A US Air Force officer who, along with another crew member ejected from a jet shot down in Iran on Friday, was rescued by US Forces Sunday morning. Tasnim News agency affiliated with Iran's Revolutionary Guard, says at least five people were killed by US And Israeli forces involved in the operation. President Trump announced the rescue on social media, calling it one of the most daring search and rescue operations in US History. Revolutionary Guard spokesman Ebrahim Zolfar posted a video on X calling the operation an escape rather than a rescue. Dee Pavaz, NPR News, Vaughn, Turkey.

Oil markets remain on edge as the conflict in the Middle east threatens key supply routes. OPEC says it's planning to boost output, but some producers are struggling to increase production amid ongoing instability. Former State Department energy envoy David Goldwyn says even the threat of disruption can drive prices higher.
David Goldwyn
Oil is a globally priced commodity, so even though we won't have a physical shortage here because we've got Canada for heavy oil and we produce our own, the reality is that the price is global and there's a real physical shortage, and so we don't escape that price impact. And that translates to what it costs a refiner to buy the crude and therefore what you pay for gasoline at the pump. So we are not immune from that.

According to AAA, gas prices continue to climb in the US with the national average more than $4 per gallon in California, a gallon of regular close to $6. Easter in Jerusalem is somber. This year, Israeli authorities have implemented tight restrictions, allowing only residents and few visitors into the walled Old City. NPR's Carrie Khan reports. The city is usually packed with Christian faithful and pilgrims. During Holy Week.
Carrie Khan
This Easter, only about a dozen priests were praying inside the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, where it's believed Jesus died and was resurrected. The Latin Patriarch office shared this video. Last week, he was barred from entering by Israeli police, citing safety restrictions. After wide criticism, a small number are back in, but no crowds. Auxiliary Bishop William Shomali says holy places without pilgrims is like a body without soul.

We intensify our prayer for peace for the politicians so that they may take another way, change their mind and choose the way of peace, forgiveness and reconciliation.

This pays off more, he says, than violence. Carrie Khan, NPR News, Jerusalem.

The pope also called for peace and urged the world not to grow numb to war and suffering. In the United Kingdom, the archbishop of Canterbury used her Easter sermon to call for an end to the fighting in the Middle East. The Vicki Barker has more from London.

Far from Canterbury Cathedral, Rwandan Archbishop Laura Mbanda, leader of a conservative breakaway Anglican body formed in direct protest against Mulally's installation, issued his own Easter message, hailing the resurrection and telling fellow believers there is an African proverb that says, however long the night, the dawn will break.
