Live from NPR News, I'm Dale Willman. The Artemis II crew is safely back on Earth after a more than nine day journey around the moon and back as Central Florida Public Media's Brandon Byrne reports that their spacecraft splashed down in the Pacific Ocean southwest of San Diego. Houston Integrity splashdown sending post land in command now.
Brendan Byrne
The crew's Orion Spacecraft made the 13 and a half minute journey through the atmosphere, reaching a top speed of around 33 times the speed of sound and slowing to just around 19 miles per hour at splashdown. The four astronauts have traveled more than 694,000 miles since launching from Florida's Kennedy Space Center. It was the first time humans ventured to the moon in more than 50 years. The the mission was a critical flight of Orion carrying crew for the first time and testing key systems like the life support, propulsion and the heat shield. NASA will take this data and use it for future astronaut missions with a goal to land humans on the moon by 2028. For NPR News, I'm Brendan Byrne in Orlando.

Iran's team of negotiators have arrived in Pakistan for talks there Saturday with Vice President J.D. vance. As NPR Zaya Petrawi reports, the two sides are meeting after President Trump backed down from threats to bomb Iran's power plants and instead agreed to a two week ceasefire.
Aya Baltrawi
Pakistan's state TV showed Iran's parliament speaker Mohammed Berger Ghalibaf and Foreign Minister Abbas Arakchi being welcomed on the tarmac in Islamabad by senior Pakistani officials. The Iranian team will be holding talks with Vance, who's traveling with special envoy Steve Witkoff and President Trump's son in law, Jared Kushner. Trump says his top priorities now are ensuring Iran has no nuclear weapon and that the Strait of Hormuz opens for shipping. Iran is demanding an end to Israel's invasion of Lebanon. Israel's attacks on the Iran backed Hezbollah group and civilian areas of Beirut killed more than 350 people Wednesday, according to Lebanon's health Ministry threatening the talks in Pakistan. Dozens more have been killed since. Aya Baltrawi, NPR News, Dubai.

President Trump says he knew his wife wanted to address rumors about the late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein this week. But but as NPR's Franco Ordonez reports, the president said he did not know what she would say before her public remarks.
Franco Ordonez
First Lady Mellenia Trump made a rare and surprising public statement denying ties to Epstein and calling on Congress to allow victims to testify. Her name appears in the latest tranche of documents published at the end of January. In an interview with the New York Times, Trump said it didn't bother him and he, quote, thought she had a right to talk about it. Trump said his wife was particularly upset about theories that Epstein introduced her to the future president. During her own earlier remarks. The first lady said she met Trump at a party and did not encounter Epstein until two years later at an event she attended with Trump. Franco Ordonez, NPR News, the White House.

And you're listening to NPR News. Five people have been charged with murder in connection to a massive explosion last July at a fireworks warehouse in Northern California. Seven people were killed in the blast. Among those said to be responsible for the explosion is a former Yolo county sheriff lieutenant. The Trump administration is acknowledging an error made in a recent social media video and letter to New York's Democratic governor accusing the state of Medicaid fraud. Buffalo Toronto Public Media's Emily Watkins has more.
Emily Watkins
The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services told the Associated Press administrator Mehmet Oz's claim that roughly 5 million New Yorkers receive personal care services was an error. The actual number is a tenth of that, about 450,000 people.

It's without explanation and without apology.
Emily Watkins
Michael Knookin from the think tank Fiscal Policy Institute was first to show that number was likely incorrect. CMS didn't explain their initial estimate. New York has attempted to tighten personal care services, which help with basics like bathing and meal preparation, by increasing eligibility requirements and restructuring its largest home care program. For NPR News, I'm Emily Watkins in Buffalo.

For the first time in at least two decades, the percentage of black players in Major League Baseball on opening day rosters has increased for two consecutive years. The the league says 6.8% of players are Black this year. That's up from 6.2% at the start of the 2025 season. In 1991, the number of Black players was 18%. I'm Dale Willman, NPR News.

This message comes from Midi health co founders Dr. Kathleen Jordan and CEO Joanna Strober discuss why they started a virtual care platform for women in perimenopause and menopause.
Emily Watkins / MIDI Health Speaker 1
The symptoms and experiences that women have in midlife, I think were underappreciated or possibly even trivialized. The changes of perimenopause and menopause create a broad spectrum of symptoms and can actually lead to long term health issues, but too few clinicians are trained in it.
MIDI Health Speaker 2
I also want to add often the type of care that women are needing is very iterative. It requires trying different medications, learning about their body, and learning how to take care of themselves. And so what we've tried to do at MIDI Health is create a new type of care system that is responsive to women's needs and helps them take care of themselves and stay healthy instead of just treating disease.
