Kilmar Abrego Garcia, a Salvadoran citizen who had lived in Maryland for about 15 years, was deported to El Salvador despite being granted protections by an immigration judge. He is now in custody in Bukele's megaprison known as secot. The Supreme Court ordered the Trump administration to facilitate his return. A reporter asked Bukele if he'd return Abrego Garcia.
Nayib Bukele
The question is preposterous. How can I smuggle a terrorist into the United States? I don't have the power to return him to the United States.
Rob Schmitz
The administration has acknowledged that Abrego Garcia was deported due to an administrative error. But now Trump aide Stephen Miller is saying he was not mistakenly deported. Danielle Kurtzleben, NPR News, the White House.

Under the Biden administration. Some Nvidia products used in artificial intelligence computing have come under US Controls that ban their sale to China. It's a move to prevent China from acquiring dominance in AI. NPR reported last week the US had been mulling more controls on one of Nvidia's most advanced chips, but paused them after Nvidia's founder and CEO attended a $1 million a person dinner at Mar a Lago with Trump this month. Nvidia said it'll build two new supercomputer factories in Texas, their first such facilities in the United States. Most of their manufacturing is currently in Taiwan. Chinese companies have been buying up Nvidia products in case of a US Ban. And China is one of Nvidia's biggest markets. Emily Fang, NPR News, Washington.

Willing to temporarily exempt the auto industry from some tariffs in order to allow them to adjust their supply chains. Speaking to reporters in the Oval Office today, Trump said automakers, quote, need a little bit of time to relocate production to the U.S. that sent stocks soaring today. The Dow was up 312 points. The Nasdaq rose 107 points. The S&P 500 closed up 42 points. This is NPR. Hungary's parliament has passed a controversial constitutional amendment that will restrict the freedom of assembly for members of the LGBTQ community. As NPR's Rob Schmitz reports, critics say the amendment will go even further.
Rob Schmitz
The amendment codifies a ban on public events held by LGBTQ communities in Hungary, including the annual Budapest Pride Parade. It will also provide a constitutional basis for denying gender identities or sexual characteristics of minority groups. The amendment, the 15th to Hungary's constitution since 2011, gives legal support to a law fast tracked in March that made it an offense to attend events that, quote, promote homosexuality. That law also gives police powers to use facial recognition tools to identify individuals that attend prohibited events. Legal experts say the law and the amendment violate Hungary's constitution institution and could be used to ban public assemblies by any group in the future. Rob Schmitz, NPR News.
