Uncle Ocho, I think Dan Peterson, obviously, you know, he's been criticized because of the crampy thing, taking themselves out of the game, only playing what, 23, 25 games of college. But listening to this young man talking, Ocho, he, he's here to prove people wrong, you know, and I, and I watched him play today, man. I'm talking about the poise and patience that the young man plays with. Obviously we know how gifted he is athletically, but how he plays in between the three point line in the rim midis, getting to the basket, shooting the 3, defending at a high level. The sky's the limit for this kid, bro. He looked good today. He probably, hey, hey, when you think about it, okay, Ocho, he probably put on the best performance today out of all the rookies. No doubt.

I think the thing is, sometimes you stumble into a situation because it would have been very, very interesting had Utah had the number one pick.

It caused us to pause. So I think they had, I don't really think they had a choice. I don't really think, I think the two number one overall, it was between Peterson and the Bonza.

I don't really think, you know, you hear other things say, well, Cameron Booth, and he does have a grown man NBA body.

But I don't really think he was ever considered for the number one or the number two pick. Joe Nothing between those two guys, debonza and Peterson, that's just me personally.

Oo, yeah, I mean you right. Obviously summer league is a small sample size of, of, of what you can do, you know, after leaving college. And even though it's not the best players, not the best of the best in the NBA. Once you can, you can get a tail, you can get a feel, you know, on how someone going to adjust, you know, at, at the next level. Joe, correct me if I'm wrong, especially when it comes from college, college to the NFL. You know, in football, the, the, the difference is the first thing players say is the speed of the game is much different. The game is much faster. I'm not sure if it's like that when it comes to basketball as well. What you think?

[Uncle Joe]

Yeah, it is like that. It's more. So, Ocho, can these guys get out here and can they look comfortable, you know, playing in the NBA, playing in the summer league? Because you got guys fighting for contract. So you got guys out here playing hard as I don't know what against these top picks, you know what I mean? So they getting the best defense. So for me, when I watched Dan Peterson today, how he ran the pick and roll, how patient he was, he wasn't sped up. And, and when he did speed up, Uncle Oo, he was getting to whatever he wanted to. Like, he didn't seem uncomfortable to me out there. He seemed like he was right at home. So with that being said, I, I think he has so many tools in his toolbox, bro. The sky's the limit for this kid. If they put, if, if you talking really put it together, man, they can really have something special in the next couple years because they got the talent. You just got to hope that talent meshes together and see, and that's what I said.

I give you a prime example, 84. It would have been very interesting to see if Chicago Bulls have the number one overall pick. Are they taking Michael Jordan? Are they taking AEM Elijah one? You see, the two other team took the guesswork out of their hands.

[Uncle Joe]

Yeah.

They took Elijah one, the Rockets took Elijah one, and the Trailblazers took Sam boy.

[Uncle Joe]

Yeah.

[Ocho]

So. So now I need you to make a decision. Oh, we knew we had a guy. We had and I think Rod Thorne, I think he was the general manager at the time that, that selected Michael Jordan. Yeah, I would have liked to see the situation, Joe. They have the number one overall pick and then select Michael Jordan. It's easy to say hindsight. They should have taken him, right? It's easy to say that. Yeah, because you have the ability. Hindsight is a perfect science. You have the knowledge of knowing today what you didn't know yesterday.

Hey, and the game, the game was played a lot different back then, Uncle Ocho. Meaning you played inside out back then. You wasn't playing it Wasn't perimeter heavy like it is nowadays?

No, no, no, no. You played through the big inside out. You're right, Joe.

To be able to come across a big like Hakeem. No, Chicago would have drafted him first if they had the number one pick to him.

Cuz you had, you had Kareem and you had, you know, you had Robert Parrish and you had Moses Malone. Teams had bigs and you had to account for that. That's why you saw a run on Biggs back then. I mean, everybody was taking big. I mean, then all of a sudden we got AI in 96.

Yeah, yeah.

But hey, okay, but it'd been interesting to see if there's a legit big in that draft. Is he going or do you take AI? Nah, I mean, let's just say for the sake of argument, Shaq's in that draft. You taking Shaq? Are you taking AI?

Well, you see, you're taking Shaq.

Most definitely, man.

And see, that's what I'm telling people. Like, well, they made a mistake. It's easy to say somebody made a mistake based on now, but you don't have that. You don't know. You're basically everything on a projection, right? And for Utah, Utah's like he fell in your lap. I mean, the most beautiful apple is way up there, up there high. And the wind, you can't reach it. But all of a sudden the gust of wind comes and blows it off. You're like, damn, it just landed in my damn hands.

Yeah, yeah.

I didn't have to do nothing. Yeah, they didn't have to do anything because they say, you know what? We're going to get a great player in the second spot. Either we getting the Bonza or we're getting Peterson.

[Uncle Joe]

Absolutely. And the way they looked at it. Hey, hey. But when you look at it on, I know Peterson played great today, but AJ's gonna be special too, you know?

[Ocho]

I absolutely agree.

I can't. I can't wait to see his debut. And when he gets out there on the court, I think he gonna put up monster numbers. I'm telling y', all, man, he is the prototypical guy of the NBA right now. 6, 9ish. Can do everything. Okay. Oh, do everything. Can playmate, can score, shoot the three, play in the mid post. Great footwork, make guys around him better. Yeah, I'm taking it. I'm taking him one if I got the first pick. I ain't gonna lie to you. I think he's that special. But I think this draft class is that special, too. It's a lot of guys who, man, I really look forward to see playing.

I. I agree with you, Joe. I think a lot of time at Ocho, you know, in football, yeah, they're like, okay, yeah, we want a guy that's really, really good. But at the end of the day, I want to be able to put my phone down and go to sleep at night. There you go.

When you tie it up and you look at the money, the top pick, A.J. the bombs, are gonna get $69 million over the guarantee, fully guaranteed. Then you see Mendoza, he's getting $60 million and so forth and so on. And so now, even with the NFL, every first round pick, money is guaranteed.

[Ocho]

The entire contract is guaranteed the first four years because now we can pick up the fifth year option, and then that becomes protected against everything except injury. And so now, guys, teams are going to be really, really, really conscious because they don't want their fan base. And it's a lot different now. The media is going to hammer you because they knew you had these red flags, like Justin Blackman, Ocho, everybody said, hold on, bro. Yeah. How y' all took this man, and y' all knew he had all these red flags.

He can be good or he can be bad. Hey, but you got $66 million tied up in it and that.

And you got all these flaws and. And character issues. They not willing to deal with that. Bro, you. Hey, hey, if I draft you and I'm paying you $70 million, 50 million, $40 million as a rookie, and you ain't.
