And Cuban ended up overruling his fellow executive who love Giannis and traded pick for Lucas Nogarilla and cap space Joe. What's the biggest NBA draft whiff of all time?
Uncle Ocho
Draft whiff? I mean. I would say Jordan, but hell, King with one he got back then you
Joe
weren't taking a little over no big.
Uncle Ocho
Nah, nah. I don't know. You got something in mind?
Joe
Whoever passed on Dane, whoever passed on Steph.
Uncle Ocho
Oh yeah. Hell yeah. You know what? I don't know what it is. You know, when them guys dominating college like that, they don't think it's going to translate because some it don't. Okay, Ocho. But yeah, I just felt like it was kind of destined for, for Steph. He can shoot it whatever reason.
Joe
See, a lot of people said that about, about Trey Young. I said, let's just say for the sake of argument, he don't give you 27. Do you see how he passed? He was averaging double digit assist. So let's just say that comes all the way down to say somewhere between 17 and 22, he's still giving you double six, double digit assist.
Uncle Ocho
I agree.
Joe
I said he could shoot. You could shoot the ball with that kind of range and handle it and get others involved.
Uncle Ocho
That's why you make the big bucks.
Joe
Yeah. Oh, Portland, they passed on. They passed on. They took a Greg Oden. Oh no. Kd.
Uncle Ocho
Yeah.
Joe
Ooh, Portland.
Uncle Ocho
But Greg Oden was a beast.
Joe
He was in college, he was kd.
Uncle Ocho
KD was special. But Greg Oden, I could see how I could see how that could. You know, you'll probably think about that one too. You know, don't think about what KD's done in the pros, but in college he was special. But Greg Odin was special too.
Wilmer Valderrama
But I remember watching Greg Odin at Ohio State. He was nice.
Joe
Damn. They took Sam Bowie over Jordan at Portland. But they said because they had Clyde. If. I think. If I'm not mistaken, they already had Clyde. I think they had the. I think.
Uncle Ocho
Yeah, they already had Clyde. Yeah, but you. We. We had to make that work. You couldn't make that work. Yeah.
Joe
What. So.
Uncle Ocho
I don't know, man.
Joe
I mean, Luca with. Luca with what? What did Luca go DeAndre? Trey Young was in that draft. Luca was in that draft?
Uncle Ocho
Yeah, the Hogs drafted Luca and then traded him for Trey. Did y' all know that? What.
Joe
How do.
Uncle Ocho
The Hogs drafted Luca?
Joe
How do you think that would have been?
Uncle Ocho
You never know, bro.
Joe
Hey, Atlanta love Trey, man. They love ice Trey, man.
Uncle Ocho
What? Hey, this. Look. This. I always be home for Bootsy Chains, all. Hey, he quavo, you name it.
Joe
They love Trey.
Uncle Ocho
Yeah. Yeah. Trey done a lot for the city out here, bro.
Joe
Sacramento just stay effing up. They passed on Luca. They passed on Steph. They passed on Clay. They gonna gay.
Uncle Ocho
Look. They gonna get it right? They gonna get. They gonna get them something special this year, though. All they need is a top five pick. They get a top five pick, Uncle Ocho. Yeah, they gonna get them. They gonna get them, huh?
Wilmer Valderrama
They back in business.
Uncle Ocho
They gonna get. They gonna have a. They gonna have a guy who they can kind of start building around for sure.
Joe
Yeah, the. Well, the. The Hornets traded Kobe for bloody divots.
Uncle Ocho
Yeah, like, Kobe. Woody went like 11, 12, something like that. It may have been, but them high schoolers, you couldn't see that back then.
Joe
The legendary Will Chamberlain owns one less NBA record thanks to Shea Gilgis. SGA broke Wilt record for six decades by scoring at least 20 points in 127 consecutive games. SJ street started November 1st of 2024. He's averaging 32.5 during that game, during that streak. And he's on pace to become the first player to average at least 34 consecutive seasons since Michael Jordan. Joe, this is your sport. How impressive is this?
Uncle Ocho
It's very. It's very impressive. You know, Wilt seems so mythical because we never got a real chance to see. I'm just being real. So when you say somebody has passed Wilt, like, you really gotta take a look at you. Like, hold on. Shawty ain't playing out here. He really getting to it. Like, man, the man 35 tonight, 13 for 18 from the field. Uncle Ocho, he missed but five shots, and it was a big game. They playing against the Boston Celtics. Tatum didn't play tonight, but, man, this is what you get from him, bro. He probably gonna Win his. He probably gonna win MVP again. He gonna win MVP again. Two time mvp. And from everything I've been hearing from him throughout this whole entire season is that he wasn't satisfied with just winning. He didn't really like the fashion and how they won. Uncle Ocho having to go game seven with the Pacers, he didn't appreciate that. He felt they should have got rid of teams a lot early. He didn't appreciate playing against the Nuggets, Game seven, you know. So I think that the OKC Thunder are getting healthy. They getting the leader back to where he's focusing in on this, on this run down the stretch. But boy, he got a mean hill to climb.
Wilmer Valderrama
He nice.
Joe
Luka got 41 through three.
Uncle Ocho
Joe right now, who they play?
Wilmer Valderrama
Hey, on who they playing?
Uncle Ocho
Hey, hey, everybody feeling good, ain't they?
Joe
Look, the one thing we know about Luca, he can put the ball in the basket, dangle. There ain't very many that can put in the back. Like, I mean, hey, he's seven to 13 from the three.
Uncle Ocho
Damn.
Wilmer Valderrama
Hey, he on fire.
Joe
He gonna. He going. He gonna get 50. First of all, I know one record ain't gonna ever fall. Ain't nobody about to average 50. Ain't nobody about to average 44. Ain't nobody about to average the rebound. And ain't nobody about to get 55 rebounds in the game. So that we went straight with that one.
Uncle Ocho
Anybody averaging no 50, fella.
Wilmer Valderrama
Hey, hey, your boy got 19 tonight now, DeAndre 8.
Joe
Yeah, he been rolling.
Uncle Ocho
He been rolling.
Joe
He played well.
Uncle Ocho
You see Braun back?
Joe
Yeah, I think bron got like 14.
Wilmer Valderrama
Yeah, he got 14.
Joe
Yeah. What you think the next record's gonna be? I tell you one record that's not gonna be safe. I don't think. I don't. I don't think Stephen three point record is going to be safe.
Uncle Ocho
Well, you don't.
Wilmer Valderrama
Who. Who you
Joe
con can nipple is way ahead of the pace.
Uncle Ocho
They shooting a lot of three now. Them boys probably about 12, 13.
Joe
Steph like first four or five years. Now there was a stretch where he went like seven, eight years where he was getting them up. But his first couple years, he was. He's probably shooting about 4 or 5 a game now. That's around 8, 9, 10 a game for a stretch.
Uncle Ocho
See them boys shooting double figure. They shooting 11, 12 threes a game.
Joe
Luca got. Think about it. Bam. Shot 22. Yeah, I want, I want Steph to break the record. I want Steph to make 15 threes.
Uncle Ocho
He got to make 15 more.
Joe
No I want to make 15 in a game.
Wilmer Valderrama
In the game.
Joe
15 in the game.
Wilmer Valderrama
Who got the record?
Joe
I think Clay. I think Clay got 14.
Uncle Ocho
Damn. Well, how long? How long? Curry out.
Joe
She they say another 10 days or another 10. 10 days, 10 games, something.
Wilmer Valderrama
What?
Uncle Ocho
What is this? Hamstring.
Joe
No, don't start me the line, Joe.
Uncle Ocho
Damn. E boy moving, man. Hey, it's picking up. It's gonna be go time.
Joe
Thunder beat the Celtics 104 to 102. Wow. The Nuggets rather to beat the San Antonio Spurs 136 to 131. Snapping the spurs five game winning streak. Wimby sat with injury. Nicola Jokic 31 points, 20 rebounds, 12 assists. Jamal Murray 39 points.
Uncle Ocho
Man. Come on, bro. How Luke Cornett gonna be out here 25 minutes and give you a donut playing in place of winning?
Joe
He worried about Magic City.
Uncle Ocho
Yeah, I know, that's what I'm saying. Come on, bro. But damn, we ain't really get to. I need to see women tonight. Cause it's been some teams having Denver number Uncle Ocho.
Wilmer Valderrama
Yeah.
Uncle Ocho
You know, don't get me wrong, Big Joker.
Joe
Joker look, he been see that he gonna get whatever he want to get. Need that. You not stopping that.
Uncle Ocho
This man. This man 30, 20 and 12. Come on, man. But hey, Jamal Murray cooking though.
Joe
Oh yeah.
Uncle Ocho
39. Yeah, they got two guys playing at a real high level, man.
Joe
Yeah. Luke Cornette worried about. Oh, that says the wrong. You ain't. If you not going, why you care? Hey, and the man had. The man had 31 points on 17 shots.
Uncle Ocho
Damn.
Joe
They were 30. They were 36 of 38 from the free throw line. San Antonio was 26 of 32 from the free throw line.
Uncle Ocho
They hey, San Antonio was kicking their butt too.
Joe
They was up. They was that. They was at one point up 20. Stefan Castle had 30. Basel had 18.
Uncle Ocho
I like him.
Joe
D Fox had 27.
Uncle Ocho
Castle had a triple double.
Joe
Yeah. Harrison Barnes had 20. Carter Bryant 10. Dylan Harper 13. They made 19 threes.
Uncle Ocho
They gonna be a problem, boy, they are 19. I'm talking about a real problem. Damn, man.
Joe
Y I I've never seen. This episode is brought to you by Spreaker, the platform responsible for a rapidly spreading condition known as podcast brain. Symptoms include buying microphones you don't need explaining RSS feeds to confused relatives and saying things like, sorry, I can't talk right now, I'm editing audio. If this sounds familiar, you're probably already a podcaster. The good news is Spreaker makes the Whole process simple. You record your show, upload it once, and Spreaker distributes it everywhere. People listen. Apple podcasts, Spotify, and about a dozen apps your cousin swears are the next big thing. Even better, Spreaker helps you monetize your show with ads, meaning your podcast might someday pay for, well, more microphones. Start your show today@spreaker.com spreaker because if you're going to talk to yourself for an hour, you might as well publish it. Hey, I'm Wilmer Valderrama, and this is Freddy Rodriguez. Welcome back to Dos Amigos. Dos Amigos, season two, baby. This time, we're going even deeper into our careers, our lives, our art, and everything in between. Each episode emanates from our very own speakeasy, where we swap stories about the moments that really shaped us on and off camera. What do we invest in right now? What is the immediate advice you give people right now?
Uncle Ocho
Is to value time, to be cognizant
Joe
of time and how important time is,
Uncle Ocho
because once the time is up, it's
Joe
up, and then that's it.
Wilmer Valderrama
And the relationships, collaborations, and even the failures that pushed us to grow. And the common denominator is that we have the same people with us since, like, 30, 40 years ago.
Uncle Ocho
Right.
Wilmer Valderrama
Like, we have a lot of. With the same homies that stuck around. Plus, the door always stays open for
Joe
a third amigo to pull up a chair.
Wilmer Valderrama
Listen to Dos Amigos as part of the Michael Dura podcast network, available on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcast.
Joe
Anything like him. Hey, Un. Can I ask you a question?
Uncle Ocho
Yes.
Wilmer Valderrama
Would you really take Luca over like an Ant man or Jason Tatum?
Joe
I would.
Uncle Ocho
It's your prayer.
Joe
Okay, look, I think the thing is, is that Luca kicks a lot today. Luca was locked in, and we're gonna talk about a little bit. He locked in, caught him a couple of charges, pulled the ball out from the back. Luca Blauer today. But that's scoring, right? He about to have his, I think, his fourth season where he's averaged 30. He's 26. He's 26. Yeah. He gonna put. Yeah, look, he gonna take bad shots. He's very unorthodox. He's gonna take some bad shots. He gonna complain. He gonna shoot a shot, and he
Uncle Ocho
gonna turn a little to the official,
Joe
and he's got room and laid it up on the other end. That's. That's just what it is.
Wilmer Valderrama
Damn.
Joe
But I think the thing is. And I, I. You talk about A guy that's been. He was a First Team All NBA selection for five consecutive years. 5.
Uncle Ocho
Luca the Don.
Joe
Hey, but it's just that if he were to stop complaining, I don't. I don't. I don't need him to sit in the chair, Joe. I don't need him to do that. Just don't get beat on the initial drive. Can you do that? That's all I want you to do. If he's trying to beat you on the initial drive, cut him off, make him pull it back off, or make him give the ball up. That's all I need, Joe. Because if he beats you on the initial drive, help gotta come. If help somebody compromise, somebody else open.
Uncle Ocho
Yeah, well, I'm sorry to tell y'. All.
Joe
That's all I need.
Uncle Ocho
Hey, he a bad boy. He a bad boy. But when it comes to sliding them puppies, he ain't giving you no two slides. He may give you one, and that's a rap after that. Yeah.
Joe
I don't know what got him in the J, though, Joe. I don't know what got him today, but Luca, he was kind of locked in today. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. I think.
Uncle Ocho
I think him knowing LeBron wasn't playing, you know, he know he had to lock in a little more, you know what I mean? Like, you ain't got Braun out there, you know, you gotta be great. You know what I mean? Like, you and Austin gonna have to carry us tonight. I think they knew he knew that from the start.
Joe
Yes.
Uncle Ocho
Yeah, I mean, this is.
Joe
Austin looked really good tonight. He was. He was aggressive. Put the ball on the plank. Put the ball on the floor. Getting to the paint. Lucas. Luca. When Luca making shot. Excuse me, guys. When Lucas making shots like that, you at his. You just hope he missed that, man. Take a one legged shot from 28ft, fall out of bounds, sitting into the next bench. What the hell you gonna do? The other night he kissed. Kiss one off the glass from 29ft. What the hell you gonna do with that? Hey, you look up on him. He can get by you. He's so herky jerky.
Uncle Ocho
Yeah, yeah.
Joe
He's so unorthodox. He ain't. He's not gonna beat you with speed. He's bigger than you think. He's stronger than you think. You looking at his body like, ah, this milk toast. I'm about to cook him. Okay, Cook him. Okay, Cook him.
Uncle Ocho
It don't seem like he's supposed to be making some of the shots he take, but either he took 16, threes tonight, he was five for 16 from the three. He took 25 shots. That boy don't mind shooting that side step, going left to that three. Do it.
Joe
Nope. And on the fast break. Hey, hey, he'll put.
Uncle Ocho
Hey.
Joe
He'll stop and let it go. Hey, but you look, he gonna have a high usage rate. He gonna. Look, the likelihood of him ever shooting 50% is not good because of the shot selection that he takes. He's not taking. You know, I mean, you. You look at him in the shots, you're like, luca, damn. You just gotta accept it.
Uncle Ocho
Yeah.
Joe
You just gotta accept it.
Uncle Ocho
Yeah. Cause you want him to be aggressive. You want him to assert himself. You don't wanna. You can't take that away. Especially when LeBron's not playing you. Even when LeBron is playing, you still want him to be himself. But hey, hey, when you look at them Knicks, man, I told you, hey, this season don't end how it's supposed to end. Your boy Giannis gonna be in New York. I don't know how Bridges played 27 minutes and then scratched Lee. I mean, how they gonna win? They can't win like that.
Joe
He got in power trouble early.
Uncle Ocho
He can't get.
Joe
First of all, he tried to be aggressive with Luca, and Luca's gonna use that against you. He gonna get you on his back, and then he gonna stop, and then you gonna jump and he gonna boot you, bump in from the back. And then guess what you had free throw line. That's the same thing. You. I mean, and I think the thing is, you want to try to get up into Luca. You want to try to be physical with him, because that's the thing.
Uncle Ocho
Be physical with him, try to wear him down.
Joe
You try to take advantage of him. You put him in the pick and roll because he's their weakest defender. If you could say the Lakers have a weak defender, a weak is because they got a lot of weak defenders, but he might be the weakest. So you try to put him in the pick and roll. You try to get physical with him because, you know, they say the same thing about European players. They're not that physical. You know, you get physical with Jokic and you get physical with him, yada, yada, yada. I get all that. And so, you know, and he's probably done cried so much. Things like, man, I'm tired of the joke of crying. I don't want to hear him cry tonight. So let's call some fouls. And he went to the free throw line. Cause remember Joe we talked about it. The other night he went to the free throw line 10 times. The other night he went to the free throw line four times.
Uncle Ocho
Yeah, yeah, he went to the line 10 times. Yeah, but they need him to be like this though. He has to be aggressive because his offense is his defense, fellas, you know what I mean? Like, if that's the case, he completely took Bridges out of the game. He was a non factor, you know what I mean? Yes, he done his job in that, in that part. But they, they gonna need these other guys to step up, man.
Joe
I mean, if you play, if you go against Luca, you got to give them at least half give you. Because if you don't, I mean, he gave you 35, Bridges gave you nothing. So he's plus 35 in that aspect.
Uncle Ocho
Yeah, that's what I'm saying.
Joe
Yeah, yeah. So you got to have him up at, at bare minimum you'd like to play him to a tie. Now the thing is, Joe, and the same thing with, with SGA or any player. Joe, if they get their numbers, let's just say Luca gets 30, 35 and it takes him 30 shots. Joe, I've done my job. Yeah, I've done my job. Yeah. Shay gets 35 and it takes him 28, 29 shots to get it. I've done my job. What I can't do is allow him to get 35 on 16, 17.
Uncle Ocho
There you go, there you go.
Joe
Cause now I know he's being extremely efficient now. He ate them 16 threes that he took. He made 11 of them. Nah, nah, I'm in trouble, right? That's the thing with a score. If you get your numbers and I make, and I make you get those numbers being inefficient. Yeah.
Uncle Ocho
You gotta, hey, you gotta shake his hand.
Joe
Quarterback throw for 300, 350 yards, Ocho, and it taking 57 attempts. I can't do that about that. I just can't let him have 350 on 30 attempts.
Uncle Ocho
Right, right.
Joe
Cause that just means if he got 350 or 30 attempts, Ocho, he probably completed 25 of them.
Wilmer Valderrama
I mean, you know, you know the funny thing about it is depending on who they play, when you, when you, when you play these special players, obviously, like a Shay, like a Luca, like a Joker, like a Wimby. And if you don't have a player that, that has the green light to be able to shoot in volume to match their point total, there has to be something else you can do to be able to stop them.
Joe
Huh?
Wilmer Valderrama
Hey, Joe. Something else to slow them down. But every time we. Every time we come on and we talk about the game of basketball and how difficult it is to slow them down, how difficult it is to contain them, I mean, it's, It's. It's bad. Especially when they only give you. Well, Luca in general, since that's who we talk about. They only give you on one end of the court.
Joe
They only give you someone. Do you realize that Wimby has more blocks than Joker in his career?
Uncle Ocho
How?
Wilmer Valderrama
He just got in the NBA.
Joe
Exactly. That's just going to show you. That's my point. Thank you.
Uncle Ocho
Yeah. Joke ain't blocking no shot.
Joe
No, that's not. That's not his game. His game is, is that I'm gonna punish you so bad.
Uncle Ocho
Yeah.
Joe
So bad on the offensive end, and I'm gonna get my teammates involved so much that you ain't gonna be able to do nothing. And if you don't, like I said, that's why he killed. Look, if you go back and look at his numbers against Gobert, because Gobert can't make him work, he's not gonna give you anything on the other end. So now Joker is just free to do whatever. Whatever he's gonna do. Yeah. 60 point, you know, triple double or whatever he's had.
Wilmer Valderrama
Hey, hold. You home.
Joe
I told you, you got, you got. You gotta make a guy. You gotta make a guy like Jordan. You got to make a guy like Kobe. You've got to make him work on the other end. If you don't, if you let them coast,
Uncle Ocho
gotta make them uncomfortable and.
Joe
And let them use all that energy on the offensive end, you're in trouble. You better make that baby work on the defense. And you got to make him guard somebody.
Uncle Ocho
Yeah. Facts, facts.
Joe
That's why they always took Larry and put him on the week. You take Larry Bird and you put him on the weakest offensive guy. I want you to say that engine. I need you to bust their ass on the other end. That's why I always tip my hat to something like a. Like a Kobe or Jordan or these guys that are offensive guys and says, you know what? I want the defensive challenge as well. Yeah. Because it takes a lot. You got to exert a lot, and everybody can't do that. Now, Jordan didn't have a luxury that he had Scotty, so he could easily, like, you know what?
Uncle Ocho
A.K.
Joe
scotty. And you talk about a guy that's six foot seven, that's have long arms that could slide his feet as well as a smaller player. But everybody don't got that.
Uncle Ocho
You have to want to dominate the game, bro. They wanted to dominate the game. I'm talking about from start to finish. Yes, they wanted to dominate the game. It was no way that you had a chance to win, which is why they picked back then, back in the day, when you look like we always talk about the top four to eight teams in the NBA. Really, probably four or five. They play tough defense, bro. They play extended pressure. They pick you up full, weigh you down like they were doing KD tonight. Picking them up full, wearing him down. That's what they gonna do to you the whole entire game. And hopefully in the fourth quarter, you ain't got enough energy to continue to play at that peak level. You know what I mean? Yep. Yeah.
Joe
The Lakers beat the Knicks 110 to 97. LeBron James was a late scratch. Do a elbow contusion, arthritis in his right. In his left foot. Excuse me, but LA held the number three team on offense to just 47. Excuse me. Under 43 shooting with 19 turnovers, which is 20 points below the Knicks season average. Like I said, OG, excuse me. Mikhail Bridges only gave him zero points, but you look at Rui came in, played really well. He gave him 13 points on three or eight from three. Marcus Smart. Hey, he a defensive guy, but he didn't shoot the ball well today. But you had. Luca had 35, Austin Reeves had 25. And like I said, Joe, you and I were talking about this Luke Canard. Yeah, Luke Canard's been a content. Yeah, because they basically swapped Luke Canard for Gabe Vincent.
Uncle Ocho
There you go.
Joe
Hey, Vincent, look, they got him after he had that great run with Miami. You know, he was a guy that made some three with a three and D guy. But it's. I don't know what it is, but when guys can shoot the ball wherever they are until they come to the Lakers or they team up with LeBron and all of a sudden they forget how to shoot the ball.
Uncle Ocho
Too much pressure. Too much pressure.
Wilmer Valderrama
Different. Over there wearing that jersey.
Joe
Huh?
Wilmer Valderrama
Over there wearing that. That purple and gold, huh?
Uncle Ocho
Hey, big city bright lights, man. It's a little different that. Hey. Oh, you know, you know what's going on.
Joe
Expectations. The number one kill, the number one killer is expectations. We've seen. We've seen guys with nothing expected. We've seen guys when nothing was expected or teams when nothing is expected of them, and they. Whoa. And then the next year, when they have those expectations, what they do. Because now we have expectations where we didn't have that last year. You have expectations on a player where we didn't have that last year. So let's see now what they. Now that they know what you can do, they know who you are, they know what type of team you are.
Wilmer Valderrama
Can you still do it again?
Uncle Ocho
Yeah, that's. That's. That's the hard part, man. You have to. You have to be hungry for success to do that, bro. Like to want to do it over and over.
Joe
I thought they did a great job of. They didn't turn. They only had 13 turnovers. The Lakers. Luca had almost half of those. Yeah, but he's. He. Look, he has a high usage rates. The ball's gonna be in his hand. When you have the ball that much, it's hard for you not to turn it over in an abundance. It just is. Most guys that lead in usage gonna be up there in. In turnovers. Just the way we go back and look at guys that's leading usage and see their turnovers, where they rate. Yeah, but this was a big way. They was. This was a big win for them. They. They needed it.
Uncle Ocho
Yeah, it was. It was a huge game, too.
Joe
Huge game.
Uncle Ocho
Yeah, they. Hey, they. I'm telling y', all, man, if the Knicks don't do what they supposed to do this year, your boy. That's where your boy gonna be at. Watch. Watch what I tell you.
Wilmer Valderrama
Young boy from Greece.
Uncle Ocho
Yeah.
Joe
Greek did that this.
Wilmer Valderrama
This season, huh?
Joe
Well, he. Well, you talking about. Well, hold on. He talking about he don't want no ball. Dominic R. What do you think, brother? They gonna trade Brunson?
Uncle Ocho
Hey, listen, he go, hey, look, he gonna have to deal with this. You're gonna have to get with it because we. We got a plan now. Yeah. Ain't nobody trying to hear all that, man.
Joe
But if you think about it, with the exception of maybe San Antonio or for you, every. All the really good teams got their ball dominant.
Uncle Ocho
That's what I'm saying.
Joe
They got the ball with okc. Who got. Who got who. Who has the ball with the Lakers? Who have. I mean, I don't think Boston's gonna break up their team. Boston swings the ball. They're not swinging. Cade has the ball. So I'm just trying to figure out where he think he gonna go.
Wilmer Valderrama
And somebody as great as. As the Greek freak is right. You don't think he can adapt to a different situation where you don't have to touch the ball all the time? Not as great as you are.
Joe
That's not who. That's how he That's. No, that's not who he is. He's not kd. His.
Uncle Ocho
His numbers won't be as gaudy as they are now. It won't be 30 and 15.
Joe
Nope.
Uncle Ocho
He might have to take it down. Uncle Ocho be take it down about 20, 24, 25, and 12 or something, I'm saying. And be able to win the championship.
Joe
Yes.
Uncle Ocho
Man, what you doing over there? What y' all doing in Milwaukee over there? Y' all ain't got nothing going.
Joe
True.
Uncle Ocho
You ain't got nothing going. Would you.
Wilmer Valderrama
So I'm just saying, hypothetically speaking, if he is to go to the Knicks, so that means basically, if he does bring the ball up, I mean. Nah, that. That don't make no sense.
Uncle Ocho
He would have times. Ocho.
Joe
I'm not.
Uncle Ocho
I'm not saying they gonna take the ball out of his hands, but it just probably won't be as much. Yeah, we. We got options.
Joe
Yannis gotta have a high usage rate. Look at Giannis's usage rate. He got to be top five.
Uncle Ocho
Some good games today, man.
Joe
I. I think the thing is, all things being equal, Joe, Giannis really prefers. Because Giannis knows he's gonna be looked at differently if he leaves now. Because we look at all the guys, what do we. What do we commend Jordan for? He won six championships in one spot. What did Kobe do? Five championships in one spot. Tim Duncan, one spot. Larry Bird, Magic Johnson, one spot. Steph Curry, one spot. What do we criticize? LeBron, KD.
Wilmer Valderrama
But hold on.
Joe
Giannis knows what comes.
Wilmer Valderrama
He. Hold on, Joe. But look at the team.
Joe
Look at.
Wilmer Valderrama
Look at all the players you named that done it in one spot. Look at the teams that were built around those said players that you just mentioned. The teams where LeBron is played for, did they have anything that matches up or were even equivalent to the other four on the team that they played?
Joe
About that, Ocho, people don't care about that. No, they. I. We do. Joe do basketball. A lot of basketball people does. If you're not trying to paint a narrative, because what they say, if you. Is great. If you're the goat, you should be able to win a championship regardless of who you play with. That's tough.
Wilmer Valderrama
You know that other four, Joe, you know that supporting cast matter. That's. That's in any sport,
Uncle Ocho
man.
Joe
Teams. See, the thing is, as long as the team control. What a team traded him. So now the team traded you. That's. That's okay. But if I request to go to a team because the team Isn't good enough. Or the team trades me because they want to bring a player in to try to win.
Wilmer Valderrama
Right.
Joe
Now, I want to go somewhere because you not bringing players in to try to win, and I want to go somewhere. You use that against me.
Uncle Ocho
Yeah, Yeah. I just don't. I don't want to see a situation where Giannis gets stuck in a situation to where he's playing meaningless basketball.
Joe
Ain't nobody doing that. That's what I'm saying.
Uncle Ocho
That's what I'm saying. Like, I know he's been there his whole entire career, and he probably don't want to uproot and move to. But this is a different era, Unc. This ain't. This ain't. You know what I mean?
Joe
It's not the 80s and 90s.
Uncle Ocho
No, this ain't that.
Joe
Like, these guys, they caught KG in that situation. KG came into the 90s and guys were loyal, didn't want to leave until they're on their last. Last legs. And KG probably stayed four years too long in Minnesota. KG was supposed to be and got up out of there, but KG wanted to be loyal to the soil. Yeah.
Uncle Ocho
And he'll tell you he probably wish he would have left early. He could have had him a couple championships.
Joe
Absolutely.
Uncle Ocho
Yeah. So it's like, I know Giannis got one and he wanted to stick around in Milwaukee. He's saying all the right things, but wouldn't it.
Wilmer Valderrama
Wouldn't Dame Litter also be an example of the same thing? Stand somewhere.
Joe
Yeah.
Wilmer Valderrama
A little bit too long because you want to be loyal.
Joe
Yes.
Uncle Ocho
Yeah.
Joe
But you see, now we put in so much because it's the ring or nothing. See, it used to be. It was. It wasn't like that. Right. But this ring culture now, because fans say, well, there have been some great players that don't have rings, and you have second and third and fourth options that have rings, and they got people saying they're better than a one option that doesn't have rings.
Uncle Ocho
Right.
Joe
There are some guys that got rings, and people actually think they're better than Charles Barkley, they're better than Karl Malone. And you're high.
Uncle Ocho
Yeah. They tripping.
Joe
You're high.
Uncle Ocho
Yeah.
Joe
But because people have placed so much value on rings. Me, I'm. I'm an itest guy. Yeah. Rings. Now, if I'm factoring in Joe, if I'm saying Est greatest, I think you have to bring rings into the occasion. And even though I understand that this is a team game, I factor in all that. I factor in regular season MVPs, final. MVPs, all NBA, all defensive, all that. Points, rebounds. I bring all that into the equation because I think you have to when you're saying greatest. But these people, I mean, a lot of people, like, oh, he ain't got no rings. He bad. People like, they, they crap on Charles Barkley. If you actually Chuck. Chuck play. If you actually saw him play, you'll never see another guy six foot four under lead the NBA. And reboundings he did that dominated. Charles Barkley was a power forward at 6 foot 4. And back then, everybody played with a true 5 and a true boy. Please. Yeah, everybody had a big. And they had a big ass power forward to go alongside him. That. So you had Robert Paris at seven foot. And then you had Kevin McEl at 16, you had Ralph Sampson at 74. You had AEM Elijah one at seven foot. Yeah, that's how everybody played. You had Rick Smith and you had them big ass Davis boys in Indiana, everybody played that. Everybody played with a 1, 2, 3, 4, 5. It was no stretch, nothing.
Uncle Ocho
Nah, no, sir.
Joe
And I. Look, I get it. But now, I mean, you got guys. Oh, man, he got a ring. He better. There are a lot of guys, there are a lot of receivers that got rings. So if y' all say so now, Receiver, they got a ring. He better than Randy. He better than Tio.
Uncle Ocho
Okay,
Joe
I'm gonna let y' all say that. I ain't got to call no name, but there have been some receivers that, that's won some Super Bowls and bless them, you, you've been fortunate of a team. I was a part of a team. I ain't winning. I was part of a team that won because I understand that it takes a team to win championships. Boy, let's not fool ourselves now. Let's not fool ourselves. There's some quarterbacks that's won championships and quarterbacks that have it. Yeah, come on now.
Uncle Ocho
Yeah. Yeah.
Joe
But social media has done that because what it's done is that it's allowed everybody to have opinion and have their opinion heard. Yeah. Whereas. And so, so now. Oh, he better, he better, he better. I listen to the Michael Jordan because I saw that pop up and he's like, like, I ain't gonna get a part in this goat conversation. He said, you know why? He said, because I didn't play against those guys in their era and I didn't play against these guys in these era. He said, it's not to take anything. KD, I think KD and LeBron. He said, Kobe, he like Kobe Caught me not in my prime. He called me at the tail end. Yeah, but no. And it's hard. It's hard to compare errors. Cause errors do different things. Some errors they mainly ran the football or. Joe. So how you gonna say a guy. Well, he only caught. Yeah. Liz wan only caught 300 passes, but they only three. I mean three. I mean, I think he had 300 catches for a career. But they might throw the ball 200 times a season. So if you throw the ball 200 times a season, Ocho, how many passes you think they gonna catch? Will you divide it up between four wide receivers and two tight ends?
Wilmer Valderrama
Yeah, you right.
Joe
The spurs beat the Rockets by the score of 145 to 120. The spurs had four players with at least 20 points and put what. Wow. Almost had another. Had what you call them, had night. Dylan Harper had 19. Almost had five players with, with 20 points. Joe, this was a beat down from the beginning. I mean, this was a close game. It was back and forth and then in the third quarter, the Spur, the Spurs just exploded and just, just, just went haywire. Wimby was Wimby, but when you get champagne, he was knocking down the threes like he was knocking them down. Darren Fox was, was sensational up and down the court. And Stephen Castle, you know, we keep talking about guys, you know, yeah, offensively, but he's a damn good two way player. I've watched him over the last like five or six games. He taking the toughest assignment on the opposing end and still giving you what he's giving you offensively. Joe, when you watch the San Antonio spurs, how far do you think they can go when they're playing like this? Can they really come out of the West? Can they win the NBA championship?
Uncle Ocho
Yeah. Look, Uncle Ocho, what they've shown you is that those three times that they beat okc. It was not a fluke, fellas. It was not a fluke, ladies and gentlemen. Listen, this team is deep. They have so many guys that can beat you. But you know what was glaring about this? It was almost as if the Rockets was like two to three steps slower than the spurs tonight. It's like the pace that the spurs was playing at, Uncle Ocho, it's like the Rockets couldn't keep up.
Joe
They can't get.
Uncle Ocho
Look, midway through the third quarter, I seen kd. What we talking about? When they complained to the refs, we
Joe
know we got him. Yep.
Uncle Ocho
I seen KD over there talking to the refs, his tongue hanging out his mouth.
Wilmer Valderrama
Boy.
Uncle Ocho
Hey, they Done ran them boys in the ground, man. Hey, they got a lot. Hey, spurs got a lot of guys who they can throw at you, who don't mind playing defense and off the bounce and create opportunities for, for themselves or others. It's fun to watch, man. And not even to mention Wimby. Oh, my God. I mean, yeah, they destined, Uncle Ocho. They can win it all. Yes, yes.
Joe
They got 57 bench points. You get 57 bench points and your starters play like they play. And Devin Vassell, he didn't have one of his better games. He only had five points. He was 0 of 6 from the floor, 0 of 3 from the three point line. Ocho, you wife, San Antonio look, Wimby, we talk about Wimby, but there's so much more than a Wimby.
Wilmer Valderrama
They look good, huh? I mean, to piggyback off what Joe said, obviously, me watching the game tonight and Joe saying that it looked like the Rockets were two steps behind. It looked just like that. Even though my understanding isn't great as his. I mean, with me not having the knowledge that I do of the game, I mean, it looked like that to me. It seemed like they were lethargic. I'm not sure what was wrong or the fact that the spurs were just two steps ahead of everything that they tried to do. Whether it was in transition, whether it was offensively or whether it was defensively. They played extremely well. I'm not sure any team has the answer for Wemby. I'm not sure what you can do to stop Wemby because he's good from anywhere on the floor, anywhere on the court, he can put the ball on the floor. Hell, mid range, I mean, in the goddamn paint. Joe, I'm not sure what they can. And like Joe did say what they've done to okc. As great as OKC is as a team, even with the depth they have on the bench, they met the spurs, match up really well with them. And I might. I got a question for you and you and Unc. Joe, with the way the spurs are playing, are they the favorite to win the championship this year or is everyone still leaning towards OKC to do so? In the seven games, I mean, in the seven game series, regards to who they have to play or the sport, the favorite.
Uncle Ocho
Well, it's when you see them complete, when you see a complete game, the way they played tonight today, Ocho, it makes you, you know, it makes you put them ahead of a lot of teams. But for me, man, it's the physicality that they play with on the perimeter. Like just being in KD back pocket the whole game, making it tough for him to get to his spots. Pushing, shoving, the whole game picking up full court. All that plays into the victories. Not only that, but the guys that they have, man, Fox, Castle, Harper come. These guys go off the dribble so easily, bro, and get to the basket. If you can't guard, man, you in trouble. I'm sorry.
Joe
You ain't gonna be able to keep
Uncle Ocho
them boys in front of you.
Joe
I think the thing, Joe, when I watch them, you're gonna have to have somebody score, and they're gonna have to keep Wimble away from the basket, because if you let him camp out from the basket, you're not gonna get any layups. He's gonna alter all your shots. And you see guys, they come in and they're very hesitant. Like, damn, I gotta shoot this ball like 12ft in the air in order for me to have a chance to get it up. Yeah, and he'll let you. You think you got him beat. He just spins around and whop. Throw it out of bounds. So the thing is that OKC does have a guy that can play on the perimeter, which is Chet, which can take him away from the basket. But if your big cannot draw him outside of the paint, you're gonna have hell beating him. Oh, yeah, like you said. Now, they do have multiple guys. The thing that I love most about them is that when their starters go to the bench, that second that shock troop come in and they give you the same type of pace, they give you the same type of tempo. Now, obviously, Cornette is not as good as Wimby, but when you come in with Harper and you come in with
Uncle Ocho
Johnson, man, and Brian, I like Brian, too.
Joe
Yes, yes.
Uncle Ocho
He high energy. He can guard. Everybody out there on the floor, he can guard. They play the right way. It's fun to watch them play, bro, because they can beat you in so many ways. But the attack that they have from them guards, man, the way they can get by their man so easily. Ocho, bro, you ain't gonna want to see these.
Wilmer Valderrama
Hey, Uncle Joe, honestly, I mean, based on what we've seen from the spurs so far this season, I think, obviously, if they're healthy, if they remain healthy, especially going into the postseason, I think. I think they got it. They're gonna raise that. They're gonna raise that trophy.
Joe
Now you going.
Uncle Ocho
You gonna put some money on him?
Wilmer Valderrama
Nah, I ain't gonna do that, Joe. I don't want to put money on nothing when I'm not controlling the outcome, Joe. Okay, but I'm just saying if you had to bet, you would do the same though, right?
Uncle Ocho
Oh, it'd be if. Boy, they up there. Ocho I'm talking about, man. It's hard to go against them, I tell you that.
Joe
But if, if, if it's gonna be a, definitely gonna be a matchup. I tell you what I mean, Doak is not, is not very pleased with the way they play defense. They shot 58 from the floor, they shot 52 from the three. You're not beating anybody. I don't give a damn if San Antonio. I don't care if it's the, I don't care if it's, it's a Sacramento. I don't care who it is. You let a team shoot damn near 60 from the floor, over 50 from the 3, you're gonna lose by 20 points.
Uncle Ocho
Hey, Singoon, he can't guard nobody.
Joe
No, no, no, no, no. Hey, he's an offensive guy, he's not a defensive guy.
Uncle Ocho
They put, they put this the, the game so fast. They put up in them pick and rolls and they getting the isolation. They just penetrate kicking or getting by him getting layups. But he having a hard, he's struggling playing at this pace. Yes, he's struggling playing at this pace. Cause Wimby is just, he out there floating around a three point line blocking shots. He's just.
Wilmer Valderrama
Hey, hey, Uncle Joe.
Joe
And Wimby blocks a shot. He Wemby blocked blocking shot. He 100 meter, he sprint.
Wilmer Valderrama
Hey Joe, when you get in a situation like that, that where obviously Sengun is a liability on defense, why not just go small?
Joe
You can't. He's one of you. He's an all star.
Uncle Ocho
Damn. Who you gonna put in there? That's exactly. You play through him, you know what I mean? Like a lot of the offenses ran through him.
Wilmer Valderrama
I mean hold on, he's a liability on defense. Not we, we can't still.
Joe
But he gives you so much offensively if you take, let's see who you gonna put in there defensively you're not gonna put Jeff Green, Phoenix Smith is too small. Isaiah Crawford, Clint Capella, but he gives you nothing offensively. Yeah, Holiday Okogi, Reed shepherd is an offensive guy. So they have a bunch of offensive guys. The problem is, is that Shun Goon is used to getting the ball all the time with the addition of kd. KD got to get some touches. Joe, you remember last year Shun Goon was an all star.
Uncle Ocho
Yeah, he was all.
Joe
Yeah, he was. Some of those touches.
Uncle Ocho
Yeah. I just don't. I think that's a tough cover for him, guarding Wimby. Like, that's a tough cover for Sing, man. That's a tough cover for him.
Joe
Wemby's a tough cover for everybody if you think about it. Look, if they play, Chad is going to be a tough cover for him because Chad can play on the boundary. Obviously, Joker is a tough cover for everybody. There's no answer. So we don't. We exclude Joker. Joker, don't. Don't even talk about him because ain't nobody doing anything with him. The problem that you have when you. When you're. I made Joker pride himself on being a defensive team. If you look at him with the Celtics, hey, we're gonna shut. Yeah, we're gonna shoot threes, but we're gonna play outstanding defense. They don't have guys to play the type of defense that he wants to play.
Uncle Ocho
He got a couple.
Joe
It's really that simple. Yeah, they don't.
Uncle Ocho
Yeah.
Joe
All things being equal, KD is phenomenal offensively, but he's not a defensive guy. Shingoon is not a defensive guy. Now, I like Jabari Smith, but really the only guy they got that's on the defensive end to try to hold it down is Thompson and East.
Uncle Ocho
Yeah.
Joe
And when you got those young guys, you look at what's the average age of San Antonio? 23, 24, maybe 25. Young. They getting up and down, man.
Uncle Ocho
They got some Hoopers, bro.
Joe
They got some straight hoops waves at you. They go every. Every five to six minutes, they come in there with a new set. Look, every. They're top heavy, and most teams are. So don't. Don't think. I'm saying. But when you look at the most of their points, when you get 57 points from your bench and you getting consistent play night in and night out, Dylan Harper was what, Western Conference rookie of the year. And you got Kelvin Johnson coming off your bench. Kelvin Johnson can stop for a lot of teams. Dylan Harper probably should be in the starting lineup. But they say, you know what? We need that energy. We need those points coming off the bench because we know we're going to get from Vesel and we know what we're going to get from Stephen Castle. Now, you getting. You get it, Joe. You can take on a given night, you getting somewhere between 30 and 40 points a night from two guys off the bench.
Uncle Ocho
Yeah, yeah, yeah, you're right. And you know what? It seems as though nobody Has a problem with it on their team neither. You know, they all. They, they. They all vouch for one another. They play hard. They play the right way. You don't see nobody out there forcing nothing. And the game just looks easy, man. It looks easy to them. And defensively, they all sit down in the chair. But when you got Wimby behind you, hell, it ain't got. You know what I mean? Like, yeah, but I'm with you.
Joe
Even if you play the chair game, don't worry about it. If somebody get your chair, don't worry about it. Get back there to Wimby. Wendy got something for you.
Uncle Ocho
Hello. Hello. But you know what, man? Hey, look, Castle. Castle showing me a lot, though. Uncle Ocho.
Joe
Yes.
Uncle Ocho
Hey, hey, listen, I'm talking about, like, oh, oh, oh, like, oh, he gonna be able to.
Joe
I mean, when we talk about all defensive players now, I. Look, Jalen. Jalen Brown has played extremely well. We know what Kawhi Bequai is not what he once was. The injury that's taking his toll. But when we look at this kid here, he's taking the toughest offensive assignment every single night. And you ask him to still give you those 15 to 20 points that he gives you.
Uncle Ocho
Yeah.
Joe
So, hey, hey, man.
Uncle Ocho
Yeah. Young superstar in the making. Obviously, we know he won rookie of the Year, but he showed me, man, that he ready to take that next step. Uncle Ocho. Hey, the spurs scary, bro. They scary, man. Oh, man. Yeah. Nobody wants to see them boys.
Joe
They don't. But I think the thing is, is that they took a page out of okc. You see how well okc, you can tell they genuinely like each other. They genuinely like being around each other.
Uncle Ocho
Yeah.
Joe
It's not like, okay, we get to a city and we scatter like. Like. Like mice. When the lights come on, they like, hey, hey, bro, what you doing? Hey, let's go grab a bite. You. They talk about how they spend time with one another, how they're in the group chat, communicating with one one another. And I can see very similar what the spurs are doing. Yeah, that's how you would look. Most teams that win are close now. They're always going to be a situation. Where else. Sometimes you get outliers where, hey, we win and spite and we don't really care about each other. But I think OKC and the way they play, I think everybody's trying to find. Trying to find that formula because your best player holds this thing together. And Wimby is clearly their best player. But, man, they young and they still got draft picks.
Uncle Ocho
Yeah, yeah.
Joe
And, and, and the thing is that look, most of these guys, Champagne and Wimby Yama. Yeah. You made the trade for Dear and Fox. Deer and Fox said like, I'm, I'm tired of sack, blah, blah, blah, and I want to go elsewhere. And he lands here with Wimby.
Uncle Ocho
He probably the oldest on the team.
Joe
Yes.
Uncle Ocho
So you got all these switch in
Joe
the pick and roll. Yeah, he can get down that joke. Hey, quick as a cat on a marble table, man. Downhill and get to the rim. Hey, he can snatch it back up behind the three point line. He got a crazy head that you think he about to hit. Pop, he's to the rim on you. And now you got Wimby and you got Castle. You got Vassell. They loaded.
Uncle Ocho
Hey, Ojo, man, they're really good. Them boys made a statement.
Wilmer Valderrama
Hold on. They've been making a statement though, Joe.
Uncle Ocho
They've been making, but I'm just saying against, against one of the top teams like Houston in the Western Conference. They just making.
Joe
They the third seed. Houston are.
Uncle Ocho
Yeah, they letting them know they made
Joe
mincemeat out of them.
Uncle Ocho
Yeah, it's levels to this.
Joe
Made mincemeat out of them. They did, they did. They made mincemeat out of them. And like I said, it's going to be very interesting. I want to see it. Hopefully everybody is, is a healthy and nobody has any, you know, significant injuries. I, I, you know, you want to
Uncle Ocho
see them at okc, you want to see them at OKC in the Western Conference final?
Joe
I do, I do.
Uncle Ocho
Boy, it's going to go down.
Wilmer Valderrama
Joe, who you got? Hypothetically speaking, if those, if those two. Listen, beating somebody one game is one thing, but a seven game series? Who you leaning towards, huh?
Joe
Well, they've already beat them three out of four this year.
Uncle Ocho
Yeah, they didn't beat him three out of four.
Wilmer Valderrama
Hold on. That's regular season now. You know, Joe, the playoffs is a different ball game.
Uncle Ocho
I get it, I get it, I get it. I get it. Hey, I've been in that situation. I've been in that situation.
Joe
Listen, go ahead, Joe.
Uncle Ocho
Go ahead. What you gonna say?
Joe
I was gonna say I want to see Castle and Shay.
Uncle Ocho
Yeah.
Joe
Cause that's a matchup.
Uncle Ocho
Yeah, yeah.
Joe
Cause council, hey, council can pick it up now. They're gonna run his ass off a bunch of pigs. They gonna try to keep him in the pig. They gonna try to keep his ass. Run him off screen to pit dial. Hey, they gonna try to keep, keep, keep bumping but he a hound.
Uncle Ocho
I'm here, man. I'm. I know they won the series, the season series of spurs, but I'm probably giving me a little edge to okc. I probably give him done that. Probably give a little edge to OKC right now. Ocho.
Wilmer Valderrama
Okay.
Joe
They might be a year away because you remember OKC was in a very similar situation before, and they ended up getting upset by the Mavericks.
Uncle Ocho
Yeah.
Joe
So I can see a very similar situation where, hey, you think, man, they right there and all of a sudden they get upset. But they coming. If you. Hey, if you think you about to have your way with San Antonio, they coming. Yeah, we only gonna get better. I don't know if y' all notice, but women gonna get better.
Uncle Ocho
Hey, he like a cheat code out there, bro. It don't even look.
Joe
Hey, how you take the first shot? You pulling up for 27. At the top. At the top. Hey, hey, Joe.
Wilmer Valderrama
You played the game, Joe. You've been around for a very long time. Someone like Wimby, there's no answer for Jokic. I mean, Joker, you can slow him down. You can only hope to contain him when it comes to Wimby. Is there any way you can stop him? Anything you could do defensively, anything you can do tactically? They're slowing down or just. Do you just have to say, you know what? He's gonna always get his. We need to worry about the other four on the court.
Uncle Ocho
Nah, you gonna have to wear him down. Pick him, catch him early, body to body in the whole way. And then you gotta hope in the third and fourth quarter and second half of the game, you're able to wear him down to where he's not as effective. But Ocho, I mean, man, he can do a little bit of everything out there. I mean, I liked how he took his time and, you know, he started to play making. Just make. Making the right passes and guys getting wide open.
Joe
Breathe.
Uncle Ocho
Next thing you know, they up 30 points, bro. Yeah, it's like.
Joe
I mean, the thing with Wimby, Joe, you got. You. Like you said, you gotta have somebody that can body. You gotta wear him down.
Uncle Ocho
Yeah.
Joe
Because right now he's still in his. His young man, kid body.
Uncle Ocho
Yeah.
Joe
He's not that old. He doesn't have his. His body. Body. So you got to wear him now. You gotta have somebody that can make him work.
Uncle Ocho
Yeah.
Joe
On the other end.
Wilmer Valderrama
And.
Joe
And. And you gotta go body with him. Hopefully you can get him in foul trouble. If you don't get him in foul trouble and he gets to play his normal. A lot of a minute, which is about 30. Play about somewhere like 30, maybe 33, 34 minutes. If you let him pay his normal allotment of minutes, that means he's not in file trouble. And he's gonna be down there. He's gonna be there down the stretch.
Uncle Ocho
Oh, yeah, yeah.
Joe
And he's gonna make it very difficult because all layups, I'm resending, I send return to sender.
Uncle Ocho
Dude. Hello. Hello. Yeah, you.
Joe
I'm throwing your issue out of it. I don't like what you say, so I'm gonna send it back in 30 days.
Uncle Ocho
Yeah, man, they gonna be, they gonna be a tough matchup for anybody though in the postseason. Fellas, I don't care who they play.
Joe
Houston allowed them season most points, 56 in the paint. Think about it. They allowed 56 points in the paint, guys, and they shot 43s. Listen, they made 21 of 40 from the three point line. So you get up 43s and you still get 56 in the. A damn near 60 in the point in the paint.
Uncle Ocho
Oh, them dudes was. Listen, they guards break you down so easy, bro. They in the paint themselves the whole time shooting layups, floaters. It's too much. You take that away now you got Chad Pennington and Vassa out there shooting the lights out, shooting the COVID off the ball. It's like you gotta pick, you gotta pick your poison.
Joe
Kelton Johnson come in. Just pulling.
Uncle Ocho
Well, they look good, man.
Joe
Hey, I don't know why, but hell, every time Kelton Johnson and Champagne shoot the three I like that's gonna go in, they got me thinking they damn step. Hey, listen.
Uncle Ocho
Cause it don't be nobody two, three feet from him. You know what I'm saying? Cause Wimby, he take the double team, triple team, and he just picking you apart. Them guys breaking people down, picking you apart. It's gonna be tough to beat them, bro.
Joe
The question is. Look, I think the, the problem that, that the Rockets really have. They needed a point guard. Without Van Fleet, they can't go anywhere.
Uncle Ocho
Yeah, it's totally.
Joe
I like Amin Thompson. I think he's a phenomenal player. He's a great two way player, but without a true point guard, they're not going nowhere.
Uncle Ocho
Yeah, I agree. It was glaring. It was glaring today too. They needed Friva and Fleet. They need somebody who can kind of get everything together. Yeah, yes. Get them together. You know, when things get a little crazy, you got to need somebody who can calm everybody down and make sure we get a Great shot, but it was held to skeleton a lot of times out there, man.
Joe
They were my thing is, Joe O. Joe, you need a point guard. Y' all mean to tell me that that CP got that kind of baggage? Don't nobody want him? He can't help nobody in this situation. I ain't saying you gotta sign him for the next five years, but he can't help somebody on a playoff run.
Uncle Ocho
Hey, ain't nobody picked him. I don't. He probably wasn't getting. What? He probably wasn't getting them phone calls. Uncle Ocho just.
Joe
Oh, he wasn't. But I'm like, well, damn, I understand. It's not a sub zero. It's a little ice chest. But damn, it gonna keep the men cool, right? Hey, you know, baby, back in the day, Joe, you know, we had a ice chest. We throw the ice and put the meat on top of that. The refrigerator going out.
Uncle Ocho
Hey, yeah. Hey, wait.
Joe
Back then, ice, I think ice was like 50 cent a bag or something like that. Get you about three or four bags and put that ice and put that beetle that meter in the ice chest.
Uncle Ocho
Hey, listen, you know, as you age, you get up in them 40s and you under six two, you know, it's tough to play. It's tough to continue to play. Uncle Ocho. Yeah.
Joe
Them keep running.
Uncle Ocho
Yeah. Like, you gonna have to be up there 6, 7, 6, 8, 6, 9. Be able to play in your 40s to where you can still control the game a little bit. You know what I mean?
Joe
Nah. Yeah, yeah. Joe, you make a very good point. As you get older, the smaller you are, the harder it is for you to control the game. See, LeBron can control the game because he's six' nine.
Uncle Ocho
Yeah.
Joe
Luca still will be able to control a game because he's 6, 7, 6, 8.
Uncle Ocho
Yeah.
Joe
Joe Kitch will be able to control the game because he's seven foot. Yeah, but when. When you lose foot speed and you're six feet tall and these young boys, hey, these young kids now, man, they got back. They got jet packs on.
Uncle Ocho
You hear me?
Joe
They're not walking the ball up. That old Joe. You remember back in it when you first got in the league, guys would walk the ball up. They pushing this ish. They get that ball.
Uncle Ocho
Listen, on May Bassett, I seen the spurs catch a fast break, and they just got scored on. They scored right before Houston can even get back. Like, I'm. Like, the game is played at such a high pace, bro. It's like even watching it, you be. So. You be like, come on, man. They could have got a better shot than that because it's just come down.
Joe
Boom, boom.
Uncle Ocho
Pass three. Three. Layup, floater. You know what I mean? It's just the game's so different now, bro. And that's what I'm talking about. Houston seemed like they was like two, three steps slower than the spurs tonight.
Joe
Houston want to play at a half court set because they got a tremendous half court player in Kevin Durant. They got Shangun. They can put you in the pick and roll. He can roll, he can pop. Kd. You know what KD is. But these young teams, they not really trying to play half court.
Uncle Ocho
Yeah, having track shoes on.
Joe
Hey, yeah, you want to keep up with us? Don't bring your team. Don't bring your work boots. Bring your track shoes. We run it. We run it. Oh, yo, I know you see you ain't doing the word you from, baby, you a handle. I had steel toe boots, Joe. I don't know. I know your grandfather, your dad probably had steel toes. Yeah, you had them steel toe boots, them bro games, you know, you put in a. If you had steel toe boots, you know damn well you put in a hard day.
Wilmer Valderrama
Hold on. Why you doing me like that?
Joe
You your unc, you had no. Damn.
Wilmer Valderrama
I used to work on the docks at the Port of Miami. Down here, I had to wear.
Joe
Still.
Wilmer Valderrama
Still. I was a longshoreman.
Uncle Ocho
What you. What you were doing on the dock?
Wilmer Valderrama
I was a longshoreman. That at the Port of Miami.
Joe
You heard me, Joe.
Uncle Ocho
So you. Everything that come in, you get. You have to.
Wilmer Valderrama
All the containers, man, off them ships and them lows come in, Joe. Hey, I work in the crane, Joe. No, I'm telling you, Joe, I'm the longshoreman. Ask about me, Joe. Yeah, I have still. You got to wear steel toe boots, Joe.
Uncle Ocho
Hey, hey. My grandfather worked on the railroad. He always was still toe.
Wilmer Valderrama
Hey, hey, I had my steel toe boots and I had my overalls, Joe.
Joe
Yeah, no lie, but back to. Back to what we said, working. You, you know damn well you saw somebody with some steel toe boots, and this is when. You know when the COVID has started to roll off the front of them and you could actually see the steel.
Uncle Ocho
Yeah, yeah.
Joe
That about your head. Yeah.
Uncle Ocho
That boy working. Yeah, he working. He working.
Joe
He don't put some work in, man,
Uncle Ocho
listen, she talking about.
Joe
Hey, but the spurs, they beat the Rockets. Stay close. They're still the number two seed thanks to a 145, 120 victory over the Houston, Texas. The spurs place four guys with dub in double with 20 plus points and allowed. And Houston allowed a season most 56 points in the paint. Well, Houston, you're gonna lose a lot of games. If you let a team shoot 58 from the floor and 52 from the three, you lose it.
Uncle Ocho
Yeah, you ain't beat nobody with them no more. 145 points.
Joe
Nicola Jokic. Who said Nicola is. Nicola Jokic says he's glad he's retired. He's retiring soon before Wemby takes over the NBA. He's changing basketball. I'm glad that I'll probably retire before women hold the entire league in a chokehold. Hey, never seen anything like it.
Wilmer Valderrama
So.
Joe
So you've never seen a guy that tall, that skill that can put the ball on the floor, can shoot the ball from three let Kevin and Grant can shoot it. But he, that man is like five, six inches taller than kd. Yeah. And on the defensive end it's like somebody. Joe, it's like you holding up two broomsticks in a lane.
Uncle Ocho
Yeah.
Joe
You know it is.
Wilmer Valderrama
Hey, hey, hey, Uncle Joe. Hey, shouldn't Wimby is basically, should be the face of the NBA then, huh? Or the fact that he doesn't have that charisma personality like Anthony Edwards. Would he not be the first choice for it? Being that he's probably going to be the one to dominate the NBA for the next 10, what, 15 years depending on how long he decides to play.
Uncle Ocho
Well, I think globally, you know, he puts a, he brings in a great brand because that's where the NBA wants to go.
Joe
Yep.
Uncle Ocho
You know, it's gonna be games over and you know, during the season the guy's gonna be playing games over there in Paris and stuff like that. So it only helps the game if you ask me, man. But to be the face of the NBA, Ocho, he got a chance, bro. If he, would they, if he win the championship for sure.
Joe
It's just hard. I mean things are going to change. It's different now because you talk about an American sport and a foreign born player being the face of an American sport.
Uncle Ocho
Yeah.
Joe
It's not like baseball because baseball for the most part has always had Latin players. They've always had, you know, they've always had Korean and the Japanese started coming over when you had Hideki Nomo and Matt started coming up. But they've already, They've always had Latin players. Yeah, always, always. It's different. Baseball has always been a, a, a, a universal, a world game. Basketball just became that say the last 30 plus years.
Uncle Ocho
Yeah.
Joe
Once the. They sent the. The NBA to the Olympics in 92. That's what everybody. That's when the Dirks. And that's when everybody's like, well, damn, that's what I want to do. That's what I want to be.
Uncle Ocho
Right.
Joe
And so now, and because if you really think about it, the top five, six, seven players are foreign born. The Canadians, they're Serb, they're Slovenian, they're Greek, they're French, they're not American. You got to go far. I mean, nobody's taking. You're not taking not one American player over Luca, you're not taking one over Jokic, you're not taking one over Shay, you're not taking one over Greek free. You're not. You're not. You take your best way, you take Jason Tatum, you take whoever you say is your best American player, and I guarantee you, you're not taking them over Jokic, Giannis, Luca, Shea, you're not. And I'm not so sure you're taking even Wimby in his third year. I'm not sure you're taking one over Wimby. So that's five right there.
Uncle Ocho
Yeah, yeah.
Joe
The world is not as deep as America, but it's definitely okay. You got a couple of in Greece and you got a couple in Slovenia and Serbia, Canada, X, Y and Z. But as far as just depth, yeah, American.
Uncle Ocho
Got it.
Joe
But those guys grow up playing together like Zion and Ja was on the same AAU team.
Uncle Ocho
Yeah.
Joe
All those fringe kids, they played together their whole life. Growing up.
Uncle Ocho
Yeah, they grew up.
Joe
The Serbs, the Slovenians, they played together their whole life growing up the Greek team. They played together their whole life.
Uncle Ocho
And they started playing pro professional basketball a lot earlier over there overseas Ojo versus over here. You know what I mean? Like, they may be playing pro over there at 13, 14 years old.
Wilmer Valderrama
So you develop a little faster, huh?
Uncle Ocho
Yeah. There you go.
Joe
Luca been playing pro since he was 14.
Uncle Ocho
Yeah.
Date: March 15, 2026
Hosts: Shannon Sharpe ("Unc"), Chad "Ochocinco" Johnson, and Joe (Iso Joe)
This lively episode centers on the momentous NBA milestone set by Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (SGA), who broke a six-decade-old scoring streak record previously held by Wilt Chamberlain. The hosts also bring classic banter and deep basketball insight as they debate the most notorious draft misses in NBA history, analyze the evolution of current superstars like Luka Dončić and Victor Wembanyama (Wemby), and discuss the shifting dynamics between international and American players dominating the league. Vibrant discussion flows about team building, defensive matchups, and why “ring culture” shouldn’t define legacies.
“Sacramento just stay effing up. They passed on Luka. They passed on Steph. They passed on Klay.” — Joe (06:38)
“Wilt seems so mythical because we never got a real chance to see... when you say somebody has passed Wilt, you really gotta take a look.” — Joe (07:59)
“That man [Wemby] is like five, six inches taller than KD—and on the defensive end it’s like you holding up two broomsticks in the lane.” — Joe (65:39)
“Luka... when you look at his body you think ‘ah, I’m about to cook him’—OK, cook him!” — Joe (21:26)
“Ring culture now—because fans say, ‘There are some great players that don’t have rings,’ and you have 2nd and 3rd options that have rings, and people say they’re better than the one option. That’s wild.” — Joe (34:44)
| Timestamp | Speaker | Quote | |---------------|------------------|---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------| | 06:38 | Joe | “Sacramento just stay effing up. They passed on Luka, Steph...they just stay missing.” | | 07:59 | Joe | “When you say somebody passed Wilt, you really gotta take a look… Shai ain’t playing out here.” | | 18:49 | Joe | “Luka kicks a lot today... He gonna take bad shots. He’s gonna complain.” | | 21:26 | Joe | “You looking at his body like, ah, this milk toast. I’m about to cook him. OK, cook him.” | | 33:53 | Joe | “Giannis knows he's gonna be looked at differently if he leaves now...” | | 34:44 | Joe | “Ring culture now… people have placed so much value on rings.” | | 37:10 | Joe | “There are some guys that got rings… people actually think they're better than Charles Barkley.” | | 55:59 | Uncle Ocho | “He [Wemby] like a cheat code out there, bro.” | | 65:03 | Joe | “Nicola Jokic says he’s glad he’s retiring before Wemby holds the entire league in a chokehold.” | | 67:21 | Joe | “You’re not taking not one American player over Luka, Jokic, Shay, Giannis, or Wimby.” |
| Player/Topic | Host Takeaways | |------------------------|------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------| | Luka Dončić | Transcendent, unorthodox, high usage, defense is “only so-so.” | | Shai Gilgeous-Alexander | Mythical scoring streak, likely MVP, admired for his relentless play. | | Victor Wembanyama | Defensive cheat code, likened to “two broomsticks” in the lane, potential to be NBA’s global face. | | Jokic | “Unstoppable, not a shot blocker but punishes you offensively.” | | Spurs | Deepest, most versatile team; “waves” of talent and defensive intensity. | | Draft Misses | Portland (Oden over KD, Bowie over MJ), Atlanta (Luka for Trae), Sacramento’s misses, Kobe trade. | | Legacy/Rings | Rings important but overrated; context and supporting cast matter (Barkley, Malone, Dame, KG). | | International Movement | Non-Americans dominate elite tier; globally the league is changing. |
The episode paints a comprehensive and compelling picture of current NBA realities: legacy re-examined beyond championships, the dominance and potential of international talent, and how a new generation grounded in versatility, pace, and team chemistry—typified by franchises like the Spurs and Thunder—is reshaping the league. SGA, Luka, Wemby, and Jokic are breaking barriers both on the stat sheet and in cultural perceptions of the game’s best. The conversation, full of classic player anecdotes and irreverent humor, is a must-listen for basketball fans or anyone watching the NBA’s latest revolution unfold.
