Let us surprise you live from NPR News. I'm Dale Willman. The cease fire talks in Pakistan appear to be going nowhere. Vice President J.D. vance and a U.S. delegation were in Islamabad this weekend for talks with Iranian officials, but Vance says the talks have not gone well.
J.D. Vance
We've had a number of substantive discussions with the Iranians. That's the good news. The bad news is that we have not reached an agreement. And I think that's bad news for Iran much more than it's bad news for the United States of America. So we go back to the United States having not come to an agreement. We've made very clear what our red lines are, what things we're willing to accommodate them on and what things we're not willing to accommodate them on. And we've made that as clear as we possibly could. And they have chosen not to accept our terms.

The war has caused major disruptions to the global economy. In the Middle east, the US Says two warships have passed through the hotly contested Strait of Hormuz. The strait is a major conduit for crude oil supplies leaving the Middle east, and traffic has been blocked for weeks. As NPR's Elena Wise reports, it's the first transit of American warships since the start of the Iran war six weeks ago.

The Defense Department says two Navy guided missile destroyers pass through the Strait of Hormuz as the critical water passageway has become a key landmark in the ongoing conflict. US Central Command said that the US Forces had begun setting conditions to clear Iranian sea mines planted throughout the waterway. The blockage of the strait has led to global energy concerns and spikes in the prices of oil and natural gas. Central Command said additional American forces would join in helping to clear the Strait of Hormuz of mines in the coming days. Ilana Wise, NPR News.

Democratic leaders are calling on Congressman Eric Swalwell to end his bid for governor of California following allegations made by a former staffer that he sexually assaulted her. NPR has not independently verified the allegation, which was first published in the San Francisco Chronicle as well as with CNN. NPR's Elena Moore has more on our

story Swalwell is denying the sexual assault allegations, saying in a video posted online Friday that they were absolutely false. But he also said this.
Eric Swalwell
I have certainly made mistakes in judgment in my past, but those mistakes are between me and my wife. And to her, I apologize deeply for putting her in this position.
Elena Moore
Several women have accused him of sexual misconduct. California's primary is set for June, and Swalwell was seen as a front runner in the race. Now his standing in Congress is also uncertain. In a statement, House Democratic leaders stopped short of calling for his resignation, but demanded he end his gubernatorial campaign and that there be a, quote, swift investigation. And you're listening to NPR News. San Francisco Saturday celebrated the first Dolores Huerta Day parade honoring the legacy of the farm workers movement. The parade was renamed after Cesar Chavez was accused of rape and molestation last month from member station kqed. Lakshmi Serra reports from San Francisco.
Lakshmi Serra
Aztec dancers led the parade of cars, trucks, lowriders and union representatives from local iron workers, electricians and farm workers. This year's theme was Centering Our Culture and Collective Power. Nikki Tresvina has been supporting the parade for years.
Nikki Tresvina
Changing the name changing and all that and taking Cesar's name off of everything is part of what some people think we should do. But deep down, we have to examine how we are really treating victims of sexual assault.
Lakshmi Serra
She wants to see more support for victims who are afraid to speak up in the workplace. The parade ended with a festival featuring music, a classic car show and a community service info booth. For NPR News, I'm Lakshmi Sara.
