Live from NPR News in Washington, I'm Nora Ram. President Trump is calling on Republicans in Congress to, quote, fix U.S. elections. The directive comes days after Trump said he wants to nationalize voting, raising bipartisan alarm. NPR's Luke Garrett reports.

In a social media post, Trump directed the GOP controlled Congress to fight for voter ID requirements, proof of citizenship and a partial ban on mail in voting. Trump said U.S. elections are rigged, stolen, but provided no evidence to support this claim. Democratic Senator Adam Schiff of California criticized Trump's demands and his previous call to nationalize elections. Here's Schiff on April he's basically telling.

Schiff said Congress and the Supreme Court will not rein Trump in and it'll be up to voters in 2026. But not all Democrats criticize Trump's demands. Pennsylvania Senator John Fetterman told Fox News on Sunday voter ID requirements are, quote, not a radical idea. Luke Garrett, NPR News, Washington.

Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky said today he's imposing sanctions on some foreign manufacturers of components for Russian drones and missiles used against Ukraine. NPR's Eleanor Beardseley has more on the story.
NPR Correspondent (Eleanor Beardsley) (1:36)
Producing this weaponry would be impossible without critical foreign components, which the Russians continue to obtain by circumventing sanctions, Zelenskyy wrote on X. He said Ukraine is introducing new sanctions against companies that continue to supply such components, wittingly or unwittingly, as well as against the missile and drone manufacturers. Targets include China, Panama and UAE based companies. Russia strikes Ukraine near every night, though the frequency and intensity has dropped recently, say experts, as its supplies are running low. Experts also say recent missiles shot at Ukraine were produced this year, proof that Russia has gone through much of its original stockpile. Eleanor Beardsley, NPR News, Poltava, Ukraine Today.
