Oh the Steelers behind Mike McCarthy as their next head coach the Steelers owner and team president art rooneys the second cited McCarthy's previous accomplishments as a head coach and his ability to develop quarterbacks as a difference making trait. The Steve News of the Steelers intent to hire McCarthy was met with overwhelmingly negative response from fans on social media. Rooney response well, we're really not worried about winning the initial press conference. It's about picking the coach we believe will help us win games and social media really doesn't enter into it. And none of that matter once we start playing games. The message for our fans is we're very excited. We think we have a coach who's well equipped to lead us into the next winning phase of Steelers football. And with that, and that's what it is all about, I think we're going to love coach Mike Ocho. Do you like the hire for the Steelers?
F
I mean, I like Coach McCarthy in general. I mean everywhere, everywhere he's gone, he's had, he's had some, some success. He's had sex success with the Cowboys, but never did get them to the promised land like he would wanted to. He had success, he was with Green Bay. Never did get them to the promised.
E
Land like he won with Aaron Rogers.
F
I mean, he did, yeah, he won with Aaron Rodgers that one year. So I mean he, that's why I said he's had success on the places he's gone. I like the hire, but again, what are we doing, what are we doing with the quarterback situation? I read somewhere I saw something about he likes what he sees from Will Howard. No disrespect to brother Howard. I don't think he's the answer for the future. I'm just saying. And me and knowing and watching quarterbacks over the years that I've not only played, but watched this game in general and knows what it takes to be a quarterback in the NFL. I don't think he's the answer. Maybe I could be wrong, maybe he can prove me wrong. But if he was the answer, I'm sure they wouldn't have had to bring in a 42 year old Aaron Rodgers. Maybe it is the inclination in bringing Aaron Rodgers back so they can have that, that one, one more shot at it. Again, being that they're familiar with each other, Aaron Rodgers and Coach McCarthy. But again, I mean the higher is good as the coach that has that, that, that is used to winning. You know, he's, he's won before. But again, until you fix that situation at the quarterback position, it's just gonna be the same.
E
I look at it like this. Ocho the man had Brett Favre, Aaron Rodgers, Dak Prescott. 18 years, he's had exemplary quarterback play. He's got one Super bowl to show for it. He got three guys that's won seven MVPs. He got one Super Bowl. So for it, look at all the receipts. Look at all the great players that he's coached. Look at what he had when he had your Michael Finley, when he had Donald Driver and he had Greg Jennings and he had the white kid, the young man, Jordy Nelson, Eric Deck, Randall Cobb, James Johnson. Look at what he had in Dallas. Look at all the players that he had. So Aaron Rodgers, Brett Favre, Dak Prescott, Zeke Elliott, all those guys, what he's had. Yeah, one super bowl to show for it.
F
Hey, I got a question though. When we, when we break it down, right, and coaches that, and coaches that are available for these positions and, and I mean, who else would you hire though? You think about it, especially if like if we're going to bring up the resumes of what these coaches have done in the past, the only, the only hire where people would be acceptance of, would be accepting of what they've done in the past based on resume and accolades would be that of Bill Belichick. And, and he's not walking through.
E
I don't think nobody want Steelers. I think the people, you know from talking around the league, they don't think he, you know, they don't think he can win without Tom Brady. They don't know how well he relates to the modern day player.
F
Right?
E
I know people say, Brian, just guys, let me ask you this. If a guy was suing your company or the company you're affiliated with, will you hire him? You know, Brian, Brian Flores had a lawsuit pending against the NFL, right? Oh, Joe, do we know that? Oh, did we forget?
F
I think, I think a lot of people might have forgot that.
E
Well, let me first remember he had the pending lawsuit against the NFL. A cough drop.
F
Hey, you know what? I think people have been spoiled too. People have been spoiled by watching the, watching the Patriots over the years super bowl always being an attention. I think people have been spoiled by the goddamn the Eagles and the success that they had as. As of late, obviously not this year. I think people have been spoiled by the Chiefs and the sex success that they've always had with Patrick Mahomes. Not really understanding unknown how difficult it is to consistently win or how difficult it is to actually reach a Super Bowl. And seeing these teams go in a short amount of time over and over, they think it's attainable every single year. It's.
E
Well, you get guys like Brady Mahomes that make it look so routine. People think, well, why can't everybody do that? No, it's not easy. What Tom Brady did for two decades is not easy. What Patrick Mahomes has done is in 10 years get to five Super Bowls and win three is not easy.
F
Now that's crazy when you think about it, that's crazy. Damn.
E
Y' all could be talking. Y' all can talk all you want to. I'm just saying real. I'm just asking you chat. So if somebody is going to sue your company, the company that you work for, would you hire said individual? Why you think you ain't nobody called John Grude. No, Joe, John Groove got a lawsuit.
F
John would be a. John would be a nice one. That John is a good coach.
E
No, the Shield is the 32 owners. And if they lose this case, 32 owners are going to have to pay. I.
F
Hey, man, I got a goddamn fly in the house, man.
E
Why do I hate the Steelers? I'm trying to figure out why I hate the Steelers, though. The hate days for the Steelers is long, long gone. Long, long, long, long, long gone.
F
Yeah. I mean I've never hated, I've never hated to Steelers.
E
You had to if you want. If you play for the Ravens.
F
Oh, even. Even though. Oh yeah.
E
You have no choice.
F
Understand y' all rivalry. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. I mean but when you look at the coaching, I mean, who, who else you think about it? If it wasn't Mike McCarthy, then who?
E
I mean, Kub, I sure wish Clint could have got that job at Baltimore, but I think I, I think Baltimore, yes, in Baltimore. I think that. Can you imagine? You see how he dialed it up? I'm thinking that Steve Bishad is thinking, well, I have Lamar Jackson. Lamar Jackson has won two MVPs in two different systems. So it doesn't matter who's coaching him on offense, he's going to be great. I need somebody to fix this broken down defense. I'm thinking that's how, that's how Steve Bichat is thinking. I could be right, but that's what I'm thinking and I think that's why he went defense instead of offense. And I, and I want Clint to get a job so bad, but man, if he go to the Raiders, he ain't got no quarterback.
F
Why would, why, why would you think he'd take that job? Why would anybody take the Raiders or the Brown job? Browns out outside of the chance. I don't listen these, these, these situations, the opportunities don't present themselves often. So I'm going to take the job knowing I'm only be there for two or three years.
E
True.
F
For what?
E
I guess, I guess they're looking at it like, you know what? They're gonna get the number one pick, the Raiders. They'll take Mendoza and Clint can work his magic with that. I'm thinking that's what they're thinking, Ocho. I'm being honest. I'm thinking that's what they're thinking.
F
I would take the Raiders job. Only if we're taking Mendoza. Yes. And we getting number three from Dallas and bring it on over there to pair with Brock Bowers and Trey Tucker. That's it. Now if that's not happening. I'm good.
E
Boy. DK probably kicking himself.
F
Why he had the Steelers.
E
The team he just left going to the Super Bowl. What you mean why? Can you imagine you go to New England and Cincinnati go to the Super Bowl. Boy, you lost your damn mind.
F
Well actually it was the opposite way I left Cincinnati.
E
But you are your felt. You didn't feel a part of that. You a bingo. I didn't.
F
I didn't. I'm always a bingo.
E
So imagine the bingo go to the Super Bowl.
F
Yeah. Hey, I would have got to get over me. They would have gave me one. I would have got one. Hey, I would have got one made.
E
Art Rooney II said on Steelers head coaching search we wound up bringing three guys in for in person interviews. Brian Flores, Mike McCarthy and Anthony Weaver. And then we sat down and talked about whether we had our man. If we wanted to bring more people in for in person interviews. We decided that Mike was the man for the job. So we went ahead and offered him the job on Saturday. The Rooney rule they brought two guys. They brought three. Three player three coaches in. Two are African Americans. The Rooney rule is named after them, which means minorities get an opportunity. They did it. They hired Mike Tomlin. Now they interviewed others. Okay. He felt they felt that Mike McCarthy was the best for the job. Two guys are defensive guys. And they said we want somebody that can develop a quarterback. We have yet to develop a quarterback since you know Ben Roethlisberger. But they had Ken Wisenhunt and they had Bruce Arians. Hope it works.
F
I told you should put your name in the hat for one of your coaching jobs. You would have got picked up quick. Boy.
E
I want no part of that because I don't want people cause people already criticizing Mike McDonald because he say he sees his kid about 30 minutes a week and everybody like that ain't no flex. That ain't no flex. Well, tell me the coach. Tell me the coach. Every coach always says the same thing. The kids, you know, the mom and. And you know what you sign up for when you marry a coach, you know he's not going to be around like a regular guy on a 9 to 5. So the the wives or girlfriends or whomever is is accepting of that. Every coach doesn't know. Burn the midnight oil.
F
Yeah. Always blank. Hey listen. Blankets and pillows in the rooms. Blankets and pillows in all the coaches offices because of the time spent game planning, watching film, preparing the car cue cards for the next day. I mean so hearing that I saw the clips and I saw the quote Saying that.
E
I want to know how much time you think the coach actually spends. Ocho, he actually spends at home during the season.
F
Hey, a. A little bit of none. A little bit of none. Because some nights you don't even go home. If they wasn't going home back then, I know damn well they're not going home now simply because of the preparation it takes to prepare for a game week to week, especially as a game.
E
Games like this is a profession, you.
F
Know, where it matters even more.
E
It's a. It's a thing, maybe.
F
Listen, baby, I'm gonna be here all week, baby.
E
I'm.
F
I'm not gonna see you. You and the kids can come on and stop by, though.
E
Yeah, that's probably what happened. They probably might have dinner in his office.
F
Yeah.
E
But I don't have no problem with it.
F
And now look. Look where they are now because of the time he's put in the work when they. If they. If. And if they win the super bowl and you get to make. You get to make up all that time you missed during those six months. You understand what you signed up for? Depending on who you date.
E
I want to know the guy. That makes that kind of money and he works a nine to five. So tell me. That's the job I want. Now tell me the guy that works 9 to 5, Ocho, he works a normal hour and make that kind of money.
F
How much you make? How much?
E
We talking what coaches make? Somewhere between 10 and 20 million dollars a year.
F
Oh, on a nine to five. So that's six months out of the year. Nine to five. Six months. 20 million a year. 11. 20 million a year. So that's my calculator. That's about. Okay, carry the one. Yeah. Okay. Ain't nothing out there like that.
E
Of course not.
F
Not no nine to five.
E
But when you. When you do sports, it's just like the reporters do. Y'. All. Hey, hey. Y' all miss deadline. Y' all make it seem like y' all there for every event for y' all kids. Who. Who was. That's a sport I'm trying to figure out. I want to know the guy that every recital, every pta, every game, everything that they were there for. Even the most doting and loving dad. I want to know the one that if he played a professional sport, if he was a coach, that he was there for everything that the kids did, like a.
B
Like a father.
E
That's at a nine to five. I want to know. Because normally when you get into these jobs, you already know what comes along with it, the same thing I tell people when they talk about, you know, you know, I want to do this or I want to be in sports. Okay. You okay working weekends? I don't mind working weekends. What about holidays, man? You know, that's what. This ain't for you. I don't know if you noticed. They play sports on holidays. Are you okay with not spending holidays with your family? Oh, okay. Find something that allow you to spend holidays and weekends with your family. This ain't for you. Sports, not for you.
F
I mean, I. Obviously, those. I mean, for. For. For the average person that's. That's probably not used to it, maybe doesn't understand what it comes to the sacrifice that comes into not only being a player, but being a coach. They probably won't understand it. They probably won't understand it. There's no explanation that can be given where they will understand it. They just won't. What it commands, the sacrifice it takes for one to have the success that coaches had this year.
E
No, I just. I can tell people it's just football. I can tell people that's never. Never played anything. You got the nine to five.
F
Who. Who said in just football?
E
Yeah.
F
Somebody say that it is.
E
Do you? No.
F
Yeah, it's to people that play life or death, man.
E
But like I said, I want y' all to tell.
F
That's how you pay your bills.
E
I want them to tell me the guy that was a professional, that a professional athlete or coach that was at every event for the child growing up. So they made all the PTAs, they made all the recitals. They made all the practices. They made everything. You can't. Because guess what? There are some guys that work 9 to 5 and can't make it because they got to pull over time. Y' all say. Y' all say anything to try to get. And then.
F
And.
E
And we got so many sheep that just follow. Yeah, you right. That ain't no flex. That man chose this. And to be great, you got to put it. If all you do is work 9 to 5 and you will not be great as what you're. As a professional athlete or a coach. Now, you can work a 9 to 5 and be great at your job, working 40 hours a week. To each his own. I don't begrudge anybody because I worked a 9 to 5. Well, it was more than 9 to 5. More like 7 to 7. But anyway, you get the idea.
F
Same.
E
But for me, I wanted more. I didn't want. And there's nothing wrong with that, but I didn't want with a 9 to 5 because I couldn't provide for my family with that. My grandmother had worked long, hard enough. My grandma had slept on that. That terrible mattress long enough. It lived in that house long enough. That wasn't enough for me and my brother.
F
And. And it's not. This is the type of pissed me off somebody in the chat. So now we glorifying absent fathers. So everything, everything we're saying is just.
E
Going over because that's. Yeah, hold on. There are a lot of fathers that don't. Don't. That's not a professional athletes. Not there anybody glorify. No absentee father. You just understand there are certain.
F
Are we not part of it? Are we not. Are we not listening? You just explained it in how it is for those that are part of certain world and certain occupations and certain jobs. It comes with what you do.
E
But be a stay at home dad. You late to the show, bro. We already talked about the Broncos losing. You late. You late to the show, bro. We hour. We hour and a. Have we. 90 minutes into the show, you talking about. Don't want to talk about the Broncos losing. Oh, yo, we just spent 35 minutes talking about the Broncos losing. The Bills promoted offensive coordinator Joe Brady as the next head coach earlier this week. The division. The decision to fire Sean McDermott and elevate Brady rather than clean house is now under heavy scrutiny. Oo. Are you confident that Joe Brady is the guy?
F
I mean, what's the goddamn difference? He was already there. Hell, you might as well kept me. You might as well have kept Mr. McDermott. Joe, that don't make no sense to me. Yeah, if you're a head coach and someone that's under you, you know, I mean, if, if you find McDermott, why the hell everybody else ain't fired?
E
They want a different voice in there.
F
Ocho, man, come on now. Come on now.
E
They have. Brandon Bean kept his job. I don't know how he kept it. Yeah, that's what I need somebody to help me explain that to me because it seemed like Sean McDermott called all the criticism. And I get it, you know, Mr. Pula, you know, he's supporting his GM because he gave him more title. But those players, I, I think, you know, he wanted to put. What's the. Keon Coleman. He put that in the lap of Sean McDermott. Yeah, I just.
F
It's crazy. A new voice.
E
That's the same voice you heard. I look, I, I don't look, I, I think Joe Brady did a phenomenal Job.
F
Yes.
E
I think the thing is, Ocho, is that Sean McDermott, you know, his defense, they've been one of the top offenses, but defensively, it's kind of where they falter.
F
Yeah.
E
And that. That's his level of expertise. Remember they fired Leslie Frazier.
F
Yes. Yeah. Leslie Frazier was our D coordinator in Cincinnati, too, huh? Yeah. Let's be free. Yeah, Frazier.
E
So what's the. What do you think? Super bowl or bus this year, Ocho, for the Bills, I mean.
F
Well, hell, that was supposed to be this, y'.
E
All this year.
F
This was the easiest route for him. You ain't had to deal with three or three of the better players out of the afc, you know, so maybe. Maybe next year. Maybe next year's a little different. Maybe he can. He can. He can run the gauntlet. He can beat Mahomes, he can beat Burrow, he can beat.
E
We don't know.
F
We don't know what next year is going to look like, but, hell, damn.
E
What the bills need. Receiver. A1.
F
They. They gotta.
E
I think the thing is, look, they turned too many turnovers. This was on Josh. This one's on Josh because Josh was really good in the postseason, Joe. He hadn't had a turnover in six playoff games. He picked the worst time to have the most turnovers he's had in a very long time. It's hard to win on the road with five turnovers, and four of them is at the hands of your quarterback. Now, guys, fumbling and stuff like that ain't really a whole lot you could do about that. But this. This was on Josh's watch. So it's. It's. It's tough. And you know Sean McDermott. I know Sean McDermott. Oo. And I was talking about, look, this grandstanding. He knew he couldn't challenge that. He knew that call, the call, what it was, and he knew the, you know, you got to survive the ground. But he knew they probably had. They. If they didn't flat out tell him, they had probably alluded to, you're gonna need to get to the super bowl in order to stay in the job.
F
He probably knew that.
E
Oh, I knew because I talked about this in Ocho. You laughed at me because I told you in October, he's like, you think, Brother McDermott? I said, oh, yeah, absolutely.
F
Yeah. Yeah, he did. You did say he was out of there if they didn't win.
E
What I tell you about. What I tell you about the Steelers and the Ravens, the coaching situation? Harbaugh. Yeah.
F
Oh, yeah, yeah. New voice. You said loud and clear.
E
Yeah harbor been there for a minute 18. He been there 18 years and Tomlin had been there 19. Damn.
A

The Browns Ocho have hired former Ravens office of coordinator Todd Monkin to be the next head coach. Monkin, who has spent the last three seasons in Baltimore, will become the Cleveland's 11th full time coach since returning to the NFL in 1999. In Monkin's first season with the Ravens, he helped Lamar Jackson win his second MVP in 2023. Despite the great success in 23 and 24 with Monkett as Ravens OC as Monkey AS as Lamar OC Monkin had chemistry issues during the previous season as reported by team sources. Monkin demanding coaching style clash with Lamar's preference. Ocho. Yeah, how do you see Todd Monkin handling the battle between Shador and desean if the D if he couldn't deal with Lamar.
F
But listen, he's had some success with Lamar. It doesn't matter who coach Lamar. Lamar is going to be who Lamar is. Joe, you can go out there and coach Lamar. He going to be the exact player he's always, he's always been. He's going to be that two time MVP type player that can change the dynamic of a game. At any point Todd Monk is gonna have to get in his bag over there in Cleveland.
E
Do more than that.
F
He's going to have. He gonna have to get in this bag as an officer coordinator and have a plan. I'm not sure what that plan is going to be. I'm not sure who you're going to go with whether DeSean Watson, whether it's tell Dylan Gabriel or whether it's your door Sanders. But he's going to have to find and find out very quick who going to be the goal, who's going to be quarterback number one in this team. And after that then you figure out what you're going to do in the other surrounding areas offensively where you need help and they're going to need a lot of help. I have no problem with the hire itself. He's had success obviously with Lamar. But there is no Lamar Jackson in Cleveland. No, there is no Lamar Jackson in Cleveland. Therefore everything Todd Monkin has to provide to help those quarterbacks. He gonna have to be in his bag, huh? He got to be in it.
E
Remember he won two national championships with Stetson Bennett as a quarterback at the University of Georgia.
F
Hold on, wait a minute. Stetson Bennett as his quarterback on a Georgia team that was loaded on goddamn defense. Now he has, he's going back to a team where they're loaded on defense. Now, the Achilles heel for the Cleveland Browns has always been on offense. If you can get that offense on point, just meet him. Meet him halfway on just maybe somewhere, Joe. In the middle of the pack, you ain't got to be top five. You got to be top five. Just meet us and meet us half goddamn way, please.
E
They got some promising young talent, though, Uncle Ocho.
F
What's the Titan name?
E
Fanny. Oh, Fanny. Boy, that Hal Fanning Jr.
F
Damn it. Hey, that young boy. Hey, that young boy there. What? Hey, Joe. He is the real deal.
E
Yes, sir, he's the real.
F
And speaking of. And speaking of the Cleveland Browns. Hey, hey. If I see Miles Garrett anywhere in Santa Clara. Yeah, he got to see me.
E
He gave your jersey away.
F
Joe. He sent the jersey to the hall of Fame instead of getting it to me, knowing I asked for it first.
E
Man, we told you he was gonna do that.
F
Hey, Joe. Hey, Joe. I'm gonna mollywap him, Joe.
E
Hey, Ocho. Ocho, leave that alone. Let that go.
F
No, no, no, no, no, you don't. You don't disrespect me like that. You told me you was gonna give me the jersey, so that means you're supposed to be a man of your word and give me the jersey. I don't care who asked for it. If I ask first and you say yes, now I gotta whoop your ass.
E
Well, I don't think he gonna be ducking no smoke.
F
Yeah, but he ain't got a duck. He ain't got a duck. He ain't got a duck. He gonna get what he looking for.
E
Okay.
F
He think he had 23 sacks and gonna be 24 when I get done with him.
A
Oh, okay.
E
I think the thing is, for me, Ocho. Let me know what you think, Joe. I think it'll be easy. It's hard to coach superstar quarterbacks. It's hard. It ain't easy. Ask anybody that's ever had to coach him. You think it's easy coaching Don Brady now? It makes your job easy, but they gonna need to know. They need to know what you're telling me is on a legit. They got questions. They gonna need you to give them answers. Not where I get back to you. No. You better find. You better know the answer. It's not easy coaching these guys now, because these guys are brainy. I mean, you talk about Lamar and Lamar like Lamar, like. Hold on. Who you. Who you yelling? Who you think you're talking to?
F
And I'm so glad you just mentioned that. Too well, how hard it is to coach quarterbacks. And I'm not sure if you've seen the clip, Joe. I'm sure you saw the clip, Unc. I know you've seen it before, but goddamn Bill o' Brien and Tom going at it on the sideline, and Brady going down the sideline. Chad, I don't know if you guys have seen that clip, you know, so if they went at it like that on the sideline, what you think happened in practice?
E
Oh, yeah.
F
Hey, Joe, one of the greatest times of my life being a New England Patriot is goddamn Bill o' Brien and Tom Brady going at it in practice for about five minutes straight. I'm talking about. You think I'd be messing up cursing on here sometimes.
E
Oh, Tom.
F
Hey, hey, Joe. I was sitting there smiling ear to ear.
E
I'm like, oh, boy, they really like Tom.
F
Hey, Dave, I'm so. I'm like, oh, this is how it is. No one of these dudes win all the goddamn time. Everything got to be right, Joe. Yeah, everything has to be perfect. If it's not perfect, you're doing it over and you're not doing the playover. You starting the whole period over and doing it again. That's what was expected of everybody, especially offensively. So when things didn't go right, Tom got on Bill. When things didn't go right, Bill got on tomorrow. And they kept that standard no matter what. And it helped me understand. Well, God damn, no wonder they went all the goddamn time. And, dog, I wish you could have been there to see that. I ain't never in the history of all the time that played the game of football, ever seen a quarterback and a coach go at it like that. But it was awesome. And from that point on, the rest of practice, imac.
E
Oh, you got to have a standard.
F
One mistake, not one drop ball, no nothing. It's just. Everything went smooth. We went out there. I forgot who we played that week, man, we put up about back damn near 40 points. Joe. Put a band of 40 points.
E
Hey.
F
Oh, that's a year we went to the Super Bowl, Joe. Yeah, we won the super bowl that year, man.
E
There has to be a level of expectation. Oh, yeah, I lost two that year. Ojo, Giants.
F
The Giants, man.
E
Oh, yeah, Eli.
F
Yeah, Eli caught up Mario Manningham on.
E
The sideline against cover, too.
F
Yeah, on the salad.
E
He dropped it in the bucket, Ocho. He dropped it.
F
That was a beautiful throw. That was a beautiful throw.
E
Yeah. That's why, look, you know, being around John and being around Mike, because Mike was like that for real. You might get away if you drop one in a team, period. Drop two started over. Lord, please do I. All I'm saying, I don't want to be the one. Right, right, right, man. Boy, look here. Mike was. Hell, man. There's a. When I say, he said, don't accept anything in the win. You wouldn't have lost.
F
Yeah. He meant that.
E
Yeah. He had to have. We had to get it. I mean, run, catch any path. I don't give a damn if it was a down flat. You finishing 40 yards. 40. Yeah.
F
And come back and they got to run back.
E
Yeah. But then you like, okay, now understand why we do it. You get a greater appreciation for why you do things. And you see. Okay, so this is why the 49ers had success. Cause they were. They were like the patriots in the 80s.
F
Yeah.
E
You're like, okay, now I see. Now I see who. Brown's defensive coordinator, Jim Schwartz, might be out of the door after the team hired Monkin as his head coach, according to Tom Pelissero. Pelicero reported. Man, that Swartz, who's one of the three finalists, was visibly upset and said goodbyes in the building and told other coaches he's not coming back. Opposing teams are reportedly ready to pounce if he leaves. Also, Miles Garrett just posted on ig. That's bro sitting down like, damn.
F
Hey, hey, Joe, you see that lady that work at Popeyes? See how she look?
E
Yes, sir.
F
That just how I'm gonna have Miles looking when I catch up to him out there in Santa Clara. Just like that.
E
Miles, like, man, this man just got me a unanimous defensive player of the year. I was playing good with this man and Nicki, which was what y' all do.
F
Hey, hey, Unc, come on, now. You know, man, listen, anybody. You could have been coaching that Browns defense. Miles Garrett still would have got them 23 sacks. He still would have been an All Pro. As a matter of fact, even if Mr. Schwartz is leaving, whoever comes in to take over that goddamn defense. You got the pieces in the personnel where you gonna be?
E
All right, man.
F
You got the pieces in the personnel, where you gonna be all right. That was the top five defense all season long now, right? Yeah, Joe, they ain't shabby at all.
E
Yeah, no, I checked them out a few times. They did their thing. They're good defense, very good. They just need some pieces offensive. They need a wide receiver. They need offensive line help. I think in Joku's gonna leave, so get another tight end. Do you really who's gonna leave. Yeah, yeah, that why they got Fanning then. It don't hurt to have two of them though, Joe. You find you one in the fourth or fifth round.
F
Hey, hey, Fanning.
E
Oh, I like it. I like him. I like him a lot.
F
And he nice.
E
You think njoku gonna require too much money. They gonna move like you said, they got. They got Fanning. So, you know, we go draft the tight end, we get him on a low number, run a lot of double tight end sets. Yeah, look at the Patriots. They got Hooper and they got Hunter Henry. You look at the Bills team, you know, it definitely helps.

The Baltimore Ravens are hiring Los Angeles charges defensive coordinator Jesse Mentor as the next head coach. Yeah, the reports Mentor is signing a five year deal, a five year contract. Mentor was immediately reviewed as one of the favorites for the position and was an assistant under John Harbaugh in Baltimore from 2017 to 2020. Ocho, the Ravens defense hasn't lived up to the standard of hard nosed defense we expect in Baltimore. Was this a safe pick for the Ravens or was it the right pick for the Ravens?
F
It's the right pick for someone that's already been around there that knows what it's like to play like a Reverend A Raven. Understanding that moniker, understanding the rich history in which those defenses have always played with since the early 2000s, trying to bring that back, trying to bring that culture back of defensive players creating a certain atmosphere. When you come to play the goddamn Ravens, bring two chin straps. That's what it was like during our time. Bring two chin straps because it's going to be a game of straight physicality, being able to dominate on the defensive end. Obviously you had Lamar Jackson and the offense and what they're able to do, but they need to bring their identity back in being the Ravens of old. Even though we're in 2026, this is the right coach to be able to do that. He knows defense, he understands that. He has a defensive mind and obviously they're going to be some changes that are made. They need to obviously address the issues on that front end because hell, you, you, you got Marlon Humphrey, you got brother, you know, brother Wiggins. Hey, if, if, if I was running routes for eight seconds, I'd be able to get open too because they ain't put no pressure on no goddamn body. But I think he was the right coach. Unk. He wasn't a safe one. He was the right one. So I'm hoping he does, you know, that team justice, that organization justice and get the Ravens back to what we're used to, seeing them on the defensive end.
E
You know, when you say play like a Raven and the defense used to be, you know, Ray Lewis, hall of Famer ain't coming through that door. Ed Reed, hall of Famer ain't coming through that door. Former defensive player of the year and future hall of Famer. Terrell's. Terrell Suggs ain't coming through that door. Yeah. Lodi Nada, not coming through that door.
F
Yeah.
E
They don't have the same level of defensive talent that they once had. And I think that's where it starts. And you mentioned up front, I think they, they, they need, they need some, they need edge players. They need somebody that can get to the quarterback.
F
Yeah.
E
And they haven't had that in a while. Calvin. Or turned back the high of the time two years ago and had a career year. But to expect him to be that when he's only been that one time in his 10, 11 year career. I think you're asking a bit much. When the guy they traded to the Chargers, he leaves the Ravens, have zero sacks, goes to the Charger, have seven and a half in about six weeks.
F
Yep.
E
So I don't know if it was scheme. I don't know if he was unhappy. I don't know what it was. But he looked like a different player.
F
Yes.
E
In that. With the charges that he did. Now, obviously he got better players around him. He got Khalil Mack, he got the Samoan sensation. They got guys that can flow. They got fast as Linesburger with Perryman and Henley. They got Derwin James, who's basically Kyle Hamilton. Derwin James, okay, I can see that. But my only question is, okay, you get a defensive mind. Steve Bashad is familiar with him. He's been in the building for about four years. He left and he came back. Who are you going to get as an offensive coordinator?
F
That's important.
E
That is the most important thing. Now, Lamar said he wanted Clint. He liked Clint Kubiak. He loved the way he attacked the field. He loved how he always stresses the defense. They didn't hire him. Now he's not leaving Seattle for a lateral move to go to Baltimore. So I just don't know who they're going to get as an offensive coordinator.
F
Right.
E
But they definitely need some players. Ocho, they, they've got to get. They've got to get.
F
Hold on. I don't like when you say it like that. You said they need some players. They don't need just some Players, there are a lot of players to go. They need hold, they need impact players, impact players at Pacific positions, the first level and the second level. First level and the second level. I'm not sure who you can get that, can, that can play the nine technique. I'm not sure you can get at the, at the middle backup position because sometimes Roquan Smith gets exposed on passing down because that's not what he does. He's not good at that. Roquan Smith is a very, very good linebacker. I think he would have been much better during our era, huh? Yes, would have been much better during our era. So, I mean, listen, I like him, but they need improvement, tremendous improvement, you know, and this, this is, this is, I'm not biased because I'm a Bengal fan. I watched the Ravens, you know, in depth, in watching them play, and I know what improvements they need to make defensively for them to get back to where they need to get to. They got to meet the offense halfway, just halfway, because they were, they was at the bottom of the league most goddamn season. Even though they got better as the season went on.
E
Well, I mean, I, I'd hope they couldn't get worse. I think the thing is, is that like when you have that level of defense and what the Ravens fans are used to, they had Ray Lewis for 17 years. They had subs for like 13, 14 years. They had Ed Reed for over a decade. You had, hello, nada. They're used to the Rod woods and all those guys that were there that started this. They're used to that level of play and they're not, they don't look you, you're probably not. There's, there's a less than 0.5% chance that you'll find another Ray Lewis. Yeah. Or Ned Reed. You talk about two of the greatest players to ever play this game in 100 plus year history. So let's just set that to the side. But I think you can get some players that are better that, that, that, that can do, that can perform at a level that are better than what they performed at. That's unacceptable. That's unacceptable. Now, I, I, I, I, I, I hope Lamar comes back healthy. He had a short season, he didn't make the playoffs, so hopefully he gets those hamstrings healed up, he's ready to, he's ready to come back. But I'm, I'm really anxious to see who's the offensive coordinator and what type of system they're going to run because that is the most important thing. Lamar Jackson is your most valuable asset. The best thing you can do is put him in the best possible situation for him to succeed. That gives you the best chance of winning. Now, once you get that lead, Ocho having a, a sustainable defense. Yeah, because think about all those leads that they had. Remember they had a 15 point lead and they end up losing to Buffalo. Think about all the leads. They had a lead to the Patriots and lost that one. So we see a reoccurring theme about especially over the last two years, that get the lead but unable to hold the lead.
F
Yeah.
E
And so the offensive coordinator is going to be very, very. I thought they would go an offensive route because they went special teams route and John harbor to hit it out the park. You couldn't ask for anything. They got 18 years out of a Super bowl, many division titles and some playoffs. And so with Lamar Jackson, I thought they would probably go offense and give him something.
F
Right.
E
But the offensive coordinator is going to be the most important thing. Who do you get to coordinate that offense that can take. That can be most beneficial to Lamar, that receiving core? And you got Derek Henry. What, what type of offense are you going to run, Ocho? What, what, what are you going to do? That's the most important thing.
F
Yeah, most definitely. And you know what? Also, I wouldn't mad. I wouldn't mind adding another receiver.
E
Oh, yeah, yeah. Yes, absolutely.
F
I'm talking about. I'm talking about an outside guy. We know they can play. They can, they can play on the outside, but he's more of a slot guy. He can dominate intermediate.
E
Yeah, he's small.
F
Yeah. I would love someone on the outside. That's a dog. That, that's, that's, that's young, maybe a little bit right outside their prime, but still good enough to take over a goddamn game at any point.
E
I'm trying to solo Ojo. Yeah. It's just hard. I mean, you got to be really, really special to be that size and be. Play outside. I mean, there are not a whole lot of five, nine guys. I mean, you talk about a Steve Smith or you talk about a Tyreek Hill. You talk about guys with exceptional. Tyreek had just, just God gift.
F
Yeah.
E
Natural speed. Steve Smith was just flat out, he played with a different type of mentality.
F
Mentality. Yeah.
E
So, I mean, and to be outside, to play outside them numbers and to be that boy, you got to really be that boy. But I'm really anxious. I'm happy for the Ravens. We're going to see what, what they do in that division. Joe. Joe Burrows there. We don't know what's going to happen with Aaron Rodgers. Does he come back to the Steelers? Does he move on? I don't know if he's going to want to come back. 41, pushing about to be 42.
F
Right.
E
And, and, and he's not pushing the ball down the field. And when you don't push the ball down the field, because in order to push the ball down the field, Ocho, you got to take some licks.
F
Yeah.
E
And when you get old, you don't like, think about it as you get older. You don't want to fall, you don't want to do anything. You become very, very careful. It's hard to be careful on the football field, Ocho.
F
It is, it is, it is. And matter of fact, and wanting to take the shots down the field, it makes it very, very difficult when you got only got one person that you can use to do that. And we saw that with the absence of DK Metcalf.
E
Correct.
F
Them offense got. Damn. You know, it stalled in a sense because there was no one that would take the cup to take the top off the coverage.
E
Correct.
F
So you got to Damn near go 11, 12, 14, play, 13 play.
E
Yeah, you're right. You do. So the, the next question, who do they hire as an offensive coordinator? And I want, I wonder if they. Steve Bishadi, you know, like, hey, basically, and I'm paraphrasing here.
F
Yeah.
E
Said Lamar does have some power, but he doesn't have as much as me. So, yeah, I will take. I will listen, I will take some advice. But the final decision comes down to. To what do I want.
F
Yeah, sounds good.
E
It sounds. So I was hoping to get an offensive guy. I'm talking about one of these offensive gurus. I was really hoping that Ocho. But hey, Steve knew what he would look for. Obviously he saw something when the guy was there and he saw something.
F
So, yeah, I think, I think. I think Bashadi also understands that we need to get a defensive mind in here to help us with this goddamn defense. We need somebody to help us with this goddamn defense and get us back to a respect level that we used to have. Defensively, the offense is going to take care of itself. Lamar healthy. Lamar is going to be able to take care of itself. Regardless of who we bring in there to run our offense, we're going to be fine because we have one of the best three, five quarterbacks in the NFL. We gonna be all right in that area. But they goddamn defense being as bad as they were at the Beginning of the season, man, we ain't, we ain't gonna be deadly squad. We couldn't, we, we couldn't be the Sisters of the north with that damn defense they had.
E
They. I, I think the thing is and because Lamar Jackson's won a MVP with Greg Roman, he's won an MVP with Todd Monkin. Steve probably thinking, hell we get anybody here, that's Lamar Jackson, he's that special.
F
Bingo.
E
And I really do. Oh, yo, and that's not to, that's not to be dismissive or anyone because I think, you know, it takes a little something. I mean that, that says something. But Greg Roman has coordinated a Super bowl offense. Remember he had Cap.
F
Yeah.
E
He was the OC when Cap went to the super bowl and there was a throw away in the end zone from being a Super bowl champ. So Greg Roman, I mean you look, his is, his offense is a little mundane sometimes. Yes. I thought Todd Monkey did a very good job with Lamar, given this year. Lamar was not healthy, but I thought he did a great job.
F
Yeah.
E
But I mean now he's with the Giants and you know, he has scattered. I look like he's gonna have, you know, be with John and the Giants and they got Scatter Boo and they, you know, they got Malik neighbors if he comes back healthy and I think Wandell Robinson will be there. I like the title. I forget his name, but I think they have and Jackson dart I think he could do because look, he a two time national championship winning offensive coordinator with the Georgia Bulldogs and what he did with Stetson Bennett who was two times offensive most outstanding player in a national championship game.
F
Yeah.
E
So the Baltimore Ravens hired Jesse Mentor, the former defensive coordinator for the Los Angeles Chargers to be the next head coach. And if he can have a tenure similar to John Harbaugh. Steve, you did it. You've done it again.
F
Done it again. Yeah.
E
Ocho the chat wants to know where you got that, that T shirt from.
F
Oh, this shirt. Hey, for, for those, for those in the chat. I'm sure you're probably laughing at it because all the colors. But if you have your phones on your hand, you can Google this is the legendary, the iconic Mexican goalkeeper by the name of George Campos. That's J O R G E Campos, you know. Yeah, yeah. Or Jorge or Jordan, however you want to say it. But he. I'm talking about a legend, a true, A true legendary goalkeeper from Mexico. He sent me. He sent me this jersey. It's signed on the back. So I'm wearing it tonight. Obviously I'm going to be wearing vintage and current and and 80s 70s soccer jerseys from now on for, for the, for the, for the rest of the time. So you're always going to see stuff that looks kind of weird. That's from back in the days. But if there's anybody in the chat that's Mexican, obviously you know who George Campos is. For those of you that don't, you can google him. And when he, when he, when he pops up, you'll see all his shirt and his attire was always very flashy, like liberation.
E
Very colorful.
F
Yeah. Very colorful. Yeah.
E
Will reportedly be one task to turning around the Las Vegas Raiders. According to Adam Schefter, after meeting Saturday with Las Vegas and Arizona Seahawks offensive coordinator intends to try to work out a deal to become the next head coach of the Oak. Excuse me, the Las Vegas Raiders. No deal can be finalized to after the super bowl. But Clint wants to coach the Raiders and they want him to be their head coach. Now it's only a matter of time before the two sides can formula formalize a deal. It seems to be the going rate is somewhere between five and seven years. You're probably looking at somewhere between eight and $12 million.
F
Kubiak would be 12, but okay.
E
Yeah. You like, you like? Because if I'm not mistaken, didn't the Cardinals already had. The Cardinals hired Mike, right?
F
Yep. Mr. Floyd got hired.
E
But so, so you like, you like, you like this Clint Kubia?
F
I mean I love, I love Clint Kubiak to the Raiders, but the whole problem is the players. It's the situation, it's the quarterback. I mean the uncertainty. Obviously you know, Mendoza probably going to be the first one taken. But unk, you need more pieces than just that, especially where Kubiak coming from. It's easy for you to be able to do your job based on where you are because of what you have with your personnel. It makes your job and calling players or even being a head coach now coming to Las Vegas, it makes it very easy. But you're going to need those pieces that make your job easy. That's the only problem. That's the only issue I see. Obviously Mendoza is going to be the first quarterback taken. The Raiders aren't passing on him. What are you going to do with Mac Crosby? Are you going to let Matt Crosby go so you can get some value back from him and put some other pieces around you on offense or maybe on defense? There's so many, there's so many pieces or so many, so many holes that need to be filled in Las Vegas before you can be a team that can compete in that division, let alone in the goddamn league. Huh? It's so many answers that need to be answered. I love the hire, I love the coach that you're getting, but what does he have to work with? That's the only issue.
E
I like it because they're probably gonna have a ish ton of money to spend. The cap is going up 22, $25 million. Ocho, they were probably already under the cap. So you get Mendoza and I don't have to give up. All I have to do is sign them. I don't have to give up draft capital now in free agency, I can plug some things in. Receive. I'm gonna need a receiver. Is a potential that I could trade for A.J. brown. Is there a potential that there's a receiver on the mark? I'm just, I'm just throwing out scenarios.
F
I already told you what receivers going now, and it make the most sense because he's every bit of what a Raider is, but go ahead.
E
Yeah, yeah. And so I, I, I think they're probably gonna have $70 million, $80 million in cap space. The question is, and you, you, you posed a very good question, and we've been talking about it. What do you do with Crosby? Do I trade him and get the draft capital or do I keep him? That's, that's the question.
F
I mean, allow him to go to, Allow him to go somewhere where he can, he can contend. That's, that's what I say.
E
Yeah. Well, I'm sure somebody said Max Crosby to the Ravens for Bateman and in the first rounder, I'm sure, I'm sure the Ravens would jump on that with both feet.
F
That's a, that's a good one.
E
I like that. I think it's going to take more than Bateman on the first rounder to get AJ to get the Max Crosby from the Raiders. Ocho. That's just right. But I, I, like I said, I, I've known Clinton basically his whole life. He used to shag balls for, for when he was, I mean, he couldn't have been no more than in the mid-90s. It couldn't have been no more than 9, 10 maybe. When I left and I came back, he's probably 13, so. And to see, it's always funny to see these kids. Ocho, to see him, to see Christian McCaffrey, to see what he came in because he was a little kid sitting on my, sitting on my lap at, at the super bowl, Super Bowl, 33 and now to see that he's one of the best players in the NFL to see Clint Kub, to see Kyle Shanahan. We used to hold a cord for his dad. I'm like damn. Well once I'm old and two, it's good, it's good to see. It's good to see those guys and what they've become. That's. That's great. But I, I do, I agree with you. Oo I do think I do like his higher but at the end of the day it comes down to you can have the greatest game ever, but you better have somebody to be able to play in that.
F
That's, that's the issue. That's the only issue. You got to have the right players at the right positions and everything flows smoothly.
E
Cardinals made it official on Sunday announcing they have signed have agreed to a five year contract extension with Mac with Mike LaFleur. LaFleur replaces Jonathan Gannon as the team's new head coach. LaFleur served as the Rams offensive coordinator for the past three seasons while he didn't call plays for head coach Sean Payton. LeFlore dead gang play calling experience as two in two seasons as a Jets offensive core as offensive coordinators. Ocho, you like this?
F
I like. I like it. One issue. Quarterback. What are we doing at the quarterback position? Receivers Marvin Harrison Jr. Can we get him back on track?
E
Mike Wilson. Huh? Mike Wilson.
F
Oh yeah, yeah, Mike Wilson. But listen, he showed up. He showed up and showed up.
E
Okay, okay, okay.
F
Can we get Marvin Harrison Jr. Back to playing like we know he can play? Especially what we saw at Ohio State. Can we get that? Can we get his confidence back? Brother, Wilson is the real deal. He is the real deal. The only issue is what are we going to do at the quarterback position.
E
In Jacobe per second we got Trey McBride also.
F
Oh, he's the best tight end in the game, huh? We can, we can argue that. You can argue he's the best titan in the game.
E
But again who you argue with.
F
But what are we doing at the quarterback position? I'm sure Kyler Murray gone. Jacoby Brissette was a. A good feeling in the sense especially from a statistical standpoint. If you look at his numbers, even though they were losing, I don't know if I.
E
He's my long term.
F
No, he's not your long term solution, but he's something you would love to have in especially if he's one to. To be a veteran, a veteran presence for someone young. If that's, if that's the route you go, right?
E
So, so, so we got the Raiders. That's, that's, that's the only, that's the last job, right? That's the only job that's left. But we think the Raiders are going to get filled by Clint Kubia so all the, the, the head coaching vacancies will be be filled. Oh yeah, and it seems like the odd man out is Matt Nagy because he didn't get one. He didn't get one of those jobs. Foreign.
