live from NPR News, I'm Giles Snyder. President Trump says he did not think an image he posted of himself with light coming from his hands healing a man in a hospital bed depicted him as Jesus. The now deleted post came after Trump attacked Pope Leo for his opposition to the Iran war. NPR's Danielle Kurtzleben reports.
Danielle Kurtzleben
Trump tells members of the media that he did post the apparently AI generated image, but didn't think it depicted him as Jesus.
Donald Trump
It's supposed to be me as a doctor making people better. And I do make people better. I make people a lot better.
Danielle Kurtzleben
The post was deleted after many, including Trump supporters, criticized the imagery. Trump also said he won't apologize to Pope Leo after lashing out at the pontiff for his comments criticizing the war in Iran. But Pope Leo called the president's threats last week to destroy Iranian civilization unacceptable. Trump, meanwhile, called Pope Leo weak on crime. Danielle Kurtzleben, NPR News, the White House.

The U.S. navy now restricting the movement of ships in and out of the Strait of Hormuz, part of a blockade of Iranian ports announced by President Trump Sunday after peace talks with Iran produced no agreement. Iran has remained defiant, saying it will not surrender to threats from the U.S. china meanwhile, calling for restraint, as NPR's Jennifer Paak reports from Shanghai.
Jennifer Paak
Iran has closed the strait for more than six weeks, though a few tankers from friendly nations, including from China, were allowed to pass through. China says the restriction in the strait is not good for the international community, but it blames the disruption on the US And Israel for starting a war against Iran. So a ceasefire rather than a US Military blockade is the best solution, according to China's Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun. He also denies reports claiming that China plans to send weapons to Iran, calling them groundless smears. Kuo says so far China has played a constructive role in the Iran conflict. He was arrested a short time later outside the headquarters of OpenAI. This is NPR. The housing market remains sluggish. In March, existing home sales fell 1% compared to a year ago. That's according to the national association of realtors. NPR's Stephen Pizaha reports. The association is expecting the housing slump to continue.

The NAR is revising its housing forecast down for the year. That's because the war with Iran has raised the cost of borrowing and that sent mortgage rates up. The association went from projecting a double digit increase in existing home sales to just 4%. New home sales are projected to be flat. The NAR says lower consumer confidence and softer job growth are also keeping buyers out of the market. Home prices also hit a record high for March. The median existing home sale was a bit less than $410,000. But the NAR says housing is actually getting more affordable since wages are growing faster than prices. Stephen Bassarha, NPR News.
