Live from NPR News, I'm Giles Snyder. Tensions last night at a town hall event hosted by Minnesota Democratic Congresswoman Ilhan Omar. Omari Omar was attacked by a man who used a syringe to spray an unknown liquid in her direction. At the time, she was responding to this month's fatal shootings of two U.S. citizens by federal immigration agents in Minneapolis.

Omar insisted on continuing to speak after security tackled and pinned the man to the floor. A statement from Omar's office says she is okay. The president man is in police custody. He's expected to face an assault charge. Omar is Somalia born American citizen and Minnesota's large Somali community has been a target of President Trump. During a speech in Iowa Tuesday, Trump said Omar does not love the United States. On Capitol Hill, Senate Democrats pledging to block a funding bill for DHS as the clock ticks closer to the government to a partial government shutdown. NPR's Barbara Spont reports on Democratic outrage over the fatal shooting of a second Minneapolis protester by border.

Current funding for many federal agencies runs out after Friday. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer says five of the six funding bills are ready to go and should quickly pass. But he and Senate Democrats say they will not vote for the bill that funds the Department of Homeland Security as is.

But in the wake of ICE's abuses and the administration's recklessness, the Senate must not pass the DHS budget as currently written and must be reworked to rein in and overhaul ice.

NPR and other media outlets have reviewed a government assessment of Saturday's fatal shooting in Minneapolis of 37 year old Alex Preddy. The preliminary review contradicts initial Trump administration claims about the shooting. New York has dug out from nearly a foot of snow. Potential lethal conditions persist. Reporter Steve Kestenbaum says at least 10 people were found dead on the streets of the city over the last few days.
