Live from NPR News, I'm Dale Willman. Millions of people are in the path of a dangerous winter storm that's bringing blizzard conditions to states across the northeastern U.S. at this hour. And NPR's Chandelyse Duster has more.

National Weather Service meteorologist Cody Snell said during a briefing Sunday that there could be at least 18 inches to 2ft of snow up through Massachusetts.

That's where we're going to see the major impacts from snowfall with this system. That includes heavy snowfall rates, which is going to reduce visibility and accumulate on roads very quickly.

Emergencies have been declared in multiple states, including Delaware, New Jersey, New York, Connecticut and Massachusetts. A travel ban has also been issued in New York City. All bridges, highways and streets in the city will be closed to traffic through noon Monday. Officials are warning those in the storm's path to stay inside. Chandelyse Duster, NPR News.

So whether it's, you know, lumber for housing or cars and the factories and the ecosystem that go along with them for transportation, these are the types of things we need to have a strong economy, have a strong industrial base to prepare us for times of war and other things.

Greer was speaking Sunday on ABC's this Week program. The International Criminal Court today begins several days of hearings to determine whether former Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte should stand trial for crimes against humanity. Michael Sullivan has a report.

The 80 year old Duterte will not be physically present for the start of the proceedings. The court accepting his request not to appear in person, citing a letter he sent to the court claiming he was, quote, old, tired and frail. He was arrested in Manila in March. And ICC prosecutors have charged him with three counts of crimes against humanity in connection with his war on drugs in both Davao City as mayor and countrywide as president from 2016 through 2022. Human rights groups say thousands of people were killed during that period, with some putting the number in the tens of thousands. Duterte denies the charges against him. Asian stocks did well on Monday. South Korea's Kospi index gained 0.6%. Taiwan's benchmark touched a record high before falling back slightly. And Indonesian stocks rose 1.3% after that country's stock exchange unveiled a series of capital market reforms. The markets, meanwhile, are bracing for earnings later this week. From tech giant Nvidia. You're listening to NPR News. Mexico's army says it has killed the leader of the Jalisco New Generation cartel, known as El Mencho. He led what has been Mexico's most powerful drug cartel. Last year, the Trump administration designated that cartel as a foreign terrorist organization. The U.S. state Department had offered a reward of up to $15 million for information leading to El Mencho's arrests. It was the hockey matchup that fans in North America were hoping for the US And Canada for the gold medal. And it lived up to expectations as the U.S. won Sunday in a dramatic overtime 2 to 1. It was the U.S. men's first gold in hockey since 1980. Steve Futterman reports.

It was an emotional, hard fought match with everything on the line. The U.S. scored first six minutes into the game. Canada tied it one to one at the end of the second. Neither team scored in the third, sending the game into overtime. And just a minute 42 into the extra period, the U.S. s Jack Hughes had an open shot to the left of the net. He calmly put it through, setting off a wild celebration. Here's Hughes after the game.
