Live from NPR News, I'm Giles Snyder. The Republican chairman of the House Oversight Committee, Kentucky Congressman James Comer, says it did not come as a surprise that Ghislaine Maxwell chose to stay silent Monday when faced by lawmakers investigating the late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
James Comer (0:36)
As expected, Ghislaine Maxwell took the Fifth and refused to answer any questions. This obviously is very disappointing. We had many questions to ask about the crime she and Epstein committed, as well as questions about potential co conspirators. We sincerely want to get to the truth to the American people and justice for the survivors. That's what this investigation is about.

Pavlo Cherenko (2:00)
There is this transactional, not transparent side to negotiations.
