A.com code NPR live from NPR News in Washington, I'm Windsor Johnston. The United States and Iran will hold another round of peace talks. In a post on social media, President Trump said a US Delegation will travel to Pakistan Monday night to resume negotiations. Leaders in Islamabad have been vague about plans, but preparations have been underway for days. Betsy Joel's reports authorities are restricting movement in and out of the city's red zone, a high security sector that houses government buildings and most embassies.

Earlier this weekend, administrators in both Islamabad and its sister city Raindi denied reports that commercial activity and transport were being curtailed. Then on Sunday, they announced on social media the suspension of public transport until further notice. One of the country's main mediators, Army Chief Asim Munir, traveled to Iran last week as part of this mediation effort.

That's Betsy Joel's reporting. Fear and confusion are growing in the Strait of Hormuz after two Indian flagged oil tankers were attacked on Saturday after Iran reimposed restrictions in the shipping channel. Radio calls from one of the tankers were captured by ABC News. The attacks came a day after after President Trump refused to lift a US Naval blockade in the strait. India has asked the Iranian ambassador to come to New Delhi for talks. Israeli troops remain active in southern Lebanon as the ceasefire holds between Israel and Lebanon. The deal published by the US says Israel may take self defensive measures. SNPR's Daniel Estrin reports from Tel Aviv.

Israel says its troops remain inside Lebanon, up to six miles deep from the Israeli border. Israel calls it a security zone to act against threats to northern Israel. The Israeli military published a graphic showing the approximate area where five military divisions, tens of thousands of soldiers are destroying infrastructure Israel says is connected to the Hezbollah militia. Israel is prohibiting displaced Lebanese civilians from returning to dozens of villages in the area Israel is occupying. During the ceasefire, two Israeli soldiers in Lebanon were killed by previously planted explosives. And Israel says Hezbollah fire killed a UN Peacekeeper clearing unexploded ordnance in Lebanon. Many parts of the U.S. are facing drought conditions. NPR's Matt Bloom reports.
Matt Bloom
The U.S. drought Monitor says 97% of the southeastern U.S. is now in moderate to exceptional drought, while two thirds of western states are in similar shape. Meteorologists warn it could be a bad sign for the upcoming wildfire season and could affect the agricultural sector and food prices.

That's NPR's Matt Bloom reporting. This is NPR News. North Korea has fired multiple ballistic missiles into the sea today. It's the latest in a series of weapons tests. NPR's Anthony Kuhn reports. Pyongyang has been developing new military technologies used in conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East.
Anthony Kuhn
South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff says the missiles were launched from around the east coast port city of Sinpo and flew eastward into the sea. Japan also detected the launch. North Korea conducted three missile tests earlier this month, including a missile with cluster bombs and a graphite bomb that disables electrical grids. In February, North Korea listed new military capabilities it plans to develop over the next five years. It includes AI assisted drones, nuclear capable cruise missiles and anti satellite weapons. Pyongyang's biggest takeaway from Ukraine and Iran, though, is that its best insurance against being attacked is its nuclear arsenal. Anthony Kuhn, NPR News, Seoul.

Crowds gathered in Kilamba, Angola, to celebrate mass with Pope Leo as he continues his trip across Africa. The tour comes after the pope's appeals for an end to the conflict in the Middle east, which prompted criticism from the White House. Speaking to reporters on Saturday, the Pompeii said remarks he made earlier in the week about peace were not aimed at President Trump.

The talk that I gave at the prayer meeting for peace a couple days ago was prepared two weeks ago, well before the president ever commented on myself and on the message of peace that I am promoting.
