Live from NPR News, I'm Dale Wilman. Secretary of State Mark Rubio was in Slovakia Sunday, where he spoke about the evolving relationship between the US and the European Union. He said Europe needs to continue to grow in its own abilities.

We never we don't want Europe to be dependent on we're not asking Europe to be a vassal of the United States. We want to be your partner. We want to work with Europe. We want to work with our allies. And our point has been and continues to be the stronger you are, both on an individual basis in terms of countries and collectively as an alliance, the stronger the members of NATO are, the stronger NATO is.

Rubio also said the most important obligation of any government is to protect its own people. While in Slovakia, Rubio met with that country's foreign minister. The ICE agents deployed to Minnesota are leaving, and state officials say the local economy has taken a hit following weeks of aggressive crackdowns. NPR's Windsor Johnston has more.
