Live from NPR News in Washington, I'm Jeanine Herbst. Federal and local leaders are blaming each other for the violence unfolding in Minnesota as protesters face off with immigration officers. The Minneapol mayor is calling the federal agents a, quote, occupying force. NPR's Luke Garrett has more.

U.S. immigration and Customs Enforcement agents surged into Minneapolis in December, sparking protests and unrest. One woman is dead after being shot by an ICE agent. Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem blamed the violence on local leaders.
Kristi Noem (0:52)
The elected leaders and Mayor Fry is allowing that to happen and allowing this kind of violence to happen.
Luke Garrett (0:59)
Noem told CBS her department is willing to work with local leaders going forward. But Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Fry said it's the federal agents who are creating the chaos.
Jacob Fry (1:07)
We are doing everything possible to keep the peace notwithstanding this occupying force that has quite literally invaded our city.
Luke Garrett (1:16)
Fry called on ICE to leave the city and criticized President Trump's threat to send in the military. Luke Garrett, NPR News, Washington.

President Trump is escalating his crusade for the U.S. to acquire Greenland, saying he will impose 10% tariffs on eight European countries until they agree to his plan. NPR's Barbara Sprunt reports. A congressional delegation went to Denmark this weekend trying to turn down the temperature.
Barbara Sprunt (1:42)
Congresswoman Sarah McBride, a Democrat from Delaware, said the Greenlandic delegation told lawmakers how existential this threat feels.
Jacob Fry (1:50)
I think it is easy for people back in the United States to see these headlines and to dismiss it as show as pure saber rattling. But I cannot stress for people enough how serious people in Greenland and Denmark are taking this.
