Live from NPR News, I'm Dale Wilman. President Trump Saturday raised the new global tariff rate on goods entering the US to 15%. He announced an initial 10% tariff on Friday, hours after the Supreme Court ruling struck down as previous tariff packages. Some people and organizations are applauding the court's decision, but others are more skeptical. Harrison Elmore is chief operating officer of Luxury Pergola in Noblesville, Indiana. He says despite the ruling, he doesn't expect many changes.

The problem is that the domestic pricing for aluminum has also skyrocketed as a result. So what we thought originally would be overall beneficial for us has cost our prices to also rise substantially.

A powerful winter storm is expected to bring blizzard conditions and power outages along the east coast starting later today, as NPR's Selena Simmons Duffin reports. The hardest hit area is predicted to stretch from New Jersey to southern New England.

The National Weather Service has issued blizzard warnings for millions of residents in Long Island, New York City and southern Connecticut through Monday afternoon. The winter storm that's brewing off the mid Atlantic coast will bring heavy, wet snow that's expected to come down quickly for many hours, creating hazardous travel conditions. High winds are also expected, which increase the risk of power outages and coastal flooding. The National Weather Service is advising people who live in the path of the storm to stock up on three days worth of non perishable food, water and medications. Charge phones and ensure there are warm clothes, blankets and a first aid kit available. Selena Simmons Duffin, NPR News.

It's been the most successful Winter Olympics ever for American athletes. The United States has now won 11 gold medals. The that's more than any US squad at any previous Winter Games. Steve Futterman has our reports.

Before Milan Cortino, the best U.S. winter Olympics as far as gold medals was the Salt Lake City Games in 2002. There, the US had 10 first place finishes at every subsequent Winter Games in Torino, Vancouver, Sochi, Pyeongchang and Beijing. Americans came away with nine on Saturday. The record breaking 11th gold came in freestyle skiing, mixed aerials. And Kayla Kuhn of the US Team says the American squad fought hard for

The US still has a chance to increase its record haul. The final event is the gold medal match in men's hockey. For NPR News, I'm Steve Futterman in Milan.

Ukrainian forces hit a factory deep inside Russia on Saturday morning. Russian officials say at least 11 people were wounded in that strike. Airports in the region were also closed for a short time. Officials in Ukraine say the facility was a key state owned missile factory. Russia, meanwhile, lost 50 missiles and 297 drones at Ukraine overnight. This is NPR News. Comments by US Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee are being condemned this weekend by Arab and Muslim countries. In an interview with Tucker Carlson that aired Friday, Huckabee was at asked if Israel has a right to the lands of the Middle east, he replied by saying it would be fine if they took it all. So far, Israel and the US have not responded to those comments. Hollywood's box office numbers will be modest this weekend, but there's one place where movie theaters remain packed. NPR's Bob Mondello explains with lackluster reviews.

The comedy how to Make a Killing will not be making a killing this weekend. And the steamy romance Wuthering Heights is losing steam, so North American cinemas will have seats available. Not so now in China, where Chinese New Year celebrations have been in full swing since Tuesday. The film business news site Deadline Hollywood reports that Chinese films, led by the race car action flick Pegasus 3, are expected to pull in more than $800 million between Tuesday and Sunday. That dwarfs Hollywood's biggest week back in 2019 when Endgame boosted American cinemas to a best ever $536 million with lower ticket prices in China. It also represents many more moviegoers.
