Denver to be friends, right? If I made friends, fine.
Guest Analyst (Possibly Chad Johnson)
If I didn't, fine, Fine.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
Right? This is what. And it gets me so upset that people that never played the game or never been involved in anything, that's a team, right? They don't get It.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
No.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
And that's okay. But I believe there's a right way and a wrong way to do everything. I'm not saying that I won every game that I played, but when you put so much into it and when it doesn't go well, it hurts also when you put so much into it and then you see like, bro, the mistakes that we're making. The one thing I'll always. And I always say about, about this, that Mike made me a. But I was a good player.
Guest Analyst (Possibly Chad Johnson)
Yeah.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
Mike made me a great player because like I said, when he told me he would never accept anything in a win, he wouldn't have. Would have lost, it made me start to realize dropping a pass in practice, even it's still not okay.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Yeah.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
Because if you drop a pass in practice and think it's okay, you drop one in the game and think it's okay. And you don't know when that, hey, one play.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Nah.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
But one play lead to another play, lead to another play, and before you know it, it's a snowball effect.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Yeah.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
Today's game, I wouldn't be, I wouldn't be able to play. I've talked to a lot of. I've talked to a lot of guys that, that, that played that coach now and they say, yeah, yeah, sharp. You couldn't play. You can play.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
It's too much.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
Guys, don't take it nearly a second. These guys, these guys want to make money. These guys want clicks. Don't give them about no game. Yeah, we got some, you know, some of the guys do care.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Yeah.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
But it's about all that other stuff.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Yeah.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
And the way you prepared, the way I saw you work.
Guest Analyst (Possibly Chad Johnson)
But then, you know, got to think when you played and, and Joe. Well, kind of Joe, we. I think we caught social media on the back end.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Yeah.
Guest Analyst (Possibly Chad Johnson)
When it was, when it was first starting. So it's a different era. It's a different area. We got social media. Everybody's trying to create a brand before.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
Yes.
Guest Analyst (Possibly Chad Johnson)
What they focus on their craft. And you know, I tell, hey, I'm not really want to be giving, you know, giving advice. You know, it's the right message but the wrong message. They're coming from someone like me. You know, everybody trying to create a brand instead of taking care of yourself on the football field and your brand will take care of itself. They doing everything backwards first and then go, then go out there and try to play and you really not like that.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
And you know what happens is because cats fall in love, what the game brings them versus falling in love with the game, bro. You forget. You forget how you got to. Where you at, Uncle Ocho, you know, through that grind, them tough workouts, you know what I mean? Having something that pushes you, that motivates you to be better. But then once you get those things, you can never exhale, bro. You got to continue to improve. Improve each and every year. And a lot of cats don't do it because once they make it to the league and they start getting a chance to get everything, all the things that they desire or they won't, then they forget. They forget. They forget how they got there, bro.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
Yeah, they don't forget. You know what happens, Joe? Because this happened to Ocho and I when we try to hold guys accountable. Shut up. Y' all just mad. Y' all hating when Ocho. When we were. When we. Ocho and I talk and we've had. This is not the only. And I. And I'm talking about just AJ Brown or we see guys acting up and we try to tell them is this is the same thing when AB Was doing what he was doing and when he doing it in Pittsburgh and when he got to Oakland. Do you understand how many people say, oh, shut up. You don't know what you talking about. Right When I really did know what I was talking about because I had somebody there that was telling me everything that was going on. But anyway, that's neither here nor there. Oh, shut up. Let live a B. Let AB Fly with this man. Talking about they gave this man $30 million, first two years fully guaranteed. Ocho, all he had to do was just make the opening day roster that Tuesday. He got $30 million coming. Fans on the Internet hyping him up. Free a B. Free a B. Free a B. Buy it. All that AB Acting a fool in Tampa, they still co signing. Yeah, they tried to. They tried to show that man incentives. You know why they put incentives in the contract? You know he got a proof a deal because he showed his ass the last two stops that he was at. Three stops. My bad. Last year in Pittsburgh, the man supposedly didn't even show it another here nor there. He got to the Raiders. They got a walk through the walkthroughs in the ballroom in the hotel. Yeah, he didn't even go to that. Yeah, then he go to the Patriots do what he did there. And people still on the Internet was caping for it when they know he wrong.
Guest Analyst (Possibly Chad Johnson)
Hey, Joe. Hey, if I play with. If I play with Uncle I would have drove Unc crazy, boy.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Yeah.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
No, no, because the problem is you didn't have nobody there to hold you accountable because if somebody would have there to hold you accountable because that's Cincinnati. Cincinnati what used to win it. So how can they tell you. How can they tell you how to win when they hadn't been to the playoffs in forever?
Guest Analyst (Possibly Chad Johnson)
No. Well, I mean, the way I played wasn't gonna change regards to where I was at. Oh, yeah.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
No, no, no, no, no, no, no. You could do. You can do all of that if you gonna do all that you're gonna do. And you. I ain't got no problem with that.
Guest Analyst (Possibly Chad Johnson)
Oh, yeah, that's. That's what I meant.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
Problem with that. As long as you're where you're supposed to be doing what you're supposed to do.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Yeah.
Guest Analyst (Possibly Chad Johnson)
You know what? You're gonna get on that field now.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
Yeah, it's my. It's my thing is. Is when guys are acting crazy and the way the. The way. And the way they cape. If he wrong, he wrong. Yeah, just. That's me. If I'm wrong, tell me I'm wrong. Okay. Where did I go wrong at? What did I do that was wrong? Okay, gotcha. No problem. No problem. I ain't got no problem. If I'm wrong, I'm wrong. I'm mad enough to admit it. I'm never gonna be too big to say I'm wrong. I'm never gonna be too wealthy to say I'm wrong. I'm never gonna be too credentialed to say I'm wrong. Never gonna have too much money to say I'm wrong.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Right.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
It's okay. I'm wrong. But it bothered me. It bothered me because I knew what I put into it. To be the player that I was right. That bothered me. When people say, well, such and such is better than you. Substance is better than that. That don't bother me because I got whatever I could out of what I could do.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Right?
Joe (Host/Analyst)
But let me tell you something a man once told me. He said, son, be careful measuring your success with someone else's ruler.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Hello.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
I'm done with it, Joe. Joe, I'm done. I don't want to get up here preaching. They gonna say, man, un. Shut up. And I'm gone.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Run that.
Guest Analyst (Possibly Chad Johnson)
Hey, hey, I got. I got my pen and my paper now.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Yeah, but be careful.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
What? Measure.
Guest Analyst (Possibly Chad Johnson)
Measure.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
Measure your success with someone else's ruler.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Yeah.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
Y' all know what they do.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Go ahead.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
They try to convince you you not any good, but that's their ruler.
Guest Analyst (Possibly Chad Johnson)
Hold on.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Hold on. Yeah. Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, Uncle. I like when Reverend Sharp come out. I like. Hey, hey. I like it. I like it. I like it. Go ahead, because I'll be learning too.
Guest Analyst (Possibly Chad Johnson)
I'll be like, you better jot that down, Joey.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Yeah, I already got it.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
I already got it. But, but that's the thing. People try to tell you you weren't good. That's never accomplished anything. They tell you what you couldn't do when they never could. Those that can do. Those that can't, talk about those that could.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Hello.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
Hello? Man hello.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Please.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
Man hello.
Guest Analyst (Possibly Chad Johnson)
Well, past the plate around, Unc.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
Hello.
Guest Analyst (Possibly Chad Johnson)
Changing now.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
What you got? Hey, what you call it?
Guest Analyst (Possibly Chad Johnson)
I totally pass the plate around. Yeah, I'm. Put some money in there.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Yeah, yeah.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
It's, it's just, man, I, I. What the question is, what are you doing this for? Why are you doing it? Why are you doing it? And, and I'm glad I didn't play in the social media era. I know what I was there for. I had a, I had, I had a bigger purpose. Yeah. The, the Pro Bowls, I wanted to, I felt that if I could make a Pro bowl, if I could. I felt if I could play three or four years, I could say I played in the NFL. If I made the Pro bowl, okay, I went to the Pro Bowl. That means I was pretty good, at least for a year.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Yeah.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
But after you get in there and you play, play, you start to reshift your focus. Like, okay, Pro bowl, multiple Pro Bowls. Because anybody can do something once. Yeah, okay. All Pro, multiple. Anybody could do something. 1. Now, as a team, for me, I don't have a problem got. Oh, he's selfish. I don't have a problem with a guy being selfish. If you want to be Rookie of the year, go ahead. If you want to be Defensive Player of the Year, you want to be an mvp, you want to be whatever you choose to be.
Guest Analyst (Possibly Chad Johnson)
Right.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
As long as your goals don't exceed that of the team.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Yeah.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
If your goals supersede those of the team, we can't do it. Yeah.
Guest Analyst (Possibly Chad Johnson)
I got a question. I, I like that you said that too. When, when, when an individual has goals. Right, right, Uncle.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
Yes.
Guest Analyst (Possibly Chad Johnson)
And you want to succeed at those goals and whatever those goals may be, doesn't that those goals actually help the team? If it's you wanting to be the best at that, at said position, yes.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
But you Absolutely right, Ocho, because I know you're going to put the work in. Yeah. Achieve those goals.
Guest Analyst (Possibly Chad Johnson)
Yes, sir.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
But when you say, man, look here, I'd rather be to go to the Pro bowl, to be an All Pro, then go to the playoffs.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Right.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
See, that's what I'm gonna have a problem. That's when the issue will arise.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Yeah.
Guest Analyst (Possibly Chad Johnson)
And, Uncle Joe, you got to think about this, too. Especially when it comes. When it comes to, you know, NFL players.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Yeah.
Guest Analyst (Possibly Chad Johnson)
Most of the time, they understand that those numbers matter because when it's time. When it's time to go to that table to get paid that first. Big deal.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Hello.
Guest Analyst (Possibly Chad Johnson)
What the GM's looking at?
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Hello?
Guest Analyst (Possibly Chad Johnson)
Looking at the only. The only leverage the agents have to be able to use to go up there and fight for you is, well, this is what my client has done.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Yeah.
Guest Analyst (Possibly Chad Johnson)
The numbers got to be right.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Yeah.
Guest Analyst (Possibly Chad Johnson)
And sometimes you got to be a little selfish because I need those numbers to be able to get myself paid if I got them. Your agent ain't got a fighting chance to get you what you think you deserve.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Hello. Because if you.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
If.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
If you're All Pro or you're a Pro Bowl. You bringing that to the table now? You like. Hold on, hold on.
Guest Analyst (Possibly Chad Johnson)
Hey, yeah. Back that truck up.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
It's an extra little money I'm supposed to come with that, ain't it. Yeah, it was an extra little money I'm supposed to come with that, ain't it.
Guest Analyst (Possibly Chad Johnson)
Man, you know the truck sound when it's in reverse, huh?
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Yeah,
Guest Analyst (Possibly Chad Johnson)
I need all that.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
But into. But here's the difference. Ocho Wondell Robinson ever make a Pro Bowl? He ever go be an All Pro? Did he get paid? They gonna pay you? Now, maybe your team won't pay you right. But your team ain't the only one that got money. Hello. See, a lot of times players think their team the only one that got money.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
And it's.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
Look, when the per. Is, we feel loyalty to the team that drafted us, that gave us the chance.
Guest Analyst (Possibly Chad Johnson)
Yeah.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
Yeah. We feel on a side like, damn, Because I hated to leave Denver.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Yeah.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
But why would I take two and a half, $3 million less to stay in Denver? When I'm. I'm like, I'm begging you to keep me.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Yeah.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
I'm begging you to keep me. Basically. I'm basically saying, yeah, baby, go out there and cheat on me. I'll be right here when you get back.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Yeah.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
As a matter of fact, hey, I. I hold your legs open for it.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
No.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
Hell, no. Hell to the dog.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Hey, hey, hey, hey.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
I ain't that big a damn fool.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Hey, hey. All these other cities got banks, too.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
Yes.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Look, look. Hey, hey, hey, hey. Oo. After. After my duration and playing with the Miami Heat, me and D. Wade, we both were free agents at the same time. Now, y' all already know Pat Riley giving D. Wade hell about coming back.
Guest Analyst (Possibly Chad Johnson)
Yeah.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
To Miami. And I think D. Wade. I think all D. Wade wanted was like, like 10 or 12 million to come back.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
Right.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
I ain't even negotiate with Pat Riley. I said, utah. Utah asked me. They say, well, yeah, we.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
We got.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
We got this on the table for you, you know, two years for 24 M's. Yeah. Hell, they got banks in you. They got banks in Utah, don't you.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
Yeah, yeah.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Okay.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
Okay.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Yeah, yeah, yeah. I'm going up here to Park City, hang out with the Mormons.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
Yeah, yeah, yeah, we gonna.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
We gon. Yeah.
Guest Analyst (Possibly Chad Johnson)
No, it's kind of cold up there, ain't it, Joe?
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Man, hell yeah. But it's nice, too, Ocho.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
I'll buy overcoat once I get there.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Yeah. Hello.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
I ain't got what I buy Overcoat or we. Hey, Joe, what they calling me? The side. We call them windbreakers. I get me a windbreaker.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Hey, hey, hey, Ocho. One percent blacks in Utah.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
Yeah, 1%. Well, guess what? They about to add one more.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Hello?
Joe (Host/Analyst)
I'm coming.
Guest Analyst (Possibly Chad Johnson)
Hey, Joe. Hey, Joe. I know. I know you were still playing around. I don't mean to be in your personal business, but what it was like playing in the snow.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
What it was like.
Guest Analyst (Possibly Chad Johnson)
Yeah.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Oh, man, I'm talking about. Yeah, sometimes was. Had. You hear me?
Joe (Host/Analyst)
Yes, sir.
Guest Analyst (Possibly Chad Johnson)
Yes, sir.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
I picked up. Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey. I picked up even though I wasn't supposed to be. But me and my son, we used to go snowboarding all the time. Okay. Yeah, yeah. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. We used to snowboard all the time, Uncle Ocho. I'm. I'm cold and snowboarding for real. But, yeah, we should go snowboarding a lot. I enjoyed Park City. Park city was about 25 to 27 minutes from salt Lake. You know what I mean? Typically, guys don't stay up there, but, yeah, I enjoyed my little time in Utah, man. We had a ball.
Guest Analyst (Possibly Chad Johnson)
Whoa, whoa, whoa. I don't think Joe knew what I was talking about.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Oh, yeah, yeah.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
You know exactly what you're talking about.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Yeah, yeah. I answered it, and then I moved on real quick. Yeah.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
So you need to.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Hey, you need to start being able to catch on a lot faster when you.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
When you in that area of the. Of the country.
Guest Analyst (Possibly Chad Johnson)
Yes, sir.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
Look, if I'm in Alaska and I gotta eat, I will eat. I'll eat caribou I might have a trap of beaver. I might have. Whatever happened.
Guest Analyst (Possibly Chad Johnson)
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
I'm catching. You know, I ain't catching no Blue Grill, Bill. Bluegill. Yeah, I'm catching salmon. Yeah, I catch a late trout.
Guest Analyst (Possibly Chad Johnson)
Yeah, that's what they got out there.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Yeah.
Guest Analyst (Possibly Chad Johnson)
Okay.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Hey. Yeah, man.
Guest Analyst (Possibly Chad Johnson)
Hey, hey, Joe, you pulled a slick one on me right there, boy.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
No, I'm just saying. Oh, Joe, that was nice. Hey, hey, real talk, people sleep on Utah. Utah ain't bad, boy.
Guest Analyst (Possibly Chad Johnson)
Yeah, Yeah. I ain't never been to Utah.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Joe, are you tripping? You tr.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
Yeah, we gotta go. We gotta go to Park. I heard Park City really nice, though.
Guest Analyst (Possibly Chad Johnson)
Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait. Let's. Let's stay in line. Let's stay in order. Now we get to Park City. Can we hit Atlanta in Houston first, please? Can we hit Houston first?
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Here he go. Here he go. This is what I'm talking about.
Guest Analyst (Possibly Chad Johnson)
Listen, I thought we was hitting Houston.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Joel, I'm. You scared, man? I don't know what's wrong with y'.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
All.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Somebody done scared y' all in Houston. Who scared y'? All?
Guest Analyst (Possibly Chad Johnson)
I'm waiting on you. I'm not going to Houston unless I'm with y'.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
All.
Guest Analyst (Possibly Chad Johnson)
That's what I. I'm trying to say.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
Oh, for sure.
Guest Analyst (Possibly Chad Johnson)
Yeah. I'm not going without y'. All.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
Have a ball. I need. I need to have a bottle signing for laportier for me to go.
Guest Analyst (Possibly Chad Johnson)
Okay. Let me go. Let me know when.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
All right. Well, Houston, man. Y', all. Y'.
Guest Analyst (Possibly Chad Johnson)
All.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Y' all book un down there, man.
Guest Analyst (Possibly Chad Johnson)
Hey, what was.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
They got. Hey, they got a Army base or Navy Air Force base in Houston. What? What? What? The base of Houston. Jordan, what's the base in Houston? I know they got one in San Antonio.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Hey, and tell them I come put them through some yoga poses and all that. They want to do all we can.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
Stretch it out. What base is they got in Houston? Fort Hood in Houston, ain't it.
Premier Protein Ad Narrator
What?
Joe (Host/Analyst)
For hood at like DJ Kennedy. I'm so hood, I wear my pants below my waist. I'm straight out the hood. Oh, four hoods of Dallas.
Guest Analyst (Possibly Chad Johnson)
No. Okay, we'll do that. Dallas. Dallas is cherry on top. We need to go to the foundation.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
Check this out, guys. The lowest finals points at per game average for a reigning six man of the year. Keldon Johnson average 16 and a half points in the regular season. He averaged 4.4. Eric McKee averaged 8 points in 2001. And Big Bill Walton average 8 points in 1980. 6.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
He was non existent in this series, okay? Oh, Joe, I'm talking about. I'm not gonna lie to y'.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
All.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
I'm watching. I'm like. I mean, his minutes. None of his minutes look good. It's like. No, they were just bad, bro. I mean, I know he made a shot or two tonight, but for the most part, I mean,
Joe (Host/Analyst)
damn.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
It's unfortunate, bro.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
It's just. It's just like. You know what it looks like to me, Joe? That, like, when he gets in the game, I'm trying to prove something.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Yeah.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
And same thing with Carter Bryant. I think Carter Bryant's gonna be a phenomenal young player. But, bro, you ain't got to go one on one every time you see a one on one situation.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Yeah.
Guest Analyst (Possibly Chad Johnson)
Trying to get that ball in that bucket, huh?
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Trying to. Honestly, I feel like they. When they come in, they. They play so hard and rambunctious that they're trying to be the difference maker.
Guest Analyst (Possibly Chad Johnson)
Yeah.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
They don't even need all that. You just need to. You just need to control pace, bro. Just get great minutes. You know what I mean? But, you know, you get them trying to do too much, trying to get to the basket. Turnover lead to a bucket, you know what I mean? Next thing you know.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
Yep.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Hell, you got Luke Cornette in there with him, too. Hell, you.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
They.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
They just.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
And that's the problem. I mean, you might need to have. Might need to have, like, Kelton Johnson and Carter Bryant play with women instead of cornet. I can't have three of y' all on the damn court at one time. I already know how that's gonna end up. That's gonna end up in some bull drive.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Damn.
Guest Analyst (Possibly Chad Johnson)
Yeah.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
It's just like. You know what? And. And. And. And this is another reason why I couldn't coach. I understand. It's different now. Ho Cho. It's just different. The players are different. The money is different. What? It gets a player excited. Now, the great players, the really great players, they're still the same. Yeah, they're still the same.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Yeah.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
But now that player that, you know, I. You know what? I can be really good if I did this or. Nah, I'm still gonna make good money. Let me try to build my brand. Let me do some other stuff.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Yeah. Yeah.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
Winning is the easiest way to build your brand.
Ocho (Co-host/Analyst)
Yep.
Joe (Host/Analyst)
If Michael Jordan didn't win, he wasn't building no brand. If Kobe didn't win, he wasn't building no brand. Steph Curry, Braun, whoever, building a brand. Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, whatever. Look at what Lou what loser got a brand however you want to look at it?

Hosts: Shannon Sharpe (“Unc”), Chad “Ochocinco” Johnson, and Iso Joe Johnson
Date: June 14, 2026
This episode of Nightcap delivers instant, raw reactions to a historic moment in NBA history: the New York Knicks have broken a 53-year championship drought with a dramatic win over the San Antonio Spurs. Shannon Sharpe, Chad “Ochocinco” Johnson, and Joe Johnson (“Iso Joe”) celebrate the Knicks’ triumph, analyze Jalen Brunson’s MVP heroics, dig into the Spurs’ collapse, and reflect on broader lessons about team culture, leadership, and legacy in professional sports.
Jalen Brunson’s Finals MVP Performance:
“Jalen Brunson, you are now a God here in New York. I may be tripping, bro.” — Guest (07:24)
Brunson Among Greats:
“Guards with a 45 point and a closeout game in the finals since the merger: Michael Jordan, Jalen Brunson. That’s it.” — Joe (12:42)
Knicks’ Resilience:
"Every time, he [Brunson] comes up clutch in the fourth quarters, being most clutch player in the NBA. He showed it to you in that fourth quarter." — Ocho (10:59)
Supporting Cast & Team Dynamics:
Guard Missteps:
“The first thing I said was, ‘Ain’t no way in hell he gonna come out there and play normal.’” — Guest (17:19)
Dylan Harper’s Star Turn:
Late-Game Failures:
“Winning and losing off of that little rebound... That turnover led to a three... which cuts deep into the league. Now you start to see the tension start to get a lot tighter in the arena.” — Ocho (19:38)
Learning for the Future:
Mike Brown’s Masterstroke:
Team Construction & Sacrifice:
“He knew that if I get a max contract, they’re not gonna be able to put... they can't put pieces around me.” — Joe (28:29)
Knicks Euphoria:
“I can hear everything. It's lit. Oh, I know. New York lit... It's gonna be all night, Ocho. I'm talking about to the break of dawn.” — Guest (51:39, 63:58)
Brunson’s Immortal Status:
Legacy Cemented:
On Brunson’s NY Legacy:
“They need to take the Statue of Liberty, right, and etch out the face and put Jalen Brunson up there.” — Guest Analyst (09:59)
On Knicks’ Comeback Grit:
“For the Knicks, it’s like, ‘What was 16 points if we already done came back from 29?’… 16, wasn’t it 14 in the first game? There’s nothing to them, bro.” — Joe (30:09)
On Losing Big Leads:
“If you watch the Spurs... as long as you allow them to get up and down... The moment you get them in a half court set and the game slows down… that’s when you get the Knicks and a half court set. They got a guy of all the guys.” — Joe (36:03)
On Athletic Mentality:
“Winning is the easiest way to build your brand... What loser got a brand however you want to look at it?” — Joe (84:37)
Spurs’ Missed Opportunity (Recap):
“In Game 1, the Spurs led by 14. In Game 2, they led by 12. In Game 3... led by 12. In game 4, they led by 29. In Game 5, they led by 16. I don't know if we've had a situation in finals history we've seen a team lead every single game and only end up winning one.” — Joe (55:11)
General Sports Wisdom:
“A man once told me: ‘Son, be careful measuring your success with someone else’s ruler.’” — Joe (72:10)
Humorous Jabs: Running jokes about putting Brunson on the Statue of Liberty, the anguish and disbelief from Spurs’ collapses, and playful ribbing about legacy (“Oh, he ain't got to pay for another meal, no question.” — Ocho).
High-Energy Sports Analysis: Authentic, barbershop-style banter, especially from Ocho and Unc, with direct, sometimes blunt, critiques of players and coaches under the biggest spotlight.
Mentoring & Philosophy: Sharpe’s signature wisdom woven throughout (“Be careful measuring your success with someone else's ruler.”), blending life advice with high-level sports IQ.
For Knicks fans, it’s a moment of pure catharsis and celebration. For sports lovers, it’s a master class in resilience, clutch performance, and the power of star-making storylines.
