Live from NPR News in Washington, I'm Windsor Johnston. Former President Bill Clinton is set to testify before the House Oversight Committee in New York at this hour as Congress continues its investigation into convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Republican Chairman James Comer spoke to the press shortly before the closed door deposition.
James Comer
No one's accusing anyone of any wrongdoing, but I think the American people have a lot of questions and our House Oversight Committee is committed to getting answers.

Clinton's name appears multiple times in the Epstein files. Meanwhile, Democrats on the committee are calling on President Trump to testify in the probe. The president is also named in the files.

of all non emergency US Staff and their family from Israel, citing safety risks. The directive comes as President Trump continues to move fighter jets and warships to the Middle east to pressure Iran in nuclear talks. NPR's Aya Batrawi has more.

In addition to ordering non emergency US Staff and their families to leave Israel, the US Embassy advised that other Americans may also wish to consider leaving while commercial flights are available. A similar order was issued for non emergency US Staff to depart Lebanon earlier this week. Despite these precautionary orders and a continued US Military buildup in the region, Iran and the Trump administration continue to hold indirect talks. The latest talks were in Geneva on Thursday and included the head of the International Atomic Energy Agency that monitors nuclear enrichment. Arya Botsrawi, NPR News, Dubai.

And NPR has learned that Vice President J.D. vance is set to meet with Oman's foreign minister today as UN U S. Iran nuclear talks continue. The meeting comes after a third round of indirect talks between US Envoy Steve Wykoff and President Trump's son in law, Jared Kushner. And Iran.

Three top Democratic congressmen say they were stunned when they were officially notified about the latest drone incident, quote, unquote. Our heads are exploding over the news, the lawmakers said in a statement. It's the second time in two weeks that a high energy anti drone laser has been fired in the area. Last time, the FAA briefly shut down the airspace around El Paso. This time, the FAA closed a smaller area around Fort Hancock about 50 miles southeast of El Paso, and no commercial flights were affected. In an unusual joint statement, the Pentagon, the FAA and Customs and Border Protection said they're, quote, working together in an unprecedented fashion, unquote, while also trying to increase cooperation and communication in the future. On Wall street, the dow was down 563 points. This is NPR News. The body of the late civil rights leader, the Reverend Jesse Jackson, is lying in repose at Rainbow Push Coalition headquarters in Chicago. Summer Van Benton with member station WBEZ reports Jackson died this month at the age of 84.
Summer Van Benton
Jackson founded the Rainbow Push Coalition here in Chicago in 1996. Thousands have come through to pay their respects to the late civil rights leader. Jackson's senior advisor, Reverend Jeanette Wilson, says she thinks Jackson's passing will awaken people recalling a conversation she had with a young man.
Jeanette Wilson
And he started recounting the work that Reverend Jackson has done. He said, I'm ready to step up. And so I think that his death will inspire a generation that felt like they were so hopeless in despair, they didn't see anything up.
Summer Van Benton
Next week, Jackson will lie and repose in his home state of South Carolina before heading to Washington, D.C. for NPR News, I'm Summer Van Benton in Chicago.

Fast food chain Burger King is testing AI powered headsets for workers in about 500 restaurants nationwide. The system can track how employees interact with customers, recite recipes and alert managers when supplies run low. Through an AI voice assistant called Patti, Burger King says the technology is meant to coach workers and improve service, not monitor individual employees. Stocks continue to trade sharply lower on Wall street at this hour. The dow was down 556 points, the NASDAQ down 151. I'm Windsor Johnston, NPR News, in Washington.
