Live from NPR News in Washington, I'm Dan Ronan. Five year old Liam Kojo Ramos and his father Adrian Kojo Arias are out of ICE detention in Texas. Now back home in Minneapolis, Texas. Texas Public Radio's David Martin Davies reports.

Preschooler Liam Conejo Ramos arrived back in the Minneapolis area Sunday morning. He was released from an immigration detention center south of San Antonio under a federal court order. Representative Joaquin Castro says he accompanied them from the South Texas family residential area. Liam is now back home with his hat and backpack. Castro, a Democrat wrote on social media. A picture of the boy in a floppy bunny ear hat before he was taken by ICE came to represent the immig crackdown in Minnesota. His return follows a sharply worded ruling by San Antonio based federal judge who ordered the government to release the father and son by Tuesday. House Speaker Mike Johnson says he expects a vote on a Senate passed bill in the House to fully fund the federal government by Tuesday. However, he expects there will be a two week window to negotiate the funding for the Department of Homeland Security and reforms Democrats are seeking on Immigration and customs influence. NPR's immigration policy correspondent Jimena Bustillo reports that an agreement is complicated by the Republicans narrow control of the House.

Speaker Mike Johnson is working with a razor thin majority and some Republicans have pushed back on the Senate's demands. Lawmakers could also move quickly to schedule additional hearings. There are already two scheduled where we will see the leadership of ICE and Border Patrol come in and testify before lawmakers the week that this DHS funding bill is on track to expire.

Democrats say they want the ICE reforms after two Minnesota residents were shot and killed by ICE agents last month. Friday the Senate passed by a wide margin the nearly $1.3 trillion federal spending bill. Israeli authorities say preparations are underway to reopen the Gaza main border crossing. Reopening the crossing is a major step in advancing a ceasefire agreement. NPR's Daniel Estrin reports.

The Rafah border crossing has been almost completely sealed since Israeli forces captured it in 2024. Most Palest have not been able to leave or enter Gaza since now. Egyptian authorities, Palestinian security officers and European Union border patrol officers are making final arrangements to reopen the land crossing. The Palestinian committee tasked with taking over Gaza's day to day affairs says Palestinians will begin to leave Gaza Monday. The numbers are expected to be Limited. Only 50 medical patients daily, accompanied by two companions each. Gaza health officials say 20,000 medical patients need to travel abroad for treatments unavailable in Gaza.

And you're listening to NPR News. A bomb cyclone has dumped about a foot of snow in some parts of North Carolina, making the snowfall one of the biggest in years. North Carolina State Patrol says there were at least 750 traffic collisions Saturday. None were fatal. Freezing temperatures have stretched all along the east coast and through the Midwest. Overnight temperatures in Orlando were in the mid-20s, some of the coldest that city has felt in about 90 years. The Grammy Awards will be held tonight in Los Angeles. Kendrick Lamar, Lady Gaga and Bad Bunny are among the top nominated artists. If the Puerto Rican superstar wins, he could make Grammy history. NPR's Isabella Gomez Sarianto reports.

Bad Bunny's nominated for six Grammys this year, including in the three major record of the Year, Song of the Year and Album of the Year. If Bad Bunny wins in any of these categories, it will be the first time a Spanish language song or album takes home the award. The 31 year old is in the middle of a career defining victory lap. Democrat Kristen Menefee easily won a special election Saturday to win a seat in Congress. Menefee will assume the seat that was held by the late Congressman Sylvester Turner, who died nearly 18 months ago. His win narrowly gives the Republicans control of the House. 218 seats.
