Live from NPR News in Washington, I'm Dave Mattingley. Blizzard warnings are in effect this morning from Maryland's Eastern Shore to Maine. The National Weather Service says a nor' easter will dump one to two feet of snow over a wide area before the winter storm moves away. Catalina Ganello with member station WNYC has more from New York.
Catalina Gonella
It's shaping up to be one of those winters New Yorkers will remember. Snow from a storm last month has lingered for weeks due to freezing temperatures. 31 year old private chef Sydney Buck says it's already worse than 2016 when a blizzard left her without electricity.
Sydney Buck
Everything was shut down. I remember the streets were shut down. We couldn't take the subway anywhere.
Catalina Gonella
But 49 year old Tom Chernish says he's seen worse.
Tom Chernish
96, that was the big one. Blizzard of 96 people skiing down 5th Avenue. I remember this one. You know I'll survive it.
Catalina Gonella
Forecasters say some areas could get upwards of 20 inches of snow by the time it's over. For NPR, I'm Catalina Gonela in New York.

The European Union is looking for answers after President Trump imposed a 15% tariff on US imports as a result of the US Supreme Court having struck down some of his sweeping levies as illegal as as Terry Schultz reports, the EU's executive arm is calling on the White House to honor a trade agreement it concluded with EU countries last year.
Terry Scholz
A deal is a deal, the European Commission says in a written response to President Trump's announcement of new tariffs. It adds that as the U.S. s largest trading partner, the European Union wants full clarity on Washington's next steps and expects an agreement the two sides made last August to be respected. That accord set a 15% import duty on most EU goods other than those which are already covered by other tariffs such as steel and aluminum. Some products even have zero tariffs in the agreement. In exchange, the EU agreed to remove many tariffs on U.S. imports. The European Parliament was due to vote on the U. S. EU trade deal Tuesday, but the head of the trade committee says he now wants to delay it. For NPR News, I'm Terry Scholz in Brussels.

That's NPR's Luke Garrett. Authorities say the family of Austin Tucker Martin had recently reported him missing. This is NPR News from Washington. The White House is praising Mexico's government after the country's army killed the leader of the Jalisco drug cartel, known as El Mencho, as it tried to capture him. The cartel responded with violence, including setting vehicles on fire. The Winter Olympic Games in Italy are over. Following last night's closing ceremony, the US finished second behind Norway with 33 medals, including a record 12 gold medals for American athletes at the Winter Games. Among the gold medals won by the U.S. were in men's and women's hockey. Both were 2 to 1 overtime wins over Canada. The U.S. men's team captured gold on the ice yesterday, as NPR's Becky Sullivan reports.

This was the first Olympics in more than a decade with NHL players and with two rivals squaring off for gold. It was a tense, thrilling, fast paced game. The Americans struck first when six minutes in, Matt Boldy chipped the puck to himself as he fought through a pair of Canadian defenders and found the net. That was it for the Americans in regulation. The rest was a white, knuckled, terrifying ride as the Canadians pressed with chance after chance. Cale Makar evened it up in the second period, but otherwise US Goaltender Connor Hellebuck had the game of a lifetime with 41 saves and every one of them needed to send the game to overtime. Then it was Jack Hughes, his mouth bloodied, his front tooth badly chipped after taking a stick to the face, who scored. The game winner and his teammates who threw their sticks and gloves into the air to celebrate. Becky Sullivan, NPR News, Milan.
