From NPR News in Washington, I'm Korva Coleman. President Trump met El Salvador's president at the White House yesterday. It appears that Trump will not ask the Salvadoran president to release a man whom the administration admits it wrongly deported from the US To El Salvador. Last month, a US Supreme Court decision specifically said the Trump administration needs to facilitate the return of Kilmer Abrego Garcia. The lawyer for Abrego Garcia is Benjamin Osorio. He says the administration needs to act.
Benjamin Osorio
Nobody's asking the Trump administration to forcibly extract Mr. Abrego from El Salvador. What we're asking is exactly what the Supreme Court told him. Let's facilitate his return. And we do this all the time. I personally have worked with DHS before to facilitate the return of some several other clients who were deported.

But Salvadoran President Naim Bukele says he has no plans to release the wrongly deported man who is now imprisoned. Trump also talked to the Salvadoran president yesterday about the possibility of deporting American citizens to El Salvador. Trump says that this would be for American criminals. The Salvadoran president said that he had quote room the man charged with trying to assassinate President Trump last year while on his golf course in Florida is scheduled to be in court today. NPR's Greg Allen reports. Ryan Ruth faces five federal charges, including attempted assassination of a presidential candidate.
Greg Allen
Today's hearing in Fort Pierce, Florida, will focus on the semiautomatic rifle authorities say Ruth planned to use in his assassination attempt in September. A member of Trump's security detail said he saw a gun barrel poking from the tree line a few holes ahead of where the candidate was golfing and the Secret Service agent fired on the person holding it. A man identified as Ruth fled the scene and was arrested a short time later. Ruth's lawyers are asking a judge to allow their ex to test fire the gun to determine its accuracy and operability. Prosecutors say test firing by an FBI agent shows the gun works, but that it's not important. What is important, they say it's Ruth's intent to kill then presidential candidate Donald Trump. The amendment has been pushed through the Hungarian parliament. Backers say efforts to protect children supersede all other rights. That includes the right for the public to assemble. Today's the deadline in the US to file income taxes. However, people in several states have gotten extensions to file their taxes. That's due to federal policy on disaster relief. Georgia Public Broadcasting's Chase McGee has more.

After Hurricane Helene made landfall last year, the Federal Emergency Management Agency issued disaster declarations for several southern states. After that declaration, the IRS extended the date to file and pay 2024's taxes to May 1st of this year, and state revenue agencies followed suit. John Powell is a partner at tax firm Moore Colson. He says that although some filers get only a few extra weeks, that can make a huge difference for both taxpayers and tax professionals.
John Powell
Having a couple of extra weeks can be a godsend. If cash is tight as well, having a couple of extra weeks can allow you for time to make those payments.
