Live from NPR News, I'm Lakshmi Singh. President Trump may be attempting to end the war with Iran without forcing Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, according to the Wall Street Journal's reporting. Trump has said other countries need the waterway more than the U.S. does. But NPR's Tom Bowman says it's a much different picture for the average American consumer.

I'm paying a $10 more per gallon for gas than I was a month ago. NPR and fertilizer prices have gone up and the growing season is going to start soon. Liquefied natural gas in Europe has doubled in cost and it's only going to get worse for all of us if they don't get that straight open somehow. And that's a laborious process to do that. You have to create a combat air patrol first of all, 50 square mile radius, I'm told, and then send in minesweepers to make sure you get all those. And then after that, destroyers would have to go in to basically escort the oil takers through the straits. So that is really key here, I think.

NPR's Tom Bowman, AAA says for the first time since the fall of 2022, the average price for a gallon of regular gas tops $4. The US Supreme Court has overturned Colorado's law that bans conversion therapy for LGBTQ youth. Colorado's law prohibits mental health professionals in the state from attempting to change a minor client's sexual orientation or gender identity during talk therapy sessions. Major psychological governing bodies say the practice is harmful, and the state argued it has the authority to regulate licensed therapists. But an 8 to 1 High Court majority sided with a Christian counselor who argues the law banning certain therapies violates the First Amendment. The majority found the Colorado law regulates speech based on viewpoint and permit some types of speech but not others. One of the sponsors of Colorado's law said the ruling would put some children in jeopardy. For NPR News, I'm Benta Berkland in Vail, Colorado.

A federal judge has struck down the core of President Trump's executive order barring federal funding for NPR and pbs. The court says the order violates the broadcaster's First Amendment rights. The ruling's impact remains unclear in the wake of cost cutting measures and closures that have already begun at member stations across across the U.S. a U.S. district Court says construction of the White House ballroom must stop until Congress authorizes its completion. In a social media post, President Trump says the National Trust for Historic Preservation does not appreciate his efforts to spruce up buildings like the White House. The ballroom's estimated to cost at least $300 million. Before the close, the Dow was up more than 1100 points. You're listening to NPR News. New guidelines from the American Heart association recommend a diet rich in plant proteins and healthy oils such as olive oil. NPR's Alison Aubrey reports. The advice clashes with the messages Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. Emphasizes.
