Details@capitalone.com Live from NPR News in Washington, I'm Windsor Johnston. Vice President J.D. vance is leading a U.S. delegation in Pakistan today for high level talks aimed at ending the war in Iran. Speaking, speaking to reporters at Joint Base Andrews Friday night, President Trump wish fans luck.
President Donald Trump
He's got a big thing. We'll find out what's going on. They're militarily defeated and now we're going to open up the Gulf with them, with or without them. But that will be open. We're going to be or the Strait, as they call it. And I think it's going to go pretty quickly. And if it doesn't, we'll be able to finish it off one way or the other.

Negotiations in Islamabad are expected to focus on stabilizing a fragile ceasefire fire that was reached between Washington and Tehran earlier this week. Trump had accused Iran of violating the deal by doing a poor job of opening the Strait of Hormuz. Only a handful of ships have traveled through the critical waterway since the agreement was announced on Tuesday. Astronauts aboard the Artemis II returned back to Earth last night, completing their nearly 10 day mission. Tammy Mergo with member station KPBS reports hundreds of people gathered at a museum in San Diego to welcome the crew home.
Tammy Murga (KPBS Reporter)
Hugs, tears and plenty of cheers at the San Diego Air and Space Museum. Hundreds of families from all over Southern California witnessed the Artemis 2 crew return to Earth safely. Diego Chaparro drove from Los Angeles. He says it was important for his children to witness history.

I like for them to learn all these, experience it here firsthand. It's something that you're always going to remember and hopefully they can grow up to be astrophysicists or scientists.
Tammy Murga (KPBS Reporter)
Other attendees said the successful splashdown has brought pride to many San Diegans. All four astronauts were taken to a Navy ship and seem to be in great spirits. For NPR News, I'm Tammy Murga in San Diego.

The White House has released official plans for a 250 foot arch that President Trump has proposed to add to the National Mall in Washington, D.C. nPR's Anastasia Salukis reports.
Anastasia Tsoulkis (NPR Reporter)
The committee charged with reviewing the plans for the arch is the Commission of Fine Arts, a group President Trump has filled with his appointees. The submitted plans from the Harrison design firm show a structure very similar to the model that Trump showed off at a fundraising dinner at the White House last October. The proposed arch bears a striking resemblance to the Arc de Triomphe in Paris and is topped with two eagles and a winged crowned figure reminiscent of the Statue of Liberty. On one side, the words One Nation under God appear with the phrase with liberty and justice for all. On the other, the structure would be more than twice the height of the nearby Lincoln Memorial. It's npr. Heavy rain is pounding parts of Hawaii, with forecasters warning of flash flooding and possible landslides. The National Weather Service says a flood watch remains in effect statewide as multiple rounds of rain move across the islands. Saturated ground from earlier storms is increasing the risk of dangerous runoff and rising streams. Some areas could see several inches of rain, with conditions expected to worsen into the weekend. California Congressman Eric Swalwell is facing calls from fellow Democrats to end his campaign for governor. Guy Marziroti from member station KQED reports Swalwell has been accused of sexual assault by a former staffer, allegations he strongly denies.
Guy Marzirati (KQED Reporter)
The San Francisco Chronicle first reported the allegations from a former staff member who said Swalwell sexually assaulted her twice when she was too intoxicated to give consent. Swalwell is a leading candidate in the June 2 primary for governor. In a statement, he called the allegations false, but some of his top supporters, including California Senator Adam Schiff and Congressman Jimmy Gomez, are dropping their endorsements and calling on Swalwell to end his campaign. For NPR News, I'm Guy Marzirati in San Francisco.
