See Terms Live from NPR News. In Washington, I'm Jeanine Herbst. European Union leaders say they will defend international law in their territory. This in response to President Trump's new threats against Denmark, Greenland and countries. Terry Schultz reports the EU's top officials were in Paraguay to sign the bloc's largest ever trade deal with South American governments.
Terry Schultz
EU Council President Antonio Costa was asked to respond to Trump's attempt to impose tariffs on Denmark and those countries which have come to its aid. Costa didn't mention Trump or the US but said he wanted to send a very clear message to the whole world. The European Union will always be very firm in defending international law wherever it may be, he said. And of course, starting within the territory of the EU member states, he says he's coordinating a joint response. The EU is responsible for the trade relationships of all its member states and measures cannot be imposed on countries individually. For NPR News, I'm Terry Schultz.

Trump says he'll impose 10% tariffs on eight European countries which will rise to 25% in June if Denmark doesn't sell Greenland to the United States. A bipartisan effort is underway in the Republican led House to bring contempt charges against Attorney General Pam Bondi over the law ordering the release of the Epstein files. NPR's Claudia Grisales has more.
Claudia Grisales
Kentucky Republican Thomas Massie and California Democrat Ro Khanna say Bondi has not fulfilled the law's demands. Congress approved the Epstein Files Transparency act with near unanimous support in November. Massey and Khanna, who forced the vote that eventually led to the law's passage, said Bondi needs to comply. So far the Justice Department has just released a small fraction of the Epstein files. Massie and Khanna argue the clear refusal to release the remainder of those files is an obstruction of justice. Khanna says among the missing documents are FBI witness interviews that name other Epstein associates. He added, quote, doj is spending more time protecting the Epstein class then the survivors. Virginia swore in its first woman female governor today. BBM News's Jali Khalil has more.
Jali Khalil
Spanberger's presence on the stage was a major departure from the 74 men that had been governors before her.
Virginia Governor
It is the honor of my life to stand before you and take the oath today. The history and the gravity of this moment are not lost on me.
Jali Khalil
Virginia's economy is closely tied with that of the federal government, and tens of thousands of federal workers have lost their jobs recently. Spamberger took note.
Virginia Governor
You are worried about an administration that is gilding buildings while schools crumble.
Jali Khalil
Spamberger comes into office with Democrats in control of the legislature, too. For NPR News, I'm Jad Khalil in Richmond.

You're listening to NPR News from Washington. NASA has rolled out the spaceship it plans to use to send Americans to around the moon. The ship's journey from the vehicle assembly building to launch pad 39B was broadcast live. Amperior's Ilana Weiss has more.
Ilana Weiss
The 11 million pound rocket stack was slowly carted across the Kennedy Space center over the course of several hours, though the journey's only four miles, NASA says the process could take up to half a day. The trek is one of the major stages needed to eventually launch the craft into space, which could happen as early as February. The next step is a wet dress rehearsal, an intensive practice run that stops just short of throttling the craft into the skies. The goal of the mission Artemis is to soon return Americans to the moon for research and observation. Eventually, astronauts hope to make missions to Mars. The lunar orbit is scheduled to last around 10 days and will include three American astronauts and one Canadian. Elana Wise, NPR News.
