Live from NPR News, I'm Lakshmi Singh. President Trump says the strikes in Iran are aimed at destroying Iran's missile capabilities, its navy making sure it cannot obtain a nuclear weapon and preventing it from arming and funding terrorism around the globe. In remarks this afternoon, Trump offered no new details about the length or scope of the strikes that began over the weekend and has so far resulted in the deaths of four American soldiers.

and Israeli strikes continue on Iran. The country's top security official, Ali Ledijani, has one message for the White we will not negotiate with the United States. In a post on X, Ledijani said President Trump has betrayed an America first strategy for Israel first, he said the president is sacrificing American treasure and blood to advance the interests of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to target Iran. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghi said on X that a deal had been within reach between Iran and the United States at recent negotiations. At least 10 people have been killed in Israel in the three days since the start of the war. Itay Stern has the latest from Tel Aviv.

Nine Israelis were killed yesterday in the city of Beit Shemesh near Jerusalem after Israel failed to intercept an Iranian missile that struck, among other places, a synagogue in Tel Aviv. A woman of Filipino origin, a caregiving worker, was killed when her home sustained a direct hit. Rescue forces evacuated dozens of additional wounded to hospitals. Iran's Revolutionary Guard claimed Monday that they had targeted the Israeli prime minister's office, but these reports were officially denied by Israeli authorities. At last check on Wall street, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was down slightly at 48,973. The S&P was up 9 points. The Nasdaq gained 108 points. It's NPR. The federal government's expanding work requirements for recipients of the federal food assistance program known as snap, took effect today. Ty Jones Cox, the vice president for food assistance at the center on Budget and Policy Priorities, details the changes.

The new law expanded that three month time limit to apply to older adults up to age 65 who we know are more likely to face age related discrimination in the job market and they tend to have more work limiting health conditions, even if they aren't receiving disability benefits. It also expanded it for the first time to parents, grandparents and other caretakers of kids as young as 14.

The University of Colorado is mourning the death of Buffs football player Dominic Ponder on ex coach Deion Sanders pays tribute to the CU quarterback who Colorado State Police say died yesterday morning in a single car crash. They say Ponder was driving a 2023 Tesla when the vehicle lost control on a curve, struck an electrical pole and rolled down embankment. Ponder was 23 years old. Milano Cortina is now preparing to hold the Paralympic Winter Games, which opens March 6 tomorrow. Cortina d' Ampezzo will host the symbolic moment when the Paralympic flames from various routes converge to create a single flame ahead of the official opening.
