Live from NPR News, I'm Giles Snyder. President Trump presided today over the first meeting of what he calls his board of peace, announcing that the US will contribute $10 billion to the new organization. Trump says other countries have pledged another 7 billion DOL and to help rebuild Gaza. As NPR's Michelle Kellerman reports.

At the U.S. institute of Peace, a building that now bears Trump's name, the president gathered the 27 members of his board along with representatives of other countries that have yet to join. Gulf allies. And some Central Asian nations are promising nearly $7 billion for Gaza, he says, and Indonesia, Morocco and several other nations are promising troops and police.
Donald Trump (0:58)
We will help Gaza. We will straighten it out, we will make it successful, we will make it peaceful and we will do things like that in other spots.

Trump is chairman of the board, a job that his administration says will continue even after he leaves office. Michelle Kellerman, NPR News, the State Department.

The U.S. women's hockey team were Olympic champions. A two goals to one overtime win over Canada was a third women's hockey medal for the U.S. all time. NPR's Becky Sullivan reports from El.

This U.S. team was a freight train running through the Olympic Games with a blend of experienced vets like the five time Olympian Hillary Knight and thrilling young talent like the 22 year old phenom Layla Edwards. But Canada, the traditional women's hockey power, took the US to the brink. A rare defensive lapse by Edwards in the second period gave Canada a window to score a short handed goal to go up 1 0. Later with 2 minutes left in regulation, she made amends with a rocket of a shot that night, tipped up and in for the equalizer.
Hillary Knight (1:58)
Great patience and poised with the puck. And then as soon as it was going over to Layla, I was like I better get in front of that net.
Becky Sullivan (2:04)
That sent it to overtime where Megan Keller had a slick one on one move to beat the Canadian defender and score the game winning goal. Becky Sullivan, NPR News, Milan.
