In Washington, I'm Korva Coleman. Iran has its new supreme leader. The country's religious leaders picked Mashtaba Khamenei, the son of the late Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. The late ayatollah died in an airstrike on the first day of the war. The the finance ministers of the G7 industrial nations are speaking today. They're thinking about releasing emergency oil reserves. Oil prices have soared past $100 a barrel for the first time in four years due to the war. NPR's Eha Batrawi has the latest from the Persian Gulf.

Bahrain's petroleum company Bapco says it's suspending production after an Iranian hit on a refinery in Sitra. Authorities in Bahrain say an Iranian drone also targeted a residential area in Sitra, wounding 32 Bahrainis, among them four children who required surger. And Kuwait's national oil company says it's reducing output due to the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, a narrow waterway in the Gulf where ships are at risk of being targeted. Iranian attacks have also forced Qatar to halt all gas production while work at Saudi Arabia's biggest oil refinery remains suspended. Israel, meanwhile, bombed large fuel storage tanks in Iran's capital, Tehran, over the weekend. Huge plumes of toxic black smoke covered the sky and coated buildings, trees and cars. The war is causing gas prices to skyrocket in the US in just a week, the average cost for a single gallon of regular gas has rocketed up nearly 50 cents. That's according to the Motoring Club AAA. It says the average price is now $3.47 a gallon. Everett Bolton of North Carolina is thinking about his travel this year.

Economists point out that if American spending more money on gas, they'll have less money to spend on items such as groceries and entertainment. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy says that experts from his country will soon arrive in the Middle East. They're going to advise the US And Gulf nations on how to shoot down Iranian designed drones. NPR's Joanna Kakis has more from Kyiv.

Ukraine uses cheap interceptor drones to shoot down Iranian designed shahed drones. Zelensky said several countries want to purchase Ukraine's interceptor drones. He said last week that the U.S. and Gulf nations are using expensive Patriot missiles to shoot down shaheds, which Iranian forces are using in retaliatory strikes on US Sites in the Middle East. On Wall street, the dow was down 700 points, or about one and a half percent. This is NPR News. Reports say the Justice Department has reached a settlement with entertainment company Live Nation in an antitrust case. The Associated Press and other news outlets say the deal comes just as both sides were prepared to go to trial. The agency alleges the company and its subsidiary Ticketmaster have behaved in ways that hurt music venues and people who buy tickets. One example included fans trying to buy tickets in 2022 to Seat Taylor Swift. Many could not see the superstar faced with high prices, long lines and a platform that often crashed. U.S. immigration and Customs Enforcement officers detained three Mariachi student musicians and their parents. In San Antonio, Texas Public Radio's Jerry Clayton reports Texas lawmakers are demanding answers.

15th congressional district Republican incumbent Monica De La Cruz, her challenger, Democratic nominee Bobby Polito, along with Democratic U.S. representative Vicente Gonzalez, all took to social media voicing concerns about the detention of the family. Brothers 18 year old Antonio Gamez Cuellar, 14 year old Caleb and 12 year old Joshua are being held in two separate detention facilities along with their parents after being taken into custody last month. Antonio and Caleb are both members of the award winning Mariachi oro group from McAllen High School. The family came to the US from Mexico in 2023 seeking asylum. I'm Jerry Clayton in San Antonio.

The National Weather Service says it's collected reports of nearly two dozen tornadoes that hit last Friday, mostly in Michigan and Oklahoma. Eight people were killed. I'm Korva Coleman, NPR News.
