Part of the president's stated goal here is to encourage more domestic manufacturing, and certainly tariffs, along with low taxes and limited regulation can help to foster that. But another thing factory owners look for is a stable, predictable business environment. And as economist Ernie Tedeschi of the Yale Budget Lab says, nothing about the last few weeks would suggest that's what they'll find in the United States right now.

One of Britain's biggest sporting events of the year is being run today, the grand national horse race being held at Aintree in Northwest England. It's a steeplechase, and I Am Maximus could become just the second horse since the 1970s to win the race. Back to back, the grand national has drawn protests from animal rights activists. Two years ago, they delayed the race by 15 minutes after scaling the fence around the course's perimeter and getting onto the track. I'm Giles Snyder. This is NPR News.

President Donald Trump continued his administration’s aggressive stance on trade as global stock markets experienced a notable decline this past week. Business Impact:
Tavio Savedra, president of EP Logistics, shared that investment in cross-border operations has stalled due to the unpredictability of the new tariff environment.
