This is the first official death toll by Venezuelan officials. Cuban Authorities previously said 32 of their personnel were killed in the attack, too. NPR's Carrie Kahn reports.
C
Venezuelan officials are toughening their rhetoric against the US Attack. In announcing the death toll, Venezuela's attorney General Tariq William Saab said that the, quote, war crimes against officers and civilians would be investigated. The hardline Interior Minister Dios Dado Cabello joined pro government marchers in a large boisterous rally in Caracas condemning the kidnapping of Venezuela's rightful leader, while acting President Delsey Rodriguez decried the, quote, terrible military aggression of the US and in an apparent rebuke of President Trump's threat, she stay in line with us demands. Partisan divides over the significance of the January 6th insurrection are on display on this fifth anniversary of the violent attack. Democrats marked the day with events. The Trump administration unveiled a website that insists rioters were peaceful that day, and most Republican lawmakers sidestepped the anniversary. NPR's Sam Greenglass reports.
D
House Democrats heard testimony from a former prosecutor who tried cases against the rioters and a former Capitol Police officer. They also heard from 72 year old Pamela Hemphill of Idaho. She was among those convicted for participating in the riot, but she declined clemency from President Trump and teared up as she addressed the Capitol Police office, also.
E
Testifying, I am truly sorry from the bottom of my heart for being part of the mob that put you and so many officers in danger.

Israel has cleared the final hurdle before starting construction on a settlement project that would effectively cut the west bank in two. The international community overwhelmingly considers settlement construction in the west bank to be illegal and an obstacle to peace in the region. The Wyoming Supreme Court has upheld abortion access in the deep red state. But as Wyoming Public Radio's Hannah Mersbach reports, the battle may not be over.
G
The majority of justices ruled that two 2023 laws banning most medical and procedural abortions violate the state constitution, which gives Wyomingites the right to make their own health care decisions. Jackson Hole OBGYN Jovanina Anthony says this is a big win.
H
You know, I don't have to lie to patients about what they can and can't do. I don't have to send them out of state. I don't have to figure out how to fly them somewhere.
G
But state lawmakers say they'll put a constitutional amendment before voters as early as next fall to make abortion illegal in nearly all cases. Despite the Republican majority's efforts, the practice has remained legal in the state since the US Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade. For NPR News, I'm Hannah Merzbach in Jackson, Wyoming.
