live from NPR News, I'm Giles Snyder. Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche says violence has no place in civic life. Blanche spoke after the man being held in connection with Saturday night's incident at the White House Correspondents Dinner made his first court appearance Monday.
Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche
It cannot, will not be used to disrupt democratic institutions or intimidate those who serve them, and it certainly cannot continue to be used against the president of the United states.

Charges against 31 year old Cole Allen of Torrance, California, include attempting to assassinate President Trump. He did not enter a plea at Monday's hearing. He remains jailed pending additional court hearings. An Iranian proposal to bring the war with the US to an end began emerging Monday. The terms have not been made public, but the Associated Press is reporting that Iran is offering to reopen the Strait of Hormuz in exchange for an end to the US Naval blockade. Iran also reportedly wants to set aside nuclear negotiations until after the war ends. The head of Israel's military is condemning recent reports of soldiers looting in Lebanon, warning against a potential stain on the entire Israeli military. NPR's Helena Beardsley reports that Israeli soldiers have admitted to looting significant amounts of civilian property from home, homes and businesses in southern Lebanon.

In interviews with newspaper Haaretz, Israeli soldiers described the theft of motorcycles, televisions, paintings, sofas and rugs on a wide scale, which they said has become routine. They said both senior and junior commanders on the ground are aware of the phenomenon but are not taking disciplinary action to curb it. Israel's military chief, Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir, has now instructed all commanders to carry out a thorough investigation of each unit and appointed a team to examine each case individually. The Zamir called the acts described a disgrace and against our values. Eleanor Beardsley, NPR News, Tel Aviv.

King Charles will be on Capitol Hill later today to address a joint meeting of Congress. His speech will be only the second time that a British monarch has addressed a joint meeting of both the House and Senate after Queen Elizabeth 1991 Charles and Queen Camilla's arrival in the U.S. monday afternoon comes at a tense time. As NPR's Lauren Frayer reports, a handful

of protesters gathered at the gates of Buckingham palace wearing masks of King Charles, Charles and President Trump. Polls show most Brits oppose the king's US Visit, including protester Tom Walker.
Tom Walker
It's all part of essentially trying to cozy up, trying to suck up to Trump or at least trying to avoid angering the man right.
Lauren Frayer
Prime Minister Keir Starmer tried not to cross Trump and got a favorable U.S. trade deal last year. But Starmer's opposition to the U.S. and Israeli war on Iran has angered the president, who has since insulted the prime minister personally. Trump has spoken of his love of the royals, though, and has said the king's visit might help mend relations. Lauren Fryer, NPR News, London.

And you're listening to NPR News. The British Parliament is expected to vote Tuesday on whether to authorize an investigation into whether Prime Minister Keir Starmer misled Parliament over the appointment of former U.S. ambassador Peter Mandelson. Starmer fired Mandelson last September after his relationship with the late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein was found to be more extensive than previously known. First lady Melania Trump criticizing late night comedian Jimmy Kimmel for a joke he made about her. And NPR's MandalitoBargo reports that President Trump is again calling for Kimmel to be fired.

Jimmy Kimmel made his jab during a sketch on his late night show last week, a mock speech for an alternative White House correspondent's dinner.
Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche
Our first lady Melania is here. Look at mo. So beautiful, Mrs. Trump, you have a glow like an expectant widow.
Mandalita Albarco
Kimmel's sketch ran two days before the real White House correspondent's dinner when an alleged would be assassin tried to storm the ballroom. In a post on X, Melania Trump called Kimmel's joke about her hateful and violent, and she asked network abc, which airs his show, to take a stand. The president then called for ABC and parent company Disney to immediately fire him. In September, the network did briefly suspend Kimmel's show after he commented on the MAGA response to the killing of conservative activist Charlie Kirk. Mandalita Albarco, NPR News.

Stocks in Europe are edging lower following losses in Asia in Tuesday trading. And with the Strait of Hormuz effectively closed, oil prices now top $111 per barrel. I'm Giles Snyder. This is NPR News.

This message comes from Midi health co founders Dr. Kathleen Jordan and CEO Joanna Strober discuss why they started a virtual care platform for women in perimenopause and menopause.
Dr. Kathleen Jordan
The symptoms and experiences that women have in midlife, I think were underappreciated or possibly even trivialized. The changes of perimenopause and menopause create a broad spectrum of symptoms and can actually lead to long term health issues, but too few clinicians are trained in it.
Joanna Strober
I also want to add often the type of care that women are needing is very iterative. It requires trying different medications, learning about their body, and learning how to take care of themselves. And so what we've tried to do at MIDI Health is create a new type of care system that is responsive to women's needs and helps them take care of themselves and stay healthy instead of just treating disease.
