Live from NPR News, I'm Dale Wilman. President Trump is calling on Republicans in Congress to fix U.S. elections. As NPR's Luke Garrett reports, this comes just days after Trump said he wants to nationalize voting, a statement that raised bipartisan alarm.
Luke Garrett
In a social media post, Trump directed the GOP controlled Congress to fight for voter ID requirements, proof of citizenship and a partial ban on mail in voting. Trump said U.S. elections are rigged, stolen, but provided no evidence to support this claim. Democratic Senator Adam Schiff of California criticized Trump's demands and his previous call to nationalize elections. Here's Schiff on ABC News.
Dale Wilman
He's basically telling us he intends to interfere in this upcoming election, schiff said.

Congress and the Supreme Court will not rein Trump in and it'll be up to voters in 2026. But not all Democrats criticize Trump's demands. Pennsylvania Senator John Fetterman told Fox News on Sunday voter ID requirements are not a radical idea. Luke Garrett, NPR News, Washington.

Japan's ruling Liberal Democratic Party scored a landslide victory Sunday in a hastily called snap election. NPR's Anthony Kuhn reports that it's a big payoff for a big gamble by the nation's first female prime minister.
Anthony Kuhn
The LDP has been in power for most of the past seven decades and this appears to be their biggest win ever. Despite having lost two elections in a row. They won a two thirds supermajority in the lower house, allowing them to override vetoes on legislation in the opposition controlled upper house. The key factor in the LDP's win is the popularity of Prime Minister Sanae Takeichi, which has stayed in the 60% range since she took office in October. It helped her party beat all opponents, including a newly formed centrist alliance on the left and smaller populist parties on the right. Takaichi has said she wants to use the mandate to pursue some controversial policies, including tax cuts and increased defense spending. Anthony Kuhn, NPR News, Seoul.

A new poll of six major European countries shows attitudes toward the US have taken a nosedive over the last decade. Terry Schultz reports. The highest unfavorable rating of the US is in Denmark.
Terry Schultz
The international polling company YouGov says the view of the US in most of Western Europe is the lowest seen in the decade. It's been tracking. A survey conducted last month in Britain, Denmark, France, Germany, Italy and Spain showed the impact of the Greenland crisis on European attitudes, with unfavorability spiking in all of them since last November. The figure was the highest In Denmark, with 84% of citizens holding a negative view of the U.S. a separate question asking whether the U.S. should be seen as an ally or a threat also showed the most negativity in Denmark, with just over a quarter viewing the US As a friend. The highest number of respondents viewing the U.S. as an ally was in France at 53%. For NPR News, I'm Terry Schultz in.

Brussels, and you're listening to NPR News. Using a stifling defense, the Seattle Seahawks won its second Super Bowl Sunday night in Santa Clara, California, 29 13. Sam Darnold tossed the touchdown pass to A.J. barner, Kenneth Walker III ran for 135 yards, and Jason Meyer set a Super bowl record by hitting all five of his field goals in the game that featured the New England Patriots. American skier Lindsay Vaughn is in stable condition after she was injured during a dramatic crash in Sunday's Olympic downhill race. She was airlifted off the slope in a helicopter to be taken for treatment. NPR's Becky Sullivan has more.
Becky Sullivan
Lindsey Vaughn's crash looked bad. Just 13 seconds after she came out of the start house, Vaughn clipped one of the orange gates with the inside of her right arm, swinging her around in midair and crashing hard into the snow. She could be heard wailing on the TV broadcast as a medical team tended to her, the Associated Press reported. She was taken to a hospital in Treviso, a city two hours to the south. There, the AP said she underwent an operation to stabilize a fracture in her left leg. Vaughn had torn her left ACL just over a week ago, but decided to race anyway. It wasn't clear how much of a factor that was in the cr. Her teammate Breezy Johnson won the gold medal, becoming the second American woman to do so at the downhill event, the first, of course, being Vaughn herself back in 2010. Becky Sullivan in PR news, Cortina D', Ampezzo, Italy.

The US defended its gold medal in team figure skating on Sunday with a one point win over Japan. Ilya Malinin landed five quadruple jumps to score 200.03 points, helping the US to that win. I'm Dale Willman, and you're listening to NPR News.

This message comes from Midi Health. Co founders Joanna Strober and Dr. Kathleen Jordan discuss why they started a virtual care platform to empower and educate women in perimenopause and menopause. Historically, perimenopause and menopause have been very stigmatizing. So people haven't wanted to admit that they are in perimenopause and menopause as though it was, like, embarrassing, which is insane. It's just something happening to your body. So one of the things that we're trying to do is destigmatize these topics. Perimenopause and menopause are just women's health. So we try to educate women all the time. Maybe it's your hormones and we would like to help you.
Becky Sullivan
Yeah. And I find women actually want to talk about it. It's one of the things they always comment at MIDI is that they finally feel heard. One of the ways that women find MIDI is actually from other women, and I think it's meaningful.
