Details@capitalone.com Live from NPR News, I'm Korva Coleman. President Trump says he will impose global tariffs of 15%. This announcement comes after the US Supreme Court overturned some of his enormous tariffs on different countries last Friday. And Piers Mara Liasson says Congress will have to weigh in.
Piers Morgan Liasson
At first glance, the ruling was seen as a godsend for Republicans. They were not going to have to defend Trump's unpopular tariffs. Maybe prices would go down. But that optimism among Republicans lasted about five minutes because Trump immediately said that not only was he going to put more tariffs on under a different authority, but that means he has to ask Congress to vote on the tariff now. Trump might back off. He might not have the votes. We just saw six House Republicans vote with Democrats against the tariffs on Canada.

NPR's Mara Liasson reporting. As President Trump weighs whether to strike Iran militarily, Israel is on high alert for war. Israel is also considering strikes on Iran's ballistic missile program, as NPR's Daniel Estrin reports from Tel Aviv.
Daniel Estrin
Talks over Iran's nuclear program are scheduled for Thursday. But Israel has another concern, Iran's ballistic missile program. A person briefed on the matter who spoke to NPR on condition of anonymity, said Israel has received US Assurances that if the US Ends up reaching a diplomatic deal with Iran that only addresses Iran's nuclear program, Israel would have a green light to strike Iran's missile program. Meanwhile, there's high anticipation in Israel about a possible US Strike on Iran and a potential retaliatory attack from Iran on Israel. Israel's military chief says the country is at peak readiness. Daniel Estrin, NPR News, Tel Aviv.

The sound of snow blowers and plows reverberated across the city overnight. Streets were deserted thanks to an emergency travel ban ordered by the mayor. But Kara Younger still had to head outside to walk her dog.
Casey
Casey I think the dog may dread it more than more than US she does not like the wet. So, yeah, it's not as fun. It'd be nice just to stay inside, but we've got to do it.

The blizzard knocked out power to tens of thousands of homes across New Jersey. Over 3,000 flights were canceled at the area's Theater 3 airports. Kids can have some fun outside today, though, New York's public schools are closed for a rare snow day. For NPR News, I'm Steve Kastenbaum in New York.

This is npr. Federal officials are investigating an intruder who got into President Trump's Florida estate yesterday morning carrying a shotgun and a gas can. Secret Service agents and a sheriff's deputy fired shots at the man and killed him. Trump was in Washington. No one else was injured. Officials identify the intruder as 21 year old Austin Martin of North Carolina. Rescuers in California have recovered the bodies of all nine missing skiers. The background skiers were killed last week in an avalanche near Lake Tahoe. Six skiers survived. Authorities are reviewing the tragedy to determine if there are any circumstances that might trigger an investigation for criminal negligence. Mourners held a vigil for the skiers last night. Scientists have discovered a new species of dinosaur. NPR's Rebecca Hersher reports. It was as long as a bus and it ate fish.
Rebecca Hersher
The dinosaur is a type of Spinosaurus. That's a group of dinosaurs that were very large predators with long, pointy skulls, ideal for fishing. The new species of Spinosaurus was discovered in the Sahara in an area that was marshy when the Animal lived about 95 million years ago. The discovery was made by an international group of scientists led by a team from the University of Chicago. The details were published in the journal Science last week. The new species is different from its cousins because it has a large horn like crest sticking up from its skull. The authors speculate that the animal used that crest to attract others of its species.
