Welcome to Design youn Strongest year ever, a 26 day special edition of the nonprofit Mastermind podcast. I'm your host, Rukruchi Babbage. I created this series because I believe that how your year ends is determined by what you do now in August, not in November. My work is rooted in the idea that intentional design, not more hustle, is what determines how far your mission can scale. So every day I'll share one very simple but very powerful lesson shift or tool you can use right now to prepare yourself for year end and for each one. If you sign up for the emails that go with these episodes, I've created a worksheet or prompt. You can collect them as you go and have a whole bundle. Finally, if the day's topic hits a nerve, I'll point you towards the most relevant of my implementation toolkits. For the length of this series, I'm offering 26% off all purchases. Let's dive in. Let's talk about your board. And let's be honest, board stuff is rarely neutral. It's either a source of energy or a massive drain. Now, one thing I've learned is that boards may not make or break an organization, but they can create a huge drag effect for the leader when they're out of sync with your organization's growth. Most of the time when you're frustrated with your board, it's not because they're being defiant or mean spirited, although that does happen more often than not. What I hear is that they're a bit lost, they're disengaged, they show up when called. Maybe. At best, today's micro shift is about re engagement as you look ahead to the coming quarters. And it's super simple. You don't actually need to take massive action to make a meaningful shift in your board's engagement. You don't need to replace everyone or completely upend your structures. Your first step in building a board that's better at being a partner is is to get intimately familiar with their why. So I want you to ask yourself, what is one discussion, a single discussion I could have with my board that would help me better understand what excites and inspires them about being on the board. That's the magic. When you know that you know what buttons to push, you know what levers to pull, and equally as important and strategic. When you have this kind of discussion and it can happen in a group or one on one and you find that there's no answer right, that you can't actually connect with their why or connect them with the why? That is a great signal. It might be uncomfortable, but it is a great signal that it is time for that person to not be on the board. So this single question about the single discussion that you could have with your board is actually deceptively powerful. It will both signal where you have people that have untapped excitement and interest that you can leverage and people where the reason they're disengaged is it's time to go. It will help clarify your next steps in re engaging. And that's our point. So in today's email, if you sign up for the emails that go along with this series, I'm actually giving you five concrete examples of of possible discussions that you can have with your board, either as a group or one on one. You can swipe them and literally just plug them into your agenda.
