Please, please drink responsibly and stay safe. Guys, let's jump right into it. Day 7 Brains Brown's training camp is a wrap. Here's the quarterbacks dead on seven on seven and 11, 11 drills. Deshaun Watson took all the first team reps. He went 17 of 20 and seven touchdowns, zero interceptions. Shador Sanders went 11 of 16, two touchdowns, one interception. Dylan Gabriel went four of six, two touchdowns, zero interceptions. And the rookie Green took no snaps. Does DeShawn having a big day, completely flip the strip? Excuse me? The script. Ocho. Does it. Does this change anything in your mind? Do you believe it changed anything in Todd Monkin mind, seeing how well he did in 7 on 7 and 11 on 11 drills?
Ocho
No, I, I don't think so, uncle. And I'll say it before I know a lot of people, we, we love Shador. We want Shador to start. Obviously he finished the season off extremely strong based on the way he played, having commanded the offense. And I'm. I'm sure he would pick up exactly where he left up last year. But again, it comes down to business, Uncle Joe. It comes down to business and the amount of money that they're paying desean Watson. He's going to start regardless. The job is his to lose. Now, a lot of people, they're emotional about it when I talk about this and I say, desean gonna start? No, I love Shador. I do. I wholeheartedly believe if DeSean doesn't play well by maybe week four, maybe week five, before it's too late, you know, them without them being outside the playoff picture, you know, changes will be made. But the job is DeSean Watson to lose.
Joe Johnson
You know, the thing is, Ocho, and I can't say that I disagree. The only thing is about that, and you know how this is, when you start the season, let's just say for the sake of argument, they start the season over five or they start one and four.
Advertisement Voice 5
Yes.
Joe Johnson
In order to get back to 500. Oh, you got to go four and zero. You got to go five and zero just to get back.
Ocho
You right. You right by that. Yeah, you right by that.
Joe Johnson
So now, basically, at that point in time, half your season is gone. You lose two games, you lose two of those three, or you lose three. Excuse me. Two of those five games. Or you lose three of those five games. Now you. You three of eight. What the hell you about to do with three and eight?
Ocho
Yeah.
Joe Johnson
The mere fact tells me with 11 games to go, the likelihood of you running off seven, six straight ain't very good.
Chad Ochocinco
Ain't happening.
Ocho
No, no, but. But if you. If you look at it right, I don't. I don't. Statistically and from a percentage. Percentage standpoint, I don't know exactly what week most quarterbacks have bench when they're not playing well. But I'm just going to say a
Joe Johnson
lot of times, Ocho, it has to. Before you go, Joe, a lot of time it has to do with the buy winners, your bye week. Because guess what? To prepare.
Ocho
Yes.
Joe Johnson
Do I got a home game? Because I want to start him at home in front of a favorable crowd as opposed to starting him on the road in a hostile environment.
Chad Ochocinco
Hey, listen, I think desean, you know, today, he was spinning that thing.
Advertisement Voice 1
He, He.
Chad Ochocinco
He had it going.
Ocho
Yeah.
Chad Ochocinco
But I still think Uncle Ocho, Monk and Ty Monkey, he really don't. He still don't know yet, bro. You know, I. I know this was a Good day for DeSean, but at the same time, I still think he has a lot of faith in Shador. And I think it's going to be a battle, you know, throughout. Throughout preseason. Throughout the preseason games. I don't think we really gonna know who's gonna be the starting quarterback to. Probably right before week one, if you just want me to be 100. Now, I did say DeSean took all the first team reps, you know.
Joe Johnson
Yes, every last one of them.
Chad Ochocinco
Yeah. Yeah. So I. I don't know. I don't know what that's about, but I'm with you. I'm with y'. All. You know, Deshaun makes so much money. That ain't, you know, it's going to be kind of hard to start. Shador have all that sitting on the
Joe Johnson
bench and then 46 million on the bench.
Chad Ochocinco
Yeah. But then think about it at some point. Do you. Is he ever going to get a chance to play if Shadua starts? I don't really think so. So I'm probably with you. I'm probably with y', all, man. I think Watson is probably going to start the season off as a starting quarterback. But it's still a lot of time left, man. You know, we'll see.
Ocho
Yeah, yeah, yeah. Hey, hey, Joe. And obviously it's a lot of time too. And training camp isn't really a tall tale on how you're going to play during the season. In training camp, you're familiar with each other. Everything is scripted. You got players on defense that be cheating. You got players on offense that know exactly in front of them.
Joe Johnson
Yeah, they know what coverage the defense gonna be in and they're gonna run their routes accordingly. They be cheating their ass off.
Chad Ochocinco
Hey, hey, hey. It's the same thing with basketball, man. When we in practice and you playing against the second team and they know all our damn players, we can't work on nothing. Cause they cheating the plays. I already know.
Joe Johnson
Exactly. And I'll be getting mad. I ain't gonna get a live chat. I'll be getting pissed off. I said. But yeah, come game time, you don't know the play, the dude be tearing your ass up.
Ocho
Now all of a sudden, you over
Joe Johnson
here, you got everybody thinking you Deion Sanders. And now when you get on the field, you get plucked like a chicken.
Chad Ochocinco
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Ocho
Hey, you know, you know what? If I was Todd Monkin, obviously, the Cleveland Browns, obviously trying to compete in afc, AFC north, try to get themselves back into the playoff environment and playoff birth in general. If, if I was desean, I'm just saying if I was in his position as a quarterback. I'm wanting to play all the preseason games.
Joe Johnson
Sure.
Ocho
I'm wanting to get me, maybe get me a series in the first one, maybe get two or three series in the second one in that. And I think in that third one, I want to play to the half. I want to get as much live in game reps as possible to get acclimated to the speed of game, to get, to get, get a familiarity with my, with my office of players, whatever it may be. That, that, that's just me because I, I, I enjoyed the preseason, Joe. I, I enjoyed that thing.
Chad Ochocinco
I wanted, I think about it though, in that AFC north uncle Ocho. Yeah. Browns probably got the worst quarterbacks out
Joe Johnson
of all them teams, ain't. Yeah, they do. We need to hold nobody, man.
Advertisement Voice 4
No problem.
Unidentified Guest
They do.
Chad Ochocinco
Hey, so they got a fix, man. They, I, I know it's been a while since they really had a, a, a set in stone starting quarterback. But man, I, I want to see, I ain't going to lie. I want to see the Browns do well. I actually want to see Shador get a shot play well, I mean, because if you think about it, he was the best quarterback coming out in that draft last year. You know, he had the highest passing rating, highest completion percentage, and I just feel like he won no damn fifth round pick, man. That's just me though.
Joe Johnson
No, he definitely, I, I agree. I definitely don't believe he should have been a fifth round pick. But the question is, and Joe, you asked like, okay, DeSean Watson took all the reps. He's 17 or 27 touchdowns, zero interceptions. Should do was 11 of 16, two touchdowns, one reception. Dylan Gabriel, four of six, two touchdowns, zero interceptions. Prior to this, we had saw, we saw the thing where desean Watson had much more in many more interceptions.
Advertisement Voice 1
Yeah.
Joe Johnson
Than Shador. Same thing with Dylan Gabriel. So the question I asked this chat for the, this question is for the women and for the men. Your guy treats you like crap for, say, the last two weeks, is there a gift that he can buy you to make you forget everything that he's done to you over those two weeks? Your old lady treats you bad for two weeks, Is there a gift? Is there something, is there a gesture that she can do? I shouldn't say a gift. I should say a gesture. So it could be a gift or it can be take you out to dinner. It could take you on a trip. Is there a gesture? If after your partner has treated you bad for the last two weeks, is there a gesture, men or women, that your partner could do to make you forget what she had done? Because that is what question that we're asking Todd Monkey. It did his. Did this performance from DeShawn make you forget the previous 8, 9, 10 practices? Ocho Joe, I think yeah, put it like that. Chad, what do you think?
Chad Ochocinco
Nah, I ain't going. I ain't going.
Ocho
You ain't going, you ain't going. Joke.
Chad Ochocinco
Depending on what she doing, what she do, what she you say she treated me bad.
Joe Johnson
Well, the greatest apology is changing behavior, context. I hear what you say, ma say anything. Hello.
Ocho
Yeah, but my eyes tell me something else.
Joe Johnson
I see better than I hear. So I think I think that's the question, Todd. Monkey like, okay, this. He was outstanding. He had it going today. Kind of reminded me of Desean 2020.
Chad Ochocinco
Yeah.
Joe Johnson
We haven't seen that guy in a very long time. Maybe he popped his head out. Maybe he liked Punxsutawney Phil. So I said, oh, damn. Spring right around the corner. Yeah.
Ocho
Hey, can I say. Can I say something real quick, too, Uncle Joe?
Advertisement Voice 4
And.
Ocho
And those in the chat that are listening in order us to see a 2020. DeSean Jackson, right? I mean, excuse me.
Joe Johnson
Yeah.
Ocho
Sean Watson. It's gonna take that supporting cast around them to be on point in everything that they do. They had Jerry, Judy, Boston Concepcion, Isaiah Ford. Everybody has to be accepted. Harold Fanning. Everybody has to be phenomenal. Oh, Bond. Excuse me. I said Isaiah Bond, didn't I? Oh, excuse me. Isaiah Bond. They got to be on point, Joe. A quarterback is only as good as a supporting cast. If we trying to. If we trying to see anything like the desean Watson of old, everybody else around him got to be on point.
Chad Ochocinco
It ain't just the people around him. It's that damn old line, man. What that old line going to look like?
Joe Johnson
It wasn't like. I mean, I think with the exception of Tunsil, I don't think his old line was that good. In Houston, Houston ain't really had no O line on a very. I don't know if Houston's ever had an O line. Cause they've got. They got David. They got a David card, the league gun. They got his ass sacked 76 times the first year, and he was never the same. So we go back and study the Houston Texans. Over the course of their existence, their offensive line has been terrible.
Chad Ochocinco
Hey, and Shadow ain't had no damn offensive line either since he was at Colorado here. He ain't had no damn offensive line.
Joe Johnson
Well, he had no offensive line since he was in high school. Jackson State. What left a lot to be desired. Colorado damn sure left a lot to be desired in Cleveland. Wasn't much better. If anything, it probably was worse. And. Yeah. So I. I think the thing is.
Chad Ochocinco
It's hard.
Joe Johnson
The thing is, is that being around the coaches that I've been around, I've been around the coach, and I think Mike Shanahan, obviously Mike Shanahan and Dan Reeves deserves to be in the hall of Fame based on some of the other coaches that's gotten in.
Chad Ochocinco
Yeah.
Joe Johnson
That being said, it's an eval, an evaluation process every single day. And the thing. The hardest things to do. Oo And Joe, you know this is to keep it here.
Chad Ochocinco
Yep.
Joe Johnson
And not do this. I can't let my emotions do that either. On August 21, what's your plan? I want vengeance. No one does action movies. We got a problem on the ship. Like Jason Smith.

Hello.
Joe Johnson
Because guy goes out there and snakes it up. He throws five interceptions with with 10 incompletions. Ah, this guy can't play. He comes back the next day, Ocho. Now he throws six touchdowns with three incompletions. Oh yeah, this is our starter. You see how Flip has done changed.
Chad Ochocinco
Yeah.
Joe Johnson
And we know sports that thing. Hey, it's gonna be Helter Skelter. But as it's being held to skelter, you need to be even killed. Your process needs to be even killed. So I, I, I don't envy that situation because the expectations, I think Jimmy and D has them who own the Cleveland Browns. I'll, I'll take I've said this before. The Browns have some of the best, most loyal fans because ain't no way in hell I'm sticking around for what they throwing out there on the field for the last three decades. Ain't no way in hell I just say. Excuse me says 1999.
Ocho
Yeah.
Joe Johnson
Ain't no way.
Chad Ochocinco
Yeah. Hey, hey, hey. That's why, that's why you got so many people rooting for Shador, bro. They they just want some type of surgeons for the Browns, bro. They they just want something to cheer for. Hell, you know, I know we talk about we talk about the Browns making it to the playoffs in that division man, it's gonna be tough as all
Joe Johnson
they go 500, huh? You talk about five, you're talking about the playoffs. Joe Dab. Can they go 500?
Unidentified Guest
Can they win?
Joe Johnson
Well, you can't go 500 anymore. Can they be nine and eight?
Chad Ochocinco
I'm saying, you know, there a lot of teams that come into. Come into the season with expectations, talk about whether it's a championship, this, that and the third. Man, come on, man, that's.
Ocho
Hey, Joe, that's not realistic. Joe, if. If you look at the landscape of the NFL, Uncle Joe, to be honest with you, you probably got eight teams. You talk about maybe got eight teams that are constructed, that have realistic chance playoffs, realistic chance of make not only making the playoffs, but hoisting that goddamn Lombardi Trophy. I mean. I mean, being realistic based on, you know, how they're structured, what you have on offense, what you have, you definitely got to have a defense. You definitely got to have a defense. You got to have an adequate offense that can compete week in and week out.
Joe Johnson
I will say this. Expectations leads to disappointment. We've all been there. We done went out. Hey, we don't went out there. Oh, yeah, hey, I don't took it. Got this knife. I brought flowers. I brought flowers before I came. Cuz that's what. Gentlemen, that's what I saw in the movie. That's what they do. Brought me some flowers. Oh, Joe went, got me a nice meal. You know what I'm saying? I'm young. I can stay up late. Hey, let's go to the movie. I get to the door. I had a great time. Oh, I thought I was like. I thought I was gonna get. You want to come in? That's what I was hoping for. Damn, you talking about a kid. I was hoping I was gonna get an inside.
Unidentified Guest
Inside.
Joe Johnson
You see what happened. I had expectations based on what I had done.
Chad Ochocinco
Hello.
Joe Johnson
That it was gonna pay off in something in the end.
Chad Ochocinco
Yeah.
Joe Johnson
People think, oh, we had a great training, camping. Everybody came in and everybody. I don't guarantee you gonna win. You're gonna win a whole bunch of damn games.
Ocho
Yeah. That don't mean nothing, boy. That don't mean. Hey. Another thing that don't mean none is the preseason.
Joe Johnson
Absolutely not.
Ocho
I didn't see. Hey, I didn't see. I didn't see many a team go forward on the preseason and lay it hold on.
Chad Ochocinco
So y' all telling me if a dude come out, let's say he ain't no quarterback, right? But he plays one of the elite positions and you say he come out in the preseason. He ball, you mean. Tell me that ain't gonna put no stain on the coach brain. Like, man, I might need to find some room. Some plans happen.
Joe Johnson
Yes, yes, but see now. Yeah, you see what you've done, Joe? You put expectations on him. You see what you just did, Joe?
Advertisement Voice 1
Yeah.
Joe Johnson
You said that, man. Don't put a stain in your mind that he could do this. Now, you don't put expectations now. We didn't meet that expectation then. What, what we got.
Ocho
Well, hold on. Hey, hold on, Uncle Joe, Joe, you got to think about it now. We talk about preseason, let's say, not a quarterback. Just say, yeah, skill position, right? You got to receive out there. Cutting up in the preseason.
Joe Johnson
Was the guy that did that, that, that.
Ocho
Oh, hey, hey, hey. And he cut a fool during the regular season, too. He was that boy. But this is the thing, Joe. You gotta remember preseason. You're going against two, threes and fours. Now, that's not what you're gonna see on Sunday.
Joe Johnson
1100 guys gonna get cut, Joe.
Chad Ochocinco
Damn.
Joe Johnson
1100 guys gonna get cut. A thousand. My bad. So they're gonna go. They're gonna go from 80 to. They probably got 90 guys in camp at some point in time. You got to whittle that thing down and keep whittling down, wheeling down. You might have had a hundred guys in camp. You want to whittle that thing down and whittle it down. And whittle it down, whittle it down, wheeling it down. With that being said, I think the thing is, is that you hope. Look. Oh, correct me if I'm wrong. I think with the exception of maybe five guys, coaches and staff know who their guys are going to be going into the season. You'll get a big.
Chad Ochocinco
Absolutely.
Joe Johnson
You'll get a Rod Smith, you'll get a Terrell Davis. But for the most part, you have a general idea. Your starters and your backups. Now, some guys, sometimes guys are going to flash is going to a game, be like, oh, I got to give this guy, especially if he does it early, because now I got to give him an extra look, Joe. Yeah, I got to make. Okay, let me see what he's like with John. Let me see what he's like with the number one defense. Let me see what he's like behind the number one punt return team. So now I can. I. I can. I can evaluate him a little better, because if I get him constantly going against twos and threes and going against some guys that potentially might not make the team, I don't know if I'm doing a fair evaluation of him and what he's capable of doing, because I know a lot of the guys that he's making plays against, they're not going to be in the league. So now I got to give him. I got to give him a better look. I got to give him a more extensive look, right? Ocho, you said something earlier that, like, when the guys in camp, they looking at plays, and then you see these guys, and you know, the guy can't tee off on you, but that guy across the field, he could tee off on your ass. And he tried to make a club. He tried to make the club.
Chad Ochocinco
Yeah.
Ocho
Oh, yeah.
Joe Johnson
Oh, yeah. So he.
Unidentified Guest
He.
Joe Johnson
Look, he's looking at you as an opportunity for him to make the club, see? And your own team guys ain't gonna hit you like that. They gonna walk. Walk up. Every once in a while, you get a guy you know, and then you go get a lot of pushing and shoving. It's about. Don't do that the most. Somebody gonna throw the ball and hit you in the head with it and hit you in the back. But across that, when he don't know what you're gonna do and you don't know what he gonna do, yeah, he got something for you.
Ocho
It's a different ball game. You got. You gotta. You gotta play honest. Joe ain't no cheat. Ain't no cheat. Then you got to play honest.
Chad Ochocinco
Hey, I understand that, but the many years that I played in the NBA, it's probably been about three to four times, Uncle Ocho, to where when we invite cats to training camp and you be like, yeah, man, you know, coach might tell you, well, look, buddy, them ain't gonna make the team, but we need some bodies for camp. But it's been a few times, man. I'm talking about about three, four times to where dudes who wasn't supposed to make the team, hell, they made the team just by being relentless, working hard, and just out there doing Reeves, huh?
Joe Johnson
Austin.
Chad Ochocinco
Yeah, he one of them. He one of them, bro. You know what I mean? And I just feel like. I know in football it's probably a little different, obviously, but, man, I've seen guys who. Who weren't supposed to be that, man, just have such a high work ethic to where they just wouldn't take no bro. It's like, if you cut this, man. I remember one time here in Atlanta, man, we had a guy named Ivan Johnson. I don't know if y' all ever heard of him.
Joe Johnson
Was he a forward?
Chad Ochocinco
Yeah, he like a Power 4 on the game, but he probably won, but about 6, 4, 6, 5. Ocho, he played overseas. He got banned from overseas, and he came here to the Atlanta Hawks, bro. He tried out for 10, got a mouthful of goals. Ocho, I'm talking about permanent. Permanent, you hear me? Yeah, man. Yeah, they. They. They didn't think dude was gonna make the team. But when I tell you Ocho to do was so relentless in practice, in training camp, like, it wasn't a way you could get rid of him, bro. I'm like, defensively, he was causing havoc. He. In passing lanes. He. You know what I mean? Just doing any and everything. Like, if you tell a guy like that, no, it's like, damn, bro, that's messed up. So James Harrison, huh?
Joe Johnson
James Harrison got cut like, three, four times.
Chad Ochocinco
Oh, James Harrison did.
Unidentified Guest
Yeah.
Chad Ochocinco
I ain't know that.
Joe Johnson
The Ravens cut him. The Steelers cut him. Steelers cut him again. I think the Ravens cut him again. Steelers cut him again.
Chad Ochocinco
That's why his ass worked so hard.
Joe Johnson
Yep, yep. Alex Caruso, Rod Smith. Yeah. With an undrafted free agent. Johnny Randall was an undrafted free agent. A defensive tackle, weighed 235 pounds, Joe.
Chad Ochocinco
Damn.
Joe Johnson
Had to put weights in his pocket and cut ass every Sunday. Oh, he told their ass up and talked the whole game.
Chad Ochocinco
I love hearing stories like that.
Joe Johnson
Oh, man. Johnny Randall. Hey. Cause Johnny K. Johnny was in my draft.
Ocho
Yeah.
Joe Johnson
Ocho, you talk about. You thought you. This joker talked the whole. I don't even know how he had breath to get off the rock. He talked the whole game.
Chad Ochocinco
Talking trash, huh?
Joe Johnson
Yeah, talking trash.
Ocho
Oh, yeah, yeah. Oh, yeah, big time. I didn't seen it.
Joe Johnson
Oh, I played. I played it. Oh, I played against him in what? I played against him in 90. Played against him in 91. Played against him in 93. Played against him in 96. 99. Oh, my God. Like, damn, bro.
Ocho
Yeah, he would. Night. Hey, hey, Joe, what happened to young Bull with the goat?
Chad Ochocinco
He made the team.
Joe Johnson
What?
Unidentified Guest
You.
Chad Ochocinco
What the hell you mean, what happened? That man made the team, Ocho. He played for the Hawks for, like, two. About two and a half, maybe three years, bro. Yeah.
Joe Johnson
Kurt Warner was an undrafted free agent.
Ocho
Yeah, Kurt. Kurt came from Canada, too.
Joe Johnson
He Arena League. Our born starmers, yo.
Ocho
Arena League. Yeah, but sometimes.
Joe Johnson
Sometimes guys just need an opportunity. Yeah. And sometimes it might not be where you are.
Chad Ochocinco
Yeah.
Joe Johnson
That gives you that opportunity.
Advertisement Voice 1
Right.
Joe Johnson
But you got. I mean, look, you and James, like. Because you look. You look at James. James is 5 11. Yeah, we don't need very many. 5, 11 outside linebackers. Joe, it is a. Hey, he would not take no for an answer.
Chad Ochocinco
That's what you want. Them type of dudes you want on your team.
Joe Johnson
He would not take no for an answer. Yeah, absolutely.
Ocho
Absolutely.
Joe Johnson
And turned himself into a defensive player of the year. One of the great Steelers linebackers. We know Steelers, if they're long for anything, they're low. They're known for linebacker play. Jack Ham to Lambert to Mike Meriwether to Gildan to Peezy, They've had them. Woodley, they got them.
Ocho
Yeah.
Joe Johnson
Andy Russell, you name. They're known for linebackers. And he fit that mold.
Ocho
Intimidating.
Joe Johnson
Oh, yeah.
Ocho
Scary. He's scary.
Joe Johnson
Right in with the 70 Steelers. 70 Steelers. 80 Steelers have been perfect. He'd have been more perfect for the Raiders. Oh, yeah.
Chad Ochocinco
You know, hey, hey, them hard working dudes, bro, they gonna be the talented dude any day, bro. They gonna beat him any day, Uncle Joe.
Joe Johnson
Because you don't have one signature thing that he can rely on. It wasn't like he's running 4 4.
Chad Ochocinco
Yeah.
Joe Johnson
It wasn't like he was 6, 4.
Chad Ochocinco
Yeah.
Joe Johnson
He was undersized. He said I got to be relentless.
Ocho
Yeah.
Joe Johnson
And his leverage, he used his leverage. Cause tackles are high tall. Six, four, six, six four to six, eight.
Chad Ochocinco
Yeah.
Joe Johnson
So guess what? They punch he up underneath you, you gotta basically punch down. And guess what?
Ocho
Somebody as strong as that, hey, once somebody strong and Deebo get up underneath you, you might as well cancel Christmas. It's over, it's a wrap.
Joe Johnson
But, but that's what you have to do though, guys. That's why, I mean, sometimes you like when you have success, Joe, you know, look, you have success in college and people just automatically, well, he was so good in college. Everybody was good in college. That's how they got to the league. The hell yeah. You make it seem like the guys were bums. Everybody was good. And how the guys got to college. Because it was good in high school.
Chad Ochocinco
Yes, sir.
Joe Johnson
But everybody can't make it. There's only. Okay, let's just say for the sake of army, you got 120 guys in college. How many they graduate? They graduate a million. Damn kids, boys, young men. Every year. Okay, of those million, how many going to get an opportunity to play in the NFL? They only got 53 damn spots, right? So what? I just need one. I knew one of the sponsors for me. I don't know about everybody else. I don't need but one. Hello. I don't know about everybody else. I don't know what they think. What they thought process was Ocho, Joe. I don't know what they were thinking.
Chad Ochocinco
Yeah.
Ocho
Yes. Yes, sir.
Joe Johnson
I know what I was thinking.
Chad Ochocinco
Yeah.
Joe Johnson
And I know I wasn't going back to Glenville. That's what I knew.
Chad Ochocinco
Hey, I'm with you on there. Hey.
Ocho
Oh, man.
Joe Johnson
Mike Garoppolo spoke today on the Reals battle at quarterback, and he's been hearing about quarterback battle. One is going to be DeSean Watson, which is amazing because owner Jimmy Haslam said it before. They took a swing and missed that. Desean and made it seem like it was over. Look, he's like, I gotta get Joe. I gotta get something. Joe. I've given this man the most guaranteed money in NFL history. I gave him a contract. So check this out, Joe.
Ocho
Ever.
Joe Johnson
When they signed DeSean, DeShawn had Not already. He had not even started on the guaranteed contract. He had just signed an extension. He hadn't started that yet. Cleveland gave him an extension on top of the extension.
Ocho
Yeah.
Joe Johnson
So he added. He had, like, one. I think he had 141. $141 million. Clearly. Say, you know what? We like you. We really like you. Let's go on and give you another 89 on top of that.
Chad Ochocinco
That's because they have been struggling, bro.
Ocho
Hey, yeah, you gotta understand how long they've been struggling, though, Joe, to be able to do that, to be that desperate for a quarterback that was playing extremely well in Houston, you know, and he was able to do it with. With not very many right pieces around him.
Joe Johnson
He just had, basically.
Ocho
Yeah, he had. He went crazy, Joe. So I understand why the Browns, who've been looking for a quarterback since Bernie Kozar, someone that could, you know, steer that ship and keep him afloat. That's why they. That's why they went at him like that with all that money. And you know what we gonna guarantee
Chad Ochocinco
to make sure they could get him. Man, listen, we gotta keep it 100, Uncle Ocho, it ain't worked out. Hell it ain't.
Ocho
No, it had.
Joe Johnson
No, everybody.
Ocho
It has. It has.
Joe Johnson
Jimmy indeed knows that desean knows that it has not worked out. I guess he said, you know what the likelihood of me remaining here, he said. I mean, I heard him talking the other day. He said, yeah, I'd love to sign another contract with the Cleveland Brown. I don't know if that's going to happen. I think he's thinking, if I play well, I might not sign a contract here. But.
Ocho
Yeah, but I just.
Joe Johnson
What I tell people all the time.
Ocho
Hold on.
Joe Johnson
The team that you play on aren't the only team that play their players.
Chad Ochocinco
Hello?
Joe Johnson
Sometimes. Oh, I don't know, you've seen it. Guys get so caught up, man. Bro, there's 28 other damn teams. They pay money. Yeah, go ahead, Ojo.
Ocho
I got. I got a question too. Let's say, let's say if things don't work out now, I don't mean to be looking ahead, not saying that he's going to have a bad season. I'm not sure what's going to happen, but obviously this very well could be DeSean Watson's last season in Cleveland. What? I. I have a feeling Shadow will take over. Take over for the foreseeable future. And you look at the landscape of the NFL in general and, and teams that still need a quarterback. If Deshaun Watson does play well this year, what teams are out there that would need a quarterback?
Chad Ochocinco
What's playing well though, Ojo?
Ocho
I mean playing well enough to know we gonna take a chance on him because what we got.
Joe Johnson
So, okay, let me see. You say he throws somewhere between 3,500 and 4,000 yards. He has somewhere between say 22 and 30 touchdowns. Yeah. Somebody gonna play him? Yeah, absolutely.
Ocho
But I'm not just saying. But think about, Think about what you just said. That's a no brainer, right? It's a no brainer.
Joe Johnson
But what might be, Ocho, I'll give you a prime example. Look at Tour. They paid tour. And I just read the report that Tua looked like he's gonna be the starter in. In Atlanta.
Ocho
Yeah, I saw that. I saw that too.
Joe Johnson
So it's hard to get the. It's hard to find them, Joe.
Chad Ochocinco
Them quarterback. A good quarterback.
Ocho
Oh yeah, it's hard.
Joe Johnson
Hell, if you're halfway deep.
Ocho
Hey, hey, forget. Forget elite. It's hard to find a good one.
Joe Johnson
So I don't know what you're thinking, Joe. You think? I mean, Garoppolo said that on August 21st. What's your plan? I want the vengeance. No one does action movies. You got a problem on the ship like Jason Statham.

Okay, executive, let's take a look at this. Executive and coaches ranked Shador Sanders 35th out of 35 veteran quarterbacks, per Mike Sandoz, the Athletic One DC said, I sleep like a baby if I got to play him every week. One executive says he's inaccurate on all three levels. I can't tell if he's going to get better, but there's a huge gap between him and a competent, incompetent quarterback play. Damn. Came in at 35. Deshaun came in at 31. How 50 executive and coaches ranked the 35 veteran quarterbacks? And you can see the list right there. My homeboy, no surprise. Number one, Josh Allen. Number two, Matthew Stafford. Number three, Joe Burrow. Number four, Lamar Jackson, Justin Herbert, Dak Prescott, Drake May, Jerry Goff, Jordan Love. And then you got Brock Purdon, Caleb Williams. Tied, tied for number 11. As you can read the list, chat is on the screen right there so you can see the list.
Chad Ochocinco
Hey, when you, when you think about Shadow being last on this list, considering the fact that if he, if he played in eight games last year, Uncle Ocho, he started in seven.
Joe Johnson
Right.
Chad Ochocinco
I think he had some like, what, eight, eight, nine touchdown. But I think he had like 10 picks in those, in those games he played in.
Ocho
Yeah. In that short span.
Chad Ochocinco
Yeah. I think that's why he's, he, he's last on that list and he does have room for improvement. You know what I mean? But it's hard, bro, when you don't get consistent reps. Hell, how you expect for me to come out here and be and put on the show, you know what I mean? But at the same time, this is what we talk about when you talk about being a professional, talking about being ready when your number is called. So I think due to Shadua's rookie year, this is kind of where he's at. But obviously I think he's got better and he just got to show it now, bro. He got to show it. So if I'm, if I'm, if I'm Shador, I ain't really tripping off this list, bro.
Joe Johnson
You know, worse than JJ McCarthy and Pennix. I don't believe that I'm Sorry, I'm sorry. Look, and this, this is, and these execs, you guys have evaluated talent a lot longer than I have. But I'll take, I, I'll. I'll take your door over them too.
Chad Ochocinco
All day long.
Joe Johnson
That's just me.
Chad Ochocinco
All day long.
Joe Johnson
Everybody's entitled to. That's their opinion obviously they get paid a king's ransom to evaluate players on show. All they do is watch tape all the time of said player obviously. Look, hey the top, I mean what we talking about? Anybody that didn't have Patrick Mahomes number one, I don't give a damn if he did come off injury, if he got legs he number one. So I mean what are we doing? OO the guy went five, five Super Bowls in a six year plan. So I don't even know what we discussed it. He won three, he's a three time league, a two time league mvp. He's a three time, you know, super bowl mvp. What we, what we doing here but, and I think Michael Pennix might have a. Joe, your quarterback in Atlanta might have a great career but I would, I told Ocho I was skeptical at the time I said it don't make sense to me. This pick does not make sense to me. If you took covens and you take a quarterback.
Ocho
Hey but hey he, he had played so well Uncle Joe, you just don't want to, you just don't want to leave knowing you need a quarterback. Pennix when he was coming out of college.
Joe Johnson
Oh Joey 24 that good while he's still in college
Ocho
man, I do know how it is.
Joe Johnson
That's why he's still in college.
Ocho
Yes, I know exactly, you know how it go. Hey a lot of people, a lot of listen players staying in college, transferring schools, going to other schools. He had an injury his was it
Joe Johnson
elbow or the shoulder towards acl.
Ocho
Oh yeah, yeah yes, something, something like that. So having to have an estate, you know in school to be able to prove yourself so you can get drafted a little higher which is exactly what happened.
Joe Johnson
Let me ask you a question. If you didn't have to go to all those jucos and you could have played if you could like your freshman year you played balled out, okay? You red shirted, you bought out your fresh red shirt freshman year, you bought out your red shirts red shirt sophomore year. You staying in school or you coming out?
Ocho
Okay, well I'm coming out, right?
Joe Johnson
Why you coming out? Cause you here.
Ocho
Hey, because yeah he was balling. Hey listen. Hey, hey, you dubbed that he was,
Joe Johnson
he was nice Though it was no nil back then.
Chad Ochocinco
Hello.
Joe Johnson
So now you got a whole different argument. We could have a whole different conversation. Ocho, the guy's making three, four, five, six million dollars.
Chad Ochocinco
Okay, fine.
Joe Johnson
Hey, I'm not going to fight you on that. But.
Chad Ochocinco
And you know, Phoenix, Pennix still, since he been, since he been pro, since he been the NFL Uncle Ocho, you know, he's still been kind of bogged down with injuries. So it don't surprise me that Tua.
Advertisement Voice 4
Yes.
Chad Ochocinco
Is gonna start. You know, you hope to see pennies get back to, you know, being a pretty good qb. But Atlanta got, you know, they got problems because they got weapons, man. Atlanta got all the weapons you could want, bro. I'm talking about at every position. Yes. Yeah.
Ocho
Tight end, receiver.
Joe Johnson
Oh, running back, a solid offense.
Ocho
Listen, all two. Hey, hey, all two we got to do is don't turn the ball over. And two is a very, very good quarterback. He's a good system quarterback and a rhythm and timing type quarterback. When, when you hit a, A, when you hit that seventh step, that ball gonna be right there on your face mask. Now he might not have a strong. He gotta be world people might not. Hey, people might not like his deep ball. Yeah, but I'm saying just being an adequate quarterback, just being able to run an offense, he can do that because
Joe Johnson
we've seen that ball on Saturday night to get it there on Sunday.
Chad Ochocinco
That what I'm saying. He talking about two, man. We talked about tour last year. Come on, man. Come on, Joe.
Ocho
Hold on, hold on. Hey, are we forgetting to see. We, we forgetting the season two ahead with, with Reek and the, the back to back season.
Joe Johnson
Yeah, we had 17.99 OJo.
Ocho
Yeah, and the year before that too,
Joe Johnson
man, like 1703 or something.
Ocho
Yeah,
Joe Johnson
I think. Look, let me tell you what. And then I'm gonna let y' all let you, let you let you guys decide. I'm always leery, especially of a quarterback that has an injury history in college.
Ocho
Oh, okay.
Joe Johnson
Because if he's injured in college, Ocho, and they play 10, 11, 12 games.
Ocho
Yeah.
Joe Johnson
The physicality of the NFL now they play 17 games. The likelihood of him avoiding. That's all I'm saying. Go ahead. What you, what you think?
Ocho
Yeah, it's hard. It's hard. Oh, it's hard. I'm. Hey, listen, I'm, I'm with you when you're right most of the time. Listen, if you ain't, if you, if you're limping out of college, limping to the pros you're gonna live it to the pros. It, it is what it is. Some, some people are fortunate. Some people. I mean it just, it just, it, it is what it is. That injury bug, it hits you at the, at the worst times as well and it happens to some players and just, it's just unfortunate the way, the way the body is. I, I hate calling people glass. I hate people call calling people brittle, but you just can't avoid them sometimes,
Chad Ochocinco
man, it's hard when you, when, when I sit here and listen to some of these guys talk and they say they don't talk to, they don't get advice from guys on their team, whether it's coaches or players. Uncle Ocho, I don't know how the hell you play the game, bro, like that. You know what I mean? Like, if you ain't, if you ain't lending the ear and you ain't being a sponge about the game that you playing, bro, it's hard to improve. Yeah, you can work till you blue in the damn face, but man, you got, you, you have to ask for help. You can't be too good to where you feel like you can't ask questions. And that's my only problem, right?
Joe Johnson
I agree. I was not afraid. I was like, I would ask John, what I'm doing, what could I do better, man, I was, I was very fortunate that some of the veteran receivers I had, Duke Jackson, Mark Jackson, had Vance Johnson, Ricky Nat and Michael Young, they really, really helped me. Like, hey man, you know, they, they kept a lot of the defensive guys. It was guys like Steve Atwater and Dennis Smith's like Dennis Mills used to tell me all the time, he's like, hey, like, you could be good. Yeah. I said, you think so, huna? We called him the Big Kahuna. I said, hoona, you think so? He's like, yeah, you're going to be good. Just keep, just keep working, just keep doing. And it was just, it just to hear him, a guy that, that had been around for an extended period of time. He had been a multiple time Pro bowl player, awesome player for the Broncos. He's in the ring of fame. And he's telling this rookie that I'm, that I could, that I'm going to be good, that I can be good if I just keep working because I think I'm working. And I just, you know, I always remember my grandfather say, he said, boy, never mistake habit for hard work. And I was like, I think I'm working hard. And there are a lot of people that think they're working hard, that might not be working hard, or might. Could work hard or might not know how to work. There's one thing to know, you know, to work, and then there's another thing to know how to work, right? But it did something to hear him tell me that I could be good. He thought I could be good if I just kept working. But I. I never had a problem asking no questions.
Chad Ochocinco
No, because, hey, hey, the. The veteran guys on your team, bro, who you should lean on. I take you back to when I was a rookie. I had Tony Batit, Eric Williams. And I'm saying Eric Williams because me and him played the same position, Uncle Ocho.
Joe Johnson
But instead of him, you know, going
Chad Ochocinco
out doing his own thing and leaving me to, bro, he. He landed every day, bro. He was giving me some. Some wisdom and some. Some advice to be effective in the offense to where I could have opportunities to, you know, put my stamp on the game. So it's just little stuff like that, man, that you really appreciate, Especially as a young dude when you come in because you so blind and everything, you so oblivious to things you like.
Joe Johnson
Damn.
Chad Ochocinco
You don't really know how hard. You don't really know how hard you're supposed to work to be a pro coming out of college. You don't know that, man. Right.
Joe Johnson
Cause you so much better than everybody else in college, Joe. So, hey, you getting by on pure athleticism?
Chad Ochocinco
Yeah. Hey, hey, not even just college, Even in high school, like, when you good, when you're so good, bro, and it. It doesn't. You know, you could just wake up out of bed and do your thing, you know, when the game time come versus, it's almost like somebody who's very smart and then somebody who really has to study a lot for a test, apply themselves.
Joe Johnson
Yes, I knew people. Absolutely.
Chad Ochocinco
Yeah, I knew people who didn't have to study for tests in school. Hell, I had to be up all night, Uncle Ocho looking, hey, trying to write stuff on my forearms and have a little chill. You know what I'm saying? Like, it was hard for me, you know, but to some people, man, they come to class so relaxed, chill, hell, make straight A's. I'm like, you know, it's a little different for everybody. You know what I mean?
Joe Johnson
It all depends on the class. That was me, Joe. If it was math class, man, I'd have got everything. I'd have got notes wrote down on my pencil. I'd have got that A. I had the young lady write this down on my pencil. A, B, D, E, A, C. Yeah, yeah, but history and stuff like that. I'm good. Hey, hey, I can do some stuff, but. Yeah, I just. Yeah, this right here, boy, they got some.
Unidentified Guest
Woo.
Chad Ochocinco
Come on, man. Come on, man.
Joe Johnson
They got basically, basically, you see that Ocho, they got. I wouldn't took it down, but they got four tier one guys. They say Mahomes, Allen, Stafford, they're the, the only tier one guys. And then you got a bunch of tier two guys. So basically five through 17 is tier two. But when I tell people that, I'm like, guys, y' all keep on talking about everybody, bro. It's always been. They tried to make it seem like now this is fewer quarterbacks than ever. No, it's not. You had the same number of quarterbacks. There wasn't a whole bunch of Elways, Montana, Van Marino back, back then. They weren't. Right, right. They were not. And just like they tried to elevate people and put them in there. But the only difference I will say now compared to back then is that you had to put multiple, multiple years in Ocho before they gave you a title.
Unidentified Guest
Yes.
Joe Johnson
Now a guy could have one good year, hey, he the best receiver in the league. He the best running back in the league. He the best quarterback in the league. He the best after one year. They used to make, oh, you know this, they used to make you work. You had to go to multiple pro Bowls. You couldn't go to. No. And your first promo you made, look here, you was observant. You listen to everything else because more times than not, guys that were over there with you had gone to 1, 2, 3 or 4 had gone to multiple pro Bowls before you. So you had to. Hey, you had, hey, you weren't coming up there calling no shots. Now a guy had one good season. Oh, that's. He the best I ever seen. Huh? You boy. Hey, you must have been blind up until yesterday.
Ocho
Yeah, it's always all, it's all about, matter of fact, that tier one is all about being consistent. That, that tier one, that those top four, those top five are consistent over and over and over and over and everybody under that has a chance to be consistent. But it all come down to them W's. It could come down to the W's. There's a lot of quarterbacks that's not in that tier one. They got a, a lot of passengers.
Joe Johnson
Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. But I do think based on his history and being a two time league mvp, could easily be a three time mvp. It's hard for me to say, Lamar Jackson's not tier one.
Chad Ochocinco
Man.
Ocho
He is.
Chad Ochocinco
That's what I was gonna say.
Joe Johnson
It's hard for me. Not. I just. It's just hard. Cause I remember the time that used to matter. Because it used to matter. Guys winning an MVP in the regular season. Ocho, because that's. Guess What? That's over a seven, a 16 game season.
Chad Ochocinco
Yes.
Joe Johnson
The Super Bowl MVP. That's one game we've seen guys get one Super Bowl MVP and be out of the league the next year. Tell me the guy that's won the league mvp, that's out of the league in the next year.
Ocho
Yeah. Hey, you know, Joe, I'm sure the discourse, the dialogue and the conversations about Lamar not being tier one, obviously executives, they have their own opinion, but we got eyes. We've watched it over the years.

When you go.
Ocho
When you. When you. When. When a defense. Game plans. And you're playing the Baltimore Ravens, the game plan, to stop one person. You. You have Derek Henry.

Yeah.

You.
Ocho
You want to stop the run. You have Zay Flowers.
Unidentified Guest
Yes.
Ocho
It's very good. But we got to deal with eight. We have to deal with eight. Can we find a way to stop number eight? That's tier one.
Joe Johnson
Yeah. And the thing is, is that, look, they. Everybody try and people get. Oh, I'm telling you, if I'm a defensive coordinator, I'm gonna make him throw that ball from the pocket.
Ocho
Yeah.
Joe Johnson
I'm not letting him get outside. Ocho.
Chad Ochocinco
I'm not talking about Lamar, because now
Joe Johnson
I'm at his mercy.
Ocho
Yeah, he can run it, but hell,
Joe Johnson
or he throw the ball over my damn head. He picked me. No, no, no, no. I wanted to throw because at least when he's in the pocket, I know where he is.
Chad Ochocinco
Yeah.
Ocho
Yeah. And the funny thing about it, though, Uncle Joe, is he's approved. He's improved so much going from the pocket. You know, he's. He choosing as. When he was younger. Younger Lamar, he look at one read it ain't there. I'm gone, man. He going. He breathing left to right and coming back left before he take off with the ball. And he got much. He's got much better as a passer, man. He's gotten much better as a passer. Now he's really a dual threat. Really a dual threat.
Joe Johnson
Y' all do realize they listed 35 quarterbacks. Y' all keep on talking about Lamar Jackson. Yeah. He won mvp. They got no rings. Only five of these guys got rings. Y' all do realize that, right? My homeboy Matthew Stafford, Jalen Hurts, Sam Darnold, and Aaron Rodgers. I. I'm confused. Only a handful of. Probably six of them. Okay. Patrick Mahomes has an mvp. Josh Allen has an mvp. Matthew Stafford has an mvp. Aaron Rodgers has an mvp. So basically the same number of guys that have super bowl rings has MVPs. Y' all think that is cheesy? I. I mean, from a. From a distance, it does. It's not. It's not. And when you get. And this is why I said, once Lamar gets a Super bowl, he goes into a whole different category.
Chad Ochocinco
Yep.
Joe Johnson
Because there's not a whole lot of guys that have multiple. Multiple means what, more than one MVPs. And so now you talking about Joe Montana. Now you talking about Tom Brady, now you talking about Peyton Manning, now you talking about an Aaron Rodgers. And now you talking about a. I'm a homeboy. Now you talking about a Johnny Unanis. You see now that list. To be in that list. I know everybody wants the court. Everybody wants their team wants their quarterback to win. But if everybody won. Ocho. What. What. What's. So what's the significance of winning if everybody won?
Chad Ochocinco
Wouldn't have no significant
Ocho
at all. And that. That's what. Yeah, that's what. That's. That's what makes it so great, too,
Chad Ochocinco
because a lot of times everybody came.
Joe Johnson
Greats won't get it.
Ocho
Yeah.

This episode of Nightcap dives deep into the high-stakes quarterback drama unfolding at the Cleveland Browns' training camp, focusing on Deshaun Watson's standout performance and the intensifying competition with Shedeur Sanders. The trio of Shannon “Unc” Sharpe, Chad “Ochocinco” Johnson, and Joe Johnson break down Watson’s near-perfect camp day, question whether it shifts the competition, and address tough executive rankings that place Sanders at the bottom among starting QBs. They mix classic banter with personal experience, critique NFL decision-making, and provide insight into what makes or breaks a quarterback’s NFL journey.

“The hardest things to do ...is to keep it here (in your head) and not do this (let emotions take over). I can’t let my emotions do that either.”

On the Watson-Sanders battle:
“Deshaun makes so much money. ...It's going to be kind of hard to start Shaduer and have all that sitting on the bench—$46 million on the bench.” — Chad Ochocinco [09:43]
On NFL competition:
“Sometimes guys just need an opportunity. ...And sometimes it might not be where you are that gives you that opportunity.” — Joe Johnson [30:51]
On being overrated/underrated as a draft pick:
“Everybody was good in college. That’s how they got to the league. The hell yeah. You make it seem like the guys were bums. ...But everybody can’t make it.” — Joe Johnson [33:54]
On Lamar Jackson’s tier snub:
“It’s hard for me to say, Lamar Jackson’s not tier one.” — Joe Johnson [55:28]
“When a defense game plans, and you’re playing the Ravens, the game plan is to stop one person...We have to deal with eight. That’s tier one.” — Ocho [56:26]
The conversation blends sharp, playful banter with veteran insight and realism. The hosts switch easily between “straight talk” (“Let’s keep it 100...it ain’t worked out”) and candid storytelling (“He talked the whole game—I don’t even know how he had breath!”). There’s little sugarcoating: performance, not hype, is what matters in the NFL.
This Nightcap episode gives listeners a lively, clear-eyed look at how quarterback battles play out behind the headlines—with raw truth about money, opportunity, pressure from impatient fans, and the limits of preseason “success.” The hosts’ experience brings nuance to conversations about Watson, Sanders, and the Browns. Their consensus is that Watson’s contract and past performance make him the default starter, but Sanders’ opportunity may come sooner than many think—no matter what the preseason rankings say. Meanwhile, real NFL success is about consistent greatness, not just one big training camp performance or a shiny contract.
