What's going to happen with the market? I can't tell you, but I can tell you our country has gotten a lot stronger and eventually it'll be a country like no other. It'll be the most dominant country economically in the world.

Palestinian health officials say Israeli strikes in Gaza this weekend have killed at least 32 people. More than a dozen women and children were among those who died. Israel's military had ordered Palestinians to evacuate several neighborhoods in a central Gaza City. Shortly after, about 10 projectiles were fired from Gaza toward Israel. The military says five of those projectiles were intercepted. You're listening to NPR News. The Philippines says a Chinese coast guard ship nearly collided with one of its vessels off the coast of a Philippine island. The near miss is the latest tense incident between China and the Philippines over an ongoing territorial dispute. NPR's Emily Fang reports.

The Philippines Coast Guard says a Chinese ship nearly hit one of its smaller boats in what it calls a provocative action. The ships were off the coast of Luzon island, one of the Philippines biggest. The Chinese ship is the same one that the Philippines said rammed one of its boats last year over a dispute in the South China Sea. In 2016, an international tribunal ruled in favor of the Philippines, saying much of the waters in that sea are under its economic control, not China. But China has not respected that ruling, and the fear is that an incident between the two countries could spark a war. U.S. defense Secretary Pete Hegseth visited Manila last week and pledged more military cooperation with the Philippines. Emily Fang, NPR News, Washington.

Palestinian health officials reported that Israeli airstrikes in Gaza over the weekend have resulted in at least 32 deaths, including more than a dozen women and children. Tensions between the Philippines and China intensified following a recent nearly-colliding incident between a Chinese coast guard vessel and a Philippine boat near Luzon Island. The Philippines Coast Guard condemned the action as "provocative," noting that the same Chinese ship had rammed a Philippine vessel last year amid ongoing territorial disputes in the South China Sea.
The 2016 international tribunal ruling favored the Philippines, granting it significant economic control over disputed waters. However, China has consistently disregarded this decision, raising fears that escalating confrontations could potentially lead to armed conflict. In response to the heightened tensions, U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth visited Manila last week, pledging increased military cooperation with the Philippines.
