Republican Matt Van Epps won the special election in Tennessee's 7th congressional district last night. That was a special election. He won by eight points. That was an eight point win in a district that was plus 22 for President Trump in the general. So to put this into perspective, this was Congressman Mark Green's old seat. He won that seat by over 20 points in 2022 and 2024. In line with the presidential election. He left office to take a job in the private sector. So Matt Van EPPS Winning by 8 versus by over 20. It's still a win, right? A win is a win. But Democrat Afton Bain, after, you know, all of her flaws closed in on this race. So afton Bain got 77% of the vote in Davidson county, where Nashville is, which goes to show that Democrat voters don't care that their candidates hate their city. Andy and I have talked about this on the show quite a bit, but a lot of Nashvillians don't like new Nashville. So they hear these comments by Afton Bain and they're not Necessarily offended by them. They figure, well, she's not talking about, you know, us. She's talking about tourists. She's talking about bachelorette goers, tourist traps like pedal taverns on Broadway. So these comments were probably not much of a deterrent for Nashville natives. And if they're a Democrat, they vote blue no matter who. And a lot of them probably agree with what she was saying anyway. Then you know all the other reasons that Afton went viral? Protesting, being dragged out by cops, being anti police, being pro abortion. She is the Democrat poster child. The only thing that would make her better to the Democrat Party is if she was a queer minority. She didn't check those boxes. Maybe that would have put her across the finish line. But in all seriousness, this race was way closer than it should have been. Democrats see this as a little win. Not a win that really changes anything. It's not going to change the balance of power in the House, but a win in that progressive young candidates like Zoram Hamdani in New York City who run on these democratic socialist agendas, they can give Republicans a little bit of a run for their money in districts that should be very deep red. You know, Zoran winning, winning in New York, that tracks. No one's shocked by that. But afton Bain getting 77% of the vote and David county, that's a lot. Granted, cities are mostly always blue, even in red states. But Afton Bain got too close for comfort, in my opinion. We can obviously take this as a win that we sent Matt Van Epps, the Army vet, to the House of Representatives. But, you know, we can rest on our laurels or we can kind of use this as a wake up call for Republicans that Democratic socialism is on the rise. Young people are listening to those messages and they're resonating with them. And yeah, Gen Z men lean to the right in 2024, but we've got a long road ahead to win over more Gen Z and Gen Alpha women. Women are the problem. But we better, we have to be better messengers than the left. You know, they talk about freebies. Their candidates are selling them all these things and they're buying it. They hear cops are bad, they're buying it. They're hearing abortion on demand, they're buying it. This is what younger Democrats want. Republicans, on the other hand, have logic, statistics, truth on our side. We must keep up this momentum with young people because Afton Bain is not going away. She did an interview just before the polls closed last night. It was pretty much people knew that Matt Van Epps was going to take it home, but here she is on CNN talking about how she's maybe going to run again. Watch race does go to your opponent. Will you call him to concede this evening?
