live from NPR News. I'm Lakshmi Singh. The United Arab Emirates says it is exiting the OPEC oil cartel, which is led by Saudi Arabia and Russia. The UAE, which joined OPEC in 1967, says its decision to leave the group is based on meeting the market's needs. NPR's Aya Batrawi has the latest.

The UAE has long been dissatisfied with OPEC's production quotas and curbs on output, but its fallout with Saudi Arabia over the conflict in Yemen and other regional issues appears to have accelerated its exit from the Saudi led oil cartel. Opec, which stands for the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries, will Now have just 11 states as members after the UAE's exit. The group has lost member states before, including Qatar and Angola, in past years. Oil exports from the Gulf have been disrupted by the U S. Israeli war on Iran and Iran's closure of the Strait of Hormuz. The UAE now produces roughly 1.9 million barrels of oil a day, according to research From Kepler, about 40% less than before the war. The Iran war is one of several points of contention between President Trump and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer Kennedy. King Charles III is now in Washington. He will be doing some fence mending in his visit to the White House, welcomed today with pomp and pageantry. And President Trump is using this occasion to tout shared values.

The royal visit coinciding with the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. King Charles is scheduled to address a joint meeting of Congress later this afternoon. Texas lawmakers are holding a second day of hearings as they continue to look for answers about Camp Mystic. 28 people, including campers and counselors, died at the camp last July. Kayleigh Hunt with member station KUT has more.
