Live from NPR News in Washington, I'm Dan Ronan. AAA's latest fuel survey shows the price of unleaded regular gasoline now sits at just below $3.70 a gallon. Nationally, that's up almost a quarter in the last week. Gasoline is nearly 70 cents a gallon more expensive than a year ago. NPR White House correspondent Danielle Kurtzbond says the White House position on rising fuel prices seems to be changing on a regular basis.

The definition of victory has been a mo, but it's pretty fair to say that, yeah, he cares a lot about reopening that strait because gas prices I mean, before this war, he talked about gas prices all the time trying to make the case that his economy was strong. And that was one of his key data points. And now that line about gas prices is conspicuously gone when he speaks.

NPR's Daniel Kurtzleben. Meanwhile, diesel fuel, the main energy component in trucking, is nearly $5 a gallon, up $1.40 from a year ago. Wall street is bracing for another bumpy week as the war in Iran continues to send prices for oil soaring. NPR's Maria Aspen reports. Now all eyes are on the Federal Reserve.
C
The Fed has been widely expected to hold interest rates steady when it meets this week. Even before the war upended oil markets, inflation has been moderating, but it's still hotter than the Fed would like. And now oil prices are surging with which is already hitting consumers at the gas pump. If the conflict continues, the energy crisis will likely spill over into all kinds of trucking and shipping costs, fueling more inflation and hurting the broader economy. Wall street has shrugged off a lot of geopolitical turmoil in recent months, but it seems pretty worried about the war and its potential economic fallout. Stocks fell for their third straight week, and US Markets are in the red since the start of the year. Maria Aspen, NPR news.
