Live from NPR News, I'm Lakshmi Singh. The US Is presenting what it calls the foundation of a framework for a peace deal with Iran at President Trump's Cabinet meeting today. One of the president's key negotiators, special envoy Steve Witkoff, described the proposal as a 15 point action list. Witkoff says Pakistan has circulated the proposal in a mediating capacity between the US And Iran.

We will see where things lead and if we can convince Iran that this is the inflection point with no good alternatives for them other than more death and destruction, we have strong signs that this is a possibility. And if a deal happens, it will be great for the country of Iran, for the entire region and the world at large.

The United Arab Emirates says it intercepted 15 missiles and several drones fired at it from Iran. The UAE says two more people were killed by fallen debris in Abu Dhabi, raising the country's civilian death toll in the war to eight. NPR's Aya Batrawi has more from the UAE.

The UAE, which has been targeted the most in the region by Iranian counterattacks, says it is ready to join an international force to open the Strait of Hormuz. Ships, including oil and gas tankers, are unable to transit because of Iranian attacks. In an op ed published in the Wall street journal, the UAE's ambassador to Washington, Yousef Al Ahdeba said Iran cannot be allowed to hold the global economy hostage. He wrote a simple ceasefire isn't enough and that a conclusive outcome is needed that addresses Iran's threat, including, he says, its nuclear capabilities and its missiles and drones. Before the U. S. Israeli war on Iran, approximately one hundred and thirty ships a day passed through the strait. The latest figures show six or less ships transiting a day in coordination with Iran. Lawmakers are meeting to consider aviation safety reform days after a Runway collision at New York's LaGuardia Airport killed two pilots. In briefing the public about its preliminary investigation, the National Transportation Safety Board echoed safety concerns and recommendations in the aftermath of last year's deadly mid air collision near Ronald Reagan Washington national Airport. Here's NPR's Kristen Wright.

House committees on transportation and armed services are considering changes to aviation with the goal of making it safer to fly. The Alert act requires airplanes and helicopters to be equipped with collision prevention technology. The bill also calls for enhanced air traffic control training. Lawmakers are also considering an audit of the FAA's safety culture. And the legislation proposes strengthening the airspace around Reagan Washington Airport. 67 people were killed when an American Airlines jet and Army Black Hawk helicopter collided there last year. Artificial intelligence chatbots tend to flatter and validate the viewpoints of the person with whom they're interacting. Ari Daniel highlights new data suggesting AI could end up blocking the one thing its human user might need. The hard truth.

Researchers found that numerous AI models affirmed someone's problematic or wrong behavior about half the time to consider the impact they had. 800 participants interact with an AI about a real conflict from their lives. Those who'd interacted with an affirming AI were 25% more convinced they were right and 10% less willing to do something to fix the situation. Stanford University Computer Science PhD student Myra Chang says that companies and policymakers should work together to fix the problem.
