Live from NPR News. In Washington, I'm Louise Schiavone. Police say that the two people shot and wounded by Border Patrol officers in Portland, Oregon, on Thursday have an association with a Venezuelan gang. A public attorney represent one of the men disputes the charge. Alex Zielinski with Oregon Public Broadcasting has the latest.

Portland Police Chief Bob Day said that the two people shot by federal authorities are associated with the Tren de Aragua. The U.S. department of Homeland Security has said that the two are gang members. At a press conference, Day said that the pair were connected to a July shooting in Portland that involved the Venezuelan gang. He could not confirm whether they were suspects. Day said he was hesitant to share these details.

Gathered outside the White House. Reverend Cassandra Gould is with the progressive group Faith in Action, which organized the vigil.
Reverend Holly Jackson (1:50)
We came here today to say that not only is it not lawful, it is ungodly, and we will not continue to take it.
Aleja Herzla McCain (2:00)
The Reverend Holly Jackson, a United Church of Christ leader, said that Good's killing should galvanize Americans in Rene's name and in the name of countless others whose lives and families have been destroyed. We cannot and we will not give up the faith. Leaders demanded that the ICE officer who shot Good be charged and prosecuted. For NPR News, I'm Aleja Hertzler McCain.
